It's primary day in Texas, where former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay faces the first test from voters in his district after falling from power last year in a Congressional corruption scandal.

The Texas Republican, who has presided over many a tough fight in Washington, is not accustomed to much competition at home in Sugar Land. But DeLay faces three GOP challengers in today's primary.

While most Republicans presume DeLay will emerge with a victory, an equally telling sign could be the percentage of votes he collects as he looks ahead to the general election. If he does, indeed, win today, he will face former Rep. Nick Lampson, a Democrat, in November.

In a sign of confidence, perhaps, DeLay is set to return to Washington by afternoon. Just in time, according to his schedule, to attend a fundrasier in his honor being hosted by former House members-turned-lobbyists Bill Paxon and Susan Molinari.
