Got an invite recently to an event sponsored by the CATO Institute, the libertarian think tank, here in Washington.

Evidently, Cato hosts events for interns working on Capitol Hill, typically college students, to expose them to the libertarian political philosophy of limited government, individual liberty and free markets.

A session next week is scheduled to feature a 1998 documentary on greed by ABC News reporter John Stossel. Actually, someone at Cato who asked to go nameless, told me that all the sessions will feature documentaries by Stossel though the lineup hasn't been finalized. A question-and-answer session will follow.

The Cato person didn't know if Stossel self-identifies as a liberarian but said his views are in line with those of libertarians.

Here's the invitation:

The Cato Institute invites you to a Capitol Hill Briefing

John Stossel's "Greed"

The First Documentary in a Three Part
Capitol Hill Series for Interns

Monday, July 10, 2006
12:00 noon (Lunch included)
B-340 Rayburn House Office Building

Everybody thinks "greed" is bad. But aren't we all greedy? Why do we want more? How much is enough? In search of answers, Stossel discovers that in order to get money from people, you generally have to provide value for them in return, so everybody wins. He also examines how the profit motive has spurred civilization's accomplishments. Why is greed so vilified?

The typically misleading "Swamp" headline labels the seminars as preaching "greed is good". However, according to the text of the invitation, the seminars are NOT preaching "greed is good", but rather "greed isn't necessarily bad." The distinction between the two is easy to grasp, or at least should be for anyone of sufficient intelligence to be employed writing headlines.

Bruce,

"The typically misleading "Swamp" headline.."

I just can't accept the opinion of anyone (you) that claims Rove's nick-name 'Fart Blossom' was made up by hateful liberals as you once claimed. Remember?

Checking that old 'Rove/Kerry' blog, you never retracted or corrected that entry. You need to admit that mistake before your opinion can be accepted here. It was Bush's pet name for Rove.

Guest speaker Ken Lay had a prior commitment.

Fellas, play nice. It's "Turd Blossom." Let's be accurate on the important stuff.

Wasn't KATO or CATO Insp. Clouseau's body guard?

With a name like that, can we take them seriously?

Yeah, 'Turd Blossom' was it.

Bruce thought liberals made it up.
