If I were Karl Rove or the Republican National Committee, I would pray former President Bill Clinton stays off television.

You just don’t want too many voters thinking that by voting for Democrats this November, they just might be voting for him.

If you haven’t seen Clinton’s performance during the interview with Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday, you really owe it to yourself. It was pure Clinton. Agree with him or not, he’s just incredibly entertaining, downright riveting to watch.

One of Clinton’s strengths is that he does passion really well (please, no Monica jokes.) He understands that as a politician you can have the facts on your side in a political argument all you want.

But if you can’t fire the emotions of voters, if you can’t get them to connect with you, you’re done for.

For weeks, for months, other Democrats have been making the same arguments Clinton did yesterday: that the war in Iraq distracted the U.S. from the effort to get Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan, that the Clinton administration did act to get bin Laden, that Democrats have useful ideas about how to fight the war on terror, that Democrats are not wimps.

But nobody does it better than Clinton. In a matter of minutes he put across the Democratic talking points more effectively than the host of Democrats in Congress have managed to do.

And in that deft, Clintonesque way, he managed to criticize Republicans while giving a respectful shoutout to Karl Rove. He even broke down the Republican game plan like he was John Madden drawing the x’s and o’s.

WALLACE: Let's talk some politics. In that same New Yorker article, you say that you are tired of Karl Rove's B.S., though I'm cleaning up what you said.

CLINTON: But I do -- but I also say, I'm not tired of Karl Rove. I don't blame Karl Rove. He -- if you've got a deal that works, you just keep on doing it.

WALLACE: So what is the B.S.?

CLINTON: Well, every even-numbered year, right before an election, they come up with some security issue. In 2002, our party supported them in taking weapons inspections in Iraq, and was 100 percent for what happened in Afghanistan, and they didn't have any way to make us look like we didn't care about terror.

And so, they decided they would be for the homeland security bill that they had opposed, and they put a poison pill in it that we wouldn't pass, like taking the job rights away from 170,000 people, and then say that we were weak on terror if we weren't for it. They just ran that out.

This year, I think they wanted to make the questions of prisoner treatment and intercepted communications the same sort of issues, until John Warner and John McCain and Lindsey Graham got in there, and it turns out there were some Republicans that believed in the Constitution and the Geneva Conventions, and had their own ideas about how best to fight terror. The Democrats, as long as the American people believe that we take this seriously, and we have our own approaches, and we may have differences over Iraq, I think we'll do fine in this election.

But even if they agree with us about the Iraq war, we could be hurt by Karl Rove's new foray if we just don't make it clear that we too care about the security of the country. But we want to implement the 9/11 commission recommendations which they haven't for four years. We want to intensify our efforts in Afghanistan against bin Laden. We want to make America more energy independent. And then they can all, if they differ on Iraq, they say whatever they want on Iraq.

But Rove is good. And I honor him. I've always been amused at how good he is, in a way. But on the other hand, this is perfectly predictable. We're going to win a lot of seats if the American people aren't afraid. If they're afraid and we get divided again, then we may only win a few seats

WALLACE: And the White House, the Republicans want to make the American people afraid?

CLINTON: Of course they do. Of course they do. They want us to be -- they want another homeland security deal. And they want to make it about, not about Iraq, but about some other security issue where, if we disagree with them, we are, by definition, imperiling the security of the country. And it's a big load of hooey. We've got nine Iraq war veterans running for the House seats. We've got President Reagan's secretary of the Navy is the Democratic candidate for the Senate in Virginia. A three-star admiral who was on my National Security Council staff, who also fought terror, by the way, is running for this seat of Curt Weldon in Pennsylvania.

We've got a huge military presence here in this campaign, and we just can't let them have some rhetorical device that puts us in a box we don't belong in. That's their job. Their job is to beat us. I like that about Rove. But our job is not to let him get away with it. And if they don't we will do fine.

Watching the “interview” was at times like watching a bear hunt in which the bear turns the tables. By the end of it, Clinton was pretty much picking Wallace’s bones clean. I think I even saw Clinton smacking his lips.

There was a moment when I almost felt sorry for Wallace before I remembered how much more he gets paid than I do. It was when Clinton kept telling Wallace to “Tell the truth, Chris.” It was like a scene from the OJ trial.

CLINTON: It was a perfectly legitimate question. But I want to know, how many people in the Bush administration you ask this question of. I want to know how many people in the Bush administration you ask, "Why didn't you do anything about the Cole?" I want to know how many people you ask, "Why did you fire Dick Clarke?" I want to know how many people you ask about this.

WALLACE: We ask, we ask -- have you ever watched "Fox News Sunday," sir?

CLINTON: I don't believe you ask them that.

WALLACE: We ask plenty of questions --

CLINTON: You didn't ask that, did you? Tell the truth, Chris.

WALLACE: On the USS Cole?

CLINTON: Tell the truth, Chris.

WALLACE: With Iraq and Afghanistan, there's plenty of stuff to ask, sir.

CLINTON: Tell the truth, Chris. Did you ever ask that? You set this meeting up because you're going to get a lot of criticism from your viewers because Rupert Murdoch's supporting my work on climate change. And you came here on false pretenses and said that you'd spend half the time talking about --

WALLACE: I --

CLINTON: About -- you said you'd spend half the time talking about what we did out there to raise $7 billion plus, in three days, from 215 different commitments, and you don't care.

WALLACE: I -- President Clinton, if you look at the questions --

CLINTON: I thought you'd (have an audience here ?).

WALLACE: You'll see half the questions about it. I didn't think this was going to set you off on such a tear.

CLINTON: You launched into it. It set off on a tear because you didn't formulate it in an honest way, and because you people ask me questions you don't ask the other side.

WALLACE: Sir, that's not so.

CLINTON: And Richard Clarke --

WALLACE: That is not true.

CLINTON: Richard Clarke made it clear in his testimony --

WALLACE: Would you like to talk about the Clinton Global Initiative?

CLINTON: No, I want to finish this thing.

WALLACE: All right.

And finish the thing, Clinton did. Again, one of the smartest moves the Republicans could make would be to figure out how to keep Clinton out of the country on his global initiative from now till election day.

Bill Clinton is great.

He even has some fools like Paulo girl, and John D./JD believing that he still is the President.

Bill Clinton did a great job as President, and he even had some fun on the side, this is why the neo-con Republicans hate him so much.
Intelligent thought scares the Republicans to the point of breakdown, and Bill Clinton is the master of this.

Fox News is turning into the American version of a "state run" news outlet,a "mouthpiece" for the Whitehouse.

It's clear where the loyalties of Frank James lie, but unfortunately for him there's just as many people in this country who loathe the Clintons and their type of political survivalism. They saw this same program and thought to themselves that the best thing the republicans could do would be to keep a camera on the combative Clinton. All of his administration's mistakes on getting Bin Laden are writ large in the 9/11 commission report and it's obvious Clinton will do anything he can to stop the already-reported truth from being further disseminated.

You never know where a defensive Clinton will go with his rants. Maybe he'll try to redefine the word "is" again.

Give it up Bill.

I was around with GHWB. It was OK.
I enjoyed the 8 years of BJC.
And to my sorrow I've endured the past 6 years.

I can honestly say, I much rather have 1992-1999 back again.

The political circus that was in Washington DC pretty much stayed there then. Some of it brought on by the Clintons themselves, and a lot of it generated by RNC. But in all that time, we didn't have 6,000 Americans die in an attack on this country and a war of lies on another country.

Somebody said that Ronald Reagan got the U.S. hostages in Tehran released the day of his inaugural by displaying his strong leadership.

What does that say about GWB #43, when 9/11 attacks occured 9 months after his inaugural?

You want to answer that one, Paulo?

Yo Jack, planning for 9/11 began while Slick Willie was president. And as Chris Wallace pointed out, Slick Willie's cut and run act in Somalia as well as his feeble attempts to get bin Laden, only emboldened bin laden in which bin Laden called the U.S. a "paper tiger."

It's not surprising that in Frank James PR piece for the Slick Willie didn't highlight some of the lies. First of all, Clinton did not work as hard as he could to get bin Laden nor did he even come close. Even Richard Clarke said Clinton wasn't all that interested, distracted and did not have a plan to get bin Laden.

Clinton sticking his finger at Chris Wallace was much like Clinton sticking his finger to the American public and saying, "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky."

Oh, and on a couple of occasions Clinton pointed to the great 9/11 Commission in his defense. But another time he said the 9/11 Commission was just "politics." Which is it Bubba?

Finally, is it even possible for the likes of Frank James, Mark Silva, Jeff "I love Barack Obama" Zeleny and the rest of the Tribune Swamp crew to have any objectivity and fairness? No? I didn't think so.

Oh Jack...that's a dunb question that's very easy to answer, even you maybe able to understand the answer.
1. 9-11 took three to four years to plan, right under Clinton's nose.
2. Osama didn't have any American Hostages.
3. Next question?
Paulo

Bill Clinton is just brilliant. The man tried and failed to kill bin Laden. He's man enough to admit that.

Bush is too stubborn to admit that Iraq has been a complete disaster. The campaign in Iraq has opened a pandora's box and now the threat of terrorism is even greater than before the invasion of that country.

The GOP is still dwelling on the Lewinsky scandal. It's the only thing that they can do while thousands of Americans have died on Bush's watch. Sure Clinton lied. At least his lies haven't cost of American lives, billions of our tax dollars, and the reputation of our great nation.

"Clinton was great

John E."

This explains a lot John E. Tell us more.

Frank James, do you honestly believe Clinton's "performance" helps the Dems?

He sounded like OJ when questioned about Ron and Nicole.
Defensive, Combative, and downright confusing. Go read Richard Clarke's book? I read what he had to say about the Clinton administration's constantly handcuffing missions to get OBL. The only time they followed through was during Lewinski. Was it just coincidence that he finally gathered the courage and will to attempt something? Mabye the answer to that is somewhere in Sandy Berger's socks or paper shredder at home. We'll never know.

I don't see how this helps the Dems at all, unless you are living in a 90's Clinton Euphoria similar to Bear fans who still think its 1985 and Ditka is still Da Coach.

This was plain bad.

BJC is a big baby whining about would'ves-could'ves & should'ves. He sounded more like Howard Dean or Mike Wallace.

I was reading your fine print and please explain to me what constitutes an "Unfair Attack" if it is TRUE???

YOU ARE READING "THE CLINTONAGO TRIBUNE".

This should be good.

Any objective viewer can not see Clinton's performance as anything other than unhinged and unstable. It was completely unproportional to the question asked. This an ex-president still trying to bulk up his legacy which is increasingly being defined by Lewinsky and the failure to aggressively pursue Al-qaeda.

If it weren't for the 25th ammendment Bill Clinton would still be president.

And the United States of America and the world would be a better, safer place.

Let the neo-con blogger bed wetting begin. Diaper for dad?

Democrat #1 (Frank James) writes a love note about Democrat #2 (Bill Clinton). What a surprise.

Perhaps Frank James should punish himself and read Clinton's own memoirs (somebody other than the Clinton family has to). He'll find that Clinton didn't even mention terrorism until page 574, and didn't mention al-qaeda until page 797. So much for Clinton's laughable claims to have focused on al-qaeda terrorism when president.

Perhaps Frank James and others might also remember that the World Trade Center attacks were planned, and operationally started, when Clinton was president.

Clinton's act is entertaining in a buffoonish sort of way, with the mock outrage, the bullet-speed way of speaking, the finger waving, the wild accusations that everybody's conspiring against him. He has the talent to be the 2nd billed comic in any 2nd rate comedy club. Or be the voice of those infomercials for Ginsu knives.

Paulo, perhaps you're not able to comprehend the question:

If you credit Ronald Reagan for the Iranian hostages being freed on the day of his inaugural, should you not hold GWB responsible for the 9/11 attacks that he was (1) warned about by the outgoing, failed (in your words) Clinton administration and (2) had 9 MONTHS to prepare for?

You can spin it anyway you want. Because I know you will.

JohnD: Somalia was BJC being left holding the bag for the situation of another's making. I'm sure you see it differently. I understand your request to join 3/75INF to make up for those loses of 3 Oct 1993 was not processed immediately?

Go on ahead and continue to bash BJC all you want. It'll only cast the current occupant in worse and worse light.

I (we) love Bill Clinton!!! The man is a true leader with knowlege patience and an understanding of how other people feel and think. He is a man with problems that any man could have. He is respected and admired. I wish the man good health and that he stays with us!!! (We need is input).

"If you credit Ronald Reagan for the Iranian hostages being freed on the day of his inaugural, should you not hold GWB responsible for the 9/11 attacks"

What are you....13?

I love how wingers continue to obsess about Clinton 6 years after he's left the white house. How they blame him for 9/11 when in fact he did more than any other president before him to hunt down Osama Bin Laden. How they blame him for failing to catch Osama, while they ignore Bush's absolute failure in the same regard, and not only that, how they fail to recognize that Bush's little misadventure in Iraq has actually strengthened global terrorism. How they're trying to make hay of Clinton, yet again, to gain a competetive edge in the 2006 midterms when they know they don't have a leg to stand on.

Well Abraham Lincoln said it best, "You can fool all of the people some of the time, or some of the people all of the time. But you cannot fool all of the people all of the time."

Those who looks back from 9/11 and say Clinton should have been more aggressive about terrorism are invited to set up shop as a futurologists, investment counselors, or horse handicappers.

But wait a second, maybe they have no clue after all, for they failed to foresee the consequences of invading Iraq, now playing in its 42 month.

Never mind.

And yet, GWB, Jr. has had 5 years to get bin Laden and .....nothing.....

I'm no fan of Clinton, but he's absolutely right when he suggests that A)at least he tried to get bin Laden and B)the same critics riding him before are riding him now.

He wins some of my respect, begrudgingly, for admitting he failed.

In the meantime, I'm still waiting on Shrub to get bin Laden. Five years later.

Again, I'm no fan of Bill, but I'd rather him than what we have.

Since President Clinton told Chris Wallace that Richard Clarke is the man to be trusted let's see what HE has to say on the subject.

He was interviewed in early 2002. That interview was cleared for distribution by the White House in 2004 and published on the Fox News website in March 2004.

Answering the very first question in the interview, Clarke said exactly the opposite of what Mr. Clinton claimed on Friday:

RICHARD CLARKE: Actually, I've got about seven points, let me just go through them quickly. Um, the first point, I think the overall point is, there was no plan on Al Qaeda that was passed from the Clinton administration to the Bush administration.

So there you have it...

Learn more about Clinton:

Richard Miniter, Author Of Losing Bin Laden: "One of the big myths about the Clinton years is that no one knew about bin Laden until Sept. 11, 2001." ("Clinton's Loss," National Review Online, 9/11/03)

Miniter: "In fact, the bin Laden threat was recognized at the highest levels of the Clinton administration as early as 1993. What's more, bin Laden's attacks kept escalating throughout the Clinton administration; all told bin Laden was responsible for the deaths of 59 Americans on Clinton's watch." ("Clinton's Loss," National Review Online, 9/11/03)

Miniter: "President Clinton learned about bin Laden within months of being sworn into office. National Security Advisor Anthony Lake told me that he first heard the name Osama bin Laden in 1993 in relation to the World Trade Center attack. Lake briefed the president about bin Laden that same year." ("Clinton's Loss," National Review Online, 9/11/03)

How do you like that!? And now the wife wannabe president? NO WAY!

Oh and about Clinton's entire Somalia deal - I'm not sure if any of you are old enough to remember, but as I recall it was the Repubilcans in Congress who were all up in arms over what they considered to be a fruitless humanitarian mission. This was back when Republicans still believed in isolationism and the like before we knew that whatever "principles" they had would easily give way to political expediency.

If you don't believe me, Glenn Greenwald gathers indisputable evidence:

http://glenngreenwald.blogspot.com/2006/09/who-wanted-to-cut-and-run-from-somalia.html

So how about them apples?

When GWB leaves office, he'll be remembered for:

-invading and occupying a nation that had nothing to do with the horrific 9/11 attacks
-reminding our nation that we were safer under GOP rule, yet scaring us with doomsday scenarios
-polarizing our great country by picking on gay Americans, cutting taxes on wealthy Americans while our nation was at war, and embracing the hypocritical religious right
-cut tax and increase spending policy
-saddling our children and grandchildren with a massive national debt
-ruining the prestige and reputation of our great nation

Best president ever!
National surplus, and no whining wimpy rule by the fear mongers.
Democrats rule!

Frank James you have done a great job of trying to divert your readers from the actual events of Mr. Clinton's interview. Bill looked a lot like OJ when he is asked about killing his wife...a liar that is trying to re-write history to his favor. Thank you Mr. Wallace for finally asking Mr. Clinton a real question. Bill's reponse and actions speak volumes of who he really is...a liar and adulterer.

What we saw in response to Chris Wallace's rather innocuous question was pure Clinton. Nothing less than the greatest Con-Man-turned-politician the world has ever seen. In his performance, Clinton shows all of us that he was the best liar of the 20th Century, and has already coveted the same title for the 21st Century.

After all, when was the last time any of us saw a politician so advanced in his oratory that he could (and succeeded) in using both sides of the same argument (911 Commission Report) to substatiate his views?

When Clinton was in office, that's when.

Ha! I love to see the senile neocons wet their pants when those draft dodging warmongers are exposed for the media spinners they are. Rush Limbaugh the drug addict and Fox News are just two of the bought-and-paid-for GOP shills; there are plenty more. When Clinton makes the obvious point that their coverage is biased the neocons soil themselves. By now these former combat-dodgers are so old, maybe calling them "archaeo-cons" makes more sense than "neo-cons".

And all the lies cannot conceal the simple fact that 9/11 was a failure of security during W's watch. There were over ten months between the election and the disaster. Blaming it on Clinton is typical bull.

FOX LIES and anyone with any common sense and objectivity knows that. FOX has absolutely zero credibility in my book. I'm supposed to believe Brit Hume and Chris Wallace and Sean Hannity. I don't think so. I'm smarter than that and more objective than that. FOX LIES is a mouthpiece for the illegitimate and derelict Bush administratiion.
9/11 happened on Dubya's watch. He linked that to Iraq and Saddam and invaded Iraq. He's responsible for the chaos, death, and destruction which exists in Iraq today. He's also responsible for all the dead and wounded U.S. servicemen.
Clinton lied about his sex affairs. I could care less about that. It seems some folks are fixated with that. They just can't let it go. Clinton lies didn't cost any human lives. Bush's lies and deceptions have cost thousands of lives.

Please if you all believe in # 43 and what he is doing put your boots on and head over to Iraq

Bill Clinton can not tell the truth in spite of himself. He remembers things that never happened. What a comvienent memory. The man hated the military and everything associated with it including the CIA. He did nothing to stop the terror and now is trying to appear to be a tough guy. What a joke to have played on the American people. It does show that you can fool most of the people some of the time , but not all of the time. Thank the Lord for George Bush.

Chris Wallace set Clinton up with the classic fall question. (Ala "Have you stopped beating your wife yet?" along with a little "our viewers asked us to ask you..."). Then, he returned with even more bs questions like that.

Clinton was smart enough and adept enough to turn the tables on Fox.

Now Chris Wallace whines about "but they were innocent questions". Innocent? Fortunately for Chris, the average Fox viewer is 80 years old so Wallace may get away with it.

Wallace was wrong to put highly loaded, slanted, neocon questions to Clinton. Clinton did the world a service by answering the way he did.

But looking at these comments, will the world ever figure out that the "F" in Fox News Network really stands for "Fantasy News Network"? Maybe we can start a new game ala Fantasy Football where we pick reporters and guess what they'll fabricate next...

The very fact that many of these "Cons" on here are trying to rip Clinton apart for a BJ just shows how fearful of him they are and how terrified that are of November.

Yo clowns have had both houses and the W.H. and have done NOTHING except put us in debt to the Chinese and put our military on the verge of destruction. Come one tough guy cons, you love Bush so much, start giving your kids up and have them serve! If you are 42 or younger sign your butts up too!

Clinton is a President, just by the fact that no foreign dictator every walked into his house and called him the Devil. Bush, well, he's just George.

Bill Clinton is responsible for 9-11. The reason he became so angry with a simple question is that not only did he fail to get Bin Laden, he hamstringed our law enforcement agencies from doing their job. Pollsters told Clinton not to get involved feuding with terrorists so instead of doing what was difficult and courageous, he ran and hid. The strategy of isolationism has historically failed our country many times and was the root cause of previous world wars.

Clinton knows he was responsible for 9-11, but he almost believes his own lies about how it wasn’t his fault. He said the FBI and CIA could not confirm that Bin Laden was responsible, but that was because he put road blocks in the system to stop the investigations. When he had the opportunity to attack his camp, he would not let the CIA do its job. He was too busy fighting legal battles about his own discretions to do his job defending our nation. He truly failed every one of us. But if you think every President should be able to have his way with interns in the Oval office, your personal lack of morality makes you incapable of comprehending how a President must lead a great nation. These facts are coming clear and will only become clearer as time moves forward.

Bill Clinton lied about extramarital affairs. Millions of average people have affairs.

Bush is trying to make it legal for the CIA to torture people; the've probably already started knowing this administration.

Let's get off the morality side-show. I'd rather have a president who reminds me of millions of people than one who reminds me of Charles Manson.

Jack, safer under Bill Clinton? Under Clinton the U.S. was attacked by Al Qaeda at least four times. Under Bush only once and the planning for that began in 1990s.

And Jack, regaring Somalia, George H.W. Bush did send in troops so people who were being starved to death could eat. Clinton handled it poorly once he stepped in. But I understand the Left is not interested in people being killed. Million-plus killed in Rwanda? Left did nothing. Nearly a million being killed in Darfur? Bush has been trying to do something, but the Left's friends in France, UN and elsewhere have been no help.

Basically the Left continues to show it has no problem with genocide and no problem with dictators who conduct the genocide.

What a scene,

Fox cannot take some of their own medicine.

He may be Slick Willy but I don think he is in The Killing League of The Bushies.

Keep it up Bubba. We want to see some Bush meat!!

JD,

I think I spelled it out for you in about the the most basic way possible.

Bill Cinton = Good for Americans, here and abroad.

George W. Bush = Bad for Americans, here and abroad....The "Decider" has not only failed the American people, and people all over the world.....He has failed himself, and his legacy.

JD....I don't like you,I want to talk to that John D. guy.

If the rest of the Dems could push back on the idiot press the way Clinto did, theY would win in November. Most Dems are afraid to fight, and they are as amnesiac as the average journalsit. Remember, please, that in December 2000 Clinton told Bush that Al Quaida was the number one threat to the security of the United States. As Richard Clarke has made clear, he tried for months to get the Bushies to take Al Quaida seriously. And in August of that year the CIA explicitly warned Bush about airplanes being used in attacks. Cheney, Rumsfeld, and the Dunce from Crawford DID NOTHING. No, instead they wanted to plan for Iraq.

There was some rubbish written above. I'm no Democrat but Clinton was a tour de force. The GOP better make damned sure he doesn't come back into this thing 'cause he'll whip the butts off of any of them.

Republican#1.Bruce..writes something about a trib
writer..what a surprise!

Anything Clinton would have done about terrorists, would have been hounded by the republican pack dogs and claimed wag the dog about lewinski. Thats the way it is folks!

I am a (thinking) Republican but I am ashamed of the current administration. The Bush clan, if not for the FEAR FACTOR, would be running on empty. Clinton knows they are pandering to the lowest and maybe the American people will begin to see through the fog, too.

Bill is smart, smart, smart. Was a great President. So he had sex wth a consenting adult. Oh no! He lied, oh no! What is a puritanical country to do?
The Republicans have built an amazing mythology on why everything is Clinton's fault. Everything. The sad part is that the Bush years have led us to a place where we don't face our national reality. To discuss in a reasoned and intellectual way Iraq, the myth of Iraq, how we have helped breed more terrorism and hatred, is avoided at all costs. Because some people need to think we are on the course. That George W Bush is somehow smarter than everyone else and not to be doubted.
I miss hving a President that is able to articulate a policy, based on reality. I forgot what a force of nature he is. Compared to the pathetic bumbler we have in office today.

I just want to say that regardless of their politics, regardless of Al-Qaeda or Lewinsky. Clinton projects the image of a President, and if you look at the work he is trying to do with his Initiative it is still the work of a great leader. We will have to see how Bush accomidates himself after his term is over.

Jay Allen:

It's interesting you point out Mike Wallace who happens to be Chris Wallace's father. I'd like to know what his dad thought of the whole thing.

Please. He evaded the question.... Clinton style. It's all a plot.... a Rove conspiracy........ just like Monica. It depends on what you mean by the word "is" ........ Bill, go have a cigar !!

If Bill Clinton were president, this country would be soooo much better off than it is today.

Does anybody seriously believe W is one tenth the president Clinton was? W has been a complete disaster.

Boy, you right wingers sure know how to attack people. Pretty nasty.

So if I were to attack, I'd say that Bush is a complete idiot and anyone who doesn't see this is as much an idiot as he is. The only president who was worse is Warren G. Harding. Or maybe he wasn't so bad because at least HE didn't become the primary recruitment tool for terrorists.

If his absurd foreign policy model continues, we will be in a perpetual war for the next 40 years! The only way to stop this is to put the balance of power back into the government. I don't care of the balance comes from Libertarians just as long as they're not on Bush's payroll.

I can't believe we saw the same Wallace/Clinton interview. The Prez lost his cool which showed he was obviously sensitive to the question about bin Laden. You think he showed leadership? Think failure...

All of the videos of Clinton on the Fox show have been removed from youtube at the request of Fox News (according to youtube's site).

To quote the columnist:

"You just don’t want too many voters thinking that by voting for Democrats this November, they just might be voting for him (Clinton)."

You mean, like the majority of the American people never did in the first place?

I certainly prefer Clinton to the current president, but this revisionist view him of some exceptionally popular president had got to stop. He won ONLY because of a rogue Republican (Perot) and his personal approval ratings never came close to his job ratings, which were inflated by a fake economy that has since popped.

He was SOOOO popular that his VP lost to an idgit like George W.

Some credibility, please.

The Clinton haters should study history. Read "Against All Enemies" from Richard Clark and see how much Clinton did to fight terrorism. How much did the new Bush Administration do to fight terrorism? Zero.

um, did any of you "pro-clinton" libs actually watch the same interview??? he went on an absolute childish tirade that made himseld look like an 8 year old trying to get out of stealing cookies from the cookie jar. the questions Chris asked were EASY QUESTIONS!!!! he wasn't even in Clinton's face, and he was very nice and formal with the man. Clinton was out for blood, but instead of him boiling the "neo-cons" he boiled himself in his own beat-red face, high blood pressure, whining like a baby's blood, don't try to defend a pathological liar, this was a childish interview from a man that ran the country like a child. and to those of you who think that Clinton should be in office now, and that the 90s were the best years... two words for you TECHNOLOGICAL BOOM, a 4 year old could have run this country when that tech-boom happened, and the economy would still have been great, and oh by the way, did you see the economy slumping as Clinton as exiting, now it's higher than it's ever been, under who, BUSH

"There was a moment when I almost felt sorry for Wallace before I remembered how much more he gets paid then I do."
Maybe they would pay you more if you used proper grammar. (use 'than' not 'then')

What Clinton did in this piece was stand up for himself against the conservative spin doctors. He did it in such a way that unless you've been drinking from the Karl Rove kool aid trough, you came away wistful for a time when our leaders had this kind of moxie. John Kerry took a beating from the Swift Boat veterans who were lying through their teeth and ran away like the 98 pound weakling on the school yard. Clinton would never do that he gets people to believe what he says because he beleives it. You can't pee on this man's leg and tell him it's raining, no sir. Oh and he gets through complete sentences without saying "ummm" or "uhh" what a concept. After watching our former President I am reminded what a great leader and statesman he is, and our current President is not.

"BJC is a big baby whining about would'ves-could'ves & should'ves. He sounded more like Howard Dean or Mike Wallace."

Sounds a lot like you Bushies. You guys are lame, through and through. Completely incompetent. And to keep the attention off of your failures, somehow we're debating things that happened 12 years ago. Sorry. You have failed. Not just failed, but failed spectacularly. I am much more in favor of a competent prez than any political party. Bush is an imbecile. Christ, at least Teddy R. and Truman were Repubs that had integrity. Bush is the class clown, postized for you mediocre, fat, lazy asses. Enjoy. Life's getting ready to a lot tougher for you in about 7-8 years.
Try running with your stomach staples.....

Just because someone says something in a forceful way does not make it true. I know it is hard for every Clinton lover to fathom that their man ever did anything wrong or was, in fact incompetent, but there is plenty of printed material to refute every point he tried to ram down Wallace's throat. Even the book by Dick Clark, Clinton refers to contradicts Clinton's statements. For the record, there were two extremely lucky men in the 90's, OJ Simpson and Bill Clinton. OJ Simpson could not believe his luck in being exonerated and Clinton could not believe his luck in being elected president during a very, relatively speaking, peaceful time in US history and the explosion of the Internet and stock market, neither of which he had absolutely nothing to do with. The best that can be said of his administration was they did not screw it up. He may be a masterful politician but at the end of the day he was and always had been a pathological liar, concerned with Bill Clinton and his legacy first.

Whatever he did or didn't do you have to admit the man is good. He could, and has, given Karl Rove a run for his money.

My friends they are corrupt...pretty much all politicians are corrupt at that level. OBL wasn't that much of a threat to the perception of most of the intelligence community. There were only a handful of intelligence types who *did* think he was a threat. and everyone from the first Bush waved a hand at the problem.

They're perception was definitely wrong, but Bill Clinton wasn't the only one for whom OBL didn't raise any red flags. Hindsight is 20/20.

In his own personal life, the man is a sleeze. But he did make one damn fine President. When you ask the question "are you better off now than you were 8 years ago" the answer is a ear splitting, echoeing, resounding NO!!!! Not just our safety (which, for the most part isn't Clinton's responsbility) but our domestic financial security.

No matter how you cut it...W has screwed up royally. At least Clinton had some idea of what he was doing. I look a W and see him occupying the same cloud as Paris Hilton.....the man has not got a CLUE!!!

Too many of the 'comments' that attack WJC are not signed. Why? I guess courage is too risky.

The nation was better when Clinton was President. Period. That's what neo-cons hate the most. There is not a single area of society or American life that has been improved since 2000. The 1990s were the best and most peaceful years of American history EVER. Clinton balanced the budget. Bush has destroyed it. The nation was better under Clinton. Period.

Bill Clinton was arrogant, mean and just plain embarassing to watch. That you think his "performance" was great says a lot about what kind of person you are, too.

Bruce, if Clinton has the talent you suggest he does, I guess GWB has no more talent than the guy washing the cocktail glasses in the kitchen after the show.

Ah, it seems the old divide and conquer trick never fails to incite the masses!

Meanwhile, while the pretend government pretends to govern responsibly, "we" sacrifice our children in its name.

Pretend governments, pretend wars (against fighting methods, not fighters).

Is there anything you folks aren't sufficiently afraid of yet, that the government can save you from by killing someone?

Clinton is a master showman for the same reason that W is a failure at being a master politician. Politics is nothing but a show. A very bad one at that.

Voting is treason. It legitimizes an unconstitutional form of government.

Those 8 years of peace and prosperity are still bugging the GOP, aren't they? I can;t believe how they are still hanging on to Clinton bash nearly 6 years after they have had sole control. If only they could look at their own with such attention, we would all be better off. Clinton made me proud to be a progressive.

Bill is so smart !! Today he started Hilary's run for President. Read my lips ! Hilary goes for president and today Bill started her campaign today. Dem vs Rep. 1-0

Bill Clinton...pffft..please....

Respected and admired?

Ha...funniest thing I've heard today.

Silly Libs.

FINALLY a shot is called a shot.
Thank you Bill Clinton !
How wonderful to see a president again who can think and talk AND will not be intimidated by those who twist the truth even to lying.

We need more Clinton actions if this country is to survive.

R

I can’t believe you people still fall for Bill Clinton’s lies. If he did not tell the truth about his indiscretions what makes you think he is telling the truth about National Security. The truth is we have become a weak nation thanks to the lies spewed out by both republicans and democrats. You should ask why it is terrorists screw with the U.S.A. but not with China.

Frank James:

Mr. James, excellent article. Thanks

R

Clinton admitted not getting Bin Laden, but Bush has had 5 years, unlimited resources at his disposal, total focus on this guy, and no close to finding him than any of us are. I wont blame GWB directly but if you look at our government there are too many chiefs and not enough indians or better known as a clusterbuck (insert f for b) and it is getting worse. Due to the Iraq war, we have now gained more enemies than ever before and more than likely some nation we are giving money to assists OBL everyday. But by the same token Rudy G and his ex-police chief are making money as "security consultants" and becoming richer each day. Only in America.

One of the funniest editorials I've ever read. The only lesson one needs to observe regarding the upcoming election is that democrat candidates feel that diplomacy will win the day over war. History has shown that after 8 years of such diplomacy, our payoff was 9/11. And there ends the lesson.

Agreed!

I thought Bill Clinton was right on yesterday.I applaud him for saying what should have been said long before this. A former republican voting Democrat all the way now!

the former president has the strong emphasis of what is going on at the present administration.if, he is still the president of this country peace and order situation is not so grave as this.

Yea, yea, yea. Who we gonna blame when some Islamic rag-head illegally enters this country and detonates a nuclear device made in Iran, North Korea or Iraq? Clinton, because he did not get OBL, Bush because he allowed the Iraqi's to maintain their forces after 1991, Bush #2 because he de-throned an idiot using WMD to kill his own people? It really dosen't matter. After Washington is blown up, we all will be looking back blaming whichever party is ruling. I would like to suggest, we stop being an nation of apathetic morans and get our butts focused on what the after effectes are going to be when this happens..........becasue it is going to happen as long as we fail to take issues with what is good and just for the American people. Why can we not just do the right thing for once? If we do not get our collective crap together, we are going to become a politically correct society of morans becasue we did not answer the call to insure OUR COUNTRY is not invaded by the terroists of the world who do not have value of life and only wish to destroy another prople. What is to going to take for us to understand this? Another Pearl Harbor or 9/11? The oceans are not wide enough now to prevent war coming to American soil!!! We should take every precaution, anticipate every kind of attack that could take place and defend against it. Yes, even at teh expense of some third world country we are giving free aid to. Our United States of America, even with all her faults, should become the big NUMBER ONE!!!!

Let's not forget what the Republicans were screaming while Clinton was bombing bin Laden’s training camps: 'he's just doing it to distract us from the Monica thing.' Yeah, they really said that--I know you remember. And now they'd like to blame bin Laden, and terror on who?

Rip 'em a new one Bill!

Infomercials for Ginsu knives? ...Bruce ?

You'd probably buy Ginsu knives by the gross or more if GWB said they would help
"stay the course".

Thinking people know that GWB would have "stayed the course" if he were captain of the Titanic ... even after seeing the ice burg.

AND even if there was a way to avoid it,

Chris Wallace has a pretty low "truthiness" quotient (lying weasel) and Fox News makes Pravda look like the objective journalism by comparison. Clinton just didn't let them get away with their typical BS. He didn't look "unhinged" or "unstable". What nonsense. Looks like we need some type of "truthadone" program for Fox News junkies.

I can only say how can we get rid of the 25th amendment. We need him back ASAP. The mess we are in now will hunt us forever. When are people going to learn this was a scholar of a president not the average joe blow. Touche! Clinton you were blessed with brains, savey and boldness.

spin, spin, spin ... the wild world of spin. ok, for all the right wing spinners that think wjc did nothing for eight years ... here ya go:

http://bcsia.ksg.harvard.edu/BCSIA_content/documents/In_the_Name_of_National_Sec urity.pdf
[Between 1994 and 2000 the U.S. doubled its annual expenditures on terrorism, bringing the total to more than $10 billion, with $11.3 billion proposed for 2001. 1 Even more telling was the dramatic increase in the monies allocated domestic preparedness: from virtually nothing earmarked specifically for the issue in 1995, in 1997 the total grew to $130 million, by 2000 topping $1.5 billion]

clinton requests anti-terrorism from senate:

http://www.cnn.com/US/9607/30/clinton.terrorism/

debunking some of the crap that flows from the mouths of morons like yourself:

http://www.buzzflash.com/perspectives/Clinton_and_Terrorism.html

Bush admin reduces anti-terrorism prior to 911:

http://www.americanprogress.org/site/pp.asp?c=biJRJ8OVF&b=39039

here's just a few others:

-Clinton sent legislation to Congress to TIGHTEN AIRPORT SECURITY. (Remember, this is before 911) The legislation was defeated by the Republicans because of opposition from the airlines.

-Clinton sent legislation to Congress to allow for BETTER TRACKING OF TERRORIST FUNDING. It was defeated by Republicans in the Senate because of opposition from banking interests.

-Clinton sent legislation to Congress to add tagents to explosives, to allow for BETTER TRACKING OF EXPLOSIVES USED BY TERRORISTS. It was defeated by the Republicans because of opposition from the NRA.

-Of Clinton's efforts says Robert Oakley, Reagan Ambassador for Counterterrorism: "Overall, I give them very high marks" and "The only major criticism I have is the obsession with Osama"

-Paul Bremer, Bush’s appointed leader (Civilian Administrator) of Iraq disagreed slightly with Robert Oakley as he believed the Clinton Administration had "correctly focused on bin Laden.

-Barton Gellman in the Washington Post put it best, "By any measure available, Clinton left office having given greater priority to terrorism than any president before him" and was the "first administration to undertake a systematic anti-terrorist effort"

"I tried and I failed. But at least I tried."

How hard were you trying when Somalia offered Osama on a platter? lol

Clinton vs. Clinton:

"I ordered the CIA to get him. We put out contracts. I came closer to killing Osama than anyone has since..."

"We just didn't think he was a big threat then. We didn't think they had the capability to hit us."

Methinks Mr. Bill is taking flip-flop lessons from Scary Kerry!

I can only say how can we get rid of the 25th amendment. We need him back ASAP. The mess we are in now will hunt us forever. When are people going to learn this was a scholar of a president not the average joe blow. Touche! Clinton you were blessed with brains, savey and boldness.

Bill Clinton correcta solran, nee daanda wrong panrai mapillai.

I just love Bill Clinton, an imperfect human being, telling it as it is, not spinning like the current administration who control their audiences to a fine art form. I live in New Zealand, I am an American Citizen, the best of both worlds but I miss America because of it's willingness to look deeply within itself. The Right in America is fear driven and they will use the fear issue to batter Democrats. Unfortunately Democrats are their own worst enemy. Where is the trust, faith, passion. Bill has no problem accessing his. In the mid term the Republicans won't win, it will be the Democrats who lose. I sat patiently while the god aweful NZ Internet connection slowly down loaded the Clinton interview and then watched every single passionate word and thought, what was Rupert Murdoch thinking? Fox showing the truth, wow!

I 've been waititng for this moment for so long. Nobody does it better than him.HAHA

Somebody needs to convince Bill Clinton to run for presidency, again. Our country needs major PR work, and he is the only person since Reagan that foreign-states actually like.

Go Bill!

It's quite clear GWB took his eye off the terrorism ball when he came into office, and our country paid a terrible, and ever increasing pricve.

It sure was nice to remember we once had a President who could construct a sentence without agonizing pauses, and perhaps understands that some things are complex... not just the stupid 'you are with us or against us' BS.

If only Bill could run again. We American's are so much worse off that 6 years ago in so many ways, it makes me shudder to think about it.

Keep Clinton out of the country Mr. James? Bill Clinton was a lightening rod for failed campaigns the last time around. Carl Rove destroyed and defeated virtually every politician Bill Clinton backed the last time around. If anyone should want Clinton out of the country it should be the Democrat candidates. Are you kidding me with this stuff?

Bill Clinton was a good president. I find it amusing that someone would blast him for taking the Marines out of Somalia. I guess Reagan didn't 'cut and run' from Lebanon after all of those poor Marines died.

Good for you Pres.Clinton! It is about time someone pulled these biased, loud mouthed, poor excuse for journalists up short.

Why doesn't anyone ever have the nerve to ask Clinton why he authorized the release of our top secret missile technology to communist China? And why did he back-date an Executive Order to avoid prosecution for that action? Why did the Clinton/Gore campaign receive a record fine for receiving illegal campaign donations from communist China via phony companies? Do I really need to connect the dots? And how about Clinton and Carter helping North Korea and Iran obtain nuclear technology on the stupid notion that they would actually ABIDE by the nuclear non-proliferation treaty they signed? Bill Clinton is a dangerous man. He made the world a FAR more dangerous place. Just ask the CIA. They estimate that by giving communist China our top secret missile techology, he single-handedly advanced their long-range nuclear program by about twelve years. Sleep tight and pray to God that his wife never makes it into the White House.

It turns out that Bush was asked why he did put more effort toward killing OBL by Richard Ben-Veniste
9/11 Commissioner in a private interview according to Ben-Venister's interview with Wolf Blitzer (CNN).
IMO Bush did not have believable answer.

I've paid to hear Clinton talk for the same reasons listed in the article. He is as sharp and as adept a speaker as has ever graced the White House. Flawed the man might be but, after having to listen to the stumbling, bumbling incoherancies of the present (I hate using this word to desribe Bush) leader, I'd change the Constitution to get him back. I'd vote for his wife if it meant having him in the same White House address. This is the most important and powerful position in the world. Having less than the sharpest most eloquent speaker alive is unacceptable. This is the heart of politics. Having to tolerate a man I wouldn't invite to speak at a PTA meeting "lead" our country is a daily embarassment.

Have you ever wondered if Gore would have become President instead GWB, (by hanging chads in his brothers state of Florida), that maybe 9/11 would have not happened. But because we (I mean the country-not me as a voter) elected a man that has such an oil rich family, a grandfather (Prescott Bush) that helped fund terroism in the past that it was considered easy pickens for Al-Qaeida and bin Laden.

The unintelligence and bad strategy for this country has added up to the fuzzy math theory in my opinion.

Have you ever read "Confessions of an Economic Hitman" by John Perkins.. Interesting read.

Clinton: 1 - Fox News: 0

Clinton is smart, but his arguments are hollow. He needs to get his party in line before the election. He is the charisma of the DNC. Too bad he can't pass it around. Obviously upset at the question, Bill defended himself, but made himself look like a buffoon by continuing to blame Fox, Wallace, and the RNC for the mere fact of answering a legitimate question. His reaction is quite telling. He feels that he is responsible and needs to let the world know how much he tried to do. I think he did try, but there is no sense in being such a big baby about it.

Frank is right. Nobody does it better than Clinton. Nobody blames other people for his shortcomings, nobody talks off subject to divert attention from the real question and nobody loses his temper quite as quick. Clinton's years as President were not bad, but if we got half of what he tried to impose, we would all be waiting in line for Doctors like our Canadian friends and wondering why our paychecks are taxed to fund Congressional pet projects. He is at his core selfish (as most of us are) and will do almost anything to protect his legacy.

Many thanks for your choice of comments.
I read the whole thing several times.

It,s a shame I can,t vote Democ., because of
their abortion stand. And I can,t vote Rep.,
because of way the rich have been made
richer and the poor, poorer during this
past administration.

What can a Catholic do?

The Republicans can spin, spin, and spin some more. But it's not going to change the truth in the slightest. Clinton tried to get bin Laden because he knew the danger he represented. Turns out he missed, but at least he took a shot at him. Bush did....nothing. Nothing!

But of course it's all Clinton's fault. Of course it is. Just like everything this administration screws up is somebody else's fault.

Katherine

I spent my formative years in business under 8 years of Reagan and four years of Bush #1. The GOP bunch never did anything for me except collect my payroll taxes and give the pork to their buddies. Under Clinton, my business actually prospered. I look at the nineties as good years! When Bush #2 was elected, I moved my logistics business into beer distribution. I remained prosperous under the thinking the GOP bunch would once again re-distribute wealth and generally make people feel miserable. People tend to drink more beer when things ain't so good. Business for me has been quite good! Who says Americans don't learn and adapt. Thanks Karl Rove!

Clinton's passion, conviction, and intellect are sorely missing from #43's repertoire. We need leadership like this on both sides. Politicians speaking their minds in a public forum. Granted Clinton has less to lose now by doing so, but people get "it" with this kind of delivery, agree with it or not. Why else would we all be so riveted by it regardless of side of isle one aligns with. I ask you, when was the last time you could use all three of these words, passion, conviction and intellect, to describe our president, VP, Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, Speaker of the House, your Senator or your Rep?

Clinton is not the only president who has "tried and failed to kill Bin Laden". The current president is on the same track. And he has blown billions more and sacrificed thousands of lives. The result? Bin Laden is still around, plotting his next attack.

I rather have that "I did not have sexual relations with that woman," lie than that "Iraq has weapons of mass destruction," lie.

Fox News is disgusting.

Once again fact check here. The REpublicans in Congress stop all of Clintons Bills on terrorism. BILLS LIKE Tighten Airport Security,Better tracking of terrorist money and better tracking of explosives used by terrorist. Now here what Bush did when he took office backed off Clinton anti-terrorism efforts, shelved the Hart-Rudman report, cut anti-terrorism efforts by DOD,Halted the Predator drone tracking Bin-Laden, and did nothing on the CIA report of Aug 6th reporting al-Qaeda was going to attack by hijacking airliners. Now what did Bush do went on vacation. And what do you do here Blame Clinton thats over no more those are facts on the record not bull

All I know is I have great
respect for Bill Clinton!
I live in Little Rock, Arkansas
and ever since he built his
Presidential Library here my
property value has skyrocketed!
I bought an apartment building
for $131,000 in 2003 and it appraised
for $250,000 in 2006.
My capitol city, which I love,
has been revitalized thanks to
President Clinton.

As far as the Chris Wallace interview goes,
I admire President Clinton's passion! The fact
that he admits his mistkakes in catching Bin Laden shows great strength and leadership.

I saw the video excerpt and I'm glad neocons appear too inept and self absorbed to see how this can help the Democrats. It does and it will. President Clinton, having the familiarity and experience of actually succeeding at doing the work of President is shown here, passionately telling it like it is and exposing the corrupt, right-wing, porpoganda machine for what it is. It's the facts buddy! Clinton DID do everything he could to stop Osama bin Laden. What he forgot to mention was that the short siighted Republican conservatives did everything they could to try and stop him! THey claimed he was trying to change the subject from
Monica! Republicans are cowards and our children are dying for it.

"redefine the word "is" again."

Was and is an important reference to a legal cae that was very important at the time. But few who were not lawyers understood. To them it was the ultimate quibble. Every time I see this I think "another person who did not get it."

I think it is funny that the "state run" FOX NEWS network has removed the interview from YouTube. It just shows their cowardice. They are frightened that President Clinton made one of their "state run reporters" look like a trembling idiot on live television. I totally believe that FOX NEWS definatley brought President Clinton there under false pretenses. It serves them right that President Clinton showed who is boss!!

Thank you PRESIDENT CLINTON!!!

Is it too late to remove term limits? !!!!!

Bruce, Jay, et. al., you have completely missed the boat on this one...Clinton stands head and shoulders above other presidents we have had this century, primarily for his intellect, his ability to read and absorb complex information about complex topics, I know, I have seen it up close...all the nattering right-wing nabobs of negativity are just jealous of his intellect and the fact that their favorite cant even string two complete sentences together in public, let along discourse on 15 complex topics in one interview and show a nuanced understanding of them...the fact is, we live in a complex world, with all shades of gray, those who don't like Clinton want the world served up black and white, evil doers and those destined for the Rapture...well guys, wake up and smell the roses, Bubba speaks the truth and the truth, well, you can't take the truth......

He's the greatest leader of our times and absolutely brilliant and intelligent. It's time people looked past his private mistakes and called him for what he really is

N.I.E.- August 10, 2001.

BIN LADEN DETERMINED TO ATTACK INSIDE U.S.

Flash to Condi -

'Well, it did'nt tell us what to do about it.'

Keep up your fantasies, Clinton-haters. The above sums it up. GWB has been the best thing to happen to Osama since the CIA.

Two points:

1) If John Kerry played full-contact defense the way Bill Clinton understands and plays it, he'd be president today. This ain't flag football, fellas.

I understand that while at Oxford, Clinton tried rugby. Not one for finesse, he merely tackled the guy with the ball. Crude, but often effective.

2) I seem to recall a few brief articles about the Clinton handover to Bush and how the current administration went out of their way to refute and ignore the debriefings -- at our peril. However, the media (are you listening, Bruce?) focused more on the missing W's from West Wing keyboards (turned out it was Gore's people in the OEOB). The media is missing a crucial story here.

While the sycophantic nature of Mr. James (as well as some of the self-touted "intelligent" comments) is really quite humorous, I find it absolutely hysterical that there are still those out there who love this man - to the point where they saw a positively wretched performance as a success. Seems to me that the recent criticisms of WCJ's inactions might be hitting a bit too close to home for his comfort.

Keep it up, folks. Keep thinking you are the "intellectually superior" group. Keep changing the subject. Keep saying that a "fear campaign" is the GOP's method, when, in fact, the Left mounts its own such devise in reverse. That is exactly why you have lost, are losing and will continue to lose.

God, I love you guys (uh, is it OK to say "God" or is that offensive to you too?).

Yikes! The 9/11 comission report indeed supports clintons claims and not the republican claims.

Republicans cried 'Wag the Dog' Every chance they had and now they claim they support Clinton?!

THe republicans Block anti terrorism legislation put forth by clinton and the democrats,( Again easily verifiable) and now they claim they supported Clinton?!

I guess the Real Question to ask is " were the Republicans Lying Then or are they Lying Now?"

Awright, Guys n Gals. Here it comes. I worked in one of the deepest, darkest intel agencies during the Clinton years. What Clinton said during the interview was 100% correct. We spent soooo much time looking for Bin Laden that we thought the President was nuts. We didn't understand how bad Bin Laden was and we thought our efforts were a waste of our time and the taxpayers' money. We came really close to blasting Bin Laden a couple of times. It was the events that worked against his capture. It was NOT because Clinton wouldn't give the word.

Come 9/11, most of us were totally gobsmacked. We perceived Bin Laden to be a wimpy rich kid who was out playing cowboys and Indians. Little did we know.

Now that the new Intel Report is out, maybe people will start seeing things the way they really ARE and will stop listening to a President who has the brains of a third-grader.

"YOU ARE READING "THE CLINTONAGO TRIBUNE"

Yep back to 'the party of personal responisbility' Excuse #543 Blame the liberal media.

Does anyone take the republicans seriously anymore?

It's rare that I ever chime into these discussions, but some of you are suggesting in your e-mails that the Chicago Tribune is pro-Clinton. You've got to be kidding. The Chicago Tribune, in its entire history, has not once endorsed a democrat for president. That is a fact.
What is true about Bill Clinton, regardless of how you feel about him, is that he is intelligent and can hold a brilliant dialog.

the trust dosen't need to be defended. finally someone stands up and calls BS when it being pulled. Time to start fighting this propiganda and stop sitting back on our couches and saying "can you believe how messed up things are". call is as it is. BS!

props Bill. Frankly I thought he was subdued considering.

Fox News is our version of Pravda.

We are lucky to have Bill Clinton, but unlucky the GOP was allowed to sidetrack him from accomplishing as much as he could have...

With a GOP house, white house and supreme court, we've become a one-party nation, which is just how they like it and just how they intend to keep it...even if it means stealing more elections.

In one of the paragraphs starting with "There was a moment when I almost felt sorry for Wallace..." you mentioned Wallace makes more money and I'll tell you why.... he probably has better grammar than you.

In the same paragraph you write "Wallace before I remembered how much more he gets paid then I do." It's not "then" it should be "than."

Would have been nice if Clinton got all worked up about security when he was in a position to actually do something about it.

Does it not strike anyone else as somewhat worrying that a forthright and compelling interview with a politician, albeit quasi-retired, should provoke such a comprehensively divisive reaction? From an objective perspective based, entirely on the established facts, it is, and has been, incontrovertibly clear to anybody with a passing interest in world affairs that Osama Bin Laden was most certainly a name that was familiar to all save the most opprobriously uninformed many years before the 911 attack. Clinton is undoubtedly pursuing his own, and the democratic parties, agenda in replying as he has to the questions presented; nonetheless, nothing of the veracity of which he asserts on the facts presented can seriously be in any way challenged as anything but correct. Surely the tenacity with which the Clinton era pursuit of OBL occurred could hardly have been disputed? Evidently however, it seems to be. That in itself is worrisome.

I don't like Bill Clinton, but I've always thought he was well spoken and had poise. He was neither with Wallace. He was definitely off his game. If it were a win for Dems, you would not see the DNC coming out attacking Wallace and Fox. You would just see them gloating. Instead, they turned up the vitriol more quickly than Bill's former campaign "instance response" team did back in the 90s. I guarantee you that Bill was not happy with his performance and was not happy with having lost it like he did. Frankly, he came of unhinged. Definitely not what I've come to expect from Mr. Clinton.

Frank,

I'll leave the nonsense of calling Bill Clinton the greatest president ever to the other Leftists on this board.
But let me ask you this: How did Bill Clinton do in electing Democrats to the House and Senate while he was in office? And what makes you think he can do better now?

BILL CLINTON, WITH THIS ENTERVIEW,HE SHOW THOSE, RIGTH WING, REPUBLICANS, NO WAY THEY CAN PLAY AROUND, WITH HIM, GOD BLESS HIM.........

Clinton slapped Wallace around like a red-headed step child. I like how republicans want to refer to a smack-down as a tantrum, and tantrums as smack-downs, remember Cheney's fine show of professionalism on the Senate floor? Republicans HATE inteligent speakers. Clinton is one of the best. He held Wallace to the spot, and didn't cowtow like so many others would've done. The louder the republicans scream the more trouble you can tell they're in.

The reason Bill Clinton causes so much upset amongst the neo-conservatives is because he continues to be right on the issues.

Hey, the truth hurts: he was the one who actually made a concerted effort to go after Osama Bin Laden, unlike President Bush's half-hearted efforts in Afghanistan while pursuing a failed Iraq policy instead.

Wasn't it Mr. Bush who let the Cole then 911 happen on his watch? Funny how those facts don't make HIM weak on terror.

Hasn't the terrorist threat gotten worse (see the official reports of the US intelligence agencies) while Mr. Bush has wasted time, lives, money and international comity in Iraq?

Somehow President Clinton gets blamed for a few deaths in Somalia while thousands of our brave soldiers (and don't forget all the American contractors too) have died in an Iraq conflict that we now know was rushed into, ill-prepared and unnecessary at best.

Didn't Mr. Clinton's air and ground offensive in the former Yugoslavia succeed entirely, while his nay-sayers said it would only lead to another Vietnam? Isn't our current situation in Iraq the one that actually resembles Vietnam?

All I hear from you crybabies is Monica this or Hillary that, but the truth is that President Clinton has something more on his side than any Republican nay-sayer can even begin to attempt to argue against with a straight face: he proved that the real way to achieve a strong economy and lower the national debt is with Democratic policies that expand the middle class, and not the Republican mantra of cutting taxes at all costs hoping for the long-disproven "trickle down" theory to somehow materialize.

Like it or not Bill Clinton is the spokesperson for true Liberalism. That the American public might actually get to hear such truths instead of the tired spinnings of Republican agencies, think tanks, and media must be pretty frightening to them.

After all, it’s in the very nature of who he is and who they are: a liberal seeks political truth where ever that should lead, while so-called conservatives instead begin with an idea and expend all their efforts fighting to protect their precious beliefs. Because the truth is nether tilted to the right nor to the left, a true liberal, like Mr. Clinton, is firmly planted in the center of the political spectrum.

Be assured, Mr. Clinton will continue to fight for the truth and Republicans will continue to answer with slander. But he is not afraid and he merely proved that once again on Sunday. In the end, because Americans are not the sort of mindless sheep the Republicans hope, President Clinton’s message of liberalism and truth is sure to prevail.

When Republicans don't have a rational argument against something, they always accuse Democrats of being "confusing." Sorry our public school system didn't educate you well enough to understand a coherent argument. It is truly a pity, and our military members are paying for it with their lives.

Go Bill, Go!!!! This is what all Dems should be doing, standing up to these "Rape-the-public-cons"! My theory on John McCain: He's kissing up to Bush now to get the Pres. nomination in '08. Once he has it he'll pick Mrs. Clinton as his VP running mate. Repubs will either have to vote for Hilary or for the Dems or not vote at all. That will really steam them. Then whomever gets the nod can go after the Bush administration for war crimes both foreign and domestic.

Certain realities are "in vogue", and others are not. That a politican needs to "fire the emotions" of voters happens to be "in vogue". That we need to stop fossil fuel from melting down the ice caps is not. America is facing a 21st Century where Manhattan Island and half of Florida will be submerged under the Atlantic Ocean, while the Chicago Tribune is still indulging in Ayn Rand radical individualism, charisma, and its abuse. So if you were Karl Rove and the RNC, what would you pray for? You should pray for your children to have better ethics than yourself.

I cannot figure this out. What exactly was it about the Clinton presidency that the neocons didn't like? Was it the peace that bothered them? Or was it the prosperity?

Clinton's administration and its policies were manifestly good. Indeed, this was a safer and freer nation then. Our image and stature on the national stage were stronger and more well respected. Our economy was more stable. Our Federal budget was in balance. Gasoline was $1.25 per gallon.

It will take decades, if ever, for our nation to recover from Bush's domestic and foreign policies. Bush's policies and actions have made us less safe and less prosperous.

John D:

You call Clinton "Slick Willy", but it seems to me that we need a similar nickname for the current resident of the White House. What should we call a man who gets away with all this: ignored the pre-9/11 warnings about Bin Laden in the Presidental Daily Briefings; rewards the fools (Tenant, Bremmer) in his administration with the Presidential Medal of Freedom; tolerates incompetence in some of the most important posts in his administration (Rumsfeld, Chertoff)?

Slick Georgie doesn't quite cut it, does it?

Perhaps Stupid George?

I love to see Clinton whine. I am not much of a Rush Limbaugh fan, but I happened to hear him this morning destroy Clinton and his performance with Chris Wallace. I am a lifelong Democrat but once again I realized how much I dislike Bill Clinton.

It blows my mind, literally, that Americans could vote for George Bush - particularly when you had such an outstanding President previously. For all his faults, Clinton is a political genius and a man of great compassion and vision.

I'm an Australian and did law at the University of North Carolina - so I would hope that I understand America. I consider myself a conservative Christian - but I do not think it's an exaggeration to say that Bush has been the worst President in history.

I travel the world for work and the vitriol and outright hate directed at America is frightening. I love the US and worry that people judge the nation by its President.

I'm white, english speaking and wealthy - so people assume I'm American before I tell them otherwise. Before 2001, this was a positive thing. People loved America.

Nowadays, I'm greeted with suspicion, dislike and scorn. When I tell them I'm Australian the change in their attitudes is astonishing.

And the change from 2001 onwards is all thanks to the insensitivity, arrogance and buffoonery of one man.

Like on that commerciall BRILLIANT!!!!

Bill was ready for the sucker punch and he wailed that wimp.

BTW, who actually knows when the planning for 911 started?

Thousands of our troops have been killed and seriously injured along with many more thousands Iraqis, including children and elderly. For what? Lies. Read the Downing Street Memo.

This country has been deminished in all areas by the Bush Crime Family. Aside from the deaths, there is the 7 TRILLION DEBT, for example. And cutting vetrans benefits or sending troops to war with 1960's equipment, armor vest and thin skin vehicles.

Our citizents need to get focused and see that our once held in high esteem nations is being taken over by the neo-con.

Go for it Bill and Dems take his lead.

John

Interesting reading these comments. The reality is that Fox News and all these hard right cable news shows have declining ratings just like the current occupant and his rubber stamp congress. But somehow people still persist in believing that Bubba has declining ratings while Dubya and the neo-cons are flying high.
We're going to see another incredibly negative campaign season designed to keep voter turnout low, add in a few stolen votes, keep the lunatic religious right base fired up. Bingo! another razor thin "landslide". But who knows. One day maybe people will see through this nonsense. One hopes so. The center has always managed to hold. One can only hope that the day comes when it reasserts itself and this sad chapter ends.

I judge the success of an article by what it draws in neocon ranting -- looks like you have a real winner.

Don't you feel sorry for Monica Lewinski -- that poor girl will never get her name out of print as long as the neocons have to hate Clinton -- if they're actually driven by hatred, and not fear. The longer it goes on the more I'm convinced that it is fear rather than hatred -- eventually you mellow out on hatred -- but fear lasts forever.
thanx, tac

Are you kidding me? I just thought he acted like a Freak.... This Article headline is funny...

What happened to the simple questions suchas when you found no wmd in Iraq you simply did'nt go back home? These neo radio stations are off the wall with their flies by the way. If I were to ask this question on their stations they would hang-up. Talk about "Hitler" yah right!

Boy, Bill really gave it to Wallace!
WHAP! BAM! BOOM!

Gave it to Wallace? It was a simple question in an INTERVIEW. That is what you do in interviews, ask questions?

Dan T.

This is why people are getting tired of politicians and politics. Nothing but hate and lies. Why can't we have politicians like Adlai Stevenson and his ilk who truly cared about the country and did not try and divide it. Both sides are equally bad and Clinton coming on TV and crying like a fat kid that gets roughed up was not ex-Presidential.

Say what you want about the interview of Clinton. The most striking thing of the day was when it comes to hair color Clinton's white looked a lot better than the shoe polish job Wallace had. Chris looked and sounded like a flake. It looked like ole Chris had that Tom Delay hair color kit.

Paige,

EZ. Adlai Stevenson lost.

What really upsets the right is that Clinton
leads Bush in popularity!

Frank,

You just print this article to generate controversary.

"Nobody Tried harder to get bin LAden" "Nobody came closer to killing him"

I waiting for him to hold his breath, roll on the floor and bang his fists into the floor. Best tantrum I've seen since my daughter was two.

Tell me that Clinton isn't the man...ever see this many posts on one item? The left loves him...and the base of the right hate him because their man couldn't talk his way out of a traffic ticket.

As a Canadian, I cannot understand the vitrol aimed at either Mr. Clinton or Mr. Bush for failing to prevent a madman attacking the US.

Both Presidents were and are under tremendous pressure to solve a problem that defies expectation. I may prefer the style of one of the Presidents, but who seriously believes that either of these men and their cabinets have not tried their very best to protect their country?

Wow I heard fox was bias but didn't realise how much so till this thing interview.

Remember this:

1. Bush was warned that a terrorist attack was imminent in August 2001, and did absolutely nothing about it; and
2. The most devastating attack in the US by Osama bin Laden took place under Bush's watch; and
3. Bush (allegedly) has tried UNSUCCESSFULLY to capture bin Laden for five years straight; and
4. Bush has invested $HUNDREDS OF $BILLIONS in his "War On Terror;" and
5. Bush received massive assistance from his "Coalition of the Willing;" and
6. Bush has committed American soldiers' lives (over 3,000 of which have been lost); and
7.Cheney's Halliburton has made Obscene amounts of money by war profiteering on the backs of the military; and
8. Bush is no more close to capturing bin Laden than Clinton was.

does anybody read this stuff???

I think Mr. Clinton's references to Richard Clarke is a fair consideration. Obviously, Mr. Clarke was not politically motivated as he served under 3 Republican presidents and 1 democratic president. His point is well taken. Why was he demoted? Why were there no security meetings until after 9-11 whereas there were daily meetings in the Clinton White House. If it is true that Bill Clinton informed Bush that his first priorities must be security, Bin Laden and Al Qaeda, it would not at all surprise me if Bush deliberately ignored these simply in rejection of all that is "Clinton-esqe." He did exactly the same thing with the middle-east. After Clinton spent the final weeks attempting to Broker an Israel-Palestine treaty, I recall Bush declaring he was going to take a hands off attitude there.
Objectively speaking, I can not for the life of me understand why anyone supports Bush. In the name of political correctness, everyone is afraid to say what is obvious...the man is stupid and unqualified to be president, and certainly has no world-vision.

Explain me just this wingers: Why 9 months of doing absolutely nothing to go after bin Laden under W? Let's see what good excuses there are for that.

Come to think of it, wingers are use to creating excuses and fantastic conspiracy-laden stories; that's all they've been doing since W's got into office. Just one excuse after another.

Anthony is right: "the man is a true leader." I suspect that some of the conservative Clinton-bashers here are right to some extent when they suggest that the former President loves the spotlight and wants to protect his legacy. I think that is true of most politicians. However, that is not the only thing that keeps this man going. Bill Clinton is genuinely concerned by the mounting problems faced by 21st-century Earth, and he not only feels it his duty to use his "bully pulpit" to do something about it, but he enjoys doing so. How can you not respect such a man?

Give me the names of two ex-Presidents who continued to use their influence to better the world after leaving office. Who comes to mind? I'll bet that 99 out of 100 people say Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. Nixon? No. Ford? Played golf. Reagan obviously was unable to. George H.W. Bush? He fishes and goes to Astros games. "Compasionate conservative" is an oxymoron. Republicans care about money (theirs), business (to make more money), religion (again, theirs), and tradition (because they are traditionally priviledged). It is the Democrats who are left to tend to the needs of the poor, the hungry, the sick, the ignored, and the oppressed.

Bill Clinton is one of our finest leaders. When in office, he did his best to protect the country WITHOUT resorting to immoral or unilateral actions or alienating our international allies. With the current administration, we are less safe, our reputation as a defender of justice is in ruins, and anti-U.S. sentiment is at an all-time high. I have the highest respect for President Clinton (and Vice-President Gore for that matter), and I hope they will continue their efforts.

Adlai Stevenson was the UN ambassador who helped Kennedy resolve the Cuban Missile Crisis with "Don't wait for the translation!" and "I am prepared to wait for my answer until Hell freezes over."

One thing that made Adlai Stevenson a better representative of the United States than John Bolton is that Adlai used REAL evidence to justify our foreign policy stances. The photographs from the Kennedy Administration were of real Cuban missile sites. John Bolton falsely claimed that Cuba had WMDs before he even got into using fake documents from Niger to justify Bush's foreign policy stance. Another thing is that Stevenson failing to win the presidency doesn't diminish his politicial contributions, it strengthens it because he didn't even let political ambitions get in the way of his integrity. John Bolton did that repeatedly by making wild claims like about Cuba and Iraq just to satisfy the NeoCons.

So to recap, Adlai Stevenson was a better politician than John Bolton and even George W. Bush because he kept his integrity when justifying any foreign policy stances to the American people and to the world.

Wallace and Fox learned the hard way not to take on Clinton! He exposed the right-wing and Fox for what they are- deceitful and sleasy

this shows a bias fox newtwork a lesson, there are always two sides to this story, and Clintons is the right one!

HEY! Is what ksensor saying true? If it is, that means that FOX is trying to squash this story from further scrutiny. Why do you think that is and why has FOX tried to do this???

I can't stand this censorship! I don't care who you are -- Republican or Democrat, Liberal or Rightwing -- if the group in power is doing everything possible to suppress information to the people (us!), they gotta go! Period.

For heavens sakes all of you. WAKE UP!!!!!

End of rant!!

All of the videos of Clinton on the Fox show have been removed from youtube at the request of Fox News (according to youtube's site).

For all the Americans out there. Clinton is revered in the rest of the world for his humanity and undestanding of his world. The Neo-Conservative Junta in power in Washington has made your country despised, even amongst your allies. No amount of gnashing of teeth by the failed Neocons is going to change that.

I'm an Independant and I'm disgusted with both sides.

Clinton has not been President for 6 years. Bush hasn't exactly killed bin Laden either. I don't want to hear any Republican complaining about Clinton not getting bin Laden, or being responsible for 9/11, because REPUBLICANS took precious resources and wasted them on the Monica Lweinsky Impeachment mess. Half of letting the al Qadea planning get away from us was the distraction of that piece of idiocity. Point a finger at Clinton and four point back at Newt Gingrinch et al, navel gazing politicians all. Same deal on Somalia. I remember Republicans howling for us to leave SOmalia. You can't change that- complain about Clinton pulling out means accepting blame for REPUBLICAN calls to pull out.

On the other hand, I would like to see Democrats give me something to vote for. Clinton is a conservative Democrat. He's less conservative than Bush, and his people were a bit more subtle in their corruption, but K Street was just as crazy. Tell me how you will increase the Pentagon budget by defunding the pork barrell marriage initiatives, how you will deal with No Child Left Behind, how you will secure the Border and punish companies that hire illegal aliens, etc. Give me something to vote for, not against.

Until then, a pox on both of your houses, Democrat and Republican.

Even at his worst, and lowest point as President, Bill Clinton runs circles around this rediculous, ignorant, present administration. The facts are clearly in favor of Bill Clinton's performance as President. He will shine in history, while the present administration will be shown as perpetrators of the irrepairable damage they have done to this nation.

Hey journalist person,

Wallace gets paid more 'than' you. Not more 'then' you. That's a rookie mistake, friend. Please do right by the Tribune and tighten up your righting.

Great opinion piece, though.

Seth

I am intrigued and amused by the assumption of the author and many of the posters on this thread that Clinton’s performance was of value to the Democratic cause. I realize that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I hope that interview is run over and over again.

Given the epidemic of BDS in this country, nothing Bill Clinton says or does can significantly increase the turnout of the political left - they are already fully activated. On the other hand, conservatives – some recognizing legitimate flaws in the Bush administration and some just beat down by the constant droning of the MSM – may not turn out in maximum numbers.

However, nothing turns out Republicans voters for an off year election like Slick Willy’s pontifications - Bill wagging his finger at the camera while denying culpability is virtually the same as a confession and most Americans know it. His shrill and hysterical response could do more to motivate weary conservatives and even moderate independents than anything Karl Rove could concoct even if he was the evil genius the left thinks he is.

I would like to remind several deluded individuals (those who think a Clinton return to political life would be a plus for the Dems) that the only way Bill could win another presidential election would be the same way he won the first two. Unless, Ross Perot is nursing a desire to spend his time and treasure again as a third party candidate (and could again succeed in securing as much as 19% of the popular vote), a new Bill Clinton run would win nothing more than the liberal base, just as before. Despite his claim of being a centrist, the truth of the matter is that independents never fell for his BS and claims of his political brilliance are as hollow as those of his alleged intellectual capacity.

Please, please bring Slick Willy back!!!

Tonight, I watched Countdown with Keith Olberman,on it he gave an excellent commentary on the state of our Country under George W. Bush, and a great viewpoint on "staterun" Fox News in America.

While listening to him, I had a warm feeling come over me,I realized that the Neo Cons are now toast, moderates from their own party are running away from them as fast as they can, they, too, know what's coming.

George W. Bush and his minions are going to be a sad footnote in the history of our great country.

They will be remembered for lying, distorting the truth, and scaring the American people into voting for them in a time of need.
They will be remembered for causing the deaths of countless American Troops, and Iraqi citizens,in a war that was fought on the trumped up intelligence that they gave us Americans.
For this Mr."President",I hope you,and your minions have a long, and happy life.....in a jail cell.

George W. Bush....you say "You are either with us,or you're against us".

George W. Bush...I say "I am with us,and I am against you".

I'm sure Kieth Olbermans commentary is on the MSNBC website,or somewhere else on the net.
It's great, check it out for yourself.

To all Republicans,

WHERE IS OSAMA BIN LADEN??????

Wanted dead or alive????....I don't think so...............nice try Dubya......

Clinton spanked Wallace, as well he should have. He showed up the false rhetoric of the Right. The Right spouts nothing but lies and misleading strawmen. Whatever Clinton did or didn't do, Bush had 9 months after the Cole attack to hunt down Bin Ladin, and did NOTHING. Somehow, that's Bill Clinton's fault.

The easiest way to tell who are real men are how they take responsibility. Richard Clarke and Bill Clinton are the only people I have heard apologizing for failing to protect the American people. Yet the event took place after both had been out of power and responsibility. The people in power at the time have dodged, lied, refused to be put under oath and blamed everyone possible except themselves for what happened.

That right there tells me a lot. And it tell me a lot about the people who still support Bush. Anyone who thinks Bill Clinton lost that exchange probably still believes Saddam himself flew those planes on September 11th. And frankly, they're not worth talking to.

... or sending troops to war with 1960's equipment, armor vest and thin skin vehicles...

So you would have proposed delaying the start of the war until we devlop, design and build massive amounts of new military hardware?

A President usually has to go to war with the military the preceeding President left him.

Pannies!

i waiting for him to hold his breath, roll on the floor and bang his fists into the floor. Best tantrum I've seen since my daughter was two.

No, that's what the current president does.

PJ: I think I understand what the neocons don't like about Clinton. He's intelligent; he makes people think. He doesn't buy into the mind control & brain washing that the current administration tries.

BTW, for anyone who missed it, Keith Olbermann once again gave a brilliant, powerful & poignant commentary tonight about the very subject of this thread. It's a a must see/read:

A textbook definition of cowardice
Keith Olbermann comments on Bill Clinton's Fox News interview
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15004160/

B.J. Clinton treated terrorism as a criminal act.
President Bush makes war on terrorism and that's why we havn't been attacked in over 5 years.
I don't think that interview with Wallace helped him in any way, I think he would make a terrible first lady....Hillary is in big trouble now!
Paulo

SOME OF YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO BE POSTING ON THE INTERNET WITH THE ATTACKS YOU ARE DISHING OUT. UNDER BUSH THE WHOLE WORLD IS GOING TO TURN AGAINST ONE ANOTHER AND CLINTON WAS NO BETTER. WE NEED AL GORE IN THE WHITE HOUSE BECAUSE AL GORE HAS A PLAN. HE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR A LOT OF THE INTERNET THAT YOU ARE POSTING ON AND HE WANTS TO SAVE OUR ENVIRONMENT, SO TURN YOUR VOTES TO HIM.

To the poster above who's searching for the current Prez' equivalent to "Slick Willy": In my family Bush #2 has always been "Weasel", or, affectionately, "The Weez". During the first election, "W" screamed out for a definition, and "Weasel" seemed to resonate with that ferret-like, smirking, insincerity. How could we have anticipated that his administration would be positively *defined* by weaselly lying? (Well, OK, yeah, they all lie, so that wasn't totally psychic. But these guys really have raised it to an art form, haven't they?)

I hope President Bill Clinton's smackdown of Faux News' Chris Wallace has shown the Democrats how to grow a pair. And for all the Limbaugh fans who continue to lie through their teeth about what Clinton did to fight terrorism, the truth is out there. It's right here on the internets. Check out the right wingers at "free republic" during that era, for example. Every single step he took to fight terrorism and catch Bin Laden was villified by these liars. All they were interested in was their Freudian obsession with his private parts. Democrats must rise up and save our beloved America from these haters. Let us once again be a beacon for decency and democracy, and respected around the world. Let us not stifle democracy at home while claiming to believe it abroad. Let America be America again!

Bill Clinton was the best president we have had since John F. Kennedy.
Maybe we could go back to FDR, who gave this country hope when it was in despair, in a deep depression, with little hope and FDR gave us that hope and we began to prosper, but then we had to fight a war, but FDR was on the radio, not talking about fear, but saying we have nothing to fear but fear itself.
I remember listening to his speeches on a battery radio when I was a little boy and our whole family had hope.
We were poor, but FDR gave us hope. Bill Clinton gave me and my family hope and we have prospered, We had hardly anything until he came along and gave this country hope, jobs, a balanced budget, yea even a surplus.
I will take Bill Clinton over anything we have had.

jack has the worst points, and just sounds like any other person who just constantly uses the same old lines that we all know are there but chooses to ignore the other facts that exist, oh well, figures

Hello Pres. Clinton,

You're the best. You had to answer the questions and you did the right thing. Wallace deserve to get his answer right to his face and you told him what "President's"....Clinton is made up of. You will always be the best. It can only take a heart like you to bring men of kind hearts to contribute $7B...... to make the world a better place. be blessed Sir and keep doing what you do best.....been a President....

If CLinton tried "so hard" to get Osama, he would have taken him when Sudan offered him a silver platter, but Clinton failed us and said no.

He also lied about Somalia. Originally, we went into Somalia with 24000 troops on a "food distribution" mission. It was Clinton that changed the mission to "warlord grab" while reducing our troops to 4000 and refusing heavy artillery requests.

That's the cold hards facts, something the Dumbocrats would do well to learn.

who the hell cares about clinton... bush let 9/11 happen he knew all about bin laden and added his own fireworks to the show along with adding a lil more thermite to wtc 7 and the twin towers.. All this to cover up his all his dirty business and have a pretext to take over the middle east... bush needs to be the center of attention not clinton. and another thing at least clinton puts up a decent conversation... Bush on the other hand cant even speak his own mind cause he is to busy looking at his notes from cheney and company or saying the word TERROR.

Finally, a man that can formulate ideas and isn't afraid of everything outside his front door.

LOL at more lies from Clinton.

Clinton says "we had a plan to take out the Taliban all drawn up and ready to go"...

And in Clarke's book, "there was no plan to take out the Taliban".

Shees, Clinton lied to the woman he got naked with every night for 20+ years, the ONE person above anyone else that he should be totally honest with... and you Clinton lovers expect me to believe him when he talks to us Average Joes... the delusional outlook of you Clinton-is-God people is simply incredible!

one lie vs. who knows how many lies....mmmmm...
lemmme think about that one.and rush limbaugh?
shut the hell up!!!!!

Bill Clinton is an intelligent, articulate MAN that admits his mistakes. Bush is an inarticulate, immature, wanna-be-dictator who in 5 years has not been able to kill Bin Laden with all the military and intelligence under his control. Clinton would have gotten Bin Laden if the military and the nay-sayers would not have been lax in their collective responsibilites and support BJC when they needed to. Tell me, who ignored the FBI memo of Aug 6th, 2001? Who demoted Richard Clarke? Who likes "My Pet Goat"? Who went into hiding on 9/11? Who has not killed or captured Bin Laden? Who said "I just don't spend that much time on it (referring to knowing where Bin Laden is - POST 9/11??) Who started a "pre-emtive war" - the 1st in our history?

Must I go on? Please get over your need to blame everything on BJC, who is a better man than you'll ever be.

Bill Clinton did a great job in his interview, and reading the right-wing response demonstrates that he has exposed a Republican weakness.

Plain and simple, this war to Republicans is more about winning elections rather than defeating terrorism. They devote more ammunition toward Bill Clinton than Usama Bin Laden.

There are two cold hard truths about Republican failure:

1. They are not willing to fund the war; they prefer their tax cuts.

2. They won't fight the war. Bush can't muster sufficient troops for battle.

These are the truths that give UBL and Al Quaida the greatest comfort -- Republicans will not commit to win.

FDR put more Americans on Normandy Beach in one day, D-Day, than GWB has fighting this war in Iraq. The reason is that if Bush ever attempted to draft all these right-wing bloggers and college students into this war, they'd kick him out of office; they are too much in love with their money, and not enough in love with their country.

This is why Republicans consider Democrats the enemy, and have given up on UBL.

Brian

Clinton displayed such a rare talent in this interview. He uncovered the reality of what that interview was really setup for. He made the situation plain and clear. I hope this trend continues. We are all starting to see and understand the mechanics of how all this works, and I hope some people aren't too proud to see with the eyes of a child, and see what is really going on.

Y'all strain at gnats. Within 10 years, the USA, Israel, UK, and Moscow will all be NUKED, and there's nothing that can be done to prevent it. (Rgeardless of any action by or against Iran or N. Korea; Musharaf will be dead within 2 years and Pakistan and its nuclear arsenal in the hands of radical Islamic extremists). Many people will blame Bush, fewer will blame Clinton, and many will be surprised and in despair when Jesus doesn't come to the rescue. The world, and this evolutionary experiment, homo sapiens, is a changing. Will Israel and/or the USA retaliate by nuking Medina, Mecca, Damascus, Tehran, Islamibad, etc? Would mankind then see the beginning of the (1000 year) end of the scourge of religious triumphalism?

Bill Clinton showed once again what an incompeten leader (and speaker!) George Bush is. The Democrats should have Bill Clinton on all their ads, telling us what has gone wrong in America the past 6 years and what course this misinformed, untruthful administration is going to take us.

It amazes me how quickly people rule out what Clinton has said based of a detail in his behavour. Come on! Really! It seems we are in an age where something clear and important in someones message is no longer important based of a typo. If the typo is wrong, perhaps the whole message is wrong... scream the psuedo-intellectuals.

Hey dude what kind of drugs are you on?? Clinton looked like a complete fool..Talking about spinning...how can you see this as a benifit to Clinton and the Dems? He looked like a guilty raving madman who lost it!! Fox Rules!!! After this interview the Dems can forget taking congress back...Slick Willie just blew it for them...who wants to vote for a party who idolizes a raving nut job, who is weak on terror!! Thanks Billy....Republicians love ya!!

You all have to remember that a good percentage of Republicans are symbolic of the "S" factor. The fact that anyone would quote NRO is simply indicative of not wanting to actually do any real research on what is actually happening. People that don't like to think prefer to follow blindly. These people actually believe Blue Collar TV. I am thinking Jeff F. is laughing all the way to the bank.

Democrats have always been the ones to take one complex issues. An example is global warming. Republicans just say it is too hard to think about things like global warming ... "Just Fill'er Up!"...hehe

Anyways... I predicted two things when Shrub (I love that name) got elected:

1. War
2. Tax cuts for the rich

Of course anyone not suffering from "S" Factor syndrome would have came to the same conclusion. The Bushes have been sponsoring war/terror since the George Walker years when grand pappy was financing Hilter. Go ahead...check the facts...

tell chris wallace he is a smarmy and a worm. not to mention i love clinton nailing him for smirking. he is a shame to his father, the real deal.

Bill Clinton was lying then (his presidency )and he's lying now. He seems to have a problem of shaking his finger at the accuser while lying....i.e. the American Public and Chris Wallace. It's sad that there are so many people in this country who condone his draft-dodging, unfaithful lack of ethics.

Great job, Mr. President!

I wish you could run again. You were brilliant, magnetic, passionate, and poised.
Even with Chris Wallace baiting you with his idiotic loaded questions, you handled yourself gracefully.

Well done!

Chris Wallace is a nice fellow, but was out matched by Clinton. Let there be no doubt, Clinton was in complete control of his emotions and message. That message was to the Dems to stand up and fight the Rove propaganda machine.

Clinton will forever be tainted by controversy, but GW Bush will go down in history as the worst president ever. God help us all.

Bravo for Billy! For those obsessed with Clinton's weaknesses, take an honest look at the guy in there now.

The Bush professionals. Some professionals. Define your mission and stick to it. What did those wonderful professionals do? They allowed themselves to be diverted into a quagmire, and a quagmire predictable from day 1. Instead of going after the big bad guy who did a bad thing to us, they created a whole new pack of bad guys. A result predictable by anyone but the fools in the White House.

Right now, the Bush professionals are being played like a fiddle by the bad guys. That's the way to lose and lose big. Keep cheering those losers? Is that your style? And to criticize Democrats, or anyone really, for not having a plan, when the Bush professionals have landed us dead-on, so to speak, in a classic untenable situation. There are no good options. Period. So they say, stick it out! And in a way, since whatever honor we have left is at stake, what else can we do? That's a pathetic strategic situation to work so hard to achieve.

With our soldiers dying and our soldiers maimed for life, and our Treasury's gold gone as sure as Spanish pieces of eight sunk by the terrorists of old, those who supported this pack of fools in Washington should hang their heads in shame. When we leave and declare victory, which we will undoubtedly have to do, and the terrorists drive into downtown Bagdhad hard on our heels to take up where we left off, I hope those with their lofty pretensions of patriotism, who apparently never heard of Patrick Henry, but would rather give up every personal liberty just to cower in a hole, who never understood what it was we stand for and should fight for, go and visit every single maimed soldier and tell them it was all for the best that they have no arms, legs, eyes or future, all for the wrong war.

Tell them. If you've got the guts.

It is amazing that President Clinton believes what he says, no matter what he says taking the side of the day even if it changes that day. All sides of our government both Republican and Democrat want to put fear into us. That is how they stay in power, get rich, doing things to keep their secrets secret, we should all know the the drill by now. My problem with President Clinton is that he feels that he is smarter than all of us, and as such he can get away with anything. He must be right for most let him....

Mr. Clinton cannot let go of the fact that he was once president. He likes to be the center of attention, and has all but been forgotten by his power-mad wife. Poor Bill, he was now has too much time on this hands even with a new Canadian girl fiend.

WJC and GWB are both dogs in the same pen. They share the same fleas, they both leave they're marks and the Media feeds off their messes.

Notice the neo-cons aren't debating the substance of what President Clinton said? They just rant and say look how he wagged his finger. Or, I never liked that man who had sex. In watching him pound that Pee-Wee Herman lookalike into the chair, it became apparent just how very fortunate we are to have had Clinton working on our behalf for 8 years. It sure makes me disappointed in what the Republican Party has done to this great nation. Not only have they given us endless war against a country that never attacked us, but also record deficits and a shameful standing in the world, where it is now perfectly reasonable to hate Americans. Oh, and a president who doesn't speak English, but I'm just being petty there. Thanks, Republicans!

PJ, I think you're wrong. I bought gas at 78 cents a gallon in 1999.

I see what you mean about the decades part, though. If ever.

And check this link, people, if you want to know who really wanted to "cut and run" in Somalia. (Hint: they run the country now.) Somalia, for the love of Pete -- this is about Somalia now? I guess some people really don't want to talk about Iragmire any more...

http://glenngreenwald.blogspot.com/2006/09/who-wanted-to-cut-and-run-from-somalia.html

Why do you all bicker over the same things. Politics, Terrorism, and money.
Clinton, whether you loathe him or love him is a good politician. Karl Rove is a good political strategist.
GWB is a good puppet.
The interview indicates that Clinton does read book(unlike GWB) and can beat Fox at its own game. Clinton knew what was coming and beat them at their own game. He was not interviewed by that moron Bill O'Reilly because he would have never let Clinton answer a question.

Think about it.
GWB does not have Bin Laden and has had six years. So don't blame Clinton.
Iraq has no more ties to Bin Laden than we do(we did sponsor his fight against the USSR, opps!)
People are dying, US Soldier are dying, their families suffer and for what?

Freedom?
If so then who's is next? Sudan? Somalia?

So stop with the general arguments, stop being manipulated by both parties and pick your candidates based on their stances issues important to you(not personalities)

THINK!!!
Cheaper gas, Bush's polls. The game of manipulation.

I would like everyone to take a challenge that an eighty year old man gave me. Go back in American history 100 years and find all the bad guys, madmen, terrorists, genocidal dictators and see what party was in bed with them and then you will know who the truth lies with.

A few thoughts, Yesterday is over, as is his administration. It is time to deal with today and plan for tommorrow. I don't know about you but I only have heard losers use the term "I tried". I think it is a big waste of time to debate "what if". I find no substance in speculation unless it is in the future markets.

One of the finest politicians that had ever walked the Earth, Clinton is. I am not interested in his human qualities, and I loathe
Politicians that are all over moral issues, and they are like moral individuals and so on. Politics is immoral per se, so no sane person should claim moral high ground if it is involved in politics. Politics is about efficiency in achieving ones goals, pure and simple. Can you or can you not achieve all or most of your stated goals. Clinton did. GWB failed in most, which is obvious.

*&%$ you right wingnuts.
I want my country back, you've abused it for far too long.
Spin all you want about your hack Republicans, in the end you all pray the real adults (read Democrats) will come along and save this countries bacon.

You guys couldn't govern your way out of a wet paper bag. Go back to counting your money and sucking your *&%$#*&!%$ thumb and step out the way so the seriuos people (again read Democrats) can start cleaning up your vile messes.

Stay the course, indeed.

Jeff (3:20) and others...why don't you actually read Richard Clarke's book...Clinton may not have formulated an ally out plan to get bin Laden (not the highest priority at the time) but spent an increasing amount of effort trying to get him as more information about al-Queda's menace came into light. Clarke spent the first nine months of W's administration trying to get him to pay attention and not one ounce of attention was paid to bin Laden until 9-11.
Perhaps the American public should read more - things like Clarke's book, and "House of Bush, House of Saud" which documents the billions of dollars Bush and Cheney's families have personally profited from their deals with the House of Saud, and American Dynasty (Kevin Phillips), which documents the Bush families war profiteering back to the Civil War. An informed public...

Will somebody give Bush a blowjob so we can impeach him!!!

Chris Wallace was too polite. Clinton tried the "best defense is a good offense" approach. When he challenged Wallace to "tell the truth, Chris", the proper response would have been "just as you did under oath in the Monica Lewinsky inquiry, Mr President".

The former president would be a God-send if he was out in the public eye more often. It would remind more people of who let us down for 8 years and why Bin Laden was able to plan and carry out his attack. It wasn't 8 months of inattention that was the primary timeframe when the attack was planned, it was during the previous 8 years.

Go ahead...put Clinton on TV daily, both of them if you want. It serves as the best reminder that the nation could have of the wrong approach to fighting terrorists.

Skillful Politician and Great President.

It's amazing to see anyone taking seriously any report or interview done by any Fox News reporter. No matter who is being interviewed or doing the interviewing the same thing always occurs, a lot of misinformation. The amount of wrong quotes, wrong pretexts, wrong context and the wrong questions is utterly mindboggling.

It also seems like everyone who is on that channel is either yelling or throwing a tantrum, or just being childish but I guess that is what sells the advertising.

It seems to me that those who get interviewed need to be a little over the top to get any attention. Otherwise, we would all be lost in those flashy graphics and music.

Fox is where bad reality shows came from and for some reason all us conservatives seem to have forgotten that. Where all they talk about is AIDS, gays, terror and overall bad news.

Why are all of you watching and supporting that channel? You should be ashamed.

Ah, all the little Clinton haters. My oh my. The GOP spent several years accomplishing absolutely NOTHING because all they could do was attack our President over getting a blow job and lying to save his marriage, something every single one of those hypocrites and every one of YOU hypocrites would also have done.

What was accomplished by the GOP, by doing this? They made a global laughing stock of the American Presidency, which historically had always been protected from such scandal. John F. Kennedy, for example, was repeatedly cheating on his wife while in office and no one said a word. It was far more important to maintain the dignity of the office.

Today, our Republican dominated Congress has an approval rating of 24%. Abysmal. Absolutely abysmal. The Do-Nothing Congress, it's called. Stand up and take a bow now, all you traitorous hypocrites who have helped to drag Americas name and Presidency through the mud.

Good job.

FOX made Youtube pull the video so the link in the article no longer works. Too bad, you really need to see and hear it to appreciate it. Clinton really handed back Wallace's dumb ass on a platter.

Line 'em up, Bill. Offer interviews / schooling to Hannity, O' Reilly, all of 'em. They'll wet themselves just like Wallace. Then start work on the radio- drug-addled Rush would go apoplectic, maybe bad trip him out for good.

I was not thrilled by what Clinton accomplished and most so what he didn't accomplished during his two terms. But at least he knows how to fight and defend his views. Democrats -- ignore what the right-wing Fox Channel has to say and follow Clinton's and Jack Murtha's lead. Start fighting back hard.

Mike

Of course the Republicans have to spin Clinton's effective, reasoned defense of his record into "throwing a tantrum." What else can they do? They've botched Afghanistan, bungled Iraq, haven't done a single thing to protect our chemical and nuclear plants from attack, heck, not only can't they figure out how to land troops and keep order in Iraq, they can't even figure out how to land troops and keep order in New Orleans!

I mean - if you can't find it with both hands, a road map, and a flashlight, all you've *got* is spin. I'm surprised by now any of them can walk without falling over.

Katherine

Perhaps fox should have let Brit handle (try to handle) Bill at least he wouldn`t be running around like a scolded puppy asking "did I do good boss, ? huh? huh? , did I do good ? " Bill Clinton is a genius and statesman, all you people who want to tear the toothpick from his eye before you get the log off your heads are fools.
All you right wing conservative european immigrants, who came across more water than any Mexican immigrant did ,are about to get a lesson.
George Bush has cost us credibility all over this world in his quest to avenge daddy. It is a shame and a travesty how much credibility we have lost under this administration. We got us a cocky redneck in the office and rich, poor, black , white , brown red, yellow,, male or female, gay or straight, we all can spot vanity, ego and pride, a mile away.

I can't believe the mindless stupidity is this statement in one of these responses:
"Bill Clinton is responsible for 9-11" What an audacious display of ignorance! The facts are that under the Bush administration bin Laden had the freedom to carry out this dastardly attack (9-11) and then get away Scott-free while Bush diverts his attention to Iraq. Then, Bush creates a terrorist training camp in Iraq and a world-wide recruitment campaign for Al Qaeda.
Clinton's response to Fox was not only justified but catagorically true.

It's amazing that all the Republican one-notes who keep talking about Clinton "cutting and running" in Somalia never say one word about their darling, Ronald Reagan, cutting and running in Beirut.

241 MARINES killed in their barracks BY HEZBOLLAH (remember them?) and we were out of town on the next boat.

In the Arab world, strength is everything. THAT showed the Arabs the U.S. was a paper tiger, and laid the groundwork for ALL the attacks on the West that followed.

George Bush was on a downward spiral towards one of the most undistinguished presidencies ever before 9/11. 42% of his time was spent on vacation, including the 5 weeks in August he couldn't be bothered with "bin Laden to Strike in America" NSA briefing.

ANYONE would have risen to the occassion, but 9/11 MADE Bush. It gave him a chance to swagger, and be brave with other people's lives. Meanwhile, he looked comatose fror 12 minutes as he continued reading "my pet goat."

He will be best remembered for his attacks on the U.S. constitution, 2x as many signing statements as all previous presidents, and doubling the national debt while giving trillions in tax cuts to the rich.

And if the Dems win the house, his last 2 years in the White House will be a taste of history's reflections on his presidency.

Bush was completely AWOL on national security and terror threats between his inauguration and 9-12-01. The middle-east was someplace where genie's pop out out bottles and carpets fly as far as he was concerned.

The "Path to 9/11" showed very little about Bush's involvement to get bin Laden. The movie accurately filmed his "absence." Bush's motto on bin Laden is: You won't fail if you never try.

Finally, Clinton spoke out against the lies. He was brilliant. Bush Republicans knew all about the dangers of bin Laden and did nothing then and even less now.

...I fell out of my chair, laughing, when I watched this. To have Clinton telling Chris Wallace to tell the truth?! (all because Wallace's 'story' doesn't fit with his own.) It's almost as bad as if Clinton were teaching a marriage fidelity course.
The only group of people this will appeal to is the same group that cheers along with Gore and Dean when they shriek into the mic at a rally, and afterward talk about how intelligent they are.
Clinton lost his cool, got red in the face, and railroaded a reporter. Yeah, he is smart. Everyone's going to believe him now, he got "passionate" about this. The last time I saw him loose his cool, (just like this), he was lying to his wife, daughter, and the U.S. people.

I want the Clinton's back in the Whitehouse. I just love the Democrats giving suckers out for appeasements instead of bullets

Zacarias Moussaoui was arrested on August 16, 2001, for trying to learn how to fly a 747 at a Northwest Airlines training center. He was in federal custody on September 11, 2001.

A muslim exchange student trying to learn how to fly a 747......HELLO!!!!....

History will record that 9-11 happen on George Bush's watch. The 20th hijacker was in federal custody for almost a month, and the Bush Administration did nothing to tighten airport security. History will record that 19 men passed airport security sceenings and boarded airplanes that day carrying knives.

History will also record that the Bush Administration tried desparately to pin the blame on Clinton. History will ultimately record that it was the incompetance and inexperience of the Bush Administration that allowed 9-11 to happen.

OK, so off the topic a bit but I keep seeing it come up...

Clinton has got to be one of the best President's of the century. Balanced budget, economic growth, yadda yadda yadda..

I challenge any Bush supporter to handle their household finances the way the current administration is handling the economy.

I defy you to spend 16% more than you make EVERY YEAR for the next 8 years. Oh yeah, you also need to decrease your annual income and keep your current standard of living.

I do not know a single "Republican" that supports Bush...notice I say Republican and not conservative.

A true republican knows a sound fiscal policy when they see one. This president trashed a balanced budget and eliminated a cash surplus.

Someone tell me why we haven't impeached this guy?

"One of the hardest things I do everyday is trying to link Iraq to the war on terror."

That is my favorite Bushism thus far!!!

Are we better off today than we were 6 years ago? Only the most blind republican idiot would say we are.

I remember when Clinton moved into the White House he had to have a lot of extra book shelves built because there weren't enough to hold his personal library. Recently I saw GW speaking from the White House while standing in front of rows of empty bookshelves.

Some people enjoy pointing out domestic infidelity while ignoring the continuing activities that are creating more "terrorists" than the world has ever seen. Over the last 6 years we have created a legacy that our country will have to endure for the next 40 years, while simultaneously destroying almost a century of goodwill among other nations, just as we come to a time when we will be needing it the most.

Nice job, voters.

...got a kick this AM listening to Chris Wallace talk about how Bubba "just lost it"...talk about clueless, the dude was leveled....esp liked the "smirk" remark and the way Wallace's head kept moving further and further back off his neck!! ha!...the boy doesn't have the cajones of the father, must be his mommy's son! lol

your whole culture of left v right is ludicrious. divide and conquer is the oldest strategy in the book. you can't win if you play the game, the only winner is the house. get out of the casino and love this gift of life.

on that note, head > war dead any day

Here's the real story for Fox News. Your tactics won't work this time. The American public is waking up to your partisanship and realizing that it's time to move George Bush and the Republicans out of power.

You guys do know that any comment made in a public forum could be used to justify your support/protest against the War, right?

Should a Draft happen, your posts supporting Bush's War can and will be used to prevent you from seeking most kinds of deferments.

Everybody can google and the NSA googles best.

I watched the interview with mounting incredulity, beholding a "meltdown" even nuttier than Howard Dean's when he emitted the infamous "scream." All I could think was how absolutely crazy the Democrats (of which I used to be one) have become in recent years. Truly scary. I thought it was the public breakdown of a borderline-rational looney. And then I read Frank James hardly able to contain his excitement: "Nobody does it better than Clinton!" Well that's what Monica thought, so maybe it's true. But to me it was just another proof that today's Liberals, once a noble race, have morphed into strange critters indeed.

See Clinton and you realize what the Dems lack right now - the ability to fight back. This is what allowed not just incompetent - but transparently incompetent idiots like W win - not once but twice!!

Forget the political stupidity - the GOP strategy on Iraq was supposed to be an economic move. Sure, it turns out the business impact of that was as well managed as W's all previous businesses.

One just hopes the damage to the security and standing of the country will atleast stay at this level till this flaming idiot finishes his 2nd term. Even now, the dems will win not coz of themselves but coz of W and his cronies.

Bill Lost it. I used to like the man, but now I see what type of a "man" he really is. I was saddened and thought it quite pathetic.

Frank,

You just print this article to generate controversary.

"Nobody Tried harder to get bin LAden" "Nobody came closer to killing him"

Sad but true isnt it. Even with his close to zero effort that you guys claim he put in, W made sure it was still the better effort.

Coz W was dreaming of Saddam and oil and forgot the bearded man in the process.

Quite frankly I'm older than all of you. I've lived through the administration of twelve presidents. I remember Hitler and Stalin as real living human beings. The world has not seen evil equivalent to them until the George W. Bush administration came to power.

Those of you who try to quoate the Clarke book to disparage the Clinton administration obviously have not read the book, but only heard the excerpts as quoted on Fox News, the most disgraceful far right wing operative posing as a a news operation, existing only because right wing Republicans de-regulated our airwaves and gave them away to anti-American right wingers.

What I think is interesting is how such circumstances which face our nation have come about. It's easy to blame a single person for doing or not doing something. I admit to this fault all the time. But as much as any one president does or does not do, what of the congress that is supposed to be part of the check and balance system? Why are they escaping our criticism of why we're at where we're at?

President Bush keeps claiming executive powers as declared under wartime conditions, but will not go as far as asking congress to actually declare war. If anyone tries to trump the idealistic war card, they would do well to consider that when allowing the president the horrific leeway he's been given under the premise of wartime powers.

As for the name-calling game between both parties, why not ask the better questions. Terrorism, while a horrific act that has immediate shock vaule, is so dangerous as to allow the President to take unprecidented powers upon himself in an idealistic war, imagine what we could have done if the congress had alloted the hundreds of billions of dollars towards the "war on drugs", an equally idealistic war and one that has left our country trying to shoulder enourmous social and medical weight while going virtually unnoticed these days. Why are we not being just as vigilant if not more so on a war that is constantly taking place in our streets and homes? How is it that we are letting dozens of countries throughout Africa suffer catastrophic deaths at the hands of militant dictators yet do nothing but watch it happen yet are parading in Iraq and claiming humanitarian reasons?

Let us not forget that the United States illegally invaded Iraq not to establish a post where we could declare war on terror, but to eliminate weapons of mass destruction and presumably to topple a leader who was brutally oppressive. With no weapons of mass destruction to be shown and Saddam taken into custody, how is it that we ended up altering our reasons for being there? If we as a people are as dedicated to the cause for our freedom so much that we allow our elected officials to act without conscience or descretion, why are we not just as vigilant at invading other countries for the cause of democracy and to protect our freedom. This is why we let our own atrocities continue, right? To protect our somehow threatened freedom?

"But nobody does it better than Clinton. In a matter of minutes he put across the Democratic talking points more effectively than the host of Democrats in Congress have managed to do."

EXACTLY! Yes Clinton kicked butt in this interview, however, he isn't going to be running for President. For months Democrats have tried to make various points and failed miserably. A lot of moderates aren't buying it. They expect a LEADER like Clinton came off in this interview and no Presidential hopeful Democrat is showing that. That's why a lot of people will not vote Democrat in '08 even though they'd like to see a change in the status quo. UNLESS the Dems get someone that is clear and strong on both domestic issues and foreign and isn't just trying to suck up, pander to popular opinion, and take a bleeding heart liberal approach to everything, we will not see a Democrat in office in '08.

The Dems need a leader. This country would probably vote for a Clinton, but they won't vote for Hillary.

I find it pathetic that the Dems have had their thumb up their @#% when it should be easy to establish Bush's presidency as a total farce, and now that President Clinton has spoke up they are getting a newfound sense of gravitas.

If they can't find it on their own without a former President finding it for them... Not only will they not win, but they don't deserve to win. And that is especially depressing knowing that we'd be stuck with another Republican.

Granted, Bill Clinton may be good for Dems, but that does not help the country. I feel that this is just an attempt to diver the peoples attention away from the larger issues. With every one discussing if what he said was good or true, Congress and Bush are getting away with pulling a fast one on the American people, How much is the welcome center costing? Fact, there is no vailid reason for The U.S to be in Iraq, fact; Bush as well as Clinton failed to kill Osama Bin Laden. The U.S should stop putting its nose where it does not belong, all Americans are responsible for 9/11 and its after math. If America didn't view its self as the supreme ruler of the world, may be we wouldn't be viewed as a war machine, seeking to spread democracy as Hitler sought to spread Communisim.

I was never partisan, never considered myself a Democrat. I always prided myself on being unbiased and voting for the best candidate. That's all changed... unfortunately, I'm not stupid enough to fall for the Republican tactics of fear, misdirection, deception, and complete and utter incompetence.

What happened to the GOP? They've been railroaded by a bunch of common liars and thieves who think we're all so easily controlled and too stupid to see through their parlor room games.

Unfortunately, they've been right the past two elections. We HAVE been too stupid to see through them. And, how hilariously sad to see these posts from right-wingers so proud of themselves that "their team" won the last few elections, and too stupid to see they helped elect a crack team of imbeciles, who have literally and single-handedly deteriorated the US standing and influence in the world. A beacon of light? No more, we're now one of the most feared countries in the world.

We know what Bush & Co have done wrong. So, please tell me, truthfully, what have they done right??? What prediction have they made that's turned out to be accurate? What path have they chosen that's actually worked out as they said it would? I can't believe Republicans still support them, as they're proven wrong on a daily basis, either by leaked reports from their own staff or daily carnage in the streets of Iraq.

Bravoo for BJC. Finally there's a voice in the DMC that is resounding and passionate about the issues critical to this country. The Wallace interview should be a battle cry to the cripled demos. and wake them up from the "rope-a-dope" politics that Rove has been inflicting on them.

And as one getleman just put it: If it wern't for the 25th amendment, BJC would be our next president. Wake up demos, BJC has just defined leadership: knowedge of the issues deliverd with passion and articulation.

Regardless why people support Bush and his war on the middle class, when it comes to articulating, he doesn't belong in the same room as Bill Clinton. Bush is the worse president we've ever had, as is this republican congress. Clinton lies about a sexual encounter and we impeach him. Bush lies about reasons to invade another country and it is okay. Clinton made everyone livs better by bringing jobs to the poor, while Bush only makes the rich richer at the expense of the middle class. He has detroyed medicare and promises to destroy social security. I'll take Clinton over Bush any day.

Bill Clinton is as irrelavent as Osama Bin Laden. Both are yesterdays news. You folks should wake up, its not the '90s anymore. Your politicians say nothing except display their hatred for our president Bush.

Clintons display of childish anger reflects his embarassment for having done nothing of any value for his country or the world in 8 years as president and this fact is becoming more evident every day. His legacy is deflated.

Clinton should be getting out of prison right about now instead of being treated as a prince by his loving and adoring media.

So tell me this: If GW Bush is and has always been so tough on terror, why didn't the "War on Terror" start until AFTER 9/11? Why didn't we invade Afghanistan on 9/10 (or in 1999, for that matter)?

It seems to me that both the Clinton and the GW Bush Administrations underestimated what unprecedented evil al Qaeda was capable of until it was demonstrated with absolute clarity on 9/11.

"Slick Willie" was a better President by far than
"Sleazy Dublya" Take that you Depublicans!

Terry & the rest of the ignoramus:

You guy either are stupid enough not to know the facts or pretend you do not.

Bush Sr. after he lost the lection sent troops to Somalia without consulting the elected person (Clinton). The fiasco that followed was because of Bush Sr's stupidity. Of course, the republican congress also contributed to it.

The whole republican establishment and the Washington media were saying that Clinton's bombing of Osama's hideout was "wag the Dog." Also, the CIA and the FBI would not certify Osama was behind Cole incident. So, the military did not cooperate to send in strike forces in Afghanistan.

It would help if you guys bother to read Richard Clark's book and learn facts before you open your traps.

Great article. It was heartening to watch Clinton in action. I'm tired of the neo cons conning the public on their right wing Fox News.

Bush has trouble speaking in sentences. Clinton can debate and win the debate. Love to see him take on George W.

What are you....13?

Posted by: JD | Sep 25, 2006 3:08:13 PM

Now there's a classic response from a born-again nouvu-Republican. Touched a nerve there JD?

Actually I think a 13 year old child, with his/her head unfilled by the likes of Limbaugh and O'Reilly, would have a more mature and intelligent response than you. Afterall, it was a child who said that The Emperor Had No Clothes.

It's taken five years for the wingnuts to put together their talking points on how Clinton is responsible for everything. If Clinton didn't exist, Rove would have invented him. I am sure Rove, Limbaugh, etc. are praying that Hillary runs.

True, Osama has been around a long time now. Back all the way to the First King George's reign. Really though, how can anyone in their right mind blame Clinton for 9/11? Givemeabreak!
Take a real close look at the facts around 9/11 and the aftermath, then start putting together the strange pieces. You might see something there you haven't seen before. This was a highly sophisticated attack, it took some very experienced, and powerful individuals to carry it off.

I've never seen a mass case of the vapors like I've seen and heard from Clinton-haters. For those who have made a living distracting from the issue, again they try to distract from the real facts of the issue and condescedingly chastise the president. Arrogance and hubris are coverups for shallow ideas and programs, and judging by the extent of the whining by Clinton-haters, their spin machine is running 24 hours a day since Clinton made Chris Wallace look like a 7th Grade journalism student.

Bush turn me 180 degree around, from a pure republican to die hard democrat, i do any thing to make him pay for all the ugly things that he did, clinton please come back as our next leader...and for those who still beleive in Bush...are you all blind????

I've read through most of the other comments and noticed something. The people who dislike Bill Clinton's performance dicuss him at length. But they never mention our current President or his performance. So if you're irritated by Clinton's rhetoric, gather up your kids and sign them up for the war in Iraq. If you feel strongly about your convictions, you won't mind doing this.

One thing all you conservatives seem to ignore. GWB has not caught or killed Bin Laden in the 5 yrs since 9/11. Even if it took 3 yrs to plan under Clinton, GWB has had almost 2x that to get Bin Laden and has failed to do so? How come you don't ask WHY of him? Oh you can't because your foot is in your mouth!

GO SLICK WILLIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Capturing Bin Laden (or preventing 9/11) does not depend on who is president. It's more a matter of luck and hard/dangerous work by the CIA/FBI and other grunts.

Saying "Bin Laden was captured during X's presidency so X is great" is just stupid, like professional wrestling.

There sure is a lot of talk about clinton's "adultery". Funny to think that the country was running so smoothly that all people had to worry about was whether the president was getting some on the side. I remember having a great paying job and excellent health insurance right out of college because of Clinton. I remember gas being $1 something a gallon.

Now I see people struggling just to get by from month to month. Our economy is horriffic, good jobs have been replaced by minimum wage jobs or shipped off overseas. People live in fear and ignorance and just accept what is put in front of them (probably because they are too busy trying to figure out how they are going to eat tomorrow to pay attention). People take their ignorant prejudices and vote on how they think OTHER people should live.

The funniest thing to me is that the GOP has been caught in lies, theivery and adultery over and over again yet all we hear about is Clinton who is a GENIUS (literally IQ of 180 or something) and was a GREAT leader! Guess that just goes to show how great he was, even after all this time he is most memorable.

How is it that Clinton is responsible for the World Trade Center bombing in 1993 (when he had been in office only a few weeks), but Bush is not responsible for 9/11, when he had been in office for 8 months?
More importantly, why is Clinton's failure to get Bin Laden prior to 9/11 such an issue, when Bush's failure to get him FIVE YEARS after the worst terrorist attack on our country seems so much more important?
If Bush is your hero, recall that he said of Bin Laden AFTER 9/11, "I'm just not that concerned about him." Attacking Clinton after Bush said that shows you're just not thinking before you write.

Look at the post from the right wingnuts, just crying in their beer because Clinton accomplished so much as compared to Little Georgie.

No Dem congress to blame, just the nutty neo cons.

Chris, George Tenet was a Clinton holdover. I was not happy that Bush kept Tenet. Tenet was a bad CIA director.

More importantly, though, I love how the Lefties are beating up on Chris Wallace. When Chris Wallace worked for NBC and ABC he was a liberal hero. His dad is the icon of the liberal's journalist mold. But now that Chris Wallace works for Fox News, he is not somehow part of the vast right wing conspiracy.

But here are some facts to chew on Loony Leftists: George Stephanpoulos, Dem operative. Tim Russert, Dem operative. Chris Matthews, Dem operative. Brian Williams, liberal. Katie Couric, liberal. Charlie Gibson, liberal. Bob Schieffer, liberal. Tom Brokaw, liberal. Dan Blather, liberal. The late Peter Jennings, liberal.

Quite a few people have claimed that Clinton has over reacted to what what was just an "easy" question. I think the question pretty much accused Clinton of being responsible for the deaths of the three thousand who died on 911.This question came on the heels of that terribly innaccurate ABC movie that blames 911 on Clinton.
I imagine it is quite upsetting to be blamed for such a terrible tragedy after having worked so hard to prevent it. Especially after seeing the next President drop the ball you had been carrying. Good job Bill for standing up to such a bullying question..
Will~

The fact is, now, we are in a war that is not only breeding more hatred for the U.S. but solidifying the religious jihad in another region.

The war has turned into a civil war, that the US presence is holding together loosely before it escalates to a full all out war.

Based on the lessons of Darfur, the US won't leave - the gov't is estimating 6 to 7 years at best case scenario.

Clinton didn't get OBL when he had the chance - he regrets it and owned up to it. But GWB has been looking for the guy for 5 years now on 10/7.
And he's shifted his goal to Iraq, but clearly telling us in each speech that OBL Enemy #1. Well, then why aren't we doing it??? Why are we in Iraq. I don't know how the American people aren't seeing the mixed messages and demanding the answers.

I do miss Bill. I do miss the straight talking, honesty he gave the American people, even when he made a mistake.

And it makes me so frustrated to see people lash out just on party lines - educate yourself, read up and decided the truth for yourself.

After six+ years of failure, ineptitude, and an entire political culture based upon corruption, America is looking back at the salad years of the Clinton Boom.

Oh, how carefree those years were, when the problems were so insignificant we could care about the president getting a BJ, or congressmen floating checks. Compared to the White House steering billion dollar contracts to their friends, getting America involved in war crimes, torture, secret prisons, outright ignoring the constitutional rights of US Citizens, etc...

When Nixonites come out and say BushCo is far more corrupt than the Nixon WH... that's saying something.

BTW... why are the Republicans taking about Osama? Haven't they been failing, every single day since 9/11, to capture Osama... "dead or alive"?

What impresses me about Clinton, Bush misses dearly. But what impresses me about Bush, Clinton doesn't have.

In 2008, or whenever Hillary runs, who is the greater liability? Is it that she is Hillary Clinton, or that she is married to Bill?

I guess if the Bush's can put two men in the White House, why can't the Clintons?

Jeff (3:20) and others...why don't you actually read Richard Clarke's book...Clinton may not have formulated an all out plan to get bin Laden (not the highest priority at the time) but spent an increasing amount of effort trying to get him as more information about al-Queda's menace came into light.

Who cares whether Clinton or Wallace "won" the interview? Neither of them is running for office... or did we forget this? The point of the article seemed to me to be that if Clinton keeps flapping his yap, Democrats will win. But I believe history tells a different story: The only people who win when Clinton rants against conservatives are Clinton and Republican candidates not running against Clinton. Don't believe me? Look at 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2004. Clinton was president during the Republican "takeover" of Congress in 1994, and never got the majority back. He stumped for Gore in 2000 and spoke at the DNC for Kerry in 2004, but what happened? His side lost. Again. And again. And again. The man has never had coat tails and he never will, because the only thing that has ever mattered (politically) to Bill Clinton is Bill Clinton.

jack has the worst points, and just sounds like any other person who just constantly uses the same old lines that we all know are there but chooses to ignore the other facts that exist, oh well, figures

Posted by: jackisanidiot | Sep 25, 2006 9:54:22 PM

Boy I must be getting on somebody's nerves. Figures.

BTW,

Anyone who thinks Clinton was responsible for the "peace and prosperity" of the 1990s and believes that the al Qaeda problem is all Bush's fault should also be willing to give Reagan credit for the demise of the Soviet Union and the roaring economy of the 1980s, be willing to blame FDR for WWII, and be willing to blame Abraham Lincoln for the Civil War. Sometimes things happen that no president can control, whether good or bad. A presidency is not insular nor should a president be given all the credit or all the blame for things that happen on his watch. If that were the case, then I suppose we should fire a police chief if someone commits a crime? If prosperity in advance of an unraveling global peace and global malaise is a measure of a great president, then Calvin Coolidge was the greatest we have ever had.

clinton is one our best presidents ever. bush is a joke as president. bush needs to be thrown out of office. he is getting our young men killed over his stupid crap he did. there were no weapons of mass distruction at all get a clue bush cause you sure dont have any sense at all . put clinton back in office he will take of a problem that bush cant handle.

Clinton's outburst was excellent political theater, and I wish more of our politicians had the courage to 'let it rip'... even if they are in the wrong about an issue.

I want to see and hear more politicians become bombastic, and do away forever, the plywood performances delivered up by the likes of John Kerry and other underwhelming political personalities.

Clinton's outburt reminded me of the time when Virginia Congressional representative, John Randolph was the best in form and class from 1800 to 1805. One day, Congressman Philemon Beecher of Ohio tried to cut Randolph off by recourse to a parliamentary device. Randolph rose to the challenge in a way that's long gone from Congress as we know it today.

"Mr. Speaker," Randolph said, "in the Netherlands a man of small capacity, with bits of wood and leather, will, in a few moments, construct a toy that, with the pressure of the finger and thumb, will cry 'Cuckoo! Cuckoo!'

"With less ingenuity, and with inferior materials, the people of Ohio made a toy that will, without much pressure, cry, 'Previous question, Mr. Speaker! Previous question, Mr. Speaker!'"

And, it also must be remembered in U.S. politics of yore, weapons were worn inside Capital Hill, and the occasional duel was called for. That's when American politicians were made of the real stuff. Frankly, I welcome more outbursts like Clinton's - not only from an ex-president, but from the Executive, the Legislative, and, the Judicial. Forget the sound bites and the talking points. Let's get back to real human rhetoric and heated discussion! I think we'll all feel better for it.

The amazing thing about the Bush/Rove/Cheney team is how quickly they get people to forget things that they actually know.

Do you remember the blowup in Somalia? Do you remember the Republicans howling about "Wag the Dog?" -- about how Clinton was trying to draw attention off of the really important matters of the day (whether he got a bj in the Oval Office) onto inconsequential nonsense half a world away? It wasn't that Clinton was distracted from hunting down Al-Qaeda: it was that the Republicans wanted America distracted from it.

And I love the way that Rove and bunch have turned the tables on military experience, so that decorated veterans somehow become less credible than a hot-dog flyboy who spent his Vietnam years protecting the skies of Texas from the Viet Cong Air Force -- until, for some reason, his health wouldn't take it... Musta been somthin' he et.

The Republicans ask what the Democrats' plan is for Iraq -- and if they can't come up with something substantially different, they say the Dems have no ideas, and if they do come up with something different, they exaggerate it into something no one is for ("Cut and Run"). It's like lending your car to your drunk cousin who puts it into the ditch. Then he asks you if you have a different plan than his for what to do next. No, you, too, know that you have to get the car out of the ditch. BUT YOU WOULDN'T HAVE PUT IT THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!

Bill Clinton is as irrelavent as Osama Bin Laden. Both are yesterdays news.

Posted by: Bill | Sep 26, 2006 6:09:23 AM

OBL is irrelavent? The mastermind of the attack on U.S. soil that kill 3000+ U.S. citizens, irrelavent? You want to explain that to the family of the dead, sir?

Are you proclaiming a statue of limitation on criminal terrorist acts against this country sir?

Let's see:

1) 22.5 million jobs created (the most ever)
2) The Dow goes from 3800 to 11700! The Nasdaq is even more impressive.
3) Crime goes down EVERY YEAR of his term
4) The deficit goes from $290B to a $160B surplus
5) Successful military efforts in Bosnia & Kosovo
6) America respected & admired by all the world
7) Competence in the domestic sphere (no Katrinas!)
8) No arrests of American citizens as "enemy combatants", denying Americans their right to a lawyer and to face their accuser
9) No Abu Ghraibs, Hadithas or My Lais
10) No secret prisons in Eastern Europe

I could go on...

In the absence of accomplishments over the last 6 years, the Republicans have decided to re-write history. Stalin did it better...
Listen carefully - 9/11 HAPPENED ON YOUR WATCH, not Bill Clinton's. The moronic war over nothing in Iraq happened on YOUR WATCH, not Bill Clinton's. Torture and incompetence happened on YOUR WATCH.

Nothing can change that - not even an ABC docudrama...

Want to know what the Clinton administration did and didn't do?

Why not listen to this audio interview with the man who held the nuclear codes for President Clinton?

Lt. Col. Buzz Patterson

http://regimeofterror.com/archives/2006/08/interview_with_lt_col_buzz_pat/

Fact: The Bush Administration did nothing to prevent 9/11 from happening and they took office after the Cole had been bombed and did nothing in response. How is Clinton to blame for those failures?

freddy sax,
do you honestly believe what you wrote there?

all the world loved us?
why did we get attacked in 93, 98, 2000? 95?

bosnia and kosovo were successful? at what? they are still going

no americans "arrested" as terrorists? what "americans" are being arrested now?
glad that you have such great compassion for the terrorists who made it inside our country, too bad you couldn't be there for atta and the others to "protect" them from dying in the 9-11 pot

no secret prisons and abu ghraibs?
awwww...aren't you sweet for being so concerned about those poor poor terrorists and those iraqis getting underwear on their head.

thank God we got people like you so concerned about the "rights" and comfort of terrorists. i wouldnt sleep at night otherwise

Naturally, You Tube has had to remove the Clinton video at the demand of Fox - and it's not to be found on the Fox site. Here's where you can send the Fox chickens**ts a little note:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,77538,00.html

Let's look at the real story of 1990s.
Stock market begins crash in spring of 2000, before Bush becomes president.
Energy prices first skyrocket in spring of 2000 to gas surpassing $2 a gallong for first time, long before Bush becomes president.
U.S. runs from Haiti as Haitians throw bottles and rocks and U.S. military ship.
U.S. bombs Chinese embassy.
GOP takes over Congress, forces Bush to balance the budget.
GOP takes over Congress, forces Clinton to sign welfare reform.
Clinton sells U.S. nuclear and missile technology to CHina in exchange for campaign donations.
Clinton sells White House in exchange for campaign donations.
Clinton pardons hardened criminals and one of the most wanted men in the world in exchange for campaign dollars and a roll in the hay with said wanted man's wife.
Clinton steals nearly 1,000 FBI files on Republicans.
Clintons screw old people in Whitewater and Castel Grande land deals.
Clinton never responds to one terrorist attack on U.S.
Clinton talks to congressman on the phone to get his vote to send U.S. men and women into harm's the same time Monica services him from under the desk.
Clinton harrasses and gropes women such as Kathleen Willy and many others.

That is the real Clinton record.

Comparing Clinton and Bush in catching Osama is like apples and oranges.
Clinton was doing covert operations from half a world away. On his watch he stopped a New Year’s Eve bombing attempt in Times Square. Most plots are actually stopped fairly close to execution date as was the last plot that was stopped in England.
We know that Bush ignored the warning and did not take security seriously. He had no global or security agenda until after 9/11. 9/11 woke him up.
But in spite of having a full out invasion of Afghanistan, having tens of thousands of troops there and help of hundreds of thousands of Afghani fighters and control of the government through self appointed officials, in spite of all this he failed to capture or kill Bin Laden. Comparing all of these advantages to what Clinton had to work with is not even a comparison. It is an embarrassment.
However it does not stop there. Knowing that Bin Laden is the number one priority and not having caught them Bush completely took his mind off Bin Laden as he said in an interview:"I really don't think about Bin Laden". Rather than keeping the pressure on Bin Laden, he moved the war to Iraq, allowing the Taliban and Al Quida training grounds in Pakistan to flourish and allowing them to then exact their deadly mission on innocent Afghanis, Iraqis and our troops and workers in ME.
Thus Bush's rhetoric does not even come close to his failures or to those of Clinton. Many people in America see this, but those who have emotionally committed themselves to this administration on moral or religious grounds unfortunately are in denial and will probably stay that way similarly to those who deny the Holocaust to this day in spite of all the evidence.

Rice's Lies exposed:

he result was a strategy paper that he had presented to Berger and the other national security "principals" on Dec. 20. But Berger and the principals decided to shelve the plan and let the next Administration take it up. With less than a month left in office, they did not think it appropriate to launch a major initiative against Osama bin Laden. "We would be handing [the Bush Administration] a war when they took office on Jan. 20," says a former senior Clinton aide. "That wasn't going to happen." Now it was up to Rice's team to consider what Clarke had put together.

Berger had left the room by the time Clarke, using a Powerpoint presentation, outlined his thinking to Rice. A senior Bush Administration official denies being handed a formal plan to take the offensive against al-Qaeda, and says Clarke's materials merely dealt with whether the new Administration should take "a more active approach" to the terrorist group. (Rice declined to comment, but through a spokeswoman said she recalled no briefing at which Berger was present.) Other senior officials from both the Clinton and Bush administrations, however, say that Clarke had a set of proposals to "roll back" al-Qaeda. In fact, the heading on Slide 14 of the Powerpoint presentation reads, "Response to al Qaeda: Roll back."

Janet,

Yeah, and Ashcroft cut $50 mil. from the anti-terrorist FBI unit on
9/10/2001

One of America's great newspaper's has posted an Op-Ed that's the ultimate rebuttal to Frank James' boot-licking post. The LA Times gave Andrew Klavan space to say, "The ex-president's tirade on Fox News reveals a politician insisting on a legacy he doesn't deserve."

I encourage everyone to read it: http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-klavan26sep26,0,6574681.story?coll=la-home-commentary

I can see now why the Tribune Company wants to lay more people off at the LA Times. They don't play nice, now do they?

What I thought was noteworthy was the follow up by Fox after the interview. They tried to discredit Clinton by talking about a part of Clarke's book but seem to have intentionally missed the point. Clarke tazlked about how Clinton had gone after Bin Laden but backed off when the right wing cried "wag the dog." Clarke has been pretty clear that Clinton worked hard and Bush just wnated to invade Iraq. He even talked about Clinton calling him in the middle of the night to discuss an obscure paper on the terrorist threat. The only part of Clarkes book they referenced was Clinton backing off part and failed to mention the right wing impetus for this. When talking about the two administrations they said that Bush failed to act in his "brief" time before 9-11. When talking about the first world trade center bombing in 1993 they did not use the adjective "brief" in regard to Clinton. Clinton had been in office a few days, Bush 8 months. I thought the spin was most obvious in the follow up. Many people still insist that Fox is the only fair news on TV. I worry about this country. If less than two weeks is not a brief time how is 8 months? I have a specific recollection of Rush Limbaugh attacking Clinton for the bombing attacks saying Clinton was just trying to distract from Monica. It was a good thing we had the right to keep our attention on what was truly important back during the impeachmment days lest we might have been distracted by Bin Laden. It is good to know they are still on the job.

John D you know I like to take the other side in the debates so here we go.
Bill Clinton Record on Terrorism
1-Stopped cold the planned attack to blow uo Boston airport
2-Stopped cold the planned attack to blow up Lincoln and Holland tunnels
3-Stopped a plan to blow up GW bridge
4- Stopped the attack on the U.S Embassy in Albania
5- Brought perpetrators of the first World Tade Center to justice
6- Named the Hart Rudman commission
7-Tripled the budget for FBI and CIA FUNDING FOR COUNTERTERTERRORISM
8-Dtected and destoryed cells of Al-Qaeda in over 20 countries
9- an unlike Republicans never blamed Bush's father for the World Trade Center even since he was only in office for 38 days

John I have a heck of a lot more you know I do Research for our debates its fun to debate you.

What a great interview! Clinton gave a lesson in journalism and ethics to Mike Wallace's son (Mike, where did you go wrong with this hack).

It's good to see Bill with the fire in his belly. Truly compelling, eloquent, and presidential. We miss ye, William J! Can he run for VP?

Wallace vs Clinton = Smarm vs Smarm.

Why does anybody care?

I think you are all mostly off base. Man nowadays it seem people cannot intellectually discuss politics without hate or an extreme view. How about some middle ground?

Truth be told both democrats and republicans are share guilt in the current state of our country. It is simply naïve and uneducated to assume otherwise. Both answer to corporations at the end of the day. Wake up.. Bush this Clinton that.. thats not getting us anywhere.

I'm largely a Clinton fan, but I don't remember his presidency without some rough points in it -- he was no saint, to say the least.

Clinton was right, I think, to rip Mr. Wallace a brand, spankin' new one. He's put up with the snideness of the press ever since they had a feeding frenzy over him and Monica Lewinsky (and where was the right-wing at that time, complaining about bias in the press?) and it's about time he stopped just putting up with it.

The manner in which Wallace's question was asked aside, I think the question itself was a fair one to ask, and I think that Clinton answered it accurately. Up to the point where UBL attacked our embassies in Africa, although we knew he was a particularly nasty little muthah, he hadn't done anything that we could prosecute him for. His actions were against other nations. That was why Clinton begged the Sudanese to send UBL to Saudi Arabia in 1996 -- we couldn't have held him legally for anything at that point. Once there was an attack on our soil with the embassy bombings, he did attempt to catch or kill Bin Laden -- unsuccessfully. To that end, he's no more liable and no less liable than Bush is.

Clinton was right in saying that the Republicans blocked his attempts at fighting terrorism, in two ways. First, they did accuse him of being overly concerned about the terrorists and withheld support to him on that front. Second -- and here I think the Republicans were absolutely on-the-money -- they fought tooth and nail against Clinton's Omnibus Counterterrorism Act of 1995, and for good reason. The bill, even more intrusive on Constitutional rights than what we're seeing from Bush currently, was denounced as hugely invasive by the Republican Congress and ultimately carved apart before a much-more-spineless version was approved and signed. Please note I'm much less complaining about the Republicans having opposed that bill in 1995 than I am complaining they're not opposing Bush enough now.

Clinton was also correct that he did warn the Bush administration that they'd need to go after Al Quaeda and Bin Laden, although I'm not sure his claim to have left behind any kind of detailed plan is correct. Rice is now saying that no such plan was left by him. Ultimately, Clinton DID try and failed to catch Bin Laden (how hard he tried is up for debate); Bush tried and failed to catch Bin Laden post 9/11. Whether or not more effort would have been successful between the time UBL attacked our embassies and the 9/11 attacks is also debatable.

So Bill, I'm sure we'll all just dyin' to know, if W&Condi & company did so much, so aggresively, "just as much as Bill Clinton did", how did the 9/11 attacks come to pass?

You can take credit, but you must also be able to shoulder the blame. You can't have it both ways.

I always love to see the right wing come out of the war closet! Has anyone really looked at the military records of the neo-cons and the talking heads that scream about liberal democrats.Well my friends I think in my research the democrats have served alot more than the rush limbaughs of the world. Oh we have the medals to prove it!
King George is a liar and a bumb and a stupid bumb at that!Anyone who needs ann coulter on their side is sinking fast. I only need to watch the news and when the kings mout is moving I know its another lie. the same can be said for condie too!

Hoorah for Bill! It's about time the ridiculous insinuations and accusations the Republicans are spewing got responded to. Job well done!

As much as the whining wingnuts would like to re-write history,no matter how much you foam from the mouth,no matter what goofball web sites you find your false info from, the fact is BILL CLINTON left office with a 65 % approval rating.

That means the only people that didn't support him were you nut cases, that blog here. But then again, people like Bill still beleive Dick Nixon was a great Prez.

Let's take some bets on where Buffoon Bushie's ratings will be if he makes it two more years.

I'm thinking he'll be lucky to break 30 %.

I find it amazing that we're discussing Clinton, when our top 16 spy agencies leaked (on purpose to dis-credit neo nuts)the fact that the neo nut war in Iraq is breeding terrorsist.

And you have Bushie saying our spy agencies are lying!

Yeah,that Clinton was a bust!

If Iraq is the front line of the war on terrorism, as Bush claims, and the war on terrorism is going well, why do we see articles like the following:

http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=topNews&storyID=2006-09-25T184043Z_01_N25233764_RTRUKOC_0_US-IRAQ-USA-TROOPS.xml&archived=False

Great job, President Clinton!

I just don't know how many more times the American people will be fooled by the disinformation campaign run by Rove and neocons. The 'cry wolf' Rove and neocons pulled off their scare campaigns of American people in 2002 first and in 2004 second. Will they scare the public enough to get the needed votes this time again? Time will tell, but it is just amazing how many times the American people can be fooled by the exact same 'scare' tactics. The public feels bitter about Bush administration and rightwing republicans until just before every election, only to forget and vote for them again, and then go back to the bitter mood they were feeling all along. Oh well, there were also people under Stalin, Hitler, Moussolini, et. al.

I think you guys should fight it out - you know to prove your point. The right and the left should really have a good fist fight.

Tommy~
Because this current administration has denied the writ of habeus corpus to detainees, we actually don't know whether or not the people we're torturing are guilty, so stop calling them terrorists. Call them that when your side has actually gotten your act together enough to prove it~ or anything else for that matter. Civilization is based on being able to imagine someone else's position, so imagine if you were randomly scooped up (not off a battlefield, but often just on some tribal warlord's say-so) and turned in to a foreign power. Wouldn't you want to at least be able to make the case that you're innocent? Well, you wouldn't get to under Bush.

Other right wingers:
Name a Bush accomplishment, just one.
ANY accomplishment on any front.
The economy continues to grow at an anemic pace with real wages shrinking for almost everyone while both the annual income and overall wealth of the top few percentiles explode.
We haven't caught Osama.
We've destabilized Iraq, incited backlash that's destabilized the entire region and left us in no position to deal with Iran (which they know).
We're losing Afghanistan and don't have a clue what to do with Iraq.
We are at our lowest international standing since before 1941.
Environmental standards are in the toilet.
The national budget has gone from the largest surplus in history to the largest deficit in history.
Our legal system from the Constitution to international treaties has been rendered all but obsolete by one branch of government's flagrant disregard for any check on it's power and the cowardly unwillingness of the other branches to assert their own.
And, as witnessed by this thread, we Americans are at each others throats.
So again I ask~
name one great Bush accomplishment.

GEORGE W. BUSH:

You are a LOSER,and worse than that, you are a LIAR.

The sooner W.,and his Neo Con, Republican friends in Congress, who have inabled him to lie to us,are gone...........the better for this Country that I love so much.

Hopefuly there is a jail sell waiting for Dubya,Cheney,Rove, and the rest of the swiftboat liar squad in the future.
I would be more than happy to escort them to their prison cellblock, and then throw away the key.

Nov.7,2006........the Neo Con Republicans will find out what we think of their 6+ years of lockstepping, and lying with W..........

gotta read this!

Dale, nice glorification of what didn't happen in 1990s. The only terrorist attack thwarted was at the millenium change in 2000. Funny, though, that that attack was thwarted by a border crossing guard.

Let's look at real terror attacks thwarted by real people in the Bush administration:
1. Bombings of financial institutions in Newark and New York City in 2004.
2. Bombing the Sears Tower in 2006.
3. Bombing 10 planes from England to the U.S. in 2006 (and yes, lefties, U.S. intelligence worked with British intelligence and Pakistani intelligence to thwart that attack).
4. Terrorists like Padilla, Moussaui, Reid, Zarquawi, Sheik Mohammed and countless others arrested or killed since 9/11. Hundreds arrested. Thousands killed.

Those are the facts.

Go President Clinton. Someone's finally got the courage to show the right wingers how prejudiced they truly are. In my nearly 65 years, I have never seen a more incompetent and crooked administration than this current one. Anyone who does not grasp how much worse our standing in the world has become under this administration has not traveled outside the US. In the past, people from Europe and countries such as Australia had some misgivings about our government but genuinely loved American people. Now that we have elected these neo-cons and incompetent people, I have found our allies and friends abroad really questioning the goodness and the respect they have traditionally had for us. It will take decades to recover from what has occurred the past 5 years.

Hey Leftist Loons, here is an interview from The CBS Early Show yesterday with former CIA analyst Michael Scheuer. Seems like he pretty much calls Slick Willie a liar and one who didn't do anything to get bin Laden (and Scheuer is no Bush fan either):

Harry Smith: "President Clinton basically laid the blame at the feet of the CIA and the FBI for not being able to certify or verify that bin Laden was responsible for a number of different attacks. Does that ring true with you, Michael Scheuer?"

SCHEUER: No, sir, I don't think so. Former president seems to be able to deny facts with impunity. Bin Laden is alive today because Mr. Clinton, Mr. Sandy Berger and Mr. Richard Clarke refused to kill him. That's the bottom line. And every time he says what he said to Chris Wallace on Fox, he defames the CIA especially, and the men who risked their lives to give his administration repeated chances to kill bin Laden.

Harry Smith: "Is the Bush administration any less responsible for not finishing the job in Tora Bora?"

SCHEUER: There's plenty of blame to go around, sir, but the fact of the matter is the Bush administration had one chance that they botched, and the Clinton administration had eight to ten chances that they refused to try. At least at Tora Bora our forces were on the ground. We didn't push the point. But it's just -- it's an incredible kind of situation for the American people over the weekend to hear their former president mislead them."

What a pity, your poor brainwashed Leftists when reality and truth smacks you folks in the face, huh?

Folks, do you really think that we are better off without Saddam? I don?t.

Pick between the two below as they really were the alternatives:

(1) -Losses in American soldiers of nearly 3,000 lives;
-the destructions across the country of Iraq;
-the killings of many tens of thousands of Iraqi people;
-the sectarian violence and no end of it in sight;
-War cost nearly $500B;
-the distraction of this war from more pressing domestic and world issues such as
i) catching or killing Bin Laden,
ii) Global Warming,
iii) domestic security,
iv) alternative energy,
v) trade and budget deficits, and economy, etc.

--- VERSUS ---

(2) Saddam still in power, without WMD, having UN Inspectors inside the country, maybe messing with his people and perhaps torturing and killing some (but far less than the number this war has killed already).

I would pick (2) hands down. In other words, we are better off with Saddam than the current situation in Iraq and in USA. This is the tragedy of Georgy Bush's War in Iraq!!!

Brian,I like your idea.

I really don't want to slug it out with any of the people on this site, but I would love to get in a ring with any of the following:Fat Ass Rush,Babbling Bill O'Really, and especially the little weasel Sean Hannity.

I'd kick his Irish ass from Chi-town back to Long Island!

Peter, forget about it,these neo nuts don't want the facts. They're blinded by the right. They can't handle the truth!

Some random thoughts.
Buzz Patterson is one of the Swift Boat Liars so believe at your own peril. Richard Miniter and Buzz Patterson's books have been published by Regnery Publishing which is a conservative publisher. (Is it like a vanity press?)
Clinton never turned down the offer of Osama Bin Laden by Sudan. It never happened.
Chris Matthews is not a liberal. If anything he is a whore-shilling for whatever is most financially expedient for him to pretend to believe. He is realizing he might be on the wrong side so he is trying to rewrite his history.
Tim Russert-mostly toothless.

What has Bush done to get OBL?

Bush: We will hunt him (OBL) down. Get him dead or alive.

OBL was cornered in the mountains in Bora Bora, but was able to get out because there were not enough troops on the ground to get him.

Five years later, Bush is still no closer to finding OBL.

Within the past year Bush had disbanded the task force searching for OBL. Why? Because Bush doesn't think he was a threat. Not surprised at Bush's actions since he ignored the "Osama determined to strike the US" Daily Brief.

I just don't understand how people can be saying Clinton looked buffoonish or overly-defensive in this interview when Bush has been almost hysterical in his press conferences lately. People, go back and watch the press conference from the Rose Garden a few weeks ago, GWB was getting visibly upset over rather softball questions, certainly nothing like what Chris Wallace was asking Clinton.

Also, watch the classy GWB performance in his interview with Brian Williams the weekend of the anniversary of Katrina.

I wish we could have BJC back, I miss the true leadership and global connectedness that he engendered. Oh, and also the balanced budget and surplus and economic stability. And his work with the Palestinian and Israeli peace talks, and and and. So he fooled around, hell, 50%+ of people do, why should he have been any different, really???

Please cast your vote to throw out ALL hardline republican conservatives.

There are no compassionate conservatives in washington, they are all cold-hearted war-mongering corrupt greedy conservatives and world-destroying neocon liars.

Cast the vote, November 7th, to throw out all republicans who helped and supported this corrupt and incopetent deceptive Bush regime to destroy our America!!!

I love it, Libs like KelleyP think Chris Wallace asking Clinton why he didn't do more to get OBL is a tough question. it's just a question, a legitimate question. In fact, Wallace framed it by saying that he received many e-mails from viewers wondering why he didn't do more. It's really a simple question and one that allows Clinton to respond to it. It's not an accusatory question like Bush gets David Gregory, Terry Moran and the rest. It was a simple, straightforward question. Clinton made it more than that.

And, again, I must point out that in the 25 years Chris Wallace worked for NBC and ABC News, you libs had no problem with him. Now that he is a Fox News employee, suddenly he is part of the "vast right wing conspiracy"?? Like I said before, you libs are so rich with humor in your hypocrisy, ridiculousness, lack of understanding, hate, and overall cluelessness.

You know, JohnD, you're right. Since we're going to give credibility to Michael Scheuer, let's hear what he has to say about some subjects near and dear to our hearts:

Iraq: I happened to do the research on the links between al Qaeda and Iraq. (:MATTHEWS: And what did you come up with?) :SCHEUER: Nothing. (Hardball with Chris Matthews November 16, 2004)

Operation Iraqi Freedom :"I think Iraq is finished. We’ll just find a way to get out. I frankly don’t think we ever intended to win there. We certainly didn’t send enough troops to close borders, to control the country. [Defense Secretary Donald] Rumsfeld was obsessed, apparently with his new, lighter, faster military. The inflow of fighters is growing. The pace of the insurgency, both there and in Afghanistan, is increasing. I don’t hold much of a brief for Sen. John McCain, but he’s right, in an unpalatable way: Unless we greatly increase the number of troops we have in Iraq, we’re going to have to leave. I think the question is how do we leave? Do we leave with some dignity, or do we leave by flying off the top of the embassy as we did in Saigon?"

Don't you hate it when you have your facts thrown back in your face?

Clinton supports are absolutely insane. You talk of free speech and yet you call Fox News our version of Pravda simply because someone asked Bill Clinton a hard question. How DARE they!! You're right, you'd NEVER hear ABC, CBS (See BS News), NBC, or CNN (the Clinton News Network) ask such an honest question. They prefer the "Softball" style of Chris Matthews. It's refreshing to hear something OTHER than just the liberal viewpoint on the "news".

Fox News BIASED? Fox News mogul Rupert Murdoch donated $500,000 to the Clinton Global Initiative last week and hosted a fundraiser for U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton this summer.

Catherine,
Right......
Patterson, Mansoor Ijaz, Micheal Scheuer, the 9-11 commission. they are all just lying about Clinton having chances to get UBL.

Right....

John~
We couldn't just put thousands of troops on the ground and invade a country (as the plans represented by Mr Sheuer would have required) before 9/11. I know it's hard to remember, but at one point this country actually at least tried to abide by international law and not alienate the entire rest of the world.
9/11 did give Bush the opportunity of a lifetime to command the unified will of the world, and he squandered it.
I was never the biggest Clinton fan in the world, but he was an intelligent and committed leader honestly trying to face up to the genuine problems of our nation and the world. It stuns me that anyone who's paying attention can seriously believe the same thing of the chimp we've got in the White House now. When he can articulate in an hour half of the understanding of geopolitics, history, sociology, culture, geography, policy, civics, and government that Clinton can reel off in ten minutes...
then I'll think about taking him at his word. Oh, I forgot, even if he showed a shred of competence, he's proven himself unworthy of confidence by lying about everything from forestry to intelligence.

Oh Jack, I know reading, comprehension and understanding are not strong suits of liberals. If you noticed in my post I had said Michael Scheuer was no Bush fan. So you didn't throw any fact in my face. What you can't admit to is that Scheuer said that Clinton DID NOT try to get OBL, had no desire to get OBL and that Bush actually did more to get him.

JohnD, I wasn't always a liberal, it's the chimp in the White House who has taken this country for a bunch of chumps that has made one of me. And even then, I'm not so much a "liberal" as a conservative with a brain and interest in the human condition. Clinton himself is barely a liberal, his views and concerns are the same as of the majority of this country, and also of the majority of the Western world.

I don't have a problem with Chris Wallace's question, I was very interested in hearing BJC's answer from his own lips. Chris was not very respectful in how he asked it, this is a former two-term president who is still doing very important work in the world, he deserved better than the smirky snarky attitude. I was glad Clinton called him out on that.

I get irritated with the rest of the media getting all up in arms about how Clinton became "enraged", etc. As though that was the only thing worth reporting about in the 15 minute interview...his emotional response. Well, thankfully, he *has* emotions and admits to his regret in failing to get OBL.

Does anyone other than the media care about OBL anymore? I am more concerned with the future of Iraq and our country making sure we don't create another unstable Afghanistan post-soviet-invasion. We'd be dealing with a Taliban-like breeding ground for terrorism at least five or six times that of Afghanistan if we don't follow through. It will take more troops and more money, but I think it will also require different leadership, these idiots who've been driving the war so far have failed and it's time to get a new team with new ideas on board.

Catherine;
How many times do you neocons need to be told that you can't just invade whoever you feel like whenever you feel like it? Clinton stretched almost to the breaking point by lobbing missles into Afghanistan and he got international grief for it and Republican howls. If he wasn't able to do more might it have been because YOUR party was spending 50 million dollars of taxpayer money to find out about Lewinsky? And now you talk of how we shouldn't undermine a president just because he does away with the 4th and 1st amendments and tortures people without even a trial. I am astounded. Do you people care about anything but your own behinds? You're cool with torture, fraud, conspiracy, war, ineptitude, ignorance, intolerance, and profligacy... but just let someone try to draw a penny in tax and you're in froth.
Can I get a rightwinger on this board to concede that the numerous allegations against this admin. should at least get a special prosecutor attached to investigate them like Clinton's BJ did? After all, like you guys say about wiretaps and secret prisons: what are you scared of if you've done nothing wrong?

No JohnD. The facts I'm throwing in your face are:

Are these true? If so, what does that say about GWB's Iraq adventure?

Sure, BJC failed to get OBL. And he owned up to it. Now, are you going to own up for the current occupant that he and his gang (1) lied to go to war over Iraq (no WMD/no AQ connection) and (2) screwed the pooch royally and now we're in a hotter, drier VietNam?

I'll be waiting for your answer, should you desire to cough one up.

KelleyP,
You are so right.
The national discussion - today and every day till Rumsfeld is fired - should zero in on the Presidents dogged insistence that the incompetent Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld retain his job.
Bushs confidence in the buffoon - despite credible evidence that Rumsfeld has bungled so many missions and goals Iraq - is no less than mind-numbing.
The Presidents inaction regarding Rumsfeld is
a dereliction of his duty as Commander in Chief.
They should both step down.

"Fox News BIASED? Fox News mogul Rupert Murdoch donated $500,000 to the Clinton Global Initiative last week and hosted a fundraiser for U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton this summer."

Right, Scott, Fox News is not biased at all!

~cough~

Maybe the question is - why does the media get so much power - and from whom?

The administration that wants it's message out? Doubters squashed?

How free are we?

Clinton rules!
Bush is a fool!

Mon dieu, 320 comments. They haven't been this riled up since the "overtopping" versus "breach" posting.

Most of Bush's support comes from the "Pro-Life" quarter whose concern for life is basically limited to embryos and fetuses. Do you ever hear them voice any concern for the thousands dying daily in the Middle East. I guess morality is still
all about sex for the far Right, while for the Left it's about killing, torture, and war.

all about sex for the far Right, while for the Left it's about killing, torture, and war.

I'm neither left or right, but I want the killing, torture and war stopped by all parties. And I'm not going to let the far right have the monopoly on sex.

Bill,

You better get off the George W. Bush bandwagon, and start pumping up your boy John McCain.
George Dubya and Co. are going to jail...eventually.,if you want to hitch your boat to that trailor,be my guest.

John McCain needs to start running away from the W. crew right now,or he will have NO CHANCE in 2008.

Just a thought Bill,...I used to like McCain BEFORE he started sucking up to the Bush people.

I can only imagine how low Dubya's approval rating is going to go in the next two years,if McCain hitch's a ride with Dubya and Co.,he will get flushed down the toilet also.
I'm sure this doesn't matter to you, you're are the guy who thinks Richard Nixon was a great president, and Karl Rove is just the most fun loving, swell guy ever.
Get ready for reality to slap you in the face Bill.
If you sign up for Iraq now, maybe you can skip out on the front line duty that would come with a draft,...........oh...I'm sorry......Neo Cons don't fight in wars........THEY START WARS......and then they have someone elses kids fight them for them......my mistake..BYE BILL..

Clinton is what Clinton is, a malignant narcissus.

I like when Bill Jeff says, "I fought Bin Laden." Bill Clinton fighting anyone but women, working staff and small guys is a joke. What, did Bill think he was ex-SF?

Anyways, the Boy President aside, it isn't his entire fault. What would you expect from a National Security leadership of Cohen the poetry (really bad, too) Secretary of Defense, Albright (I didn't know I was Jewish, and this is my first Job) as Sec of State, "Sandy" Berger, and "Pants" Tenant? You can imagine what the quality of the second and third tier National Security staff must have been like? All Green Berets and fighter pilots...or...lefty, crunchy granola Berkley/Yale/Harvard can't we all get along types. But, again, I do have to say that for anyone with eyes, the Clintons always were 'you get, what you see.'

I’m not going to defend Bush because I think his pre 9/11 was pathetic too. I remember Rice a few days afterward saying as sort of a vague excuse for 9/11, "How could anyone imagine...” I did. Clark did. The head of security in the WTC at Morgan Stanley did. Bin Laden did. But Rice is a nice lady that I am told plays the piano well.

Marines in Lebanon. Nothing. The Marine Colonel working for the UN who was kidnapped and hung. Nothing. Navy Diver pushed to the door of the aircraft, shot and dumped. Nothing. The poor Jewish American, Klinghoffer shot in his wheelchair and pushed off the cruise ship. Nothing. First WTC attack on 25,000 working people, call the cops (Bill Jeff didn't even go to New York)...I blame the lefties, who never hardly want to do anything but lay down and lick sandals, I blame the lefty State Dept that is more interested in getting posts where the boys are cheap. I blame the CIA, a loser organization since the late '40's. I blame all the high power national security types for more concerned with the size of their offices than getting together like adults and providing our elected officials, Clinton, the Bushes, Reagan with poor advice.

Two types of Americans did nothing and wanted it that way. The left and the muddled middle. Don’t blame us on the right, we’ve always known people wanted to kill Americans, not for what we do as Americans but for what we are. Anyways, It’s nice to see the Left joining the ‘we can defend and fight too’ side, because there are about 500 million males who worship death and take as their leader a pedophile women beater, and whose best day on that September day began when they went to the back of the aircrafts where they had ordered the Stewardess to wait, and then slit their throats.

It is going to be a long war. We can't lose this one.

John E,

Yeah, I used to like McCain, too. I wouldn't have voted for him; too conservative, but he was honorable and a worthy opponent for any Dem.

But he allowed himself to be Colin-ized by the Bush crowd, losing integrity and credibility along the way.
************
(any time is Cream time!)

John D,
Please inform us what Bush did to stop 9/11 from happening. And particularly what was his response after he recieved PDB headlined "Bin Laden determined to strike inside the United States". And Paul were you one of those "wag the doggers" after Clinton sent cruise missiles into Afghanistan or were you on the streets foaming at the mouth to get public support and start a war against Al-Qaeda? I only remember one reaction to that episode.

Janet, do a little investigating and look at the 9/11 Commission Report. You will find that the Bush administration actively was formulating a plan to get rid of OBL. You also must remember that a protracted election battle also made it difficult for Bush administration to move forward. But you will find that the Bush administraton was meeting nearly every day before 9/11 occurred about terrorism and Al Qaeda.
Regarding "wag the dog." It was brought up, largely by media folk I might add, because Slick Willy sent a cruise missile into an empty training camp and into an aspirin factory, the day after Monica testified before the grand jury. One cruise missile into an empty training camp and an aspirin factory hardly constitutes as an effort to kill OBL. Why not try again after the first attempt failed if Clinton was serious about getting him?

While the video was yanked from YouTube you can watch it from Google Video:

and part two here:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6620818158935418334&q=clinton+fox

You can even download it from Google Video for your offline viewing enjoyment. It's suprising how powerful it is to watch - Clinton is utterly brilliant in it. I wish we had a President with that kind of presence.

Clinton is lying, he did not have a comprehensive strategy for Al-Qaeda and Rice is completely justified by saying "We were not left a comprehensive strategy to fight al Qaeda,". Refer to this interview with Richard Clarke in 2002, the person that Clinton based his entire argument on. It completely contradicts every Clinton says http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,115085,00.html

I love it! The right-wingers are still complaining about the presidency of Bill Clinton six years after Clinton's second term has ended.

Even the right-wingers know, but will never admit, that if we didn't limit the length of tenure of our presidents, Clinton would still be in the White House if he had chosen that option.

The interview on FOX NEWS with Chris Wallace was 100% Clinton. To say the least, it was a breath of fresh air. Clinton says what he thinks and thinks what he says. What a change from our present poor excuse for a leader, George W. Bush.

Texas George has to be the worst speaker to ever call the White House his home. The man can't think and talk at the same time, and if he hadn't discovered such words as "liberty, democracy, and freedom," he would have nothing to say. He is a big time 'fear monger" who was lucky that 9/11 came on his watch. Have you ever thought about it? Where would Texas George be with out 9/11?
I know this....he would not have been reelected in 2004.

I can't believe that we have two more years left of Texas George and his brain-dead leadership. Things could change after the up coming November election. A Democrat controlled House and Senate would make Texas George a lame duck.....wouldn't that be sweet!!

Last note and a little late, this from non-partisan Factcheck.org largely confirms Clinton's version of events and heavily questions Rice's:
