Good morning.

Here are a few Washington events of note for Monday, October 2, as collected by the Associated Press.

It being the first Monday in October, the Surpeme Court starts hearing its annual docket of cases.

President Bush is meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.


Oct. 1 - 4. GASIFICATION — The Gasification Technologies Council holds its annual conference.
8:30 a.m. Roundtable to discuss energy alternatives, with Shell Oil CEO John Hofmeister, Peabody Energy CEO Gregory Boyce, Siemens Power Generation CEO Randy Zwirn, and Texas Railroad Commission Commissioner Michael Williams.

Oct. 2 - 3. HISPANIC CAUCUS — The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institutes’ holds its Public Policy Conference Summit.
10 a.m. Session on education in the Hispanic community, with Rep. Ruben Hinojosa, Scott Lilly of the Center for American Progress, Maria Neira of AFT and NY State United Teachers First, others. .

8:30 a.m. MIGRANT EDUCATION — Deputy Education Secretary Raymond Simon addresses the Binational Migrant Education Forum.

11:30 a.m. EL SALVADOR — The U.S. Chamber of Commerce holds a program with a business delegation from El Salvador including Trade Minister Jose Ruben Rochi on travel and tourism investment opportunities in El Salvador.

12:30 p.m. IRAN-IRANIANS — The Heritage Foundation holds a program on ``Why Iranians Do Not Think Like the Iranian Regime,’’ with Iranian dissident Amir Abbas Fakhravar.

5 p.m. EDUCATION-RELIGION — The School of Advanced International Studies holds a program with Maria van der Hoeven, minister for Education, Culture and Science of the Netherlands, and Francis Fukuyama, director of the SAIS International Development Program, on what role education can play in the integration of different religious communities within democratic societies.

7:30 p.m. ABORTION PROTEST — The American Life League’s youth outreach team holds a candlelght vigil on the first day of the Supreme Court’s fall session.
