Talk about reluctant warriors.

There is little fight left in Republicans returning for the lame-duck session of Congress. All they want to do is pass what's necessary, possibly get in a few political blows, and then adjourn. They're still in power, but their heart clearly is not in it.

A visit to speakers' lobby in the House of Representatives clearly shows the clashing moods. On the GOP side, hearts are heavy over November's thrashing. On the Democratic side, hearts are light over the prospects of power.

Insult has been added to injury for the losers. They have been consigned to a basement corridor of the Rayburn Office Building. The offices are tiny. It's like a lame-duck ghetto.

House Republican Leader John Boehner said he wants the House to adjourn by the end of the week. But he said he would seek to bring back to the floor a Senate-passed energy bill that would expand natural gas drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. He had yanked this measure from the floor on Tuesday because he couldn't get the two-thirds vote required for giving the bill a fast-track treatment.

Boehner said he would seek to attach an amendment to this bill to extend several expired tax cuts, such as $4,000 tax deductions for college students. But time is running short, and complications could develop. For one thing, Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) is preparing to offer an amendment to the natural-gas drilling bill requiring oil companies to pay higher royalties.

The GOP is planning to bring up a bill Wednesday that could cause controversy. Supported by social conservatives, the legislation would state that fetuses feel pain and require abortion clinics to offer pregnant patients anesthesia for their unborn children.

The House on Tuesday approved a bill to preserve internment camps where Japanese- Americans were housed during World War II. A $38 million program of National Park Service would restore 10 such camps. It also approved a resolution naming a room in the U.S. Capitol, H-139, after retiring Illinois Republican Henry Hyde.

The GOP has already given up on passing appropriations bills that it could not get through before the election. It hopes to push through a resolution that continues support for government programs until February, in effect passing the buck to the Democrats.

Markey, a 30-year veteran of Congress, said he's gone from majority to minority and back to majority, and understands the gloomy view from the Republican side. But for Democrats, he said, "Happy days are here again."

But happy days are no longer here for GOP members both young and old. Rep. Chris Chocola (R-Ind.,) who lost, said he's going back to his home state to make his next move after only two terms in Congress, and likely won't run again. He said he's gained respect for the institution but would have liked to have seen more work done on fiscal responsibility.

Rep. James Leach (R-Iowa) is a 30-year veteran who lost his seat. Among his achievements: he pushed landmark financial modernization legislation through the House. He said his chief regret is the polarization of American politics that he said has had a corroding influence on U.S. culture.

"I see both parties as mirror images of each other," Leach said.

Oh, the Republicans are sad? Oh my. We don't want them to be sad.

Maybe we should let them stay in the majority. Are spiraling deficits and a foriegn policy that even they admit is a failure too high a price to pay to keep the Republicans in the majority in Congress and make them happy campers again?

Oh yeah, That's right, it is.

They Quacked loudly before and still did nothing...no change really...just a little less
noise.

GOP is leaving unpassed budgets behind Like Mine the VA Budget for 2007. When Congress comes back they will have two weeks to fix what has been done. Before Dubba puts out his 2008 Veterans Budget which looks like he will be hurting us veterans even more. Now Yes John D he raised the VA Budget not in health care but paybacks to his people who gave cash to the GOP. Yes John D he gave no bid contracts to his friend off the veterans backs. And made it look like he raised the Budget. And he did not raise health care the most needed thing for veterans. GOP games are over oversight is showing the truth.

'Quack softly, but carry a big crutch'

Think of the task left to the Dems; Years of one liners snuck into bills at the last minute that no one ever knew about.

"The GOP is planning to bring up a bill Wednesday that could cause controversy. Supported by social conservatives, the legislation would state that fetuses feel pain and require abortion clinics to offer pregnant patients anesthesia for their unborn children."

These jihadis insist on getting between doctor and patient.

I can remember when Mengele Frist diagnosed Terri S. as awake and responsive. Turned out her brain was the size and consistency of a liquified orange.

I am still waiting for everyone connected to that Republican debacle to issue apologies to Mr. Schiavo.

One of the Republicans favorite tactics against socialized medicine is; do you want the government involved in your medical decisions? Guess it depends on who's medical decision we are talking about.

There was little fight in House Republicans even before the November election. And Senate Republicans are even more spineless, with their French-inspired accomodation of the Democrats and their media allies. Nothing has changed.

sounds like epiphany time for Bruce??

Can we guess who the donor is. Paulo? Little Johnny. Brucie? Kramer? Henry Hyde? All of the above?

Maybe they can name the baby "Hypocrisy".

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Mary Cheney, the openly gay daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney and wife Lynne, is pregnant, according to a published report.

Mary Cheney, 37, and her partner of 15 years, Heather Poe, 45, are "ecstatic" about the baby, due in late spring, The Washington Post reported in Wednesday's editions, quoting an unnamed source close to the couple.

The vice president's other, older daughter, Elizabeth Cheney, is on leave as deputy assistant secretary of state after having her fifth child with her husband in July.

There was no formal announcement of either daughter's pregnancy from the vice president's office, but the Post quoted spokeswoman Lea Anne McBride as saying Tuesday night that "the vice president and Mrs. Cheney are looking forward with eager anticipation to the arrival of their sixth grandchild."

Mary Cheney was an aide to her father during the 2004 campaign, as was Elizabeth, and now is vice president for consumer advocacy at AOL.

The Post quoted the source close to the family as saying the circumstances of Mary Cheney's pregnancy will remain private. She and Poe moved from Colorado to Virginia a year ago to be closer to the Cheney family.

In an interview with the Post six months ago, when asked if she and Poe wanted children, Cheney said that was a "conversation I think I should have with Heather first."

If palliative measures for pain is a priority for these philistines, why do people with chronic degenerative diseases have limits on the drugs that can be used to help them?

I found the House Republican treatment of the incoming Democratic majority more inspired by GWB's accomodation of the Bin Ladens. Isn't it refreshing how the threat of subpoena power can affect an attitude adjustment.

Hasn't the GOP learned anything since the Schiavo debacle? My how the climate has changed. Though it is widely noted that Bush's pathetic response to Katrina was the turning point for his administration, I would argue that the Schiavo mess was the beginning of the end for the GOP and the Bushies. They were at the heights of power and at their most immoral, ruthless and calculating and saw a chance to pander to social conservatives yet again.

Little did they know how overwhelmingly the American public would stand on the correct side of the issue. I would have loved to see their faces as they began to realize they had made a very bad decision.

This ridiculous 'issue' of fetus pain is only going to look like the stunt that it is.

May they enjoy their well-deserved time in the basement.

Gabe,
Well said. Excellent posting.

"A Chicago businessman who has been a prominent Democratic campaign donor pleaded guilty Wednesday to swindling Chicago schools out of more than $200,000 by submitting false snow-removal claims. "

I want all of the Lemmings who blindly follow the Dem's intoo the sea to read the above quote. there are many people on this blog (Loon et.al) who like to bash the job done and the morals demonstrated by the GOP. Be careful throwing stones. Your Dem's have as many corrupt, criminal and immoral members and donators as the GOP. And as I have said before, by summer I should see all the miracles that you propogate the Dem's are going to perform to solve all of our nations ills!!

Gabe.....Yea, what he said!

I might also point out that cons are world class flip-floppers when it comes to state's rights. They're all so "Jeffersonian" when it suits them. Then who have a fiasco like the Florida recount and they charge in, guns a blazin, demanding Federal intervention.

C Mo...No surprise, the fetus issue. Got to give Bush's successor a head start on capturing the RR vote. Weren't these the same folks who said destroying a stem cell was akin to dismembering the limbs of an unborn fetus? Even Orrin doesn't but into that one.

Bruce.. I hear that Leno is looking for new contestants for his Jaywalk Allstars.

Marty, You miss the point. We Libs aren't lemms. We don't follow our wayward democrats into the gutter or off a cliff. That's ditto-head behavior that we can't subscribe to.
When Johnson was botching the VietNam War, we weren't cheer-leading like your pun-dicks over at Fox. Just the opposite. Those of us who were old enough, and weren't drafted, were at campuses like Berkeley, joining the protestors. That didn't mean we were anti-vet, I lost friends over there. We just thought it was a B.S. War, just like the current Iraqi debacle.
My guess is that you believe in the 'Britney Doctrine', that is, "I think we should trust our President in every decision he makes and just support that". Talk about your "lemmings".

No unlettered, I do not follow anybody blindly. I was raised and am a registered Republican, but my vote is given to the person whose ideals and statements impress me the most. Obama got my vote. Rod got my vote, but this year it was similar to choosing between a root canal and an enema. As far as "Britney Doctrine", I trust NOBODY other than my wife and kids blindly. Trust is earned, period. There are VERY FEW politicians today that I trust. I truely believe that a great majority of them on both sides of the aisle are corrupt, and are motivated soley by greed. There constiuents are merely people whose backsides they have to adhere to when election time comes. After that, we are nothing more than fodder for their wallets.
I am sorry for the loss of your friend. My Best Man, my best friend is on his 3rd tour of duty. First in Pakistan, now 2 in Iraq. I pray that his wife and kids do not have to face the horrible phone call. I will concede that not all Dem's are as I describe. But there are several on this blogs whose comments lead one to believe that they will follow the DEm's no matter where they go.
So, my friend, trust must be earned. And which party an individual represents means nothing. It is the words that come out of their mouth, and their actions. If they are a Rep, and a jerk, than they will not get my vote.

unlettered,

Marty thinks all those protesters against the Dems. in '68 were Republicans, I guess.

C. Morris,
You have no idea what I think. And you are the poster child for ASS in ASSUME. So, you can say you "THINK my opinion is...", but to state it as fact, well enough said. My brother and sister were among the protesters in "68. You obviously miss the point. Todays ills will not be solved by a "party". We are in too deep. However, there are numerous bloggers who have clearly indicated their idea that now that the Dem's are i control, peace on earth will be a reality. My cause is teh amount of time wasted arguing about th eRep's did this, the Dems did that. If 1/4 of this energy were spent coming up with strategies/ideas, maybe peace would reign. BUt the imbeciles on both sides of teh aisle do nat have time for that. They are too busy collecting hugh salaries for doing nothing; robbing their constiuents of their tax dollars, and acting in a way that should cause them to hope that atheists are right.
SO, next time, maybe show an ounce ot two of intelligence, and ASK me what my opinion is. Dem/Rep, does not matter if they are a moron.

So, Marty,

Do you think the protesters in '68 were repubs. or Dems.?

I accept your counterpoint. I was hasty.

I don't think that many of the bloggers here believe the the Democrats will be bringing nirvana any time soon. Politics can be very corrupting to all of its participants. It's just great to see these santimonious pricks take it on the chin.

marty,

Well, to answer my own question;
the protesters were lefties, liberals, Dems, some Repubs. But it was heavily tilted to the left.

The reason I made the statement is, many con. posters on this blog like to try to use Johnson's support for escalation in Vietnam as a method of attack, forgetting that;

1. Liberals completely turned on LBJ after '65 over Vietnam policy.
2. Johnson himself had the balls to step aside in '68 acknowledging his huge mistake.

Here's a little morning entertainment for the poor lame ducks.

(To Killing me Softly)

Frist is a pain that still lingers
Stingin' my life with his words
But he is quaking so softly with his song
Telling us all that they will soon be gone

Quaking so softly with his song

I heard Rove sang a bad song,
I heard he had real bile,
And so we came to see him and listen for a while
And there he was this Turd Blossom
A danger to our lives

Quaking so softly with his song

I felt all flushed with fever
Embarrased by this clown
I felt he found my phone calls and read each one out loud,
I prayed that he would finish
But he just kept right on

Quaking so softly with his song

i think its unfair bush being blamed as he is
first its tough seeing people die but if you join the armed forces you accept the risk after
sept 11 bush done what people wanted because it
it did not go as planned they run him down
as we have seen in the past years we will always
have hitlers pearl harbours saddem and anybody can tell the U,N, to get stuffed and it starts again,
i wonder what the clintons would have done
i would give bush my vote anyday
