Anybody know what 'permalink' does or how it works?

Fancy name for a bookmark to be used mostly in blogs:
www.techterms.org/definition/permalink
"Short for "permanent link." A permalink is a URL that links to a specific news story or Web posting. Permalinks are most commonly used for blogs, which are frequently changed and updated. They give a specific Web address to each posting, allowing blog entries to be bookmarked by visitors or linked to from other websites.
Because most blogs are published using dynamic, database-driven Web sites, they do not automatically have Web addresses associated with them. For example, a blog entry may exist on a user's home page, but the entry may not have its own Web page, ending in ".html," ".asp," ".php," etc. Therefore, once the posting is outdated and no longer present on the home page, there may be no way to access it. Using a permalink to define the location of each posting prevents blog entries from fading off into oblivion."
Happy New Year, cm!

This is what I found on Wikipedia:
A permalink is a URL that points to a specific blogging entry even after the entry has passed from the front page into the blog archives. Because a permalink remains unchanged indefinitely, its use avoids link rot. Most modern weblogging and content-syndication software systems, including Wordpress, Movable Type, LiveJournal, RapidWeaver, and Blogger, support such links. Other types of websites use permalinks, too, but the term itself is most common within the blogosphere. Permalink is a portmanteau word made from permanent link and is often simply stated so as to be human-readable.

You guys are terrific for helping an old man,,,,
but!!
I click it, nothing happens differently.??
Is there a permalink button in the archive that if I click it, it will produce my 'permalinked' blogs?
Not trying to assign homework here, but if you know how to actually use it, tip me off.
thanks

Are you way up north in Canada, Alaska, Minnesota?
Just wondering, might have 'people' up your way.

"Russia's Own" - Alaska. Lots of folks from N. Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin here - came up, liked it, stayed. Lots from Texas & Oklahoma - came up, liked the $$ during the Pipeline buildup, blew the $$, couldn't afford to leave, and stayed.............
Invites to everyone on the Swamp - c'mon up, it's as incredible as is written. I wouldn't live anywhere else. Of course, our politics "is about as interestin'" as those in Chicago...
