President Bush, who first campaigned as "a uniter, not a divider,'' is attempting to reopen a lost conversation with Democrats now that they control Congress for the remaining two years of his term.
Bush has agreed to address a conference of congressional Democrats in Virginia on Feb. 3, according to an announcement that Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.), chairman of the conference, has made to members.
The president's appearance on a Saturday morning at the Democrats' retreat in Williamsburg, Va., will not mark the first time that he has addressed the opposing party – he did so his first year as president. Former President Bill Clinton also will speak there.
But it does represent an attempt by the White House to maintain a dialog with Democrats even as they accelerate their opposition to his war strategy in Iraq. Bush also plans to address his own party's congressional retreat on Friday at a Chesapeake Bay resort hotel in Maryland.
This is the emailed announcement that Emanuel made on Friday:
Subject: Letter from Chairman Emanuel
Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to give you this update on the upcoming Democratic Issues Conference.
I'm happy to announce that President Bush has accepted our invitation to address the conference on Saturday morning. We will also be joined by Former President Clinton, who will speak to us on Thursday evening. Presidents Bush and Clinton will be joined by other speakers who have agreed to address our caucus as well.
I look forward to enjoying a successful conference with you, and invite you to contact me or my office with questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Rahm

President Rambo's idea to "surge" troops into Iraq has resulted in 27 of our troops getting killed today.
W. is brilliant, now instead of Iraqi's killing each other they're killing our troops.
I guess W. did stop the civil war for one day.
Congratulations on giving us the Decider for 6+ yrs, Rabid RightWing Nutjobs!

Good grief, doesn't this country have ANYONE else to lead us besides the political "retreads" named Bush or Clinton? Perhaps this is one reason why Obama is so popular.
I am not a "Hillary hater", but there are almost as many out there as "Bush haters". We need new voices, brighter minds, fresh ideas, and fewer polarizing egos. We also need to forsget this idea of "keeping it in the family"; didn't we just do that and look where it has taken us.
