Sen. Dick Durbin, second-in-command in the Democratic-controlled Senate, castigated President Bush’s surge strategy for Iraq today, days before Bush is expected to announce his new plan in a speech to the nation.
Maybe the president should just pretend he’s already given the speech since nearly everyone in Washington already has an opinion on it, much of it negative.
In any event, Durbin expressed some of the most caustic congressional opposition yet for the president’s expected plan of lifting the troop level in Iraq, largely by extending the tours of units already there while speeding deployment of those waiting to go.
“We went from deception to denial and now we’re in delusion, a delusion that somehow sending more American troops into the field of battle, putting them in the midst of a civil war… is going to bring this to an end sooner. I think the president is wrong….”

Let's play Carnac from Johnny Carson
'Deception, denial, delusion'
Three words that describes what goes on inside Senator Little D!ck Durbin's head.

Dick "Turban" Durbin is SCUM.Comparing our troops at Guantanamo to the regimes of Adolf Hitler,Josef Stalin and Pol Pot and within an hour AlJazeera was blasting his statements all over the middle east and putting our soldiers in more danger.
Who Cares what he says or thinks after that!
....I'm sure Dale Peters would agree.

I agree with Senator Durbin 100%.
Now that we have a Democratic controlled Congress the GOP NeoCons are being exposed as the lying, dirtbags that they really are.
W. has been in over his head ever since he stole the office in 2000.
President Pelosi has a nice ring to it.

While I did not see the whole speech...I'm sure I'll find it on C-SPAN...thank you Mr. Durban for your comments. I am one of those who had a sick feeling in my stomach right before we went into Iraq. It was the wrong thing to do. We should have "finished the job" in Afghanistan. The drug production has increased there and so have our enemies in the south. It's like the president is playing a game of Risk...moving his armies and generals around with no care of what the outcome will be.

Terry makes unsupported attacks on the person's chararcter, while Paulo willfully mistates what Durbin actually said. In other words, it's a normal morning here in the Swamp.

I'd like to apologize if my last post made it seem like I was calling Terry out in particular. It was more my intent to call ot the tactic, not the person. Sorry Terry.

"Deception .. denial ... delusion". Senator Durbin is guilty of all three.
Posted by: Bruce | January 9, 2007 8:02 AM
Tony, how exactly did Paulo distort what Dickie Durbin said?
On the Senate floor, Dickie Durbin said this: "If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime — Pol Pot or others — that had no concern for human beings."
Sounds like Dickie Durban comparing our troops to Pol Pot, Soviet gulags and Nazis to me.
When, oh when, will you leftists EVER get a clue and for once get smart???

Johnny D-
Durbing compared specific actions, not "our troops" as a whole. Unfortunately he was also all too correct about the shameful nature of those actions.

Somehow, come Thursday(?) Dick will be proven correct.
Stay the course on steroids.
How will 30k more troops;
secure the borders
secure the road to the airport
secure the oil and power infrastructure?

Ah, the defeatist Lefties: Let's just give up. We can't win. How will we win? There is no way we can win.
Good thing that attitude wasn't around after Pearl Harbor, at the Battle of Gettysburg, during the Revolutionay War and countless other battles. Now I fully see why the Loony Left has so much in common with France. "Surrender, we can't win," that is your motto and France's!!

Shouldn't he be busy hunting for Nazis? If you ever don't like what Dick Turbin has to say you can always just wait three days for the apology.

The man the right wing loons of Illinois love to hate.Amazing, you would think the right wing nuts would be lining up to face off with ole Turban Durbin in the next election.
Recent articles claim the Repubs can't get anyone in Illinois to step forward and take on Dickie.Come on Paulo,Brucie, little Johnny, prod your fellow ilk,or we'll be left with Alan Keyes,Judy oh no,Ober,no,no..........
Republicans in Illinois on are the endangered species list.

John D,
It was a simple question I posed.
Will the surge accomplish any of the (see above?)
I think it would take at least 10k to secure the road to the airport.
The 20k left would not be able to accomplish the other two tasks.
300K plus needed for those tasks.

At the times of the Revolution, Gettysburg, and Pearl Harbor we had competent leadership, unlike now. George W. Bush is no Washington, Lincoln or FDR.
Is Bush a lefty defeatist? after almost 4 uyears of war under his leadership he admits we're not winning?

Tony-Washington Post-Wed.June 22,2005
Sen.Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill) yesterday offered a tearful apology on the Senate floor for comparing the alleged abuse of prisoners by "American Troops" to techniques used br Nazis, the Soviets and the Khmer Rouge as he sought to quell a frenzy of Rep. led criticism...
Your turn Tony.....

Yep, He apologized Paulo -
"More than 1700 American soldiers have been killed in Iraq and our country’s standing in the world community has been badly damaged by the prison abuses at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo. My statement in the Senate was critical of the policies of this Administration which add to the risk our soldiers face.”
“I will continue to speak out when I disagree with this Administration.”
“I have learned from my statement that historical parallels can be misused and misunderstood. I sincerely regret if what I said caused anyone to misunderstand my true feelings: our soldiers around the world and their families at home deserve our respect, admiration and total support.”
What you just quoted above makes it clear he compared techniques, not the troops themselves. Thanks for making my point that you willfully misrepresented him.

Paulo,
If you could complete a whole sentence us "lefties" might give you the benefit of the doubt, but that's the problem with the Right Wingnuts, you can't do it and the GOP DryDrunk in Chief is a fine example of this.
Senator Durbin you are 100% correct, sir!
Posted by: John E. | January 9, 2007 12:28 PM
Is this guy Paolo or whatever his name is a complete moron or what? It seems to me that the general comments by Sen. Durbin were correct weren't they? I really appreciate loyalty as a positive trait but why can't these Bush enablers just admit that he/they are totally wrong...for the good of this country...please.
Posted by: michael | January 9, 2007 1:10 PM
Yeah, Tony, this is an apology: "I sincerely regret if what I said caused anyone to misunderstand my true feelings." Now if you think that is an apology, I have some Tony Rezco-owned land I can sell you!!
Posted by: John D | January 9, 2007 1:11 PM
Paolo, standard Dick Turbin policy is wait three days and then apologize for the load of tripe you spewed for political purposes. This isn't the first time he's done it. Hopefully the furor will die down and you'll have energized the base on the fringe left to repeat what you've said as if it had any connection to fact.
Posted by: Jeff | January 9, 2007 5:02 PM
Tony - Unsupported attacks on Senator Durbin's character? He has to have character first before on can attack it. They don't call him Eddie Haskel for nothing.
Tony, why don't you read all the unsupported attacks on the character of the President? Read John E. for starters (all I had to do was scroll down and find "Dry Drunk in Chief"). Apology accepted.
Crazy Duck, they don't call it the Peoples Republic of Illinois for nothing.
