Many of Illinois's best-known politicians made the trek to Springfield for Sen. Barack Obama's presidential announcement today.
An exception was Rep. Rahm Emanuel. He was spotted by the Chicago Tribune's Bob Secter, who reported that he and Emanuel were poolside on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago this morning at the time of Obama's speech.
"He's here with me at a swim meet at UIC, his bb glued to his ear," Secter said in an e-mail to a Tribune colleague. BB stands for BlackBerry.
Emanuel attended the swim meet as the proud father of one of the competitors.
Emanuel, who worked as a fundraiser for candidate Bill Clinton and an advisor in the Clinton White House, has claimed neutrality in the race for the Democratic nomination, not endorsing his old boss's wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York, or fellow Illinois delegation member Obama.

It's late. We've been reading about Obama all day. Let's take a break by listening to our Senior Senator make an idiot of himself on the Senate floor by admitting he himself, has no idea what he said.

Better to be at a swim meet and watch your kids swim, than to be at Obama's announcement and swim in the socialist rhetoric he's selling the uneducated and mindless minority of defeatocrats.

Rahm must be a closet republican to harbor such "family values".
I'm with you Jeff, thank goodness Dick Durbin hasn't thrown his name in the hat for POTUS.
Unfortunately, this drooling, sleepy senior senator has:

The Swamp has written more about Congressman Emanuel than about all the Republican presidential candidates combined. Heck, the Swamp has written more about Emanuel's kid's swim meet than about the Republicans.

There you go again Paulo making the same old numb-skull comments that only prove your inadequate intelligence level. If you think that standing up for our republic, and for our constitutional rights is somehow in your mind being anti-American, then maybe you should be the one to relocate to a different country that shares your political ideology. China? North Korea? You may still have time to get to Cuba before Castro kicks the bucket?

Hey Paulo,
Scoreboard.
Get used to it.

Everybody has known for months that Obama was going to announce for President. The hype has been so great that the actual announcement was an anticlimax. I'd say that Emanuel's priorities were in the right place.

So it would be the hype you are against. You would prefer something more low keyed in your politicians? Maybe baby kissing and petting your dog on the front lawn is more up your alley. You want someone with more of a little house on the prairie kind of feel.

Paulo,
I'm asking you in the nicest way possible considering how hateful you are.
Whom do you support for President?
Bruce,ditto for you.
You two are always screaming about the Dem candidates so tell us who we should support and why?
If you can't do this then you are basically admitting that you are nothing more than a dime store version of Karl Rove and you should be ignored by everyone here.

If I were a partisan who loves nothing better than the sound of my own voice I'd post attack ads that cut and splice statements by Obama, too. But I don't do that. I'd like to hear what Obama has to say. Not attach labels like "sleepy senator" to candidates at this ridiculously early level of the campaign. Everybody who has half a brain knows that McCain was reading the text of the speech, not sleeping. Of course that half a brain qualification rules out Bubba.
Keep posting attack ads, loser. We'll keep posting the undoctored senate floor footage of people like Durbin.

Well, John E., I'm trying to find a time on this blog when you didn't robotically support only democrats with mindless slogans and absolutely zero substance to your posts. I can't. No one can because it's your stock and trade. When you point your finger at people like Paulo, all you're doing is illustrating how you're the opposite side of the same coin.

William Jeff,
Durbin must be doing a good job for Illinois because the Republic Party can't find anyone who can beat him.
I noticed that John McSurge is pro Iraq war and I wonder if you could wake him up so we could ask him if he still feels this way.

Obama would be worse than Jimmy Carter,if you want high taxes, high interest rates,no gasoline and a weak military vote for Obama because he doesn't have a clue.

Paolo,if you know so much tell us which Republican we should vote for?
People of Crestwood, rise up against the terrorist in your midst...Paolo the NeoCon..

Oh, come on, bill r. What's your point here, aside from the one you comb your hair to hide? All I'm saying is that it's been obvious for so long that Obama was going to announce that the actual announcement was an anticlimax, and given the choice between traveling to Springfield to watch a non-event and supporting his family, Emanuel made the right choice.

Paulo:
People like you scream and rant about how "Democrats are going to raise taxes!" so I challenge you to tell us how to pay off the $2 BILLION dollars added to the Federal Budget Deficit in Bush's 6 years in office if we don't pay taxes. The non-partisan CBO has already released data that says Bush's budgets have overly optimistic revenus forecasts, and will ADD to the deficits yearly, NOT shrink it.

WillJeff,
Like I said, I'm thankful that Durbin isn't running.
Yes, the video I posted cuts and splices as much as your Durbin video. Durbin isn't running. Pander Bear McSurge is.
Here is Pander Bear redefining the term "Senior Senator". Apparently the speech was written on the inside of his eyelids:

Sorry, I meant "TRILLION", not "Billion", dollars added to the Federal Deficit in the past 6 years.

Sen. McCain was sleeping like it was a lazy afternoon at the retirement home. Hardly seemed presidential to fall asleep during the State of the Union Address. I question not only how bad he wants to be President but also, is he physically capable of handling the pressures of long work days and jet lag. Maybe he can stay alert by popping some more amphetamines like he used to in his flying days
Posted by: john | February 12, 2007 11:57 AM
BC, that's actually the national debt, not the deficit. The deficit is the annual shortfall between revenue and expenditures. The national debt is the total amount of money that we as a nation owe, some of it to ourselves (e. g., savings bonds). The national debt increases each year by the amount of the deficit, because he country has to borrow to cover the deficit.

Dave,
You can't come in here and diss Boy Wonder, the drones don't like that.
Don't try explaining the deficit/debt thing to them either. That's economics and its hard!

People, try to leave your politics at the door for once. He's got a blackberry down there and he's reading the text of the speech on it. I know you hate the truth when it doesn't affirm your political ideals, but at least give it a thought. Besides, aren't you all the people that say we should tune Bush out, anyway?

Jeff,
Why would he read the speech when Bush is the same room giving the speech!? What is the matter w/ McCains hearing? What other faculties have diminished on his aging body?

Eh, i'm not too sure about this Obama.
