Here's an interesting Item I picked up from the Chicago Area's only Public Radio station, WDCB (College of DuPage):

Some wonks at UI Champagne figured this out.

The average American weighs 24 lbs more today than s/he did in 1960. As a result, automobile engines have to work a bit harder to haul this flab.

If the national average body weight were to be reduced to the 1960 level, it would save one billion gallons of gasoline annually.

Losing this weight would conserve a finite resource, improve our general health and well being, reduce environmental polution and, at current prices, save us about $2.3 billion.

Think about that, boys and girls... now I'm going to get a couple of McGriddle sammiches.

Four days gone by and still no Swamp item about the ruling from The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit (2-1) that said civilian courts no longer have the authority to consider whether the military is illegally holding foreigners (the terrorists being held at our base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba). Pathetic.

Jeff-

Four days running that you've failed to respond to my questioning of your position on this very issue. Pathetic.

I smell an opportunity to legislate weight standards! The fun part would be enforcing it. Perhaps you could get wieghed at the same time you get your emissions test done on your car.

Hey Swamp editors,

This weekend John McCain is going to be speaking to an Evangelical group that believes they have the right to rewrite our kids grade school science books into what they believe is the truth.

It should be interesting, will you please do a post story on it???...thankyou..

no name,

Good idea. Of course, there'd have to be concessions for people like me who are Big Boned.
