A new Marist Poll shows what other early surveys have shown: Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani favored among their party's likely voters in contests for the 2008 presidential nominations.

Yet the WNBC/Marist Poll also shows something new: Clinton holding a slight edge over either of the Republican Party's leading candidates, Giuliani and Sen. John McCain of Arizona.

In a hypothetical matchup, Clinton was the choice of 48 percent of all registered voters surveyed, Giuliani 43 percent. Democrat John Edwards also held a six-point advantage over Giuliani in this survey, with Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois tied with Giuliani. The margin of error in the survey of 839 registered voters in the April 26-May 1 survey is 3.5 percentage points.

In other possible matchups, Clinton drew 47 percent to McCain's 42 percent among registered voters surveyed. Edwards drew a 10-percent advantage over McCain. But McCain held a 46-39 percentage point advantage over Obama in the survey. Read more, and see the Marist Poll with WNBC of New York: Download marist_poll.pdf

Clinton remains "a polarizing figure,'' according to the directors of the Marist Poll, conducted with WNBC and released today at 5 pm CDT. Forty one percent of voters say they will not even consider voting for her, and four in ten feel she is too liberal. Yet similar numbers say they will not consider voting for Giuliani – 39 percent – or McCain – 41 percent.

Among Democrats and independents leaning Democratic in the survey, 35 percent said they support Clinton, 17 percent Obama, 15 Edwards and 9 former Vice President Al Gore.

Among Republicans and independents leaning Republican, 28 percent said they support Giuliani, 18 percent McCain and 13 percent Fred Thompson, the television actor and former senator from Tennessee considering running. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was the choice of 8 percent of the Republicans surveyed, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 7 percent.

The results for party contests carry a larger margin of error, 4.5 percent in the Democratic survey, 5 percent in the Republican.

Hey Brucebot, how about those early poll numbers?

The bad news for Obama's "Swamp" allies is that obama does so poorly against Hillary and, compared to Hillary, against the GOP.

The "Swamp" reporters might indulge in fantasies about St. Barack, but it appears the rest of the Democratic Party isn't buying the media hype.

Is it post time already, or can we let the track dry out from the last sloppy race?

Hillary's race is over. Take a look at France. Segolene Royal was the Socialist great hope and even that leftist country wouldn't elect her.

Hillary doesn't have enough FBI files to get elected in this current world of terrorism. The entire DemoSocialist message is of defeat.

Hillary's DONE.
