Former Rep. Harold Ford Jr. of Tennessee, in Chicago Tuesday for an event sponsored by the Democratic Leadership Council, discounted any comparisons between Ronald Reagan and former Sen. Fred Thompson of Tennessee, a Republican who is reported to be considering a run for the nation’s highest office.

"There must be a lot of uncertainty on that Republican side, for a Hollywood actor who plays a New York prosecutor to be seriously thought of as presidential timber,” he said. “President Reagan was the governor of California, the leader of the conservative movement…The only real comparison is they were both actors.”

I love how the Republic Party keeps clamoring for Fast Freddy Thompson.

I thought Rudy Gigoloiani was their "guy"?

Hollywood Freddy is a b-list actor who looks like a basset hound and never accomplished anything of substance during his stint in Congress.

As Republican President McFlightsuit would say "Bring'em On"!

Ah the gay love affair between the Republic Party and Ronald Reagan continues.

Actually, Thompson might have more on the ball than Raygun.
Ron was no bright bulb, particularly in his last two years in office.
Thought he was an actual combat vet, or something. Nancy had to take over.

For a party that is constantly deriding "liberal" Hollywood, Republicans sure seem attracted to former actors as their standard bearers. Can you imagine the stink Repulbicans would raise if the Democratic party tried to nominate a progressive version of actor Fred Thompson?

It seems that Republicans can't find any actual conservatives anymore -- they can only find candidates who can merely "act" the part.

Maybe Harold Ford, Jr. should spend more time trying to keep his familiy from going to, or getting out of prison.
Run Fred Run!

Based on his quote, I think Junior missed out on the fact that Thompson was a Senator from Tennessee. Which, ironically, is something Junior has never been.

I'm just saying. lol :)
