Bush chief of staff Josh Bolten and outgoing counselor Dan Bartlett advised the president of the Scooter Libby verdict shortly after takeoff from Prague en. route to Germany.
Bush will not be commenting while the sentence is under appeal.
But Dana Perino., deputy press secretary, said: "The president said he felt terrible for the family."
Perino, saying Bush refuses to speculate on any pardon, did say: "He's not going to intervene."

This is going to be an interesting game played by the W. and little Dick administration and Scooter Libby's lawyers.
They will pardon their backroom Neocon buddie Scooter but they can't do it until W. is leaving the Whitehouse because the GOP is already imploding and that would be another nail in their coffin.
Scooters lawyers are going to try to drag butt on this to buy him time.
If there was real justice in this country they'd throw the whole Bush administration into the Fed lockup and throw away the key.

He's going to intervene and pardon. Libby will never see the inside of a jail cell. Although he should. Wouldn't it be a nice welcome for the rest of the Bush administration to have a bitch already there when they all go to prison? Men... even cowardly men, get lonely behind those bars.

Yes, let's wait until the appeal is over and depending on that outcome, we'll see Dubya pardon the Scooter right before Dubya leaves the White House. Even Hollywood couldn't come up with a better scenario.

I can't believe the last line of the opinion of "JohnE" was approved to appear in print. He must seem "politically correct" to your editors. Please put more thought into what is published.

Sure he won't. He also promised to curb CO2 output in the 2000 campaign and it took him about 48hrs in office to renege.

Thanks for making this more accessable. WE are the voices of America. We don't always agree, but thanks for the forum. Some of the people on this board are truly Bush deluded but it IS their right to publicly display their delusions. I will always defend their right to free speech. If only they would defend mine...
Spreading Democracy by murdering someone's family is NOT liberating. It's brutatlity. It's murder. It's unjustified.
Until the people of the US stop cowering in the corners, waiting for the "boogy man" to jump out and get them; this will never stop.
At this point, anyone who believes that this OCCUPATION is for the LIBERATION of the Iraqi people is just simply a coward and a fool for little king georgie.

Get over it Myrna. Its called Free Speech.

The hatred of the of the Bush administration is appalling. By publishing these comments, the Tribune encourages more of the same and is becoming like any "normal" rag.

I am beginning to think that President Bush will not pardon Libby. As long as he stays silent, no one else in the administration really has anything to worry about. While a pardon would be one way to do that, it would be seem as an obvious crass political manuever. Instead, Bush and Cheney could advise Libby that he will be "taken care of" if he is a "stand up guy." (Cue Sopranos theme).
In any event, Libby will have to do some jail time. Based on some of the judge's comments, it looks like Libby will not be allowed to remain free on bail pending his appeal. This means that if Bush wanted to pardon Libby in order to spare him any jail time, he would have to issue the pardon around September, which would be about the same time we will have an analysis of the effectiveness of the "surge" strategy in Iraq. I think the one-two punch of an unsuccessful Iraq surge and a Libby parson would effectively end Republican hopes for 2008.

Mrs. Jesus,
Why are you talking about Iraq when the story is about Mr. Libby? Maybe you should see the good that this President has done instead of always thinking the worst. In case you forgot, your beloved unfaithful President Clinton had quite a few questionable pardons when he got out of office.

Hey, I remember Bill Clinton pointing his finger and saying under oath, I never had sex with that women. (Poor Little Jewish Girl) Cliff

Cliff,
Unfortunatly for you and the other dead enders, BILL CLINTON IS NOT THE PRESIDENT ANYMORE!

But, fortunately for Bill Clinton, he was never prosecuted for his perjury and obstruction of justice.

John K - there are so many reasons to dislike this administration that yes it turns into hate, just as much as they hate gays, blacks and anyone else that isn't a right winger like them.
Jeff - If you have to pick a lie would it be about a stain on a dress or WMD's that weren't there and 3400 troops lives and counting have been lost over????
Ken - there was a crime committed and the fall guy is going to jail.
Finally, I am surprised that this paper is printing middle of the road reviews since they had the audacity to recommend this horrid administration for reelection!!!!!!!

Scooter Libby, prior White House aide and the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Chaney has been found guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice by a federal jury. Scooter Libby lied and got caught. Too bad we haven't caught the rest of the mavericks who have run this country amuck and into an unjust war in Iraq. Bill Clinton was a good President, progressive even though he was a bad boy on the personal side.Bill Clinton still did his job. George Bush doesn't have an excuse for not only being a bad president, but one who never even got it straight about his own supposed Texas National Guard service. He also does not listen to his own people in leadership. So put those facts into your pipes and smoke them facts.

I find it very troublimg that you believe no crime was committed. You believe that just somehow by some accident her name got put out there. It is "fact" she was covert, it's a "fact" she is Wilsons' wife. You know, Wilson who gave the administration trouble on the WMD "story". Then his wife gets outed by several people and its "wink""wink" it wasn't us, and you guys fall for this hook, line, and sinker. Those who follow so blindly are the ones that let the politicians get away with this bull.

Jeff at 3:32 PM- you bring up Clinton's "questionable pardon's" as he left office. No doubt the worst was of Marc Rich.
Do you know who Marc Rich's lawyer was for the pardon process? Why, none other than Scooter Libby!

Why do you point out that Lewinsky was Jewish? WOuld you have made that reference if her last name was Coppola, or Walesa, or Jefferson, or Lee, or Grant. What does her being Jewish have to do with infidelity? Are you a closet nazi?

Impeach Bush for blowing the job!
Posted by: John E | June 5, 2007 10:35 PM
The LEGAL fact is that Bush cannot pardon Libby if Libby does not acknowledge wrong-doing and shows remorse. To do so, Bush would have to jump through hoops and go against his own Justice Dept. But Bush is in such a mix with Justice that he can't afford to make waves right now. Libby won't admit to wrong-doing so long as he is appealing his case. So lock him up and let him sweat it out in the spa until the appeals have run their course. Hopefully for the Republicans this will go on until after the first week of November 2008. Then, no matter who is elected, Libby can feign remorse and Bush can let him out of jail early.

Ken,
Perjury is a crime. Divulging the name of a covert CIA operative is a crime.
So said a federal prosecuter, a grand jury, a criminal jury and a federal judge.
Libby (and others) compromised our national security by outting Plame and smearing Wilson. This Administration is a loathsome, contempable lot who think they know everything and are above the law. And whacko Dubya actually believes he's on a mission from God.

Doogie Zook, as usual you are a clueless Loony Lefty.
You say: "Divulging the name of a covert CIA operative is a crime.
So said a federal prosecuter, a grand jury, a criminal jury and a federal judge."
Earth to Doogie: No one was ever indicted or found guilty of what you allege because it NEVER happened and Ms. Plame was not covert.
Anyway, since it is a known fact that Valerie Plame perjured herself before Congress in March, will there be charges brought against her?
Oh, and Pick-and-Choose LIBune censors, again a Loony Lefty calls Scooter Libby "a bitch." Why was my post noting that CENSORED??? I mean if Scooter Libby is a bitch, LIBune Pick-and-Choose Censors, then what is Hillary?

Little Johnny D...
You need to update your talking points... the CIA recently declassified a few days ago proof that Valerie Plame was covert.

I'm dissappointed... I had assumed your computer auto-downloaded the latest RNC talking points every 15 minutes for you to cut and paste.
