The Swamp

by Frank James

It's a given that Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-Ill.) and her husband are very popular with African-Americans, a popularity that was on display at last night's Democratic debate at Howard University.

Gallup's pollsters have a new survey that indicates just how highly thought of she is among African Americans but Hispanics as well.

According to the poll, 84 percent of blacks rated her favorably while only 10 percent viewed her negatively. That compared with 68 percent of blacks who view Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) positively and eight percent unfavorably.

Gallup's report had this amusing explanation of Clinton's strength with black voters:

Due to his strong support in the African-American community, some have cleverly referred to former President Bill Clinton as America's "first black president." Blacks also view his wife Hillary Clinton positively, with 84% rating her favorably and only 10% unfavorably.

Blacks also have positive views of Obama, who is seeking to become the first official black president.

So does that make the former president the first black president, unofficially?

Clinton also had a 63 percent favorable rating with Hispanics, the only candidate of those tested on respondents who was substantially above 50 percent.

When it came to non-Hispanic whites however, Clinton's popularity ratings tumbled, with only a 41 percent favorable rating from that group.

Republican Rudy Giuliani fared the best with that group, with the former New York City mayor getting a 64 percent favorable rating versus a 27 percent unfavorable rating.

Obama came in second at 53 percent. Clinton's 41 percent put her in sixth place with whites in terms of perceptions.

CONGRATULATIONS REPUBLICANS!!

Here's proof that your troop surge in Iraq is "working'?

JUNE 28, 2007

100 US TROOP DEATHS IN IRAQ SO FAR THIS MONTH

*third straight month of at least 100 US troop deaths in Iraq*

Well then I don't blame her for the shameless pandering.

It obviously works.

Isn't this where the proud republican Paulo inserts one of his fried chicken comments?

Way to support the troops John E.

Yo Dumbo John E., since your weird friends complain when I comment off topic, this is about the Queen B and her sexual deviant husband, not Iraq.

In that regard, what did Clintoon do to become the "first black president?" COuld it be more media brainwashing?

Irrelevant to the Supreme Court, but relevant in the voting booth. Thanks GOP!

John E- careful- you might be mistaken for someone that is happy about the deaths of these soldiers. ....not too creepy!

What this poll boils down to is a name ID poll. The math also says 6% are undecided about Hillary and 24% are undecided on Obama.

I predict that undecideds will eventually go Obama and when the second tier candidates start dropping out most of those supporters will head for the Obama camp.

That said, most Americans (D or R) still aren't paying that much attention to the presidential race. Most people (not us junkies) won't start paying attention until October or so after summer is over and the kids are back in school.

NBC has done a poll and has some numbers for Hillary that aren't so good:

"According to a new Mason-Dixon survey, given exclusively to NBC/MSNBC and McClatchy newspapers, Clinton is the only major presidential candidate -- either Democrat and Republican -- for whom a majority of likely general election voters say they would not consider voting. In addition, she's the only candidate who registers with a net-unfavorable rating.

In the poll, 48% say they would consider voting for Clinton versus 52% who say they wouldn't. By comparison, majorities signal they would consider voting for all other major presidential candidates or possible candidates: Giuliani (64%-36%), Fred Thompson (62%-38%), Bloomberg (61%-39%), Obama (60%-40%), Edwards (59%-41%), McCain (58%-42%), Biden (57%-43%), Richardson (57%-43%), Huckabee (56%-44%), and Romney (54%-46%)."

The Clinton popularity among Blacks (some Blacks) stems from the affinity they had for Bill Clinton and his roots in the South. You see, it's like this. White people cannot stand poor people. Simple as that. Bill Clinton was perceived as (poor white trash) by Whites. The idea of his becoming president was adhorrent to most Whites. Try to put your mind around that and it will be clear. Conservatives, Republicans, Redneckists all believe people should be put in their place when they try to be uppity. That is why Clinton was looked down upon, except by Black people, who felt that he knew was like to be a (N word). They could relate to him and he could relate to them. When he went to the Great WASP Hive in DC, Clinton attained a height that no other lowly born person in this country reached. White people hated that. So what was good for the goose is good for the gander, although I think among WASPS Hillary is more accepted because she is one of them. Blacks think Hillary is going to be supportive of their interests. NOT!

1. sexual deviant

Sexual behavior that diverges from the norm.

Sorry to hear you have such a limited sex life.

Hilary's forces have been setting Senator Obama up for a loss for some time.

Chicago Sun Times' Lynn Sweet is sour on Obama and Mary Mitchell has spoken!

GW,

Now that you've straightened that out it's time to correct those glitches on the space station. Have a nice flight.

100 US TROOP DEATHS IN IRAQ SO FAR THIS MONTH john e.

Way to support the troops John E. jd

Support is approving more and more dead? You're a hypocrite John (yes,DEAR, we know that's you). Can't you get a job at Wal-Mart as a greeter and get off this board. Maybe Wal-Mart would let you read a book while you're standing there looking stupid.

Of course she has a great rating...her husband was the first black president, wasn't he?
And,as far as Barack "Hussein" Obama goes...well,his name says it all...a man with a Muslim name(schooled at a Madrassa?)and trying to run for the presidency in this time of war is a shame!
We're under attack here,in The U.K. and all over the world by Muslims.....right?
Duuuhhhhh.....

Paulo

GW:

I can't think of a time when anyone wrote so much in so little space, all of which was entirely untrue - as you just did in explaining Hillary's popularity.

The whole thing is really simple to understand. Black people like Hillary because they trust her. They believe she has their best interests at heart, just like they believed her husband did. Trust means everything to them when it comes to politics – and there’s nothing wrong with that. And that is all there is to it.

As for the rest:

1. White folk don't hate poor people. The fear being poor, but they don't hate poor people. There are more poor, white folk than there are poor among any other single ethnic group in the U.S.; and poor white Americans don't hate themselves in general.

2. Bill Clinton was not perceived as “poor white trash” by whites. No Rhodes Scholar with an ivy league education, who has served as Attorney General and Governor of a State, is viewed as poor white trash. Contrary to what you think, a person’s former socio-economic state does not follow him or her for the rest of his/her life. This is true even though Bill Clinton still pronounces the word “school” as “skewl.”

3. Bill Clinton’s presidency was not abhorrent to whites – for the reasons given in 1 & 2, above. I’m white and I voted for Bill Clinton. His former socio-economic status was entirely unknown to me. I voted for him because Daddy Bush was flat, the economy was flat, we were being taxed more, and I couldn’t stand the idea that Vice President Rain-Man would be a heartbeat away from the presidency for four more years.

4. Conservatives and Republicans do not believe “uppity” people should be put in their place. Rednecks may believe this, but who cares what Rednecks think.

5. Clinton was not looked down by everyone except black people. If Bill Clinton did not have a substantial following among whites and Hispanics as well, his support among black people would not have given him the White House. See also points 1-4, above.

- and,

6. Clinton was neither the only lowly born person to reach the office of the President, nor hated for his rise to that office. Abraham Lincoln (you know, of “Land of Lincoln” fame), was born in more impoverished circumstances than Bill Clinton. Presidents James Garfield, Andrew Johnson, and Millard Fillmore, to name a few, also grew up in severe poverty. See points 1-5 for the rest.

Paulo,

The only shame here sport is you.

Your fixation on "Hussein" is pathetic. You give freedom of speech a bad name.

With a name of Paulo...are you against muslim sounding names or does foreign names (Paulo)scare you?

"Sexual behavior that diverges from the norm.

Bill R.
I hope you and the naive woman 20 years younger than you that works at your place of employment for free, have a wonderful life together with your current wife and child.

Maybe you could have Woody Allen and Soon Li over for dinner.

You know, normal America that we should all aspire to.

Bill R.
I hope you and the naive woman 20 years younger than you that works at your place of employment for free, have a wonderful life together with your current wife and child.

20 years my younger would make her almost 40 years old. If she didn't know better by then...she never will. I know there are very few men out there that have "fooled" with a younger woman. Is there?
This is a study on the percentage of men and woman that cheat on each other. Not that I say that makes it right...just that it makes it pretty hard not to be hypocritical.
The most amazing thing about the studies is that the majority of infidelity victims (70% of married women and 54% of married men) have no idea their spouse is having an extramarital affair.

In another study, 60% of the people who admitted that they were cheating, said their partner did not know about their affair.

Will you be the first to cast a stone?

JD,

Make room for Rudi and Newt and...

Paulo:

Still trying to promote the "madrassa" smear FOUR MONTHS after it has been proven to be COMPLETELY FALSE!

Man, what a truly desperate Republican supporter you are. I challenged you to provide proof that the story came from the Hillary presidential campaign staff, which you alleged, multiple times, and you HAVE NEVER PROVIDED ANY SUBSTANTIATION for that claim. Why is that, Paulo? Is it just too hard for you to admit that you're promoting a lie?
