Congress's dismal approval ratings can be traced to its abject failure in forcing the Cheney (I mean Bush) administration to get US combat troops our of Iraq. This was the linchpin issue that vaulted the Democrats into a majority in the 2006 elections. When Congress stands up to Cheney/Rove/Bush and gets the troops home, you'll see Congress's approval ratings rebound significantly.

The immigration bill certainly is not helping Congress. The liberalpress tells us that the bill has broad public support but Pelosi says she will not bring it up in the House unless she has a significant amount of cover from Republicans. That shows you how popular she really thinks it is. She (wisely) does not want it to be called a Democratic bill.

I couldn't resist chiming in as this has been my favorite Swamp topic. For months I've been telling everyone that the Democrats really haven't lived up to their campaign rhetoric. It looks like people have finally noticed.

Rasmussen poll says better than 70 percent against the Kennedy-McCain Illegal Immigration Bill. The breakdown is this: 84 percent Republicans against it, 69 percent independents against it and 55 percent of Democrats are against it!
That is why both Bush and Congress's numbers have gone done in recent weeks.
But I do want the Democrats in Congress to continue pulling their shenanigans and investigations. The public will vote most of them out in 08.

With Bush in the white house, congress will never be able to do anything. We need to eliminate the problem from the top.

Yup, it has just shown the public that when it comes to government its either all talk and no action, or no talk and all action. Were never on the same page , and the pages were on put media fueled party line rhetoric before facts.

This is a confusing and misleading poll. Congress has been controlled by the Democrats for 6 months and has such a low rating, despite trying to get some key legislation passed such as stem cell research, hike in minimum wage, legislation to require negotiated drug prices, etc. Most importantantly the Congress began to oversee a runaway executive branch. So how do the Republican controlled congress have higher poll ratings for the 6 years that they did nothing? Maybe the people responding to the poll prefer a congress that is mute and interested only in Terri Schivo cases, and rubber stamping the President wishes.

I'm disappointed but not surprised Congress hasn't been able to do much. They don't have a veto-proof majority and the Republics and Bush have done nothing except dig in their heels and not allow anything to get done.
