On the contrary, I have rarely seen such unity and such energy in the Republican Party. EVERY Republican outside the beltway seems to be against this bill and very strenuously against it.

I don't hear much from the Democrats about it. Are the Democrats for or against it?

GOPAC, Newt's longtime political action committee, was the centerpiece of a complex network of non-profit, and mostly tax exempt organizations that Newt has used to support himself and other conservative candidates. In an act of incredible hypocrisy, this crusader against taxes obtained taxpayer subsidies for his personal and political goals, by misusuing these tax-exempt groups.

Corporate reward:
According to the Wall Street Journal, a company hired Marianne Gingrich (Newt's wife) after he announced support for a free trade zone in Israel that they are trying to build. Her "job" for Israel Export Development Co. is to find tenants for the trade zone.

Adultery:
Several newspapers are now reporting that Newt Gingrich is dating and basically living with Callista Bisek, a "willowy blond Congressional aide 23 years his junior." Bisek, 33, has been spending nights at Gingrich's apartment near the Capitol and has her own key. In an amazing act of hypocrisy, Gingrich was apparently dating Bisek all during Clinton-Lewinsky adultery scandal, even as he proclaimed family values and bitterly criticized the President for his adultery.

anyway, my main feeling is that no one be paid less than the minimum wage... citizen or other...

the minimum wage is some broad compromise on what constitutes 'dignity'... why we wouldn't offer the same in courtesy to our guests is beyond me...

I will try to put it in terms even you might understand. newt has demonstrated a complete lack of integrity across the board so he has no credibility. When people with no credibility make statements, they don't mean much to me. That is probably a foreign concept to the current repugnicans as integrity itself seems to be a foreign concept to them.

The last I checked, Clinton wasn't making any ads about the immigration bill.

Did you see the recent item where we deported a mentally disabled American citizen of Mexican descent? He is now missing in Mexico and his family is frantic. All of the pinhead authorities responsible say they did nothing wrong. Disregard for individual rights for the supposed "good of the state" is a keystone of fascism.

If you extremist nuts ever do take over (which I doubt) I will be one of the first "insurgents".

Personally, I say open the border, provide no government benefits to non-citizens and let the market sort it out.

Looking at the cost of the nutty enforcement programs proposed so far, it would be cheaper to meet everyone at the border and pay them to turn around.

Instead of arguing about whether the Democrats are "For or Against" the bill, maybe you should read it and tell your congress person what you think. They work for US, not the other way around. Interesting disconnect here. Some are engaged in rank partisanship (Bill H and C Perry), and only consider the political advantage to be gained by supporting or opposing the bill. Some (Frank) think that all who oppose the bill have one reason, and that reason is opposition to amnesty for illegals...period. Odd, that. I have heard any number of differing objections to the legislation, but the single recurring theme seems to be that conservatives know the Senators are lying. Put me in this box.

The Bush Admin refuses to this very instant to enforce the border, while assuring us that spending another $4.4 billion will magically change their posture. We have now endured 21 years of remarkably consistent inaction by the Feds on border enforcement. No words in the English language -- I don't speak Spanish yet -- could convince us that suddenly, by the power of this new bill, that's going to change. Why would it?

If they stop illegal immigration, in fact, then I believe most of the opposition to this bill, as it relates to those who are here illegally, will cease.

Frank, you are being disingenuous when you take the open borders position and claim all-knowing power for the opposition.

I believe in illegal immigration. It must be true, I read about it all the time. The debate, as far as I am concerned, should be limited to:
1 How does this situation impact our country.

To weigh in on the immigration debate Newt associated islamic terrorists with mexican gangs. Mr. Gingrich is serving us another plate of paper tiger. I think it is rather ironic that we are trying to stamp out terrorism across the globe but we still use it instinctively right here in the heart of freedomland, as a primary political tool, freely and without consequence, to the detriment of our own citizens. It seems our politicians are more interested in monopolizing terrorism than defeating it.

Now that we have found the link between mexico and terrorism maybe we should round up all the Mexicans and turn our closed military bases into modern day concentration camps.
I bet we would all feel safer if the guy picking our tomatos was within scope range of a tower gaurd.

When my grandparents came over here, no one subscribed to a nonsensical idea like that. Immigrants were expected to learn English.

i've been in hundreds of pizza places, and have never seen one which didn't have an italian flag displayed somewhere... and god bless them for it, it's their heritage...

i'm trying to imagine some woman coming into one of those pizza places and tearing an italalian flag off the wall and throwing it outside...

Immigrants know that if you can't speak English you can't be successful in America. Having the government legislate what language you are allowed to speak and read is not freedom. It is the opposite. It is oppression, pure and simple. You folks have had courts tell you that you cannot discriminate and oppress because of race, relgion, or sex and now your last clinging hope to oppress some peoples is language. This has nothing to do with illegal immigration. Your friends and you hate Hispanics. You want to exclude them from American activities unless they speak and understand English as well as native born Americans. These are not so much English only laws as they are Anti-Hispanic laws.

During the surge of Italian immigration at the start of the last century, before there were TV stations, most major cities had Italian langauge newspapers, along with German newspapers and a host of other non-english papers. Some still exist. If television had existed then, you can sure bet there would have been Italian TV stations, phone messages and instructions.

Ever been to Chinatown Johnny? Are you offended by all the signs in Chinese? Are you offended by the Chinese newspapers?
