With ten Republican candidates in town for tonight's debate, it might have been inevitable. Moments after Sen. John McCain arrived at Blake's Restaurant in New Hampshire, one of his rivals, Rep. Tom Tancredo, walked in the door.
The two hold diametrically opposing positions on immigration, the hot issue of the moment in the campaign.
Tancredo's hard-line anti-immigrant stance has made him the closest thing to a single-issue candidate in the GOP field. McCain is a leader in the effort to win Senate approval of an immigration overhaul plan that has split the party.
"This is a coincidence. We're not following anyone," said Tancredo's campaign manager, Bay Buchanan, sister of Pat Buchanan. "We just want to eat. But we have this 'No Amnesty' pledge we want him to sign. Maybe it'll upset his lunch."
The two dined in separate parts of the restaurant. But Tancredo had a waitress bring a dish over to McCain's table: an order of nachos.

Could the writer of the article/s please start using correct language.
No-one is opposing immigration.
People are opposing "ILLEGAL immigration".
thank you

Actually, PG, Tancredo and other have stated they want a "cooling-off period" to LEGAL immigration as well.

I love it!

Stay out of Mexico and the Mexicans will stay out of the U.S.
It's really that simple.
But the U.S. continues to insists that it has "national interests" in Mexico, in effect adopting Mexico and its citizens. This, by extension, gives Mexicans a right to enter the U.S.
It's like the "pottery barn rule" that Colin Powell stated. If you break it (or mix-it up), you own it.
Our continued interference in Mexican politics, deciding who Mexicans can't elect and who they can, gives Mexican nationals every right to be here.

Jake,
I was responding to the article.
Is this an immigration bill, yes.
Is it aimed at illegal aliens, yes.
Do you trust Washington Politicians? I don't.
We're finding out more and more about this bill and you can see why it was written in secrecy.
I just hope the people keep letting Washington know, what they think about this illegal alien bill.
And that goes for all Political Parties.

I guess I agree more with McCain's ideas on this than I do with Tancredo, but I lost respect for McCain a while back too. Nevertheless, that is funny, even if a bit petty. A clever dig without being publicly obnoxious or hurting himself. You gotta give him credit for that. Love to see 'em going at it, but not sure it does any of their base any good. It's just us average guys and gals that get the true benefit of it.

You would think that reasonable men could write a bill that would benefit our country and provide a means to include the deserving of the twelve million illegal aliens in our country. Perhaps we are too involved in the 2008 election to handle this problem. Time will solve this problem as more states will have a large voting minority that will need to be considered. The number of Latin congressmen and senators will increase. At least
ten states will hang on what the Latin voters want. Census figures tell the story.

Tancredo is an embarassment to the people of Colorado. Plain and simple; he is a racist. He and McCain are both jokes. This is what the Republican party is trotting out as "viable" candidates? Guiliani was despised by the people of his OWN city for having Mafia ties. You don't get elected mayor to the biggest city in America without them. He's trash. Romney is a corporate billionaire kiss ass whom you people seem to hate simply because he's a Mormon. NOT because he's another billionaire that will lie to you and lead you down the rosey path of war. Ha! Ha! What does that leave you with? Fred Thompson? President Fred? That will play well in Europre. Thompson: a bad actor playing an ass on TV. Give us all a break! Go away. You don't have ONE viable candidate. Run Scooter... or KKKarl. Ha! Ha! Ha! Watching the Neo-Con Idiots fall apart is PRICELESS! Keep it up.

McCain should have sent back some oysters for Tancredo.

Please don't listen to my wife, Mrs. Jesus. She's been off her meds for quite a while and even the angels can get her to take them.
Of course when your top candidates are all rated on the liberal fringe the rest of the world seems like a conspiracy of moderate extremists.
As an independent I always get a good laugh from people condemning a slate of wide ranging candidates way before an election.
Of course the only thing moderate in the voting records of Obama, Shrillary and Edwards is if Stalin or Mao came back to make their reasonable comments on the evils of private ownership of a home, clothes, etc.
Tancredo did the nation a huge favor today. Maybe, just maybe the voice of the vast majority of Americans, Democrats, Republicans, Independents will finally be heard and respected.
No to Shamnesty. Enforce the law, uphold the Constitution. Then let's talk.
