New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is the clear Democratic favorite to win her party's nomination in three key 2008 swing states, according to a new Quinnipiac University Swing State Poll taken June 18 to 25 in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania and released today.

But the Democrats could have a rougher time in the general election in each of the three states, which since 1964 have largely determined the outcome of the general election. Clinton would tie Republican frontrunner Rudolph Giuliani in Pennsylvania and Ohio, but lose to him by six percentage points in Florida.

On the other hand, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, who trails Clinton among Democrats in the three states, would lost a general election fight to Giuliani, the former New York City mayor, by 8 in Florida, by 2 in Ohio and by 1 in Pennsylvania.

Giuliani's support has slipped somewhat since the last Quinnipiac poll, while Clinton's support has been "as steady as reliable as a Swiss watch. Her lead and support remain rock solid among the Democrats in those key states," said poll analyst Peter Brown.

Dodd continues to lag all the Democrats. In Florida, he tied Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich with 1 percent, far behind Clinton's 38 percent and Obama's 15 percent. In Ohio, Kucinich's home state, Dodd did not even reach 1 percent--he's a dash--while Clinton has a commanding lead with 40 percent.

Clinton also tops everyone in Pennsylvania, with 32 percent; Dodd got 1 percent. Among Republicans, Giuliani leads in Florida with 27 percent, but still-undeclared candidate Fred Thompson, the former Tennessee senator, is close behind at 21 percent, while Arizona Sen. John McCain is a distant third. In Ohio and Pennsylvania, the former mayor also leads, but Thompson has moved into second place.

What David Lightman didn't quote from the poll: “In these three swing states, Sen. Obama is way behind Sen. Clinton among Democrats and shows no sign of closing the gap in two of them.."

What David Lightman also left out--the Republican race (this is the "Swamp", after all, the DNC billboard , not a look at politics of both parties). On the GOP side, Giuliani is still leading, McCain is in freefall and Thompson is showing strong: “Giuliani’s lead among Republicans continues to dwindle. Perhaps his much-discussed difference with the GOP mainstream over issues such as abortion, gay rights and gun control are beginning to take its toll.
“The Fred Thompson express continues to roll. He has passed Sen. John McCain for second place in the Republican field in Florida and Ohio, and caught McCain in Pennsylvania.”

Ok, David Lightman is from Connecticut. I understand that. But Dudd has been at 1 percent from the get-go. Can you please stop giving us all this stuff on Chris Dudd?? He's NOT going anywehere!!!

"He's NOT going anywehere!!!"

Neither is anyone with an 'R' behind their name.

Uhh, Bruce, try reading the actual post next time.

It does state that Obama is behind Clinton. It also talks about Guiliani's slipping lead and Fred Thompson's rise.

I take my one comment back. The only place Chris Dudd may go would be a sequel to his waitress sandwich with Ted Kennedy.

Oh my, the thought of that puts any horror movie to shame!

Remember, beware the Ides of Hillary. She is the worst of the possible people trying to buy the Presidency. She will be bad for the country, I guarantee.

I see we have the usual RNC trolls (Bruce Jane D) on this thread, all fired up and ready to attack the messenger again.

Hillary has done an outstanding job in the debates, I've also been impressed with Hill's grasp of the issues and her take charge attitude.

You Go Girl!

Johnny D's bizarre fixation with the sex lives of democratic politicians comes to light again. I wonder if his wife is disturbed by how much time he spends thinking about Clinton and Kennedy having sex?

Rob S.,

What ideas (pick one) of Hillary's is so bad for the country?

Hillary "...will be bad for the country, I guarantee."

How could anyone be worse than the current inhabitant?

Like fish in a barrel.

Next.

john E--

we finally disagree... tho i would OBVIOUSLY vote for hilary if she ends up the democratic nominee...

i'm hardly thrilled with her, like her husband...

to me they are moderate republicans, DNC centrist/rightwingers in sheep's clothing...

pro-nafta, pro-corporate, etc...

compared to the alternative at this time in america, blatant fascism, i'll take whatever the democrats manage to muster up...

however, while this wouldn't be much better, i'm beginning to imagine a gore/obama ticket being very powerful...

for one thing, obama does have the charisma thing, but, imho, he doesn't have the experience to head a ticket... but after 8 years as gore's vp, he would be well seasoned for the job, still young, and still charismatic...

the rpugs know this and dread the thought like the plague...

i especially like obama's wife... honestly obama is a little dubious to me, but his choice of a true black woman as a wife shows where he is really at, and it gives me more faith in him...

again, whatever they may say here to me, the right wingers will go absolutely crazy at the notion of a true black woman as 1st lady... which is exactly what we will have in 8 years if gore enters the ring and names obama as his #2...

and it is so overdue, after the self-hatred of the kindasleezy rices, and the clarence 'torquemada' thomas'...

"...honestly obama is a little dubious to me, but his choice of a true black woman as a wife shows where he is really at, and it gives me more faith in him..."

Hmmm. Typically, I don't engage like this but this black man just can't resist askin':

Seth, what's "a true black woman"? As opposed to what? An untrue black woman? A true or untrue non-black woman? And why does that give you more faith in him? That he will do what?

And are you finding him dubious because you don't find him black enough, since that seems to be the context?

D.Z.
It is not her ideas that worry me. It is her motives. I do not now, or ever felt that her main priority is the people of this country. It has more to do with ego, redemption, greed, and showing up her mate.
wienerdog...
I never said she would be better, worse or indifferent than the current humanoid. I have said many, many times that I do not feel that are few, if any, politicians who act for the people that elected them. We, the voters are simply pawns, bought and sold by our "leaders" to help them maintain their power and wealth. No, Hillary would be no worse than Bush. But this is the same logic that says being shot is no worse tham being stabbed.

LiL' Johnny SkinHead,

It should be obvious to anyone with half a brain (not you) that I DO NOT want another Republican elected in 08, our country has already been down that road and it's a "dead-end".

Biggdawg--

Fair enough-- I 'should' have been more specific... feel free to pounce on me for this but here is what i really think...

in MY mind a 'true' black woman, is a woman with respect for hereself, and respect for the legacy of those black folks who have come before her... i'm not black (in case u didn't know), so here i am out on a limb, but i think condaleeza rice, brilliant tho she is, is a filthy lying sack of crap that has no repsect for her own people, and none for herself as well (let alone anyone else)... i equate bush with evil and all those who associate with him as evil...

that's me... this isn't about skin tone, in my mind (to the extent i can have an opinion on these things) thurgood marshall was a million times better man than clarence thomas... and in fact i think the decision to pick thomas, tho while obviously directly served their deliberate political ends, was also meant as a direct insult to 'black america', and to have him replace marshall was so much more the insult... it was piss in the black communities eye... again, i'm not in the community, but i can tell piss going in someones eye when i see it...

obama-- again nothing about skin tone, he just seems alittle too close to the hilary/emmanuel/dnc centrist part of the democratic party for my taste...

back to obamas wife... i've heard her speak, she seems like a strong woman who's heart is in the right place... i don't expect her to be a radical, but i got the impression i would have been prouder of her as a first lady than any since elanor roosevelt...

and yes, to an extent i judge a man by his choice of wife... she impressed me, and some of that positivity rubbed off on my impression of him...

--Grind the GOP into Dust in '08!--

I have NO IDEA who these people are polling. I just got off a conference call with several (25) people in 7 different states. When the conversation turn (at the end) to the democratic race, Not only did NO one plan to vote for Hillary no one knew anyone who would in the primary or the general. We are all democrats and half were African American. Again, where are they getting these people.

Rob S.,

Oops. You wrote "Ides" of Hillary.

Now this is the Loony Johnny E that I have come to know:

LiL' Johnny SkinHead,

I knew somewhere I would find your usual drivel.

John E:

"You go girl" . . . in reference to Hillary? Spare me!

You know that, to me, a choice between Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama would be about as fun as choosing between roasted kitten and stir-fried puppy. All the same, if forced to make that choice, I would vote for Barak Obama in a heartbeat. He, at least, hasn't fully embraced European continental socialism like Hillary, and he still has some respect for individuals against the government and businesses. That is much more comforting than Hillary's spiel about exchanging a society in which the individual can thrive for “shared responsibility for shared prosperity,” in which the government hands out a longer laundry list of gimmes and plunder.

I am not an ant in Hillary’s ant farm.

“I am not an animal! I am a man . . . a man.” - J. Merrick.

Hillary kicks neo-con butt!

the one thing that i do truly love hilary for is this...

if, somehow, she were to be elected president of the united states... there would be rampant coronaries and strokes all thru the right wing population...

and for that i think we can all be thankful...
