With a reminder:

You read about this story first on the front page of the Chicago Tribune, in April 2006.

Today, with other leading newspapers finally catching on to the story, thanks to the publicity that Rep. Henry Waxman has given it this week, the operative joke around Washington is that there really are four branches of government -- the executive, the judiciary, the legislative, and Dick Cheney's office.

With the CIA now releasing papers which show us that we cannot trust our government to obey the laws of America, or the world, the promise we need to demand from our next administration is that they will obey the law.

If there is any justice left in this country whatsoever, little Dick and the rest of the gang that can't shot straight in the WH will spend their golden years in orange prison jumpsuits.

San Miguel,

Agreed. However, we need to demand that the current administration follows the law, NOW! If they don't, we (Congress) need to act on it. This country can not wait 1 1/2 years to act. This administration has given us a laundry list of illegal acts to work from, with Cheney leading the list.

Precedent looms large in our laws.

If we try to wait out TeamBush without a legal whimper to be heard, his methods will become accepted as normal by the following administration, regardless of party affiliation.

By refusing to follow the law and adhere to the requriements of the Constitution, VP Cheney - Chimpy McFlightsuit's puppeteer - continues to give the finger to the American people.

Just one more reason that chimpy mcflighsuit's poll numbers are even lower than Jimmy Carter's ever were, and are approaching ShiftyDick. Why are the most scurrilous men in American history always republitards?

The Bush administration has spent the last 7 years lying about, re-defining, and defending an imaginary definition of "executive privilege". Now all of a sudden, under a watchful eye, the Cheney office is now "unclassifiable".

Everything done in the dark, will come out in the light.

Since the OVP is apart of the legislative branch Mr. Cheney can no longer invoke the executive priviledge that would be aforded him as being apart of the Executive Office. So I would expect to see Mr. Cheney called to testify before a number of Senate hearings, and not be able to dodge the call. You can't have it both ways Mr. Vice President.

Look Dems Vice president Cheney is an elected official why do you continue to mislead people about him.As an elected official and the official successor to the President. The president's executive orders do not apply to him. And no H. Foley he won't be going to any Senate hearings he votes to break ties in the Senate just like your beloved Al"I hate fossil fuels and global warming"Gore did. He has a separate constitutional office inside the Executive Branch. There always has been a separation of powers and yes the Executive Branch could hold it's own hearings and investigations. The Senate is not all powerful they can't even approprate money only the House of Representatives can. Jerry White, Springfield, IL

From the Daily KOS:

Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel issued the following statement regarding his amendment to cut funding for the Office of the Vice President from the bill that funds the executive branch. The legislation – the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations bill -- will be considered on the floor of the House of Representatives next week.

"The Vice President has a choice to make. If he believes his legal case, his office has no business being funded as part of the executive branch. However, if he demands executive branch funding he cannot ignore executive branch rules. At the very least, the Vice President should be consistent. This amendment will ensure that the Vice President's funding is consistent with his legal arguments. I have worked closely with my colleagues on this amendment and will continue to pursue this measure in the coming days."

Hpoing Cheney will see the light...

Jerry White, Springfield,IL

Jerry White-

First of all, you need to learn how to write cohesive, clear sentences. If you can't manage to accomplish this simple task, YOU should stop posting.

Secondly, Cheney is in the wrong here no matter what your political leanings. He IS a member of the executive branch whether he likes it or not and he has to play by the rules like anyone else. If he doesn't like the rules, he needs to find another job.

It’s Time for America’s First Great Political “Laugh-In”

Obviously the people of the United States have been going about being heard by their government the wrong way. I understand and sympathies with the Democrats position on impeachment. They are unlikely to get the backing of sitting GOP members of the House and Senate, so why bother with something that is doomed to failure?

I’d like to propose something that just might work. I’d like to propose “The Great Laugh-In March On Washington”. It makes no sense getting mad at these guys. It just sort of energizes them. But the sight of thousands of buses and millions of citizens in the streets of Washington D.C., laughing at them might just let members of all the branches in government know that the jig is up.

Of course the laughing electorate cannot stop their laughing until 43 and Dick exit the White House with baggage in hand. And then it should also move down to K- Street and move a few bodies from there as well.

Mirthfulness will have a double impact. First it will offer “some” protection that the hoses won’t be turned on the crowd. Secondly, it will offer proof positive that the electorate no longer takes the government seriously. Who knows, 43 and Dick might just take the hint.

May I suggest that you do this before they issue an executive order banning laughter in the streets of Washington or bomb Iran?

Mr. White, are you nuts?
There is only one reason for Cheney to refuse to allow transparency and it ain't because he's a patriot. For all you know, Cheney has an exclusive deal with Iraq to take control of Iran's oil fields.
