Scott Stanzel, a spokesman for the White House, said today that President Bush's colonoscopy at Camp David this morning found five small polyps which were removed and sent for a routine examination at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda.
"None appeared worrisome,'' said Stanzel -- and Bush was "in good humor.''
The transfer of the powers of the presidency -- with Bush handing authority over to Vice President Dick Cheney during the procedure -- lasted from 7:16 am EDT to 9:21 am EDT.
See the statement from the White House spokesman:
Deputy Press Secretary Scott Stanzel's statement:
"President Bush this morning underwent routine surveillance colonoscopy at Camp David. During the exam, five small polyps were identified and removed. All were less than 1 cm and none appeared worrisome. All were sent for routine microscopic examination to the National Naval Medical Center at Bethesda. Results are expected in 48 to 72 hours and will determine the final diagnosis and recommendations for future examinations.
At 7:16 a.m. (EDT), notification was sent advising of the temporary transfer of power of the Presidency to Vice President Dick Cheney in accordance with Section 3 of the 25th Amendment of the Constitution. The procedure was concluded at 7:44 a.m. The power of the Presidency was returned to President Bush at 9:21 a.m.
The President was in good humor and will resume his normal activities at Camp David.''

Comments
For anyone who has had or known someone who has had colon cancer, it is unquestionable that the president, as did Katie Couric, performed a highly laudable service in publicizing their colonoscopies. Everyone from middle age on should have one at least every five years. Thank you to both of them for taking an extremely private matter and doing a valuable public health service.

"Conservatives supported slavery, conservatives opposed women's suffrage, conservatives supported Jim Crow, conservatives opposed the 40 hr work week and the abolishment of child labor, and conservatives supported McCarthyism. In short, all the major advancements of freedom and justice in our history were pushed by liberals and opposed by conservatives, no matter the party they inhabited at the time.
Conservatism is Bill Bennet lecturing you about self-denial, then rushing off to feed his slot habit at the casino. It's James Dobson telling you that children need regular beatings to stay in line. It's a superannuated nun rapping you on the knuckles so you won't dirty your pants. It's Jerry Falwell watching "Teletubbies" frame by frame to see if Tinky Winky is trying to turn him gay....in short, Conservatism is everyone you never wanted to grow up to be".
-Paul Waldman - Senior fellow at Media Matters-
"I never meant to say that the Conservatives are generally stupid. I meant to say that stupid people are generally Conservatives".
-John Stuart Mill-1866-British philosopher, Political economist and Member of Parliament-
"Nasa has achieved great success over the years, they've put man on the moon and the shuttle program has been spectacular, yet they have still failed to put a man on Condoleezza Rice"

Yes, no worrisome pains for the Decider. He's in good humor. When is the last time you talked to someone who lost a loved one in Iraq because of your idiocy, Mr. Good Humor? I'm surprised they didn't find your head up there. Too bad they didn't so that they could have removed that, as well. Not that it has contributed anything to this country thus far.

Did they find any weapons of mass destruction in there?

I see tolerance by the liberal crowd is only in the talk. The liberals have proven that they can not practice what they preach. This is one of the reasons I do not trust your crowd. Talking about bigots, look closer in what you say and do. John Crow Laws passed because of the Democrat Party in the South. It was the Southern Democrat Party that split the union in the 1860's. It was the Southern Democrat Party that supported Slavery. It was the Southern Democrat Party that enacted the Poll Taxes.
When you start to finger something the Republican Party has do, the Democrat Party has done also, and worse.
As for President Bush letting it be known that he was undergoing this procedure rather than hide like Stoger helps others to get this important check up.
I just wonder what other things Stroger has been hiding!

Please don't forget that "conservatives" are by definition those who want less government. The issue is getting confused with neocons who are for huger government. "Conservative" is the root of conservation and smart ecological ideas. To conserve is to save - therefore having a national deficit is not a conservative thing. But the phony conservatives are driving up debt and calling for more governmental intrusion into your privacy and your private lives. Get it right. Conservative is not a bad word and we could use a lot more of it.

More stupid nonsense from John E.
Here are some things about liberals"
1. Keeping black people on welfare with no hope of a better life.
2. When minorities do attain a better life, slam em for bettering themselves.
3. Liberals support NAMBLA and all forms of child rape and abuse.
4. Liberals support cruelty to animals as evidenced by it being big in the hip hop culture, a Democratic stronghold.
5. Liberals against freedom. Liberals supported Sandanistas and all factions of communism in central America.
6. Liberals support Castro as evidenced by Chris Dudd's friendship as well as Danny Glover, Michael Moore, Cindy Sheehan, Harry Belafonte.
7. Liberals in favor of genocide as evidenced by do nothing in Rwanda, and now Sudan. Liberals eagerly look for the day there is mass genocide in IRaq.
8. Liberals are against the middle class as evidenced by the continued support for higher taxes.
9. Liberals in favor of open borders, low wages for U.S. workers in order to make more people members of the Democratic nanny state.
10. "While Condi Rice is not married, Hillary Clinton can't even get her husband to sleep with her.
11. Republicans oppose slavery, Democrats in favor of slavery.
12. Republicans in favor of a strong U.S., Democrats want to put U.S. under UN control.
13. Republicans believe in verifiable, sound education policies. Democrats believe in throwing money at it, not teaching anyone anything and just passing the kids along because it makes liberals feel better about themselves.
14. Republicans for God, Democrats against God but for Satan.

With that comment, you really show your level of understanding. Now, since I'm such a liberal, I must go worship Satan.

You are right, John. All of the things you said describe me perfectly. I've been on a vicious campaign against the black race and I rape children and I do it all for Satan and Castro. Do you have any clue what an idiot you are? I hope you're young enough to get some life experience.

Hey, Lefties, I just figure that since your "ilk" loves to make wild-eyed, baseless comments, I might as well join in on the fun. Understand? Obviously by the replies, no, no understanding. Not surprised.

Think about this. Bush had some polyps removed from his colon. If he now applied for private health insurance, he would have a preexisting condition and anything related to his colon or lower intestinal tract would not be covered.

John D., your ignorance and stupidity is refelcted in your 14 comments posted above. You need to start taking medication or something. You are a few french fries short of a happy meal.

Sorry Johnny D, but no one is going to take a lecture on morality from some one who publically supports the use of torture seriously.
You support a war crime. You support immorality.

This article and issue addresses a serious medical crisis facing people today. I am simply floored by the ignorance of people that do nothing but continue their political baby talk, drowning out the real purpose here. There needs to be a lot more "prominate" people speaking up on their own experiences with these health issues to encourage others to be checked. How ignorant you are all to smear this with your never ending pre-adolescent tantrums on Bush's performance. If HIllary had come out with a breast cancer issue, EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU SLAMMING BUSH IN THIS ARTICLE, would be applauding her bravery. Wake up people. AS I have preached many times, our current political pigpen residents relys on lemmings like you who will follow their party right off the cliff, even marring an issue as serious as colon cancer with your infantile poltical jibberish. .

No doubt a serious issue Rob. Maybe you should find a more appropriate blog for medical issues.
Posted by: Rick/Sneads Ferry, NC | July 23, 2007 9:37 PM
Rob S. You can't really believe that if a Democrat came down with breast cancer, these insulting fools wouldn't take jabs at it. The last major medical issue the neocons got involved in was the debacle over Terry Schaivo. If they could do THAT, they are certainly not above a few humorous jabs.
