President Bush says time and again that he listens to a lot of points of view. And the president is certain to hear plenty this afternoon when he sits down at the White House with several news columnists and commentators.
The president will play host at about 1:30 pm Eastern to Larry Kudlow of Kudlow & Co. on CNBC, Michael Barone, senior writer for U.S. News and World Report and coauthor of the American Almanac of Politics, Charles Krauthammer, a Washington Post columnist, Fred Barnes, executive editor of the Weekly Standard, and Kathleen Parker, syndicated columnist.
“No conservatives?’’ a White House reporter asked with tongue planted firmly in check when a spokeswoman read out the guest list today.
Kudlow, who last had a chance to sit down with the president about four months ago, said today on CNBC that he is looking forward simply to finding out how the president is holding up under the barrage of criticism he has faced on an almost daily basis.
Kudlow maintains that a tremendous success story is going unnoticed: The uninterrupted growth of the American economy since 2003, month after month of sustained improvement, matched by a record romp on Wall Street, low interest rates, low unemployment and low taxes – which, of course, he considers responsible for all of that good news.
Kudlow says he is looking forward to his meeting with Bush for, if nothing else, a mood-check on how the guy is faring.
Bush ought to enjoy the session as well.

The White House invited every non-Liberal they could find in the Beltway press corps--all five of them. Which says a lot about the diversity of the Beltway press corps.

Kudlow ought to talk to people about the quality of their jobs:
Job security?
Jobs with quality health insurance?
Jobs with solid pension plans?
Having a job is not the same thing as having a good job. Having to work two jobs is not twice as much fun as one job.

I still don't believe the unemployment figures. How can we here month to month about thousands losing their jobs and unemployment stays relatively the same? I work in accounting and something doesn't add up. And the "tax cuts" did nothing but raise our taxes.

Never mentions billions of deficits rung up under Reagan while he was sleeping.

The unemployment rate counts those who are looking for work ... for a certain period. You drop off the rolls after a few months even if you are still jobless. The EMployment rate at DoL tells a truer story ... the percentage of Americans working (participation rate) has dropped.

Doogie, how can you be concerned about people working two jobs when you don't even have one???
Sorry, but the economy is doing just fine. In fact, during my little jaunt to South Carolina the other day, I saw an area hammered by the fall of the textile industry renewed, reinvigorated and an area with lots of jobs growth, with a BMW plant constantly expanding and businesses thriving. I saw nothing but happy, happy people. You Leftwing Loons might try it someday, happiness beats anger.
And Lochness, if you are an accountant and worried about jobs, geez I've got loads of friends doing quite well in the accounting business at some of the biggest companies in the Chicago area, folks in high-level jobs (treasurer, VP of tax department, VP of some banking dept at LaSalle -- course she is concerned about LaSalle being on the market and what it means for her future) and most of my friends are always looking for good accounting people to fill job vacancies. So, if you are any good, there are plenty of accounting jobs out there! COurse, they are looking for quality, so not sure if you fit that picture or not.

Yesterday, President Bush said , "When all is said and done...if you ever come down to visit the old, tired me down there in Crawford, I'll be able to say I looked in the mirror and made decisions based upon principle, not based upon politics. "And that's important to me."
Democracy is a system in which decisions are made via politics, not based upon the principles of one individual. That's called a dictatorship.

John D - Are you going to give it up for Clinton b/c of a good economy under him? You should have a parade.

John D,
Might I suggest you take a drive and spend sometime in the lesser neighborhoods and stop basing everthing on your North Michigan Avenue friends. Then you might actually see what the majority of Americans are going through.
Posted by: Paul | July 13, 2007 1:36 PM
Paul, my boy, I have no North Michigan Ave. friends. Now one couple does live in Park Ridge and another in Hawthorne Woods. But you know what, Paul? Every single one of them worked hard, went to college, paid for college, worked and continued their education to get thier MBAs, etc. Nothing was handed to them, nothing given to them. All hard work in school and in the working world.
And for those in which most things in life have not gone well for them, they existed under Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, LBJ, FDR.
The fact remains the U.S. economy is strong, and for the most part has been strong for the past 25 years.
Posted by: John D | July 13, 2007 2:14 PM
Bush is still president. There can be no good news. And if there is, it's fake. Stop lying to us. The economy is awful. All the real Americans out here are poor, starving and miserable. EVERYONE knows it.

More polling news that the "Swamp" will never report, from the latest Rasmussen Poll:
"Americans See Liberal Media Bias on TV News
Friday, July 13, 2007
By a 39% to 20% margin, American adults believe that the three major broadcast networks deliver news with a bias in favor of liberals. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that just 25% believe that ABC, CBS, and NBC deliver the news without any bias.
Similar results are found for CNN and National Public Radio (NPR). By a margin of 33% to 16%, Americans say that CNN has a liberal bias. The nation’s adults say the same about NPR by a 27% to 14% margin.
There is one major exception to the belief that media outlets have a liberal bias—Fox News. Thirty-one percent (31%) of Americans say it has a bias that favors conservatives while 15% say it has a liberal bias.
...
Those not affiliated with either major party tend to see a liberal bias everywhere except Fox. Thirty-eight percent (38%) of unaffiliateds see a liberal bias at the major television networks while only 19% see a conservative bias."

John D. tells us the U.S. economy is strong. Hmmm. He's really not being totally honest with us. He's looking at a chapter not the entire book. You are not looking at the big picture Mr. D. Lots of people are suffering, without jobs, without insurance. As we all know this Mr. Bush is also deceiving us regarding the budget deficits and the economy. Off course he's going to say things are good and the economy is strong.

Bubbleboy Bruce,
Don't you ever wonder why Fixed News Channel is always calling every other news outlet "liberal"?
It's because they have such a far rightwing slant that anything left of their delusional version of reality looks liberal to them.

JD, at least you can admit that the ecomony was bad during Reagans entire first term. Sounds like you are a liberal. To me at least.
Posted by: batski | July 13, 2007 3:49 PM
Batski, Reagan inherited a mess from the worst president this country ever had -- Jimmy Carter (he's also the worst ex-president). Carter left Reagan with sky-high, double-digit inflation, sky-high, double-digit interest rates, sky-high unemployment. Under Carter, we had what was called "the misery index." Because the economy was in such dire straits, the construction market non-existent with interest rates in the 12 percent range, it took a couple of years for Reagan's policies to click in. Once they did, this country experienced some of its best economic activity, and since 1982, had seen recession in only 2 of 25 years: 1991 and 2000-2001.

Some of the posters should get out more. Even the respected English right-leaning capitalist (sorry, redundant) weekly The Economist doesn't believe either the US unemployment or inflation figures (thanks Honey Cho, hope that won't stain yer dress). The stock market is a pyramid scheme of paper churners sucking up each other and is almost entirely based on 'leveraged instruments', a really neato name for IOUs. US inflation has been running at ~10%/annum, US debt is off the scale relative to even the worst of the others (Spain). As neither George nor the short-bus trollers read, well, ya git what's ya pays for in the brain department, too. Oh, Iran asked to be paid for its oil in Yen because the dollar is so weak and a 'private bank' in Bagdahd just loaned Osama US$282million. Ha!

It is "good news." But "good news" built on what foundation? Answer: a war.
Roosevelt critics always contend that WWII got us out of the Depression. And that's true to a great extent.
It's not rocket science. "Supplying the Army with the tools of the trade" (Country Joe McDonald) is a sure winner for Wall Street.
But what happens when the war ends? The rich will take their profits, the Dow will fall, the Dems will be blamed, etc..
Wonderful political manuevering, but practically speaking it does nothing for the average American.
Profits built on war are ill-gotten gain. It is why the profiteers (i.e. Republicans) never forget to thank the troops. And the duped smile proudly with the medals on their chest and their legs blown off.

Lochness,
Layoffs occur by the 100's if not 1000's, the hiring occurs one at a time.
Crazy Duck,
Some economic facts: Estimated budget deficit this year is expected to be $205 billion down from $413 billion in 2004. rthe deficit is only 1.5% of the economy, lower than the 40 year avg of 2.4%. The reason, rising tax revenues thanks to tax cuts. Tax receipts are up $700 billion since 2004.
John D,
Lochness can't be an accountant, the profession doesn't hire that ignorant.
Batski,
Name a Clinton policy that triggered that economic growth. Plus President Clinto inherited an economy that had been growing for over 18 months.
What President economy inherited from Carter was a flat out mess. High inflation, interest rates, and unemployment. The trifecta of the misery index. President Reagan did a fabulous job bringing the economy back and winning the cold war.
Paul,
I travel the south side daily. I see new housing going-up and the slums of the pasts are gone.
JB - prove the Denile is more than a river.
Jerhro,
Whose fault is it that these folks signed these adjustable rate, no-money down mortgages. All the foreclosures prove is that most Americans are ecopnomically illiterate. Nice job public schools.
The economy that Ford left Carter was better than what Carter left Reagan. Check you facts.

Bud,
Defense spending as a % of teh nations GDP is very small as compared to what happened in WW2 or VietNam. The war machine is not driving this economy.

"I travel the south side daily. I see new housing going-up and the slums of the pasts are gone."
The number of people in poverty went down steadily during the Clinton years. The number of people in poverty has risen steadily during the Bush Adminstration.
Refer to the graph on page 13:

But Terry doesn't see the poor as much anymore on the South Side, so they must not exist.

Yes, there is lots of rebirth going on around The Cell. Could other areas do better? Yes. Were those same areas slums eight years after Bill Clinton? yes.
Speaking of the stock market, why was the hot stock market in the 1990s a good thing and the hot stock market under Bush is a bad thing? The reality is that much of the stock market growth in the 1990s was based on nothing except cyber companies that would be selling for $2 a share on day and then selling for $300 a few months later, all the while never making a profit. If anything, most economic analysts say the U.S. stock market is lower than where it should be.
John E., as far as tax cuts are concerned under Bush, the rate that most of us are taxed went from 28 percent to 25 percent. In addition, the marriage penalty tax went away and the child tax credit doubled. Those making at the bottom of the wage scale, were REMOVED from the federal income tax, meaning they pay NO TAXES on their income (not including Social Security and Medicare).
Please, speak with facts for once and not your moveon.org lying points.
Posted by: John D | July 13, 2007 7:29 PM
John E,
Unlike you, my face is not buried in the barbie Coloring Book.
Did I benefit directly from the tax cuts - you bet. I work for a living. There were tax cuts for all that paid income taxes. Anyone tells you otherwise, they are either lying or need a new accountant.
The country has benefitted from these tax cuts becuase the cuts have raised additional revenue than and also strengthened a weak economy from 2000-01 and also from the terror attacks.
If the politicians don't screw it up, we will back to surpluses in a couple of years in spite of the spending on the war on terror.
I know you brain is probably full, so have mom get your milk and cookies and read Thomas the Tank Engine to you and go to bed.

Just in time to save his nation and put complicated investigative procedures into quaint folksy prose, welcome to The Swamp our new contributing editor/reporter, Detective Columbo.
I see you like to tell jokes Mr. President. My wife likes to tell jokes. She's not very good at it though. She never gets the punchline in the right place. Then, once we have figured it out, she tries three or four more times, and still can't get it right. Maybe she could come here and talk to you some day and you can give her some advice on telling jokes, ya know give her some pointers. Did I mention she is a big fan of yours, sir? Oh yeah, she has pictures of you in every room of our house, even one, get this, even one inside the refrigerator so she can see you every morning when she gets the cream for my coffee. She's a lovely woman.
leaves.
re-enters.
One more thing Mr. President sir. I was at the local electronics store a while back, watching the news, did you know you can't smoke in restaurants any more, what a shame. Well anyway, while I was walking back to see the plasma's, have you seen the picture on those HD things, it's so clear you can see everything, even some things you probably shouldn't. Oh, I'm sorry, I know you are a busy man, fighting a war and all, but I'm getting to the point. Before I get to the plasma section, something catches my eye, you know, in other words, it got my attention. And I look over and guess who I see, right in front of me, clear as day on a brand new 60" LCD? No really, I'm not kidding with you sir, your the President, I'm serious, it was you sir, I wanted to watch what you had to say, because my wife takes a bath at this time and she probably would not see you because, I can't have a television in the bathroom. The wife is afraid of getting electrocuted. I told her that we have a ground fault interrupter, but she is just, you know, a little old fashioned. Anyway, the reason I came back is, after seeing you on TV, that day, something just seemed a bit amiss. Just as I walked out the door, I put it all together. You told a joke that day sir, that got quite a good laugh. Your punchline was delivered as if by heart. It's kind of a funny thing, it seems it's the punchline that got me thinking. When solving 99.99% of all cases, all evidence is irrelevant once you follow the money. The punchline of your joke was not aimed at me or the 99% of America I know, it was a punchline specifically designed for your audience, I hope you remember the joke, I'm sure I could get a copy if you want. The punchline, forgive me if I don't get it right, I'm around 106 years old, the punchline was something like, I see you as my base.

Horrific crimes committed by this White House are now becoming every day events. Though one that has yet to be published or discussed anywhere in the US may be Bush's most memorable for impeachment that Americans will never forget regardless of anything this treasonist ever does.
Two days after the levees broke following Katrina.......Pres. Bush, Cheney, and Chertoff ordered that ALL pets be left behind by order of military enforcement on a massive scale. That was the first time in US history such an order had ever been given following a flood. What the White House then realized after it thought it was doing something terribly cruel......noticed that having New Orleans residents pets and animals being kept nearby the city and Gulf would be a strong motivator for the citizens to return. What they did next is their ultimate acheivement in cover-up and crimes and Murdoch directed it.
Bush then ordered EVERY pet be sent to EVERY State in the US.......another first in American history. Those that were "unadoptable, ugly, or old" were going to receive the "turkey shoot". Bush ordered the slaughter and massacre of 10,000's of personal pets to keep residents from coming back. On Sept 12th 2005, Fema Director Brown was "fired" after 2 weeks following Katrina. Why? Brown refused the order to kill all the pets and have them removed to every State. On Sept 13th Adm. Thad Allen took over and EVERY kennell, shelter, and permanent animal storage(even those set up by the National Guard until the residents could return for their pets) was raided and all the animals were transported or killed in mass graves similar to what we are seeing in Iraq.
Open-aired tractor trailors filled with animals made one way trips of a least 1000 miles or more. Many 2000 miles......after arriving the animals noses were so broken you could hardly identify them. (those were shot). The most grotesque "menu ordering" for a dog came by a State Atty by the name of Pamela Jo Bondi in Tampa who has direct ties with Murdoch and the White House. This single woman refused to return a dog that she knew belonged to an entire family for almost 2 years(knew within weeks the family had been looking).....committing felonies and dozens of crimes to justify her actions and maintain her statis as a Fox TV law "expert". (she returned the dog just in time before the trial started to have the pets returned to the previous owners. Information about Rupert Murdochs involvement during Katrina and his cover-up of Bush crimes was going to be released during that trial and the case ended very abruptly??!!)
The White House is violently refusing to release ANY transcripts of what was said, done, video, or recorded during the time frame of Aug 28th-Sept 20th 2005 by President Bush, Cheney, or Chertoff. The WH is claiming it is "too embarassing" to release. What could be so horrible as to be too embarrassing to this administration? ONCE YOU HEAR AND READ THE TRANSCIPTS OF WHAT PRESIDENT BUSH SAID AND DID......YOU WILL KNOW WHY.
Mr. Bush orders the killing of all personal pets from every resident along the Gulf to keep the "n*****s of New Orleans" from coming back. "Turkey shoot during the day(dogs and cats) and a Coon shoot at night(people)." Once you hear this current President blatantly ordering the killing of Americans on American soil.......he would be impeached within days. The WH has said it would destroy the tapes rather than have them released. I wonder why.....though they are probably already destroyed. To this day........3,000 residents of New Orleans are simply "missing". They were ordered killed by direct order of the White House. Every sheriff, officer, Black Water, and hired assassin was ordered to kill at will. (Of course the WH has hung some of them out to dry and some officers are now facing murder charges in New Orleans)
ps......(Thad Allen was also the man hired from the military to come in and clean up after Hurricane Andrew in 92'. He was also accused then of killing personal pets for his enjoyment.) FEMA Director Michael Brown came from a Horse Association and ordering animals killed was way down on his list of orders he would carry out. Michael Chertoff plays a much greater role in this tragedy than is presented. His citizenship in Isreal leads him to receive orders from outside the US on many occasions. Black Water also enjoyed killing pets as seen in footage taken by a filmaker during Katrina. The film is called "An American Tragedy" and has been heavily discounted and thwarted wherever it has played. The filmaker unknowingly has these criminals on tape getting their orders and carrying them out.....ooops?!
Once you hear what was said by Bush concerning the residents and citizens of New Orleans and the killing of their personal pets.........he would be impeached within days.
Posted by: terrorfied | July 14, 2007 7:18 AM
Terrorfied, please enlighten us with what Bush said about the people of New Orleans and the killing of their pets. I would like to see more on that. Please provide some proof. Please provide proof that Bush ordered the killing of New Orleans residents.
I got to tell ya, you whacked out Leftist Loons (sorry Mark, but that post is just too much) with your inane 9/11 conspiracies and now this ordering the people and pets of New Orleans to be killed insanity only tells me that the Far Left is seriously mentally deranged and hospitalization is necessary.
John E., perhaps if you had a job, making money, perhaps you would have received Bush's tax cuts. Those in the 10 percent tax bracket were dropped to the 0 percent tax bracket, but you still have to make some money to receive that new rate.

Well those animals were in dire straits, in other words, they didn't look happy. Now imagine the joy on their little puppy faces, when they got to meet god. See, george is a celestial travel agent in other words, he's doing god's work, and we all know, god's work is good work. George single-handedly converted more than 100,000 iraqis from their war mongering allah god guy, and introduced them one by one to the one true god of christianity. At this rate, the whole muslim world could become god fearing christians in a few more centruries.

"Terrorfied, please enlighten us with what Bush said about the people of New Orleans and the killing of their pets. I would like to see more on that. Please provide some proof. Please provide proof that Bush ordered the killing of New Orleans residents."........I am....though you will never listen. Read and listen to the transcripts of Bush HIMSELF of what HE said from Aug 28th-Sept 18th 2005 concerning the residents of New Orleans. This is the transparency and audio recording president. He has everything you need to hear. Just listen to it.
A common tactic of the administration is to attack the messenger with accusations of being "whacked out, loony, needing hospitalization" etc.....in other words.......kill and lock-up all dissention and opposing voices to the crimes Bush committed. We are now finding out Bush has been doing this since the day he took office. You ask for proof and then say it can never exist without evey having heard a word of what Bush said and did from his own transcripts. Statements without proof are: Bin laden had anything to do with 9-11 (never one drop of evidence). Hussan had weapons of mass destruction which lead to the pre-emptive invasion of Iraq (never one drop of proof). Iranians of building nuclear weapons to kill the world (never one drop of proof). Listen to what Bush said on his own transcripts from Aug 28th-Sept 18th 2005. The world will hear what he did and said. He ordered military and police to kill on-sight on US soil which is an impeachable offense for which ZERO media has ever mentioned for fear of White House reprisal. NPR interviewed dozens (aug 29th 2007) who have already testified that plain clothesed officers fired and killed hundreds without any provocation or any kind.
