With President Bush’s approval ratings once again reaching all-time or near-lows, his string of sub-40 percent quarterly averages in the Gallup Poll now exceeds a run that former President Richard Nixon scored leading to his resignation from the presidency.
The latest results show Bush’s job-approval rating at 31 percent, matching the first low that he reached early last year and only marginally higher than the 29-percent all-term low recorded two weeks ago.
The 26th quarter of Bush’s presidency, which ends on July 19, represents “the worst he has had,’’ Gallup reports.

What you do not report is that Bush has job approval by 80 percent of Republicans in the latest polls, so what the Gallup poll really means is that Democrats and "independents" (traditionally left leaning) do not approve. I am shocked, shocked!

Again, this illegitimate Supreme Court appointed President will go down as the very worst President the United States has ever had. He is a disgrace, an embarassment, and a criminal.

Republicans have become even more petulant and self-congratulatory than ever before, which is obvious by some of the "anti-Left", "everything Bush does is right!" sentiments on the board.
When did blindly supporting a president or party become more important than protecting young American troops?
If the war - now in its' 5th summer - is going so well, why has US Intel released dire predictions about AlQueda attacking us here in our homeland?
I wish Republicans could understand that liberals - as well as a vast majority of the country - are right this time around. The war is a disaster, the president is a disaster, and clinging to the way things have been done for the last 6 years means the disaster won't end anytime soon.

Sierra:
That 80% figure of Republican support is worthless. It's basically known that approximately 1/3 Republican, 1/3 Democrat and 1/3 Independent. Which means that Bush had to get the so-called "left leaning" vote to be elected. What this shows is that he has LOST the support of the independents who voted for him. Plus, notice how many of the Republican nominees for President compare themselves to Reagan, not Bush.
You should be shocked.

Sierra:
I'd like to know where you get your figures to support that claim.
From what I've seen, only about 62% of Republicans approve of Duh'bya's job performance. The "real" hidden figure here, is the fact that an ever increasing number of people who formerly identified themselves as "Republicans" no longer do so. As such, that 62% approval rating represents approval by a lot fewer people than one might think.

He needs better PR. Let's try this...We won the war in Iraq. We deposed a tyrant and gave the powers to govern back to the Iraqi people. We can't help that they're mucking it up big time. We can't win peace in the middle east for the middle east. Let's bring our troop out of Iraq and welcome them home as heros. They deposed Saddam and tried to help a people that just can't seem to help themselves. GWB and the RNC should get on this bandwagon. Bottom line, we didn't and haven't failed in Iraq. The people of the middle east have failed to use the resources we gave them to a positive affect; hence they are failing Iraq. Leave them alone, let them fight it out themselves and not take sides. Lives and Liberty are much more important than cheap oil, Haliburton profits and Daddy's legacy. If terrorists hate us being the world's bully, let's stop giving them fodder for their cannons. Leave them to themselves for five years. Let them fight it out amongst themselves without us "big brothering" them and see how they do.
Isolationist? Maybe. But without our treasure being supplied to these theifdoms, they have no political or economic capital. Let them bankrupt China with high oil prices while we spend our money and efforts on going green.

Because, idiot, if he reported every single approval rating from every single subset of the American populace, along with every single other piece of statistical minutiae in this poll, this posting would be 30 pages long. Could that be why?
Geez.. you are either the most positive person in the world (unlikely), or willfully blind to facts that you don't personally like. You dug through the poll to pick out the one tiny, little, immaterial nugget that could possibly be construed as positive for Mr. Bush in an attempt to disprove the poll findings.
(and those "left leaning" poll respondants seemed to like Ronald Reagan just fine. Shocked! Shocked!!!)
Posted by: david k | July 18, 2007 10:13 AM
Doug Zook - check your facts: GWB's current approval among Republicans is also at an all-time low of 65%.
Posted by: COB | July 18, 2007 10:15 AM
Yes, Democrats will not support Bush no matter what. When his approval ratings were in the 80 percent range following 9/11, still most Democrats did not support them and more than likely some of those that did, did so begrugingly.
Usually, no matter who good the GOP president is, most Democrats will not support that president. Throughout history, Republicans have shown to be more fair toward the Democratic president than vice versa.
And where Bush has fallen for some Republicans is because of immigration.

I vote for Bush and Cheny to be impeached and tried for war crimes.
Posted by: Cari | July 18, 2007 10:22 AM
Sierra,
The ratings are gathered by polling a random section of the public large enough to ensure they are representative of the nation as a whole. The approval ratings of the past that Bush's numbers are being compared to were gathered in an equally fair manner as Bush's current ratings and were just as subject to partisan influence. Your comment is meaningless.

In the poll results the "Swamp" wants to make sure you don't see, the latest AP Poll shows the Democrat Congress with lower approval ratings than Pres. Bush:
"AP Poll: Public gives Congress low marks (has fallen 11 points since May, to 24 percent)
AP on Yahoo ^ | 7/13/07 | Darlene Superville - ap
WASHINGTON - In the eyes of the public, Congress is doing even worse than the president.
Public satisfaction with the job lawmakers are doing has fallen 11 points since May, to 24 percent, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll. That's lower than for President Bush, who hasn't fared well lately, either.
Bush has been taking heat over the Iraq war, his decision to spare a former top vice presidential aide from going to prison and his desire for an overhaul of immigration laws that critics said would give a free pass to illegal immigrants. His job approval rating in the AP-Ipsos survey remained virtually unchanged at 33 percent.
The 24 percent approval rating for Congress matched its previous low, which came in June 2006, five months before Democrats won control of the House and Senate due to public discontent with the job Republicans were doing.
Just two months ago, 35 percent of the public approved of Congress' work."

Another poll came out today, Reuters/Zogby, and again the Dem Congress came out worse than Pres. Bush:
"Eighteen months before Bush leaves the White House, nearly two-thirds of Americans say the country is headed in the wrong direction and give the president negative marks for his job performance.
An even bigger majority, 83 percent, say the Democratic-controlled Congress is doing only a fair or poor job -- the worst mark for Congress in a Zogby poll....
While 83 percent said Congress was doing a fair or poor job, just 14 percent rated it excellent or good. Last October, in its final days, the Republican-led Congress earned ratings of excellent or good from 23 percent of voters."

Isn't it odd that Mark Silva and his Swampies don't write articles on polls that show the Congressional Democrats unpopular?
Posted by: Bruce | July 18, 2007 11:17 AM
Bruce,
Democrat Congress? With one donkey incapacitated and Joe Lieberman doing his thing, I would hardly call the present day Congress the "Democrat Congress". Now if there were 60 plus Democrats in Congress, and believe me this is coming soon, then you can play this
Democrat Congress" card for all it will be worth. Till then, sell your slant somewhere else.
As to the polls, 80% plus of the american public thinks our national "elected" leaders aren't doing their jobs (representing the people, remember?). Whether it Executive branch or Legislative branch doesn't really matter.

You keep throwing out the low ratings of congress as if that was some sort of endorsement of Bush and his policies. When, in fact, the opposite is true. The disenchantment of Congress is that they are not being tough enough on Bush and getting us out of Iraq.
Posted by: coach | July 18, 2007 11:42 AM
Its sad that it has gotten to this. As much as I dislike what Bush has done over his first 7 years, it would be nice to have a president that people like once again. Nothing good can come from having a president less popular than a pre-resignation Nixon.
Would be interested to see the thoughts of his supporters...

And here we have more loony comments about Bush being a war criminal. Was Clintoon a war criminal for his not-sanctioned-by-the-UN foray into Bosnia? Was Clintoon a war criminal for his repeated bombings of Iraq during eight years? Who athorized Clinton to bomb Iraq on a regular basis, with four instances consisting of major bombing and multiple days of it?
It's always tough for the Left when reality and facts get in the way of their hysteria.

From an independant voter. For all of you salivating for a 60 vote democratic majority in the senate, control of the house and the presidency, you would get exactly what we have here in Illinois.
The highest price of gas in the country, the highest sales tax in the country, soaring property taxes, runaway government spending, a utility company that has the president of the senate bought and paid for, and a governor who uses a corporate jet to commute to work.

The Democrats are in the majority don't use excuses to justify their stupid behavior.
Congress is behind Bush by 9 points in the AP poll and it means Reid's leadership is in trouble. Pelosi doesn't rank any higher.
Mike Madigan is the only bright spot in the Democrat Party in Illinois along with the minority Republicans Tom Cross and Frank Watson will have to craft the structure of the budget. Emil Jones is too busy taking care of his wife and family connections to state government. Blago is off in space waiting for the makeup artist to ready him for his next news conference.
Illinois is in a mess and the only way to get a budget is not to do another month to month budget--shut down the government and they will get to work to get it done.Jerry White, Springfield, IL
Posted by: Jerry White | July 18, 2007 2:06 PM
Jim G., as far as Republican spending nationally, the reality is that while spending did ramp up in the 2000-2003 period, it also crept to minimal 1 to 3 percent increases from 2004 2006.
In regard to Illinois, George Ryan did spend like no tomorrow, but he also had a Democratic legislature spending that money. And if we want to talk corruption, today's governor makes George Ryan look like a Boy Scout.
In addition, Republicans abandoned George Ryan and many so-called Republicans in Illinois for the simple fact they acted too much like the Democcrats.

And if anyone who reads the Trib looks back, they will not find a "liberal bias", in fact the Trib supported Bushie in both his first term "selection" & his 2nd term election & historically has been a conservative voice in this liberal city.
Posted by: urbaneddie | July 18, 2007 9:45 PM
I am not defending Bush, because I think the huge mistake in Iraq trumps everything else, and for that his presidency will always be a disgrace. Illegal immigration is a mess, much of America does not share in the vast prosperity, the deficit is enormous, and health care is approaching a possible crisis state. However, there are some successes (for some folks).
Consider the booming economy, lower taxes, business expansion, and stock market, and some people are in better shape. Unfortunately, too few shared this wealth, and many just got richer. Perhaps these people make up the 31% who still support the president.
I would have to say Carter's presidency was still worse, as we did almost nothing right, and the widespread national pain and humiliation was greater than what we see today. In time, the Bush legacy may get worse if history records a rise in global terrorism (almost a given) because of Iraq. If, on the other hand, democracy and moderate muslims can one day overtake radical islam (a long shot), will Bush get any credit?
