A prominent Republican fundraiser from Chicago has endorsed Democratic Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential bid, her campaign said today.
Terry Duffy, executive chairman of CME Group, the combined entity formed by the recent merger of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the Chicago Board of Trade, cited Clinton's understanding of domestic and international economic issues in making his endorsement.
“Like no other candidate, Hillary Clinton crosses party lines to combine the visionary leadership and pragmatic problem-solving skills that this country needs in its president,” he said in statement. “It is critical that the U.S. retains its leadership position in the global economy and that our financial markets have the support and infrastructure needed to successfully compete globally."

Hillary also scored John Mack at Citi, who was a two time GOP Ranger for W. A fundraiser is being held this week or next, according to Chris Matthews.

Even the Republicans don't want another Republican in the White House in 08.

It pays to fact-check everything "Swamp" reporters write, since they are so often wrong. In this instance, asserted "prominent Republican" Terry Duffy has contributed to oodles of Democrats. A search of the Federal Election Commission records shows that Duffy has contributed big bucks to Democrats such as Senator Durbin (9-9-05, $1000), Dan Hynes ($1500 3-26-03 and 3-9-04), TN senatorial candidate Harold Ford ($1000 3-29-06) and IL Cong. Melissa Bean ($1000 6-30-06).
Such facts would tend to dispute the impact of a Duffy endorsement of a Democrat. John McCormick didn't give the readers those facts.

RNC Bruce, take me to your leader.

Careful there, Bruce, don't criticize LIBune reporters too much. They like to censor folks who criticize LIBune reporters.
Hmmm, I am a "prominent" Republican in that I have been a precinct captain, did campaign for Mark Kirk, etc., and I can say without a doubt that Hillary or any Democrat running will not get my endorsement!
Hmmm, isn't Hillary the one who says she wants to "take" corporate profits and spend it as SHE sees fit??

Most big companies give to both sides, everybody knows that. He'll probably also give to the republicans. But this is more than just a contribution, it's an endorsement.

RNC Bruce,
In the interest of full disclosure (you're big on that, right?) how much is the RNC paying you?

It pays....or I get paid to fact check? I find it hard to believe that someone who obviously doesn't agree with the Trib, would continue day after day after day after day after day to spend their time howling at the moon like you do without getting paid.

What a joke. Hillary possesses leadership? You mean like owning Raytheon stock while sitting on the armed services committee only to BLOCK RPG weapons defense systems offered by rival companies that might save our troops? And how about her husbands money pouring in from Dubai? Ask some NYers about Hill. We loved losing Syroco, Nestle, Marcellus Casket, Carrier Corp, Camillus Cutlery, Onieda Ltd. She has presided over a MASSIVE loss of jobs. Will anyone ever read that in your biased garbage newspapers?

Bruce, they also forgot to mention that Duffy is not nearly as good looking as other Republicans.
We've got them on the run now!
Buy I need for you to hit harder to be effective. You say "big bucks" were donated to Dems such as $1000 to three that you mentioned. But in the case that $1500 was donated to Hynes you need to use the term "whopping" or "massive amounts of money" to really hit home.

It only took a couple minutes to discover Terry Duffy's many contributions to Democrats.
Ever wonder why a Tribune reporter (who unlike me gets paid to do these things) can't spend those couple minutes looking this up?
Posted by: Bruce | July 18, 2007 3:30 PM
RNC Bruce,
A non-denial denial?
Who's your chinaman?
C'mon give it up.

Visionary leadership? I don't think so. Hillary/Bill showed no vision when it came to the war in Iraq until public opinion became lopsided against it, even when after the first year it became obvious that things were going badly and the administrations lies and deceptions began to back up on them. I'm sure many republicans will contribute loads of money to the Hillary/Bill campaign because they know she is beatable.

The best proof that Terry Duffy isn't a "key" or even "prominent" Republican is the Chicago Tribune itself. A search for "Terry Duffy" in the Trib archives 2000-present shows him mentioned in 36 articles--none of which have anything to do with politics, let alone Republican fundraising.
John, you really should fact check the Clinton press releases before running them.
Posted by: Bruce | July 18, 2007 5:35 PM
GW,
I couldn't agree more.
RNC operatives/trolls know she's the most vulnerable and that's why we get these back handed ata girls for Hillary.
If she were another place another time absent Bill it'd be a whole differt program - but it's not.
Democrats, don't let the Machavellian Republicans play us as chumps.

It also pays to fact check when bruciee start parsing facts. Terry Duffy also contributed to John Boehner and Judy Biggert.

Doug, what happened to the debating thing?
Posted by: John D | July 18, 2007 8:20 PM
Kyle M.
Hillary does not preside over NY--she represents in the Senate. You and john D. should get together and share your twisted world. Reality is going to hit you guys hard someday.

It would empower the collective consciousness of America to elect a woman, an African-American, a free thinker and uphold the priciples upon which this country was founded. It's becoming more and more clear that America will NOT continue to vote for the same tired old rhetoric. Unfortunately, bigotry, sexism and racism are still apparent in American opinion and have grown deep roots. This lack of education and unwilingness to learn is obvious to the rest of the world. The World Community views the US as a violent, invading force. It ALMOST makes me want to elect a Republlican to the White House next year, just to force them to fix the mess they made. ALMOST.

Now, get me that cup of coffee I asked you to get hours ago.

Ever wonder where newspaper reporters get their articles from?
As everybody in the business knows, they often merely re-write the press releases sent them.
In this case, if you're wondering why John McCormick and his headline writer called Terry Duffy a "key" Republican fundraiser, know that they merely repeated what the Clinton campaign told them in their press release:
"One of Chicago's key Republican fund-raisers, CME Group Executive Chairman Terry Duffy today announced that he is endorsing Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton for the 2008 election."
Pathetic.

Well Doug, wasn't it you who commented a few days ago no more name calling for you, that you wanted debates? Outside of calling thsoe on the Left that are loony, loony, I don't name call. No trolls, dingbats, doofus, dipsh*ts, etc. from me. How about you?

Illinois voters don't register by political party. They can request a specific ballot for primaries, but that's it. In the Land of Lincoln, no one is a registered anything.
