A resounding majority of Americans say the Democratic-controlled Congress is doing only a fair or poor job, according to a new Zogby poll conducted for Reuters.
This marks the worst mark for Congress in Zogby's surveys.
In the national survey of 1,012 likely voters, conducted July 12-14, about 66 percent said Bush had done only a fair or poor job as president, with 34 percent ranking his performance as excellent or good. "That is up slightly from his low of 30 percent in early March and in line with other national polls showing Bush's approval ratings lingering at or near historically low levels amid continued chaos and bloodshed in Iraq,'' Reuters reports..
"But the marks for Congress, mired in gridlock over a series of partisan political battles after Democrats took power in the 2006 elections, continued to drop,'' Reuters reports. "While 83 percent said Congress was doing a fair or poor job, just 14 percent rated it excellent or good. Last October, in its final days, the Republican-led Congress earned ratings of excellent or good from 23 percent of voters.''
"There is a growing sense that people voted for change in 2006 and they aren't getting it," pollster John Zogby said.
For more on the poll, see the Reuters.com report.

Bruce, how many paragraphs are in this article compared to the one about Bush?
And why does the Swamp have to post this AFTER the Bush story. I'll tell you why. It was done so everyone would forget about the Bush article. NO FAIR!

Come 08, when the American people can get rid of the obstructionist Republic Party members that are left in Congress and their "leader" in the White House, America will be able to move forward with progress.
WE MUST GET RID OF THE FLAT EARTH REPUBS IN 08 !

We're more annoyed with the obstructionist Republicans than with the Dem leadership.

Dems don't count your chickens before they hatch. After the Reid-Durbin slumber party there is more disgust with Democrats and the GOP can definitely take back congress and the White House in 08--sorry Bush bashers but, he isn't running Reid, Durbin and Schumer are good luck. Cheryl, are you as annoyed with the "obstructionist" republicans who joined with the majority of Democrats to preserve the rules, such as filibusters, that congress is still run by today? Are you?

It should come as no shock that the voters are even more disgusted with this do-nothing congress as they were the last. Still waiting for that earmark reform. Chirp. Chirp.

What an asset Harry Reid is...to the Republicans. The shortest book in the world? A list of achievements by the do-nothing Democratic Senate.

Reno,
Go home troll.

My, such name calling! Actually, thanks for the compliment. According to the dictionary, a troll is "a dwarf or giant in Scandinavian folklore inhabiting caves or hills." Sounds like an exciting life. And no left wingers around.

The Democratically controlled Congress is not the problem. That would be Bush, refusing to listen to any legislation that doesn't cater to his agenda. Also, that thing about smirking like some freakish character out of a 60s TV episode of Batman as he vetoes everything that doesn't support the Iraq war. What a hero.

This is typical of Americans. They hate "Congress" but they'll re-elect their own representative 95% of the time. And usually, they replace the newbies and leave the old-timers entrenched. So these kind of polls mean nothing.
In fact, they're probably yucking it up on Capitol Hill.
"Hey, let's see how low we can get our poll numbers without losing our seats."
Watch. 9 out of 10 reps will run on a platform to change the way things are done in Washington. And they'll all win.

John, weall know this page is run by leftists for leftists. Why are you surprised that a poll showing Congress's approval ratings are below the POTUS' shows only in miniscule print.

Reno - please list ALL of the accomplishments that the previous Republican dominated Congress achieved from 2004-2006.

Well, BC, much was stifled by the Democrats, so yeah, not a lot did get done.
Two great things that did get done, though, were the confirmation of Roberts and Alito.
Previous to 2004, we did get tax cuts and No Child Left Behind. Heck, you folks even got your so-called campaign finane reform through.
