DES MOINES -- Traveling throughout Iowa today, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney said he would work with computer and software companies to ensure every new home computer has filters already installed that would allow parents to block out pornography.
Romney, a Republican candidate for president who is looking for support from conservatives, said the filtering software should be installed on computers sold at retail and should be made easy to use when a computer is set up. He also said he would promote filtering products to parents who already have a computer.
Romney contended that one in three youths report being exposed to unwanted sexual material via computers and he said there is a danger that as technology advances, computer-facilitated crimes against children will continue to rise.
He commended the Bush administration's Justice Department initiative, Project Safe Childhood, launched in February of last year, which is aimed at helping children navigate the Internet.
While the internet-filtering software industry has grown, some groups say filters should be mandated for use by Internet Service Providers, or ISPs, to prevent unwanted pornography from ever reaching the home computer.

I wonder what (R) Mark Foley thinks about Mitt "The Great Flipflopper" Romney's proposal on porn?

but what about those of us adults purchasing home computers who want to continue watching internet porn?

Didn't Romney make a lot of money with hotels that showed porn in every room?
This guy is as phony as Hillary, and that is saying something.

That's funny coming from Romney. When he was on the board at Marriott, he never did anything about the pay-per-view porn available in the hotels.

Romney is a "Warren Jeff" in disguise. May be why he was such a high profile fugitive. You always have to lock up the one with the "black book."
If Warren Jeff was the King of Mormons, then Mitt Romney served him correct?
You don't see him make much inference to him as though he doesn't know him?
What about all of the adoptions that happen within the faith?
He is just another Warren Jeff outside the closet doors. His skeltons will eventually have their say as well. It's just a matter of time that the GOP "Takes the gloves Off" and hand down his faith as well.
Mitt No 5 wives for You. by the way how many do you have?
Posted by: Roger Morris | July 26, 2007 4:00 PM
Roger Morris - he has as many wives as the Majority Leader of the Senate, his fellow MOrmon, Harry Reid.

Jeez Roger, that is pretty tough. I can't stand Romney (or Hillary) but I don't know if I would go that far.
On the other hand he was the guy holding up an "Ossama Obama" sign. Asking him how many wives he had only seems fair.

"Freedom," or is that Johnnny E. again? Anyway, if you could read and comprehend you woul have understood that the filters would be there so parents could use them if they so desired.
Roger Morris, nice bigoted comment about Mormons. Romney has one wife, for your information.
I always get a kick out of the Loony Left that loves to play the race and bigotry card, when in reality there are no greater bigots than the Loony Left.

I don't need any of these goofs policing my family. Stay out of my house! Parents should be making these decisions not the government.

Ooo, ooo, call on me!
I want to be in charge of the Mitt "Varmint Hunter" Romney ad campaign.
Anybody know what a Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, Daffy Duck needle drop goes for?
Ooo, call on me!

You would think a candidate for Present of the united states would have something else to be sounding off about. Anyway such a filter is years, years in the making and require very thing posted to have a rating code someplace.

Yeah, like the Redneks don't like porn.
What's that divorce rate with the Southern Christians?

John E,
At least that will give that carpel tunnel in your wrist a chance to heal.
Posted by: Terry | July 26, 2007 7:15 PM
The best way to filter porn from being viewed by kids and it is a simple two step process. First, put the computer in the living room, not the kids bedrooms. Second, Parents, have a clue what your kids are doing, get involved!.

Does he propose that Marriott install porn-prevention devices on all their hotels? Or is that different, because he used to be on their board, and in-room porno is one of, or maybe even the most profitable part of their enterprise?
So it's bad when other people distribute and make money off of porn, just not him...

Raving Loon, when you're playing your "I'm a Northerner and Christians from the South are Rednecks" bigot card, please spell rednecks correctly, OK?
Nothing worse than an Ignorant Northern Left Wing Bigot!

Romney is a joke.

Roger Morris, you really are ignorant about world religions. Calling Warren Jeffs the leader of the Mormon churn is like calling Jim Jones or David Koresh the leader of the Christian church. Seriously, try to educate yourself...life is much more interesting being informed.

For those who would prefer the actual position statement to Rick Pearson's take on the position, the Romney campaign's news release on internet porn can be found at www.mittromney.com.

No, John D - there's nothing worse than someone like your who throws out allegations and refuses to back them up with any sort of proof. You're the one who stated that John Edwards spends as much on his suits as Bush does, yet we're all still waiting for you to provide any evidence to support that claim.
You're a pretty lazy journalist.
Posted by: BC | July 27, 2007 11:12 AM
BC, I could care less how much Edwards spends on a suit. The fact remains that a man who makes millions a year, has a multi-million dollar home and flies hairdressers cross country to cut his hair costing him more than $1,000 to do that, most certainly buys suits for over $1,000.
Why don't you answer the questions for once: Where do you think Edwards get his suits and how much do you think he pays for them? Do you really think he buys his suits at Kohls or KBs for $100?
Mid-level suits at Brooks Brothers, for instance, cost $800 and up. Brooks Brothers lowest-priced suits still run for $600.
Posted by: John D | July 27, 2007 1:23 PM
John D, if you could care less how much Edwards spends on a suit, why did you counter Bush's expenses for suits by saying that Edwards pays as much? Furthermore, why would you say something like that with no proof? Does everything have to be "but liberals do it too"? Could you not have just countered the allegation that Bush spends too much money on his suits with: "They're his suits, paid for with his money. It's his business what he buys and how much he pays for it, not ours."???
Does it not occur to you that you afford the same favor to the Democratic/liberal cause with your "loony liberal" statements and the other wild, ridiculous allegations you spew out as Democrats do for your side by calling conservatives Nazis, Fascists, and KKK? I mean, thanks a bunch for the boosts, but get a CLUE, dude!

Romney even has Mormon papers calling him a hypocrite. I link to that article, plus many more on our site devoted to Mitt Romney & the implications of a President that must follow a self-proclaimed prophet in Salt Lake City. Many say religion has no role in politics; tell that to Bin Laden. Do we need our very own fundamentalist?
