The Swamp

by Tom Brune

On the campaign trail and in debates, Rudy Giuliani presents himself as the most electable Republican in the race for the White House. It’s an argument that many Republicans seem to buy, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

Giuliani is considered the great GOP hope for president by nearly half of those surveyed, putting him well ahead of his rivals, the Washington Post reports. Still, the former New York City mayor faces skepticism for his liberal stands and personal foibles, and may have a hard time winning the Republican nomination.

Meanwhile, in a separate article Giuliani makes a plea for voters to focus on his record, not his personal life.

It's not a question can he win or not, People just want to know where he is going to build the next DEFENSE BUNKER.

Who can he protect? His Wife? His Ex wife? His other Ex Wife or his Cousin he thought wasn't.

Come on what would he do for the GOP? Give them a new class on how to "Systematically Shut Down America" again for 21 years. Make sure that the "First Responders" got some of the 4.4 Billion Dollars allotted in the 2003 DHS Appropriations Budget.

The 37 Percent of his backers must the last of the Bush supporters, and we all know that is anyone and everyone who has stock in "Halliburton" and the Consolidation of America and its Sovereinty as we know it.

Just think if he didn't win and one of the other "Failed Policy Holders" did and he was appointed to DHS as the "SECRETARY" He would own your Nationality as you may think you know it.

What a Joke, he shouldn't even be in the race. The GOP are "Lame Ducks" because they are not allowed to be Leaders because if they did, they would have to go against their "DECIDER" and right now Dick is not allowing for such "ASSESTATIONS."

NEXT.

Of course Rudy can win!
Baracky is too inexperienced(he wants to meet with dictators, despots and terrorists his first year in office)and Hillary is a socialist...
This is a no-brainer.

Paulo

A pro-choice, pro-gay rights, pro-gun control candidate cannot win the Republican nomination.

Yes, Guiliani can win the GOP nomination and the presidency. Does he have some baggage? Yes, but lately for any candidate it seems, "who doesn't?" Do I agree with his stance on every position? No. Do I agree with him on many key issues? Yes.
Go Rudy!!

"Baracky is too inexperienced(he wants to meet with dictators, despots and terrorists his first year in office)"

George W. Bush ,met with the following dictators, despots and terrorists at the White House during his first year in office:

King Abdullah II - Jordan

President Hosni Mubarak - Egypt

President Geidar Aliev - Azerbaijan

Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani - Qatar

President Pervez Musharraf - Pakistan

President Nursultan Nazarbayev - Kazakhstan

Yes, it seems unlikely that a dare we say socially liberal candidate could win the GOP nomination but these are exceptional times in terms of voter dissatisfaction and history shows that its possible. Though I can't say I would agree with with position on the war, I think his nomination could at least go along way to helping bring the national conversation to the rational middle, which is where I think the majority of Americans want to be.

LOL -- if you knew what we here in NYC know about Rudy you'd have laughed him off the stage long ago!!

It's really quite frightening that Rudy has gotten this far - it is however a testiment to a great media campaign - selling you a Rudy that doesn't exist!!The media perception of Rudy of Judy-n-Rudy infamy is mass-produced one not reality - just a good likeness!!

And this is from someone who voted 2x for him as Mayor!!

Wanna vote for Rudy? Do a teeney bit more research and well I promise you won't like what you find!

Why in god's name would anyone outside of the hopeless 26%'s vote for another Republican President? They've proven they can't govern and there's no reason to believe that Rudy would be much better than warmonger Bush.

And, in a story that should enrage my fellow bloggers who are paying through the nose for crappy broadband service, hope you've stocked up on "freedom fries" to nosh on while your Internet content downloads:

Rudy can't win, because eventually people will figure out what a fraud he is. Firefighters in New York will attest to this. He took a tragedy like 9/11 straight to his wallet with his security firms...don't forget that GWB was very popular after 9/11. People also dismiss that his supposed "clean up" of New York was done with the programs of predecessor David Dinkins, gentrification of Manhattan and federal $ provided by the Clinton administration.

Let the Republicans nominate this Mr. Giuliani. The man believes he's entitled to be president because he was mayor of NYC on Sept. 11th and ventured down to ground zero after the attacks. He has a closet full of skeletons and is the least qualified out of all candidates in both parties to be nominated. This is the best they can do, huh??-What a bunch of losers. It appears more and more likely that Hillary will be the next President.

Paulo, can you take your head out of your *&%$#@ long enough to answer this question? If Clinton and Obama are always asked about their ethnicity or gender as factors in electability, why should'nt Rudolpho be asked about his ethnicity as a factor? I'm sure the wasps have zeroed in on that albeit not in public.

Hey Paulo,

Other than the (R) next to his name why would you vote for a liberal like Rudy?

Of course Rudy can win, primarily because he isn't Hillary. Although Hillary leads in the Democratic Party primary (for now), she has a dislike factor that rivals that of the current President. Obama may be green, but he does not have this lead weight (and his army of supporters are energized, active, and committed).

In fairness, Hillary Clinton has done well at the debates, and is running a good campaign. Her baggage with many Americans may be too much to overcome, and she does very poorly with American men, and conservative women.

Rudy will do well if he can maintain the conservatives and "religious right", and he is not the same kind of Republican as Bush-Cheney (big oil). Whether or not Americans will see this difference remains to be seen.

While my favorites (Richardson, Biden, and McCain) seem dead in the water at this point, if Hillary gets the nomination, a solid Republican with moderate views like Rudy have a genuine shot. Still, Obama is not going away (but i wish Edwards would). Will be interesting.

If it took him 14 years to figure out he married his cousin,i'd say he's almost as sharp as Bushie.

This Democrat might actually vote GOP for president for the first time if it's Rudy who is their nominee. I'm not enthralled with our crop of candidates. I'm still holding out hope for Gore to run. But if it is Rudy v. Hill, Obama or Edwards, I'll be punching GOP for the first time.

I love how Rudy wants people to focus on his record instead of his personal life. Like he and the other GOP focussed on the greatest period of peace and prosperity in our history instead of President Clinton's personal life...

I love how many hypocrites are actually on this board. Finally their is a candidate who represents real change like Guliani. There has never been a candidate that has a reach across party lines the way that Rudy does. If you want real change you would elect Guliani. Obama's record looks like a joke next to Guliani's. Guliani has accomplished real results as both mayor of NY and as a prosecuter. He rose from humble beginnings to become the greatest mayor in NY history. To the guy who states that he lives in NY and that NYorkers hate Rudy. I got news for you buddy, NY Loves RUdy and it shows by the fact that he is a Republican and was elected in the most liberal city in the world. Right now Rudy is the best man for the job. He is not a media creation like Obama and he has not built a career on being married to someone like Hillary, I like HIllary but if Rudy wins he has my vote for now.

All any wannabe has to do is say, their from "outside the beltway", believes there is too much partisanship in government, and believes themself to be a "uniter, not a divider".
It worked for a Texas Governor with absolutely no experience in 2000, why wouldn't it work for a NY Mayor with no experience in 2008? If the wannabe's a republican, all the better. That party has a better class of sheep.

Hey Vinny,

You sound like you're on Rudy's payroll. Maybe you were part of his SS police force back in the day.

Leave it to the demented twin (dt) to send us links to Rolling Stone and some left wing blog as sound sources of information.

Really, why don't you Loons just move to Venezuala? You know you'll be much happier so just do it!

Vinny,

If NY loves Rudy so much, why is Hillary trouncing him in polls of NY voters?
Media creation? After 9/11 Rudy did everything to get his mug on tv, and the networks put him on a pedastool. They will also take him down soon, exposing all of his skeletons which included failing to upgrade Fireman communication systems years in advance of 9/11, despite the wishes of the FDNY. Rudy is a fraud!

John D is right. Loons need to all move away. Bruce has statisticly accurate polls that the Trib won't show you to confirm this and Jerry White has it from a good source that the last time GWB was talking to God, God told him that this was what he wanted done.
Case closed. Next case.

Rudy is polling ahead of the 2 Democratc Rock Stars, and that undoubtedly causes a lot of worry at DNC HQ.

Larry and Vinny are right. Ordinary working stiffs who normally vote Democratic (as opposed to the obsessive bloggers who post here) are likely to choose him over of that piece of fluff Obama or Clinton with her hefty disapproval rating.

And I've challenged you on several occasions to provide links to support claims you've made in your posts, such as the one where you claim John Edwards spends thousands of dollars on his suits, just like George Bush does. We're STILL WAITING for those links; when will you provide them?

BTW, here's MY PROOF that Dubya spends way too much on his clothes:

Latest Fox News "Biased and unbalanced" Network Poll has Clinton beating Rudy.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,289970,00.html

Republicans better understand that a Hillary/Rudy matchup poses problems for them for this reason:

Rudy has a lot of baggage that the American people haven't heard yet and there will be hard challenges from the right of his party that will expose this long before Dems do.
All Hillary Clinton has to do is prove to the American people that she's not the "Boogey Man" that Republicans paint her to be. She wanted universal health care for Americans...she's pure evil.

BC, how much do you think Edwards pays for his suits? And where do you think Edwards gets his suits from? Sears? JC Penney? Wal-Mart? Kohls?
BC, the man has a 30,000-square-foot-house. He has paid 1,200 for a haircut ($400 for the haircut, and then planefare and hotel for the night, all according to the guy who cuts his hair). So if Edwards has a 30,000-square-foot-house that is valued at $8 million and thinks nothing of flying his hair stylist all over the country to cut his hair, please tell us what you think John Edwards pays for his suits?

Rudy "Samsonite" Giuliani can't win the Republican nomination, much less a general election.

MORE INCOHERENT, UPPER CASE RAMBLINGS FROM REAROSE!

YOU LOONY LEFTIES ARE MAKING THIS WAY TOO EASY!

John D:

I see that you have refused to answer the question. YOU'RE THE PERSON who said that Edwards pays as much as Bush does on his suits. I provided the link to the article on the web site of the company that makes them as to how much Bush pays for his suits, to counter the constant whining about the costs of Edwards' haircuts.

I challenged you to provide proof that Edwards' suits cost as much as Bush's.

You didn't.

Instead, you try to get me to find out the answer to that question. Personally, I don't care Edwards pays for his suits or haircuts - only people like you obsess about the numbers.

You call yourself a journalist, yet you failed to do the research to back up your allegation?

Nice try, but no cigar.

i don't understand this...

how can anyone who thinks bush is a disaster not hold the republican party to account for their iron-clad support for the last 6 years...

i hated bush from the beginning, but hey, i'm very very liberal... but come on, the guy turned out to be a nightmare of a loser president and the GOP just defended him from any and all criticism or oversight...

now you are going to pretend that the GOP didn't fail america as much as bush did by association?

that is a myopia which borders on the absurd...

vinny--

they may love him in staten island but he's not too well liked where i'm living...

greatest mayor in nyc??? what a F'ing joke!! first go wash your mouth out with soap-- then go get an encyclopedia, or just surf over to wikipedia and look up Fiorello H. LaGuardia...

now that was a great mayor, republican too, tho of a different breed than the slime of today...

giulliani is a racist peice of trash who gave the racist new yorkers red meat to chew on counitng on the fact that poor people don't vote...

what has he accomplished? turning haitians away while allowing anti-castro cuban sludge to come in?

covering for a police force that enjoys ramming ppl in their anuses with toilet plunger handles?

or maybe overriding security experts opinions and placing the 'command bunker' in a known terrorist target because he like to have the swanky downtown manhatten address?

oh, i know! his greatest single acheivement must be the secret and rapid removal of all of the forensic steel evidence from the twin towers collapse...

let rudy ghouliani run! watch the firefighters and policemen (i think they have a little respect nationwide at this point) rip him a new hole...

don't get me wrong-- i'll take rudy over some beady eyed false christian right wing freak... but that is about all i can say positive about him...

the GOP must be punished... the balance between the executive and the legislature must be restored... ghouliani is too much of a megalomaniac to inherit the absurdly expanded executive power this current monster in the white house will likely hand over...

Gore/Obama in '08-- that gives us 8 years of gore and 8 more years with a groomed obama after that...
