The Swamp

by Mark Silva

There ought to be a big RNC birthday card arriving at Camp David today, because that's where President Bush is marking his 61st birthday.

His overnight stay at Camp David tonight marks the 387th day on which he has spent all or part of a day at the presidential retreat in the Maryland mountains once known as Shangri-La during his two terms as president. He has spent all or part of 418 days at his ranch in Texas, just 35 at his parents' place in Kennebunkport.

"In our family, birthdays are special occasions that always include family and close friends,'' First Lady Laura Bush wrote in a recent e-mail to Republican "loyal supporters.''

As far as gifts go, the president's wife suggested a donation of $61 to the Republican National Committee in honor of the president's 61st birthday today -- "a gift our entire party can share.'' Or $25, $75... or even $1,000, "whatever you can afford.'' I

It will, she said, go a long way toward "helping the RNC lay the foundation for electing more Republicans in the 2007 state and 2008 national elections.''

It also earned donors a name on the "RNC's Birthday e-card to George.''

I'm motivated too.

I think I'll give $61 to the DNC and Obama campaign.

Happy Birthday Jorge!

I can only imagine what "skooter" will give George. Maybe the same thing Monica gave Bill.

387 + 415 + 35 = 840.

More than two years out of six in office on vacation??? (Remember August 10, 2001?? Bin-Laden using planes to strike at America? Georgie was in Texas that day).

How do I get THAT job?

Hey Mark, how many days did Clintoon spend at Camp David? Also, how many days did Clintoon spend away from the White House? How many days did Clintoon spend at his home while president? Ooops, I'm sorry, until 2000, the Clintoons never owned their own home.
And Mark, how many times have foreign visitors been to Camp David and the Crawford ranch?

Hey Little Johnny Nutcase,Clintoon also left office with a close to 70% approval rating.

Get over it Repub ilk, this guy is a lazy little dummy from the Northeast US.

What a stupid thing to track- there is an apparently little known cultural wave spreading over the country and the presidents office is not untouched- this horrible scourge is called - telecommuting. Imagine what kind of broadband access POTUS has! The president does not have to be in washington to do his job. Out of Washington doesn't always mean on Vacation-

The real problem is the amount of time that CONGRESS spends away from Washington. Why are we not counting those days? Of course I appreciate this congress staying out of session as much as possible- the fewer non-binding resolutions the better!

BobinATL - what is the significance of August 10, 2001?

Hey Johnny!!!

It has already been shown that Bush has spent more time away from the White House on non-govenment time than ANY othe President.

So what does Bill Clinton have to do with that?

1. It is tacky to ask for presents.

2. Bush knows a moving target is harder to hit. That is why he never stays in one place very long.

GWB was born and then was reborn, perhaps George Senior and Barb should try one more time and this time W will get a brain.

Funny, Mark edited out my last question which was how many days did Billy Boy get his wee-wee taken care of by Monica. Come on, Mark, the real words were in the newspapers then. Why so chicken now?

Also, Dumbocrats, your Boy Governor does not live in Springfield. In fact, he rarely is in Springfield. In nearly five years you can count on your hands and feet (the only way liberals can count, by the way) how many nights he has spent in Springfield. So approximately 1500 days as governor, Blablooeyavitch has been in Springfield less than 20 days???

Hey John D. you must have a secret admiration for Bill Clinton. I have to laugh. I mean, you just can't stop talking about him. He really gets your undies in a knot, huh?? What does Bill Clinton have to do with moron Bush's BDay?? Bill Clinton's approval rating was 65% when he left office. I would even say he would have been elected for a 3rd term, if that was allowed. Bush, on the other hand, will be the very worst President this country has ever had. Hopefully he will be impeached and prosecuted. As a birthday gift...I say he gears up and heads out to patrol the streets of Baghdad for the next 61 days. After that he can go to his daddies ranch in Crawford Texas for a few months for R&R.

Other than the cost of moving POTUS around, I really don't see what the brouhaha is all about.

Regardless of where POTUS is, communications capabilities are instantaneous. The nuclear "football" codes are literally a few minutes if not seconds away. The ability to be on Air Force One is minutes away.

Am I missing something?

Exactly who is Bill and who is George?
I was watching the Cubs play the Nationals on Thursday 05 July and some guy named George was at the game.
Is he a Cubs fan?

Invoking the name of Bill Clinton only highlights the hypocrisy of the Bush Bashers. None of vitriol and criticizm were heard from the media when Bubba was in office

If ONLY he were telecommuting instead of biking with Lance Armstrong, clearing brush, and ignoring grieving mothers who want to speak to him about their children's unnecessary deaths. These are just the places Dick & Karl send him to stay out of their way while the country drowns (both literally and figuratively).

Bill Clinton arguments don't help here. President Bush sold himself as a better man. And two wrongs don't make a right.

Last I checked, we were at some kind of war and any decent man would spend every waking moment as President engaged in winning that war, something very difficult to do because he doesn't realize we didn't already win it.

August 10, 2001? - read my post as to what is significant about it.

As for Bush and computers, I somehow have the feeling that the only thing on his screen is an unfinished game of solitaire.

bobin atl= like Bush made 9/11 happen-or could do anything about it-wake up Clinton allowed attacks on the Us to mount and they knew they could get away with it-or did you forget all that?convenient of you.

Doug Z: Great Idea! Give $61 to any politico who is NOT George! Better yet, to some worthwhile charity.

BobinATL-

Ok- I'll bite- do you mean September 10 or August 10? I am assuming this is meant to support the " Bush did it" left wing dream scenario?

dld1,

"Bin Laden determined to attack inside the U.S." might have had something to do with. Perhaps you should read the 9/11 Commission Report over the weekend to actually get a clue.

I doubt Brush Clearer Guy spends much time presidentin' when in Crawford or Camp David. Actually, the world is better off the less he tries to do his job.

As for August 2001, this is what BobinATL is referring to:

http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0409041pdb1.html

No cause for alarm there. And don't forget that, according to the Washington Post, W was on vacation 40% of the time in the first nine months leading up to 9/11.

And some of you partisan mental midgets actually voted for the fool again in 2004. See ya later in 08.

Hey, kids! Can you just imagine the party mood there in the Camp David Bunker. I'll bet it was more festive at Der Fuhrer's 1945 b-day party in Berlin! George...you are a lost cause. Do us all a favor!

Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you

You look like a monkey
and you smell like one, too.

bobinATL, what happened on August 10, 2001?

did1:

Punctuation. Try it.

But did Bush or did he not ignore that PDB?? Answer that one.

Plus who was President on 9/11?? It was on his watch, not Clinton's. He was too busy worrying about Saddam.

Oh, and by the way - the mastermind of the 1993 WTC attack that happened when Clinton was President is in jail - where is Osama???

Bush knows how to use a computer?

Bush knows how to use a computer?

It's going to take a lot more than a $61 donation from every Republican voter in America to help the GOP. The Republicans have cornered themselves with the mess that they've created in Iraq and attacking gays, immigrants and anyone that they deem to be morally corrupt. The hypocrisy that Republicans have displayed by holding the Bible in one hand and waging wars, and attacking anyone that doesn't agree with them has finally created a national backlash.

Hey yall,
If you are searching for gift ideas for the Preznit a court recently ruled that there is a First Amendment right to mail feces to politians. You can Google it if you don't believe me.

If Bush was unable to prevent 9/11, then Clinton had nothing to do with terrorist attacks during his administration. If Clinton was negligent in stopping terrorist attacks, Bush was negligent in not preventing 9/11. You get ONE set of facts, ONE string of logic.

Anne, I know you didn't intend it, but this is/these are the funniest post(s) of the week.

Ah the adult behavior and intelligence of the Loony Left:

Happy birthday to you

Really, you weirdos are so useless, don't you think it would be better to just give up. As Bill Maher recently said, "If the Loony Left did not exist, this planet would be much happier and safer place."

I think impeachment would be a great birthday present for Americas most shameless president. That or John D as a shrub on the Whitehouse lawn.

I can only imagine what "skooter" will give George. Maybe the same thing Monica gave Bill.

Dammit Bill! I laughed so hard when I read this there were literally tears coming down my face. I laughed so hard I woke my boyfriend.

After being Cheney's boy for years, Scooter probably has a more experienced technique than Monica. Should make George's birthday "happy".

John D that is the pot calling the Kettle black. You are clearly a very angry and deranged individual. You are clearly upset at the fact that the leaders you elected are losers who have betrayed the public trust in so many ways. Yet like any insane person you continue to do the same thing over and over expecting a different result. The Bush administration is rewriting the book on corruption but still you rail onward defending them like a bilge rat on a drowning ship. I wish the President would give the American people the gift of resigning but alas he hasn't got the patriotism to do so. History will show this Whitehouse to be what it is, an all new low in so-called leadership. Morally bankrupt and corrupt. Continue to attack the loony left, otherwise known as clearsighted adults.

Mr. No Logic, I am not an angry person. Actually quite the opposite. Now, yes, the weirdo Loony Left does disgust me to my very core, but that is the case with any rational-thinking person.

And I do love Mark Silva and his censor gang. Funny that me mentioning Bill getting his wee-wee played with by Monica was originally censored, yet all of these Loony Lefters talking about Scooter Libby, Dick Cheney and George Bush playing with each other's wee-wee is OK??
So, Trib, the TRUE story of Bill's wee-wee is censorable, but the made-up stories are OK??

John D,

Why don't we get together twice this week to discuss your obsession?

(Carly simon)

It's all of our birthdays this summer
One number older, another year younger
I'll go to your party, you'll come to mine
We've given up cigarettes, we've given up wine
We've given up caffeine and sworn off desserts
I don't try to seduce you, we don't even flirt
We're too good to be happy, too straight to be sad
So just blow out the candles, happy birthday

Stay out of the ocean, stay out of the sun
Stay in perfect shape and be number one
We've got brilliant excuses for having no fun
So blow out the candles, happy birthday

Make love in the microwave
Think of all the time you'll save
And don't forget to make it look
As though you're working very very hard

But I'll be your lover if you will be mine
We'll go back to the garden and have a good time
And if I'm offered an apple, I'll politely decline
And just blow out the candles
Happy birthday
