Sen. Chris Dodd's rhetorical dust-up with Fox talk show host Bill O'Reilly this week makes him a hero in the eyes of some Democrats assembling around the room at the Yearly Kos.
Yet comedian and commentator Dennis Miller has told O'Reilly he is "disappointed that you would give a hack like that a toehold, and for you to let him come in and sandbag you like that."
For more on the spin-off from that gloves-off encounter, see the Courant's account today:
By David Lightman
Courant Washington Bureau Chief
U.S. Sen. Christopher Dodd's forces claimed victory over talk show host Bill O'Reilly on Friday.
O'Reilly's allies disagreed.
The two engaged in a virtual shout-fest on O'Reilly's national radio and television shows Thursday.
Afterward, comedian and commentator Dennis Miller told O'Reilly that he was "disappointed that you would give a hack like that a toehold, and for you to let him come in and sandbag you like that."
And, Miller said, the Connecticut Democrat was "boring, he was tedious, and he just wanted to rip off his glove and smack you in the face because at the DailyKos event next week, this will make him a big man."
Democratic-leaning blogs disagreed.
"Bill-O picked the wrong target," Taylor Marsh wrote on the Huffington Post. "Now he's looking around for something to sit on because a man named Chris Dodd just handed his ass to him."
Dodd is headed to the Yearly Kos convention in Chicago this weekend, along with most other Democratic presidential candidates.
He expects a hero's welcome.
Spokeswoman Colleen Flanagan said that in the 24 hours since O'Reilly first aired, the campaign has had about a 400 percent increase in Web traffic, and about five times the number of contributors in a given night.
At the convention Friday, Dodd campaign blogger Matt Browner-Hamlin reported, "Everywhere I go, I'm seeing people gathered around a laptop, watching Chris Dodd take on Bill O'Reilly."

I think it is a riot that someone from "faux News", had the audacity to complain about negativity. I guess a "FOX" smells his own stink.

It's not the first time Billy O got reamed.
Al Franken handed him a$$ also.
Dennis Miller? He must be off praying somewhere this morning with his soul mate Pat Robertson or that Dobson freak.

I've got a collect obscene phone call for anybody from Bill O....will you accept the charges?

Dennis Miller hasn't been worthy of the title comedian since Joanie dated Chachi.

With the possible exception of Rush Limbaugh, nobody, BUT NOBODY, is a bigger on-air/radio Ahole than O'Reilly.
And they are both pathological liars. Why anyone listens to these vile, poor excuses for human beings is a mystery to me.

Doodie stirred this faux fight up in order to get the Kos nutroots fired up. He's at 1% in the polls, so he figured he had nothing to lose.
It's all a campaign stunt, by a politician whose supporters could fit into a phone booth.
And BTW, nutroots, your counterparts on the right are chortling at how O'Reilly reamed Doodie's posterior.

Wow, that was a challenge. Rip into a conservative, how hard is that? Logic & common sense hasn't existed with conservatives since the days of Reagan.
Just leave whatever conservatives are left on the right-winged fringe of the political playing field & everyone else play ball.

I agree with Dennis Miller...why give a nut like Chris Dudd a platform to spew his non-sense on,by far and away, cable's #1 news program.
I'd rather see Barack "Hussein" Obama explain why he feels it's right to invade Pakistan,a nation of 170 million Muslims with nuclear war-heads.
Way to go Barack, keep our ally's close...you goof!

Retired comedian Dennis Miller pretty much admitted that Bill-O and Fox Noise Channel got their arses handed to them.
Daily Kos is going to make mucho dinero off of Bill-O's slobbering rightwing rants.
Thanks Wingnuts!

Because that's where Osama bin-Laden, the mastermind behind 9/11, is hiding?
Is the new RNC talking point to ignore bin-Laden and insult Obama?
Posted by: BC | August 4, 2007 1:50 PM
Al Franken absolutely owned O'Reilly, so this is nothing new.
I find it odd that this story is reported as Left vs. Right by so many places online. To me, it was simply someone confronting a liar and setting the record straight.
LOL @ Dennis Miller's current politics...

Yeah...I don't get it. All the talk about tough on terrorism, and they won't go after Al-Qaeda or Bin Laden. They can threaten to blow Pakistan off the map in the begining, but now it's a whole other story. Had they gone in before they went into Iraq, they wouldn't have as much problem with world opinion then as they do now after goining in to Iraq. What happened to the "tough on terrorist" people? Now I will get a lot of responses saying that you'll hurt Pakistan, but you didn't much care before...why now?
Posted by: bill r. | August 4, 2007 4:57 PM
It's easy to insult either Osama or Obama...one is dead and the other is dead politically...you choose.
Now,go back to your Yearly Kos meeting!
Oh,it was just on the news,An American Soldier(in uniform) was thrown out of the Yeary Kos meeting for trying to tell the truth about Iraq!
*Ahhh,Freedom of Speech*

From the November 8 broadcast of Fox News' The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly:
O'REILLY: Hey, you know, if you want to ban military recruiting, fine, but I'm not going to give you another nickel of federal money. You know, if I'm the president of the United States, I walk right into Union Square, I set up my little presidential podium, and I say, "Listen, citizens of San Francisco, if you vote against military recruiting, you're not going to get another nickel in federal funds. Fine. You want to be your own country? Go right ahead."
And if Al Qaeda comes in here and blows you up, we're not going to do anything about it. We're going to say, look, every other place in America is off limits to you, except San Francisco. You want to blow up the Coit Tower? Go ahead.
Does Bush learn parsing from Bill-O or Paul-O?

Ah the maniacal rantings from the Loony Left pollutes life again.
First of all, Dudd didn't prevail against O'Reilly. He showed once again what a loser he is in not condemning some of the crap that the sickest of society (Loony Left) dispenses on there. Shoot, there's plenty of hate-filled, ignorant, BS coming from the sick Loony Left here.
Al Franken didn't prevail against O'Reilly either. Anyway, the final proof is that Stuart Smalley has failed as a comedian. He failed as a radio host on Air UnAmerica. And, he will fail in his attempt to become a senator.
The sick little demented surreal world that is the Loony Left. It would be laughable how pathetic you folks are if it wasn't so damn sad and scary.

"Is the new RNC talking point to ignore bin-Laden and insult Obama?"
Is this the new talking point of the DNC?
"They can threaten to blow Pakistan off the map in the beginning, but now it's a whole other story."
I don't know about blowing it off the map. Actually, I do, however, remember that when people debated the invasion it was said in academia (and argued by the left, some right) that the intersection of WMD, likelihood to pass off, and regime practice in Pakistan was a lot more substantial than in Iraq. It was noted that the only time that Saddam would use WMD (other than his people or Iran) against the US would be if we tried to overthrow him. I imagine that the reason Bush (his advisers) were so sure of Iraq as to commit ground troops into Iraq, more in direct harms way than let's say the air campaigns of the 90's, was bc the likelihood of use was lower, and Saddam really didn't have that much substance in terms of WMD; as much as a specific relationship to the US that the US wanted to terminate; seeing at the same time other merit in it. Obviously a ground assault is more risky if WMD are involved.
"What happened to the "tough on terrorist" people?"
I don't know. They woke up in the democratic party. Now it would be nice if the Rep side who is going with the broader "terrorism war" and if the DNC who is going with the narrow "terrorism war" could get to a middle ground so that the war on terror doesn't become abstract (waged on less legitimate ground but compensated by other political or geopolitical purposes and understanding) or impractical (waged on legitimate grounds but undermined by lack of political or geopolitical purposes or understanding.) Both irrelevant to the responsibilities past what it is they are trying to accomplish. Which is funny bc in a broad war on terror you would think that both would realize the need to stabilize the region they might send into turmoil. Unless their intention is to do what the came for (doesn't matter if it is democracy or osama), and forget the possible turmoil they are leaving as a consequence of their poor attempts or narrow strategy leavening behind areas where terrorism will be quite alive. And in the war on terror the only people doomed to suffer will be the regional populations whose politics will be determined by kidnappings and ransom, whose electricity and water lines will be targeted by terror tactics, and whose ability to participate in daily society will be highlighted by people willing to set themselves off in a market. It will be so easy for individuals who are willing to take terror as a tool for their political grievances to subvert regional populations we left idle past what we were aiming to do; possibly furthering their aims to in the end target the West again. Let us face it none of the politicians have a real grasp on the war on terror. They play it to the beat of their own drum and none of them seems to be really fighting the war on terror in the long run.
"Now I will get a lot of responses saying that you'll hurt Pakistan, but you didn't much care before...why now?"
Why do you say that?? And why does everyone on this blog routinely think that the opposite of what your saying must mean the opposite political leaning, and then link it to broader block-like perception they have of that party (or parties relationship). I guess it's not possible to be left or right and agree to extents of something. I didn't know that the world was two dimensional. Is the world flat to the right as it is two dimensional to the left? Is this one of the gifts of this administration?
Back to your question. I don't think it has anything to do with "hurting Pakistan." The relationships that countries have and the order in the world shouldn't be chucked up to descriptions we use to describe friendships. Not only are they more complex than that, but they carry a lot of weight. If Obama cared bc the issue is so important he would have voiced his stance in a way that; a) wouldn't have jeopardized or be negligent of any "pressure" tactics that the current leadership was employing b) not jump the gun forgetting he might want that option, and do it better (better or different doesn't mean doing a one eighty; though visible its not practical when cases are salvageable; and he's a diplomatic "genius" supposedly) c) he's not in a position to "saber rattle" yet as a running candidate; especially since he isn't in a position to back that up; it wastes precious time that could be spent more constructively as current member of gov in that capacity d) this would only work after 9/11 not six years later when the world was more on our side f) He could have said something like," Americans have not forgotten Osama. I feel this administration has, and should I be elected I want Americans to know I will make this a priority." What he said amounted to, "If I am elected I will bomb N.Korea with or without their reemission." Obama routinely tires to show how above he is, and how different that this administration. In the process the lack of verbal graces burns him.
If it is that import to Obama (he sees the danger in letting it slide certainly until 09) and he is that much of a "wiz" "talent" as a leader and diplomacy savy (what he wants ot be elected for) he doesn't and can not afford to use this as a political posture. He is in gov, and he still could have put his talents to work behind doors. The issue if a pressing one needs to addressed before 09, and we can not afford spending that time with the issue on the campaign trail when it could be equally enough more constructive when deal with now. Not threatening a country or calling out country. Obamas beef is with the president, and that is where any of his saber rattling speeches should have began; before jumping ahead. He is certainly not being any wiser or creative or fresh by opting for the route he did.

Ahhh, now I know what the nutwing pillow was talking about. A soldier IN UNIFORM approached Wesley Clark at YKos, and started lecturing him about Iraq policy. Apparently, the soldier didn't know it is illegal to voice a political opinion while in uniform. The Fed's know that, because that other Iraq veteran opposed to the illegal occupation in Iraq was arrested and charged by the military for doing the same thing. (I agree with his protest, but think he shoulda used a different costume. Like earboy covered in Iraqi blood.)
So pillow, is it only infringing on free speech when libs do it to connies, or is it always infringing, even when the mis-administration of earboy and president dickie do it to a lib protester? Cause if it is always infringement, I need to see your negative comment aboout the mis-administration's illegal actions. Can't have it both ways mr. geography.
And, oh by the way, in certain cases, PRIVATE organizations DO get to infringe on free speech, but the Feds almost never, never, never do. So the action against the uniformed protester of the illegal occupation of Iraq was even more infringed upon than the guy at YKos. So in either case, no matter what, do us all a favor, and go away until you learn how to think.
