The Swamp

by John McCormick

Tribune reporter David Mendell is expected to be on NBC's Meet the Press Sunday for a round-table discussion on the Democratic presidential candidates. He is the author of a soon-to-be-released book on Sen. Barack Obama.

Mendell covered Obama during his 2004 campaign for U.S. Senate in Illinois and started the book shortly after that race was over. He will be joined by author Carl Bernstein, Christian Broadcasting Network's David Brody and presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin.

The book, Obama: From Promise to Power, is due out online and in bookstores on Aug. 14. Mendell will be doing various book signings and related appearances in the Chicago area and in New York.

A Mendell appearance on ABC's Good Morning America is also in the works.

Here are some links to past Swamp posts on the book: link1 and link2.

I think it's wonderful that the Swamp is interrupting its free publicity for Obama to give us readers free publicity for Obama's biography.

Bruce,
I might be able to get you an author-signed copy of the copy of the book. Let me know if you're game.

RNC Bruce,

You poor pathetic twit.

Poor Brucie, he's paid so much money by the RNC to smear Senator Obama....and he's failing miserably.

I hope Mendell does not come across as one of your editors has done on TV as
a spokesman for the left. Hopefully, Mendell will not gush over Obama, but will give a realistic discussion of his strengths and his weaknesses.

Thanks for the offer, Mark. And if you do, I'll give you an autographed copy of my own book.

Mark Silva,
Maybe you could get President Musharraf an author-signed copy of the book too!

Doogie, such a nice sentiments and debating skills there.

Deranged Johnny E.: I think Barack has done a good enough job destroying his candidacy in the past week. The RNC nor Bruce needs to help Barack. He's doing a fine job undoing himself.

Let me know if you're game.

He got no game.

This is the fourth Swamp article promoting fellow reporter Mendell and his forthcoming Obama bio.

That's more Swamp articles on Mendell's book than articles about Obama's controversial "no nukes" pledge, or his controversial "invade Pakistan" speech. That's more Swamp articles about Mendell's book than articles about half the candidates for president.

Mr. Mendell, along with his publisher and his bank account, is doubtless delighted to receive all this free publicity from his fellow "journalists".

Bruce, you're on. Thanks. Aug. 14 is the release date, it appears. You've got my email, send me a snail mail address.

I hope David Mendell gives adequate space to the Tony Rezko era in Obama's life wich spanned 17 years and don't forget the Kenwood Mansion. Jerry White, Springfield, IL

John D.,

Do you have deal with RNC Bruce do do his dirty work. Why can't the twit defend himself?

John D.,

I forgot another thing. You giving anyone grief on debating is absolutely laughable.

You house is glass.

Thanks for the offer, Mark. And if you do, I'll give you an autographed copy of my own book.

Brucie has a book deal? ahahahahohohsnort.. snort snort.....stop it....Brucie you're killing me....wait a minute...ahahahhohohahahahaha!

Bruce, do you "write" under the name "Bill Krystal"?

Mark,

When you get his book, let us know if Bruce colored within the lines.

I guess I crossed the line somewhere. But, believe it or not, Bruce is capable of some scholarly work when he's not being a shill for the RNC. So that Bruce won't feel slighted by all the attention on Mendell, here's a link to Bruce's book:

One of the most moving experiences I've ever had was visiting the Civil War battlefields in my youth. Too bad neocon warmongers have diminished the horrible sacrifices of that struggle by comparing it to Bush's war of choice, or for that matter, Bush to Lincoln.

Mark Silva,

Here's RNC Bruce's snail mail address:

RNC Bruce, in advance, you're welcome.

Hey!!!

Amazon did not disclose the political affiliations and contributions histories of the commenters about Bruce's book. Using his logic, it must be crap.

kb,
RNC bruce has described himself as a former leftist. My guess is that he's a former Dixiecrat (hardly liberal) that bailed the party like many southern Dems. over civil rights legislation in the 60's.

Perhaps his interest in the Confederate generals goes beyond an intellectual one. Maybe he wished the South would have prevailed.
