In court documents filed today, disgraced Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick admitted to killing dogs as part of a dogfighting ring in southeastern Virginia. He also said he provided most of the funding for the operation and the gambling that went with it.

Vick, who was also indicted under his dogfighting nickname "Ookie," however denied that he himself wagered on the dogs or was involved in taking side bets. That fact could be crucial when Vick is separately punished by the National Football League for his conduct.

Vick is expected to plead guily to a conspiracy charge related to the dogfighting ring in a Richmond federal court on Monday. He could receive a year to 18 months in prison.

I hope he never gets out of jail! I hope he dies there! I hope the guards go all "abu graib" on him and have their dogs knaw off his body parts one at a time.

Sound harsh? Just the truth. I see too many dogs cast off from the sick animals that run these dog fights to have any pity on monsters like this guy.

Nisleib, I agree with you. But also haven't you been one of those busting my tail over the fact I don't care if head-chopping terrorists get treated poorly?

There is no doubt Vick deserves whatever comes his way and then some (I still think he'll get no more than a 2-year ban by the NFL), but the head-chopping terrorists are just as bad, if not worse than Vick.

No, I really don't much care what happens to "head chopping terrorists." As a matter of fact the President (any President) should be allowed, under unusual circumstances, to torture people. What shouldn't happen, and what did happen, was that torture became the Standard Operating Procedure. Combine that with the fact that, what was it, 94% of the people in Abu Graib had nothing to do with terrorists, and didn't belong there in the first place, and you have a mess. You also have motivation to turn otherwise harmless people into insurgents/terrorists. If your teenage daughter/son was raped with a light stick wouldn't you want to chuck a bomb or two at the people you thought were responsible? Our enemies in Iraq grew exponentially because of torture. For every scumbag we caught using torture we created many to take their place.

But Vick, and dog fighting, is NOT a political issue. I doubt most of the people who fight dogs, or like watching dogs fight, even vote. Nobody can lay the blame of this atrocious act on a political party.

I loath Bush, but this isn't his fault. The dogs I take in that are emaciated and covered in scars; they aren't the victims of political wrong doing. They are the victims of a sickness of the human spirit. They are the victims of animals like Vick. I hope they make an “example” out of Vick. Give him the maximum sentence. Don’t let him back in the NFL. Confiscate all of his belongings, sell them off, donate the money to local dog rescue organizations.

But also haven't you been one of those busting my tail over the fact I don't care if head-chopping terrorists get treated poorly?

First you have to prove they're head chopping terrorists. That's what makes us better than them. Ya get it??? Oh yea and Mick Vick is a scum-sucking lowlife piece of cr%p. He was over rated as a quarterback, and an embarrassment to the human race. Trash plain and simple.

He admits to killing dogs, but heaven forbid he should be indicted for gambling on them. Sick.

I, too, think Vick is a scum-bag.

I hope he receives the maximum punishment that the law allows. Of course, he won't, his lawyers will try to limit it.

It still appears as if he will get at least a year.

Regardless of what punishment the NFL gives, I don't believe he will ever play in the league again.

Had he only admitted to conspiracy and funding, maybe. But admitting he actually participated in the killing of dogs, no way a team will want him.

I despise what Vick did to those dogs. He should be banned from the NFL. Not because he is a monster but because he is a felon.
I don't know many jobs that would give a felon a job. Vick and his family is not in danger of starving. The public will live if they don't see him completing passes on Sunday

"that he himself wagered on the dogs or was involved in taking side bets. That fact could be crucial when Vick is separately punished by the National Football League for his conduct".

Boy, are you right, Ester. Sure, when Vick looks in the mirror he sees an abomonation.

But how about the NFL!?!. HOW MANY MONSTERS HAVE TURNED UP PLAYING FOR THEM!! I can think of 3 or 4 right off, easily.

That league gives me the creeps!

He belongs so deep in jail they have to feed him with a sling shot, get light to him with mirrors and pump oxygen to his deep prison cell. If we are lucky a politically ambitious judge will give him three years and the NFL will never have to be shown to have two levels of outrage. One for stars aand one for the ordinary player.

Vick is a scumbag and should not be able to play
in the NFL AT ALL

well, dogfighting is not something i would be involved in, it is a cruel and dangerous sport...however,i do feel this is way over blown...it is a sport that is big in the black community and what really is the difference between dogfighting and the killing of cows and chickens for food, they are not killed in a humane way,or fishing or hunting for sport? i eat meat and i have no problems with hunting or fishing,i wouldn't do it,just as i wouldn't be involved in dogfighting but i don't see the reason for the feds to be involved...esp. since the feds regulate the killing of unborn babies by doctors.lol...and who cares how we treat terrorists,i had to do 10 days in cook county jail for a dui and was hit by gaurds and i am a American...before we worrie how terrorists are treated why dont we worrie how Americans are treat in the prison system?

"MICHAEL VICK NOW THE NEXT O.J. OF AMERICA"

KOLBE GOT A DENVER REPRIVE BECAUSE HE LOVES DENVER OMELETTES. DMX IS BEING RAIDED IN ARIZONA AS WE BLOG. BARRY BONDS HAS TO URINE OUTSIDE JUST SO FORMER SENATORS OR CONGRESSMEN AREN'T UNDERNEATH HIM ATTEMPTING TO GET A BIG GULP OR TWO TO RUN BACK AND TEST WHY IT'S CLEAR URINE.

VICK WILL DO MORE TIME THAN ANY GOP CONGRESSMAN OR SENATOR.

THAT'S WHY ITS JUST ALL A JOKE.

GIVE ME A BREAK! BIG DEAL. WHO CARES - CAN THEM MEDIA FIND A BETTER DISTRACTION.

HEY 109TH CONGRESS, WHAT ABOUT THAT SECURE FENCE ACT OF 2006.

LETS PLAY FUTBOL/FOOTBALL.

While I agree with the majority of posters regarding the reprehensible behaviour of Michael Vick, let us not lose sight of other animals subject to abuse for "entertainment".

As President and co-founder of "Organ Grinders Are Sub-human Pigs" (OGAShuP) we are VERY proactive in making urban communities aware of the inhumane treatment of Capuchin monkeys that are enslaved by these so-called "musicians".

While little children may be almost entertained for 90 seconds by the antics of the monkey, few people realize that there are only 3 tunes actually written for the hurdy-gurdy, 3 tunes that the monkey is forced to listen to incessantly. That, the indignity of wearing that ridiculous fez and vest, (WITH NO pants!) forced to beg with a little tin cup...

Is this what 20th Century Man calls civilized??

I think... NOT!

Monkeys should never be forced to a life of beggary, not in My America.

At OGAShuP we match employers to monkeys. (I have a dossier of 10 careers, and growing, that can be easily handled by monkeys. At present I am monitoring the Shakespeare Project, an ambitious endeavour to reproduce the Bard's complete works. I am really not at liberty to discuss, but suffice to say, it involves keyboards).

I only ask that the monkeys be given a chance, and let them escape the shackles of bondage, and that bogus exaggerated Italian accent.

The only caveat for employers is to ensure that the pellet treat dispenser be closely monitored so that the monkey is always rewarded for good performance.

Thank you for your time and please give generously.

Sic the IRS on his butt!

yah brandon cows and chicken are routinely raised to be aggressive, usually baited on smaller lost pets for practice, and put in an enclosed or marked pit where they are jockeyed against an "opponent" until one is dead or seriously injured before ending up in your local meat supplier....

what is the difference between one and the other? probably the fact one as you said is a BLOODSPORT and the other is for food or sport(fishing). When an animal has to keep fighting to death in a brutal match or as many matches until its injuries impair it before it becomes useless to the owner it IS INHUMANE ..no food comes out of it or sport..just blood money
and the feds should get involved under gambling statues since BLOODSPORTS (dog fighting cock fighting sicking a dogs on hogs in an enclosed area till death)..not fishing and meat or chickens raised for food... has a lot of illegal money laundering associated with it , which is tied to the drug market , and which is tied to the market of illegal guns , and all that then tied to gangs ( they support themselves through gambling activities under the radar and all the stuff associated with it) .......

Fishing as a sport, and chickens and cows raised and killed for food ... not really tied to money laundering activities, drugs, illegal guns, and gangs.. like dog or cock fighting rings that are usually remedied under RICO statues ...

So Vick got caught up in activities that normally are attributed and linked to serious criminal activities that require the feds to step in..poor baby or anyone who happens to support the bloodsport..wa wa wa...please, anyone who happens to dabble in rings that generally have nothing to add to society but inhumane mutilating to death worthless use of animals and societal harms tied to it should be punished for endorsing a sport that funds drugs guns and gangs, typically, and devaluation of life, human or not...

Roger Morris yet again enthralls us all with his brilliant intellect and cogent commentary.

Roger, I think if your IQ were three points higher it would equal that of one of Vick's dogs.

At last something we can agree on!

Here's a suggestion: When you pay someone millions of dollars, see if he invites you to his home... or crib, as the case may be.

Then see how he treats his family and his pets; assuming he has pets for his kids.

If said superstar does not let you into his life or if he does not portray the values you share (i.e. berates the wife and kids and kicks the family pets), "LET HIM GO!"

If you keep him without seeing his home and/or sharing his values, then you are treating him like Vick treated his dogs - as entertainment items.

Kill him! Just stop him, and all scum like him from breathing.

The NFL has to do a better job of preventative house cleaning, such as
screening prospective players for character as well as
playing ability. The NBA, too.

What a bunch of hypocrits!
Excerpt from reporter Michael O'Donnel:

"What's wrong with what Michael Vick did? I have no inclination to do what he did with dogs, but I have no comprehension of what all the fuss is about. Most people who are upset about killing dogs or letting them attack each other have at some point in their lives caught a fish, which is as extreme a form of murderous torture of an animal as I can imagine. Not only have most of them caught a fish, they have actually eaten many more of them than they've caught. Which is weirder, killing an animal or eating its dead flesh? Most of us have never eaten dog meat, but in some countries it is a delicacy. Is there something evil going on in those countries? Are they violating the natural order of things? Should we invade them or get the UN to intervene? They are killing and eating dogs for god's sake!!!

What is the moral basis -- the natural law, if you will -- that accords special respect and protection to dogs in our written laws? And how does that same natural law allow for fish being clubbed to death on boat decks if they haven't died already from the hook-in-mouth trick we so enjoy pulling on them?"

Check out the rest to get some balanced perspective:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/lawrence-odonnell/whats-wrong-with-killing_b_61766.html

If MV has to spend time for killing an animal--which I do find disgusting, but not worthy of doing hard time--what should happen to Bush-Cheney for concocting and executing an immoral, bloody, trillion dollar+ war? Thousands of HUMAN BEINGS have lost their lives and limbs, and even more families have been devastated emotionally and financially over this heinous crime. Where is the collective outrage over this? But we're ready to tar and feather a dog-fighting promoter, whi hasn't hurt one human being. This is too twisted for words. And lordy be, he might have gambled on the outcome. We sanction more gambling--on just about anything--in America than anywhere on the planet.

I agree with the barbaric aspect; but where is the palpable outrage when these internet child molesters get caught by the dozens--daily! I don't see the vitriolic protestations or 24/7 coverage by the media. Is it because MV is a high-profile NFL QB? Because he makes more money than the average human he should be treated more harshly? Are dogs getting killed more disturbing than kids getting molested by pedophilis monsters? Get a grip people...

I wish EQUAL outrage, at the very least, had been shown for the US soldiers who raped and murdered that 14 year old Iraqi girl and her family.

There's plenty of palpable outrage about pedophelia, dummy. Maybe you should pull your head out of your colon and talk to people in the real world instead of the blogosphere!

And yes, this gets more press because Vick is a celebrity. I would thing you of all people would know all about focusing on celebrities.

And because other people commit equal or far greater crimes than his, we should turn a blind eye to Vick's? Where's the logic in that?

I'm not even going to comment on the idiotic qoute from O'Donnell equating catching fish to prodding dogs to maul each other for entertainment.

Try critical thinking sometime, Rus. Trust me, it won't hurt.

Where's the "plenty" palpable outrage mr. smuganonymous? Because you say so...Or because you call me "dummy". That really bolstered your position...And I read a plethora of newspapers, mags, books. Further, I take action; every weekend I walk with (10-15)like-minded protesters against the Iraq Invasion. What do you do besides calling people sandbox names?

You never answered what should happen to the thugs in the WH. There are cold-blood murderers such as Sammy the Bull, who admitted killing 19 other human beings who served less time than Lindsey Lohan (82 mins.) But MV should spend 5, or according to some posters, LIFE in jail. It's so twisted it doesn't even merit debating. There's so many BLATANT inconsistencies in this dog-fighting bruhaha, any balanced, semi-intelligent person could do a dissertation on the folly of it. You should take your own advice about critical thinking....

Johnny D,

"Nisleib, I agree with you. But also haven't you been one of those busting my tail over the fact I don't care if head-chopping terrorists get treated poorly?"

I hope it isn't completely lost on you that Michael Vick was provided the Constitutionally mandated access to the judicial system, something you consistently demand is not necessary for "head-chopping terrorists."

Therein lies the difference, friend.

If Vick or his family and friends wanted a fix for that entertainment nerve, Vick had the money to entertain them in other ways. This isn't Afghanistan and Vick doesn't live in houses with dirt floors with not much alse to do for entertainment. Here you have someone (Vick) playing rough and tough on the field (padded no less to prevent injury) and he needs more entertainment. Take it out to the field, and buy your family and friends tickets. Get yourself or them training sessions in martial arts, boxing, wrestling, or mixed martial arts if you need to get the bloodsport nerve fix, or get tickets to the sidelines. You need to fix that gambling nerve...the casions and/or the track is your best friend on the money you make.

PS. The horse or grey hound track has standards for reasonable treatment of animals to meet according to the animal in context unless your vegan and so much as fishing is elevated and described in terms of a V-day massacre for you. The horses and dogs aren't emaciated. I don't see dogs and horses with ears torn off and gaping holes on their hide. There are standards and punishment for cruelty once animal handling and treatment passes the set standards by majority consensus of what is reasonable treatment for each animal in context unlike dog or cocks in rings. Yes, the horses are used for meat and sold south of the border. Yes, they are uthanized at the end of their running carreer. The dogs and chickens bite and peck each other to death. No standards govern the threatment and handling of the animals pre sport during sport or after sport bc there would be no sport. There is really no purpose in the rings other than furthering criminal activity. It is a given that organizations and gangs fund themselves in the US and outside the US in these rings. It is not a black community or white community or hispanic community or muslim community thing bc it is traced throughout the world and through out the ages. You go to Afghanistan, to South Asia, to Germany, to Cuba and Columbia,.. any bloodring has no other purpose but gambling that results in high cash pay out to fund organizations or gangs and money laundering that furthers the drug (cocaine heroin-poppies anyone??) and illegal arms trade. Vick as a high paying celebrity chose to endorse such a bloodsport. He should pay.
