AMES, Iowa -- The potential candidate is not here, but that did not keep the FredHeads from showing up.
Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson is on the GOP straw poll ballot today and is expected to visit Iowa for the first time of his pseudo-candidacy late next week.
Four of his supporters, meanwhile, rented a $1,000 spot for a table to distribute bumper stickers and buttons for their guy outside Hilton Coliseum.
"People have been very positive," said Jeff Mitchell, a business systems analyst from Memphis. "We are going to have a respectable showing for someone who is not a candidate."
Mitchell was joined by three other Thompson fans from College Station, Texas.
As one of his supporters caught a quick nap, the three others answered questions about the potential candidate and showed a PowerPoint presentation and video about his background.
Mitchell said the money for the table was raised on the Internet. "If he is in the top five, I'll be happy," he said.
With 11 names on the ballot today, the results are expected at 7 p.m.

I'll bet the PowerPoint presentation had plenty of photos of his trophy wife, to distract Iowans from focusing on his professed fealty to Bush's disastrous policies.
More Iraq occupation for years to come, more dead Americans for years to come, etc.

I am going to vote for Fred and so will a lot of others who don't even watch that show.
People who want America to win the long war.

The Dems are trying so hard to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in Iraq simply to gain some political points... it must be kinda sad to be for a candidate who will lose support if we WIN in Iraq.
And the worst their supporters can say about FRed is he worked as a lobbyist, he's had a succesful career in acting and his wife is beautiful. Sounds like a win to me... FOR FRED!

A guy wearing a "FredHead" t-shirt in the foreground with a "We need Alan Keyes" banner in the background.
A dream ticket if I ever saw one. Guaranteed to cary Illinois.
