DES MOINES—Democratic Gov. Chet Culver said today that despite jockeying among the states over the presidential nominating calendar, Iowa will keep its first-in-the-nation caucus status and won't move its voting into December.
"I'm here to remind all Iowans that in this state, we're going to still have Christmas," Culver said. "We're very firm in the fact that we expect to have the caucuses in January."
Still Culver made it clear that the ultimate date for the Iowa caucuses, now scheduled for Jan. 14, is still up in the air and dependent upon the date that New Hampshire Secy. of State William Gardner sets for that state's first-in-the-nation primary.
South Carolina Republicans earlier this week decided to move their primary to Jan. 19 from Feb. 2, a move that bumped them ahead of New Hampshire's Jan. 22 primary date.
Because New Hampshire's Gardner has the right to set the date for the nation's first primary, the Granite State is expected to leapfrog ahead of South Carolina's GOP and fall before Iowa's currently scheduled date.
That, in turn, would trigger an Iowa law requiring that its caucuses be held eight days prior to New Hampshire.
"We will do everything it takes to keep Iowa first, to have the caucus in January and to keep our relationships intact with the party and our friends in New Hampshire," Culver said. "We will put all options on the table to protect our first in the nation status."
Culver said any changes in the Iowa date would comply with national party rules, but said "there's no common sense reason for us to move back the 2008 presidential selection process" into the final month of 2007.

WHO IS CIRCUMVENTING THE LAW AND WHY. WHO IS COMMITTING VOTER FRAUD AND CAGING THAT BLACK MANS VOTE. WHO IS CAGING MILITARY MEMBERS VOTE ABROAD IN IRAQ. WHO IS GOING TO STEAL YOUR VOTE AND WHEN.
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
KARL ROVE, MONICA GOODLING, SARA TAYLOR, ALBERTO GONZALES?
MOVING THE PRIMARIES UP GIVES THE PURGE OF THE PROSECURITY A CHANCE TO GET A SNAPSHOT OF WHAT THEY MISSED. KARL ROVE IS PUSHING THIS AGENDA TO SEE WHERE THE VOTES LIE. PUSHING THIS AGENDA TO THRWART THE ELECTORIAL COLLEGE IF A LOBBYIST HASN'T ALREADY PURCHASED THOSE VOTES.
THIS IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL AT BEST BUT, WE ARE JUST IN A DAZE WITH THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION AND WE JUST CAN'T WAIT.
IT TELLS THE PEOPLE YOUR VOTE DOESN'T COUNT. IT TELLS PEOPLE WE WANT TO SHORTEN THE FIELD OF TRUE CANDIDATES.
PEOPLE BETTER REGISTER TO VOTE AND MAKE SURE THEY DO.
ENGAGE AMERICA ENGAGE, AS THIS ADMINISTRATION IS PULLING OUT THE HOODINI MAGIC TO STEAL ANOTHER ONE.
JUST ANOTHER TRICK OUT OF THE DARKEN DOORS OF THE WHITE HOUSE.

This is only the second biggest fraud being committed in our democracy.
The first and most ominous one is happening in CA where the Republicans want to split the electoral college vote (in that state only, thank you very much). Knowing a lost in CA is imminent in 2008, they'd prefer to split the ec vote according to congressional districts won. And they want to change their law by referundum, in direct conflict with the Constitution of the United States of America. In a direct spit in the face of the Founding Fathers.
Conservatives, where have thy fathers gone?
