Sen. Dick Durbin has asked the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to explain how thoroughly it tests seafood from Asia, especially in light of the “import alert” the FDA has imposed on some seafood from China.
In a letter to FDA Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach, Durbin, a Democrat, cites a Sept. 16 Tribune story headlined, “As FDA gets tough on China seafood, it fails to hold others to same standard.” The story details how popular seafood from other Asian countries continues to be imported without the safety restrictions placed on China.
Yet many of those Asian countries, the story reports, use the same fish-farming techniques -- and experience the same contamination problems -- as Chinese fisheries.

How does the Bush Admin. FDA test food? If I had my guess, the FDA probably looks at the amount of business company X does with the US and if the price is right it waves the product thru with nary a thorough inspection. And the mere suggestion we inspect food more closely to protect consumers results in the Republic minions howling that "commerce would shut" down!", "let the market decide what is contaminated!", "blah, blah, blah!"

I am sure it tasted great with your Latte Venti, or Chai Tea...
Not me pal. Just give me a good old Republican double-cheeseburger, Super Fries with cheddar cheeze sauce, and a jumbo Mocha-flavored shake.
Mmmmmm...As American as that pack of unfiltered Luckies sitting on the dashboard of my F150 PU,
....all US Government Approved too!

The food is inspected about as much as the illegal aliens coming into this country. The very people Durbin is aiding & abetting!!!
