by Frank James
Departing Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is scheduled to speak tonight at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn. to the cadets, faculty and administrators.
According to a Justice Department press release:
The Attorney General will offer his unique perspective on the application of a law-of-war framework to the conflict with al Qaeda as well as subsequent legal actions taken by the executive branch, Congress and the courts since September 11th, 2001.
No doubt he has a "unique perspective," that's beyond dispute. As White House counsel, Gonzales approved of interrogation techniques for detainees suspected of terrorist connections that amounted to torture, according to experts and Bush Administration critics.
He also played a role in the administration's controversial use of warrantless surveillance of phone calls.
Waterboarding, anyone?

Comments
Oh come on now, this whole torture thing is much simpler than people make it out to be. Let me explain.
If the US does it to foreigners, especially foreigners with dark skin, it isn't torture.
If it is done to US citizens by foreign countries it IS torture.
I hope that clears it up.

It's Bush-hating Frank James venting again. Not to be taken seriously, according to experts and Swamp critics.

There he is RNC stooge Bruce the defender of unjust causes. You'll stick for anything a republican lackey does because...well because you are one. Bruce you a hack and a fool. No amount of money from the RNC is worth defending the defenceless. SLAVE!!!
Alberto Gonzales is a blight on the political landscape.

RNC Bruce,
It's Gonzo who's on his way out the door. His sycophant acquiesence to Dubya and Darth's subvervision of the Constitution has weakened our standing in the world.
You're ad naseaum attacks on Tribune reporters just make you look silly and irrevelant.
Get a grip, get a clue and/or post your RNC comments elsewhere.

As usual the driveby media exagerates the word torture. These Muslim radicals would cut your children heads off and Gitmo is too good for these terrorists. Give these jihadists American rights go ahead lefties they're mad at abortion, pornography, sodomy, immorality sounds like they'll come for liberals. Jerry White, Springfield, IL

Sorry, nislieb, it's apparently OK to do some of these things to US citizens if they blow the whistle on the massive amount of corruption in Iraq.
"For daring to report illegal arms sales, Navy veteran Donald Vance says he was imprisoned by the American military in a security compound outside Baghdad and subjected to harsh interrogation methods.
There were times, huddled on the floor in solitary confinement with that head-banging music blaring dawn to dusk and interrogators yelling the same questions over and over, that Vance began to wish he had just kept his mouth shut."
"For his trouble, he says, he got 97 days in Camp Cropper, an American military prison outside Baghdad that once held Saddam Hussein, and he was classified a security detainee.
Also held was colleague Nathan Ertel, who helped Vance gather evidence documenting the sales, according to a federal lawsuit both have filed in Chicago, alleging they were illegally imprisoned and subjected to physical and mental interrogation tactics "reserved for terrorists and so-called enemy combatants."

But I'm sure RNCBruce approves heartily of the way these people have been treated in any event.

Hey Jerry White- I'm waiting for you to tell us all what is the 'driveby media'. Did you here that on the Rush Limp-baugh show. Or, is that term unique to Springfield, Illinois.
RNC dog Brucie- Are you aware that the Tribune endorsed you superhero twice?? I have to laugh when I read your idiotic postings.
Alberto Gonzales- He Gone.

Gonzales was in no position to approve any methods. He defined them only. He isn't and wasn't part of the chain of command.

Jerry White,
I hear you're from Springfield - is this true?
Your yes or no answer will be the most intellectual comment you have ever made.

Jerry,
You just compared yourself and the rest of the extreme right ilk as jihadists by your own words. Now that you mention it, the similarities are scary.
