CORNING, Iowa — Democratic Sen. Joseph Biden criticized his White House rivals today, contending they are telling voters what they want to hear instead of delivering the truth.
Speaking to more than two dozen people in the Corning library, Biden said the refusal of Democratic Sens. Hillary Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois to support a supplemental spending bill for the U.S. military in Iraq in May ran counter to their later comments on how they would bring troops home.
Biden, a Delware Democrat, said he voted for the measure, in part, because it contained additional funding to shield military vehicles from attacks.
"We are sliding into telling you what you want to hear," Biden said of the rhetoric from the Democratic contenders.
"Every smart adviser, including mine, knew that when we voted on the supplemental as they call it, the money to fund the troops in Iraq, that the smartest political thing was tell you all I'm voting against it to end war today," Biden said.
Instead, Biden noted that during a recent debate, Clinton and Obama both said they could not commit to bringing all U.S. military out of Iraq before the end of their first term.
"How in God's name can you keep troops in Iraq…and not fund them?" Biden asked. "Square that circle for me. Do you think the American public is stupid?"

The only Democrat worth listening to running for the presidency: Joe Biden. I could at least stomach his presidency. Too bad he has no chance.

John D, don't sweat it. After your morons take they're beat down like good little pandering hypocrites, you can crawl back under your rock!!!
Joe Biden is a great American and he definitely has a point on this and many other subjects. I think he's trying to remind the democratic contenders to stick to they're principals and not to fall into the trap that all the republican frontrunners fell into.
A%s-kissing!!!

There is a GREAT picture of Barack "Hussein" Obama on Newsbusters.org that shows him, [not] with his hand over his heart while The National Anthem is being played, but Hillary and Bill Richardson,of course have their hand in the proper place.
Oh...maybe they didn't teach that to Obama at the madrassa he attended as a youth.
No wonder the lefties love this this nobody!

Why is Biden seemingly acting naive. Of course politicians tell people what the people want to hear. When did they not do that? No, Joe the American people are not stupid, only quietly waiting to revolt, march into Washington DC, empty out both houses of Congress and chase all the androids, riff raff, and useless politicians across the Potomac. So, Joe you should be directing your criticism at your colleagues in both parties and not just the Dem candidates.

John D, just stop drinking the Kool-Aid and get on the side of good. Quit the GOP torture team. I mean, it has gotta suck mindlessly defending a corrupt pack of miscreants.
I will say this much you are making slow progress. Your gracing Joe Biden with your praise shows that there is a small glimmer of hope for you. Very small.
I'm pulling for ya John.

Playing to audience's wishes....wouldn't that be called representing the people?
"Do you think the American public is stupid?"
Obviously you do, Senator.

Doesn't Biden realize that in the Democratic Party, the inmates have taken over the asylum?
He might as well try and tell the faithful that there is no Loch Ness Monster, or that the Earth is round.

Good thing the world doesn't revolve around what you can stomach. I'll tell you this much I can barely stomach your daily insane machinations.

Political wisdom and prognosticating from the Dubya worshipping dead-enders on this thread is a hoot!
Go back and read your own predictions before/about the '06 election and you'll see how right you'll be in '08.
Get used to it - the American public has seen your phony, hypocritic, more-patritic-than-thou, vitriolic, hyperbole for what it is.

Bruce the earth is round. Evolution is real and you are a propaganda tool!

Paulo...this has been disproved over and over...get over it!
And Bruce...I do exist!

And...I wonder what "they" will say about Biden wearing a ribbon pin on his lapel instead of a flag...well republicans...let the slamming begin!

Right on, Joe. It's called "pandering," and
the Democrats are experts at it. It's simply using taxpayer money to achieve one's own personal desires. Every time Hillary opens her mouth, she's giving away money to some other special interest group. How about giving something to us taxpayers for once?

This is typical Joe Biden - tell it how it is and not just what people want to hear.
This confidence comes from being the most experienced candidate of either party in this election.
The time is now for a Foreign Relations expert, a defender of middle class and working Americans.
Iowa nows it already, soon the rest of the country will too.
Go Joe!

Illogic Man, don't mistake my praise of Biden because he at least has a clue that I am slowly "evolving" to the Dark Side, which is Democratic and liberal politics.
I have been conservative in thought from childhood and proud of it. And before anyone thinks of Republicans as corrupt, let me introduce you folks to the Clintoons, the Daleys, the Bloggos, the Strogers, the Durbins, the Kennedys, the Schumers, and on and on and on.
