In politics, when you wield the power you get the money. So it’s no surprise Democrats have out-raised Republicans in the current campaign cycle. Still, it's interesting to see the numbers.

As reported on OpenSecrets.org, the website of the Center for Responsive Politics:

BIGGEST '08 DONORS NOW LEANING TO THE LEFT

Democrats are clearly enjoying the benefits of being in the majority, as several measures in OpenSecrets.org's new 2008 Election Overview attest. Nine out of 10 of the top overall donors have given more than half of their money in 2007 to Democrats, and the party has an edge with all 10 of the top-giving industries. That's quite a change from 2006, when the GOP had the edge with six of the top 10, even after losing control of Congress. Through June, Democratic members of Congress running for re-election had raised an average of $2.4 million in the Senate and $355,000 in the House, besting Republican incumbents by more than 20 percent. Incumbents of both parties, as always, enjoy a huge edge over their challengers; they've out-raised them 3 to 1. OpenSecrets.org now includes an extensive overview of fundraising in the '08 election cycle, and we have updated the historical data in our Big Picture section to include an overview of the 2006 election.

Frank they are raising money in the primary season the GOP will do better before the general. Also, Hillary has Media Matters and Move ON.org ginning up her base of wackos. Jerry White, SDpringfield, IL

From the NY Times:

"Dems More Excited About 08 Chances Than Repubs"

The Democratic presidential candidates continued to raise significantly more money during the last three months than their Republican counterparts, according to official and unofficial third-quarter fund-raising tallies that were released yesterday.

Senator Barack Obama, the Illinois Democrat, raised at least $20 million over the summer, more than $19 million of which could be spent on the primary — showing that he continued to be a formidable fund-raiser. It was unclear whether he still led in fund-raising, as he did this spring, because Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton did not release her tally. (Her aides had said that they expected to raise a similar amount.) John Edwards raised $7 million, and Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico raised $5.2 million.

By comparison, Mitt Romney, who has been one of the strongest Republican fund-raisers this election, raised only about half of what Mr. Obama raised this summer, according to a senior adviser who was granted anonymity to discuss the campaign’s finances. The adviser said that Mr. Romney brought in about $10 million from donors, and that he used more than $6 million of his own money for his campaign.

Rudolph W. Giuliani, who replaced his chief fund-raiser at the end of the quarter, did not release a tally, but said over the weekend that he thought he would “do as well as the other Republicans — maybe we will do better than some.” Fred D. Thompson raised at least $8 million in his first quarter as a candidate, according to people involved with the campaign — less than the other leading candidates raised early in their campaigns.

Mr. White, who's more "wacko", MoveOn and Media Matters or the people that STILL support the Bush administration?

I'd rather have MoveOn and Media Matters as a base than the NRA and tabacco industry.

Because they know what a bunch of lying scumbags the republicans are.

Forget hillary, we need Gore! Hillary smells like dead fish. Besides, she's ugly! AL GORE'08!

I LIKE IT! bRuciee and his ilk always like to post contributions data saying you can't trust someone because they contribute to the loons. Not more Americans are doing the same. Tell me wingers, is it politics, or is America moving left?
