by Frank James
When I first saw this CNN footage of Vice President Cheney nodding off during yesterday's White House Cabinet meeting where the California wildfires were Topic A, I thought it was a bit of a cheap shot.
I mean, who hasn't dozed off when the leader of the free world was talking about a massive conflagration that had sent more than half a million people in the nation's most populous state running for their lives?
And he probably wasn't the only one in the room who felt that way.
It wasn't like Cheney was snoring or did some serious head snapping as he tried to push himself back into wakefulness. He was very smooth, very quiet about it. In short, he was very Cheney.
The vice president is a heart patient and, if he's on medication, that could be what made him drowsy. But it wouldn't take that. White House days start notoriously early and take their toll even on relatively young staffers.
So it really isn't much of a story that he took a little snooze. Still, it's not everyday that you see the vice president nod off during a discussion of a huge calamity. That makes it worth noting.

And I thought Dick was a corporate animal.
Even I learned to sleep with my eyes open in a meeting.

Not much of a story...kinda like the flag pin piece. Oh....that's right, the right wanted to make a big deal about that. New caption:
SNOOZE YA LOSE!!!

Just when I think Frank James can't get any cheaper with his cheap shots at Republicans, along comes a rancid article like this.

At least we now know he isn't a robot and he does in fact sleep.
Posted by: steve | October 25, 2007 10:23 AM
Bill R's right; no big deal. Although I'm expecting someone from the right to complain that "liberals" are making a huge deal about this...

Brucie:
It's obvious that you did not ready Frank's hit piece against the Democrats in Congress yesterday.

What Frank James and the mainstream, liberal, driveby media fail to mention, is that the vice president was very tired.

Dreaming of nuclear War.

Just be glad he was sleeping. If he had put his two cents in we probably would have started bombing California by now.
Don't worry, the invasion of California will pay for itself. Californians will throw flowers at our military, or, this being California, they will thow sushi.

Another hit piece from the leftwing drive-by media.

Hey cut him a little slack. Sleep is a great escape mechanisim and he has a lot on his conscience.

Good for Cheney. Like Patton said in the movie, he was the only guy in the room who knew what he was doing.

I'm surprised he wasn't playing a fiddle!!!
Bruce = crybaby.
Posted by: Logic Prisoner | October 25, 2007 12:20 PM
I guess Bruce worked his way up to the American dream with no help from anyone by...falling asleep in meetings?? Who knew?!!

At least we know which one of the dwarfs he is. Hay ! how did Dopey become president ?

Really? Just like you and the rest of the Republic Party hacks whining about Barack Obama not wearing an American flag pin on his suits?
Grow up already.

Thinking about Halliburton's third quarter earnings increase of 19%.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for the Cheney household.

Where's the video of both of the Clinton's snoring through a funeral. This is Jr High Stuff and if it's all the stink you can stir up then phooey on you.
Posted by: kalamere | October 25, 2007 3:24 PM
Of course, he fell asleep. He is not well - he's on meds - he has heart problems, head problems, President problems, Condi problems, etc. etc.
I want to keep him in that state forever because he can do no harm while "out" of the picture.

Well we could go back to the fact that he started an ilegal war based on lies that has cause the wrongful deaths of thousands of Amreican and about a million innocent Iraqi's but that would be TOO grown up for you right?

If it isn't a big deal, why is your freakin' headline "Cheney catches zzz while California burns". You make him sound like Nero fiddling while Rome burned. Leave it to the media to make a nasty headline, then try and dismiss it in the story after the impression is planted. Disingenuous at best.

Sleeping on the job? In my previous company, they consider that stealing. You are stealing time from the employer. In this case, Cheney is stealing time from the taxpayers again.
Posted by: Lou | October 25, 2007 4:47 PM
You’re right, no big deal. Of course, if it were a liberal /Democrat nodding off, the spin would be “an unforgivable disregard for the plight of the victims” and would become story one on Fox Noise for the next two or three weeks.

"Cheney is stealing time from the taxpayers again."
If only that were all that he and this corrupt administration has taken from us.
Posted by: Gary | October 25, 2007 5:40 PM
If it's not a discussion about how to kill more iraqis or how to spend more on helliburton, the president just isn't interested.
Posted by: RNCBS | October 25, 2007 5:47 PM
Driveby? Hit-piece?? He's the Vice President of the United States and he is SLEEPING through a meeting about a national disaster. You can't make that sound worse than it is - it is disgraceful.
If his health is so bad that he needs to sleep through a crisis, then he should resign.

(Inside Cheney's dreams......)
And so the man, that looked like Humpty Dumpty, was chained to jagged reef and beheld a tsunami of titanic proportions approaching in slow motion from the sea while giant thundering footsteps where heard approaching from the opposite direction. Humpty prayed for deliverance as Ned Beatty commanded him to squeal.
Just then......
'wha ? wha? A fire? Where? When's lunch?'

I doubt that it is because he is losing any sleep over the loss of life resulting from his lies. More like he has been staying up at night cooking up more lies.

Poor lad. The loot is largely over. The condo in Bahrain is fully guilded. Life is dull now that Pelosi is totally at heel. What is there left to live for?
