The Swamp

by Frank James

Who said our counterterrorism officials at the Central Intelligence Agency don't have a sense of humor?

busterspin_preview.jpg

As others have reported, the CIA has a terrorist-busters logo inspired by the Ghostbusters logo from the 1980s movie. The main differences? The malefactor in the CIA's logo is carrying an automatic weapon and has a vague jack-o-lantern face. The ghost in the Ghostbusters logo looked more benign.

Look upon this, Osama bin Laden, and be afraid. Be very afraid.

I can't imagine the amount of tax dollars wasted on a logo my six year old niece could have come up with.

What were they thinking?! That looks ridiculous! Am I supposed to laugh or cry...

RomanB,
Really? And if she can, maybe you can tell her to do something better. Let's bring all the 6 year olds into the fold. Describe to them the evils of ISLAMO-FACISIM and have them make drawings or paint pictures, or better yet do it on their little computers.
Where would our tax dollars be going then? Fighting the war on Terror!

If a cute little logo rallies people to root out terror and be vigilant, that's great. But it seems a little juvenile to me.

Smiley must be crying somewhere.

A pretty lame article even by Swamp standards.

And not even an original lame article. A far left-wing blogsite did this comparison on Oct. 22nd. See http://thinkprogress.org/2007/10/22/terrorist-busters/

We all know that Frank James is a mere conduit of hit pieces, even silly hit pieces, by the kooky left.

Yeah, but, "WHO YA GONNA CALL?"

Not GW if you really want it done effectively, and not just create more terrorists where there weren't before.

And who would be the "Key Master" and "Gate Keeper"?

I wonder who will be in terrorist-busters 2?

It's disturbing that the CIA chose to show the terrorist representation coming through the bar. One would hope that the symbol would show an aspiration to stop terrorists, not just slow them down.

Thank G-d our best and brightest minds have finally figured out how to win the War on Terror!

Anti-terrorism needs a logo? Just proves to me that war and anti-terrorism is all about business and money, not about people and safety.

At least the CIA has finally caught up the rest of us. I like it!!

Reminds me of that good old gate-keeper....Gozer!

Get over yourselves. The logo is awesome. It's simple, appropriate, and gets the point across. I haven't heard any ideas for a logo that would be any better than that.

JeffD,
If we are going to bring 6 year olds into the fold, I'd rather tell 6 year olds that according to John D and others it doesn't damage America's moral standing or create more terrorists when we shove broomsticks and other objects forcefully into the anuses of detainees.

It's a cute curved non-threatening cartoon of an automatic weapon with a smiling jack-o-lantern of a terrorist face, which ingenuously furthers the fantasy. But covers up the reality. A great logo, though, for Chicago's future JROTC/CIA elementary school--to round out this city's other JROTC dedicated schools for kids as young as 13. I know the strategy: If other countries have child soldiers, so must we. But if this logo is for adults, it just goes to prove that the CIA has a shortage of intelligence in more ways than one.

Are they selling this on a t-shirt? I would buy one, and proceeds could go towards charity.

If there was a CIA Terrorist Buster Logo T-shirt, would people be stopped at an airport screening for wearing it? That would be funny.

Is this real? Seriously, its something I would expect to see in The Onion...

I'm sorry, Gumby just doesn't strike fear.

Just in time for Halloween!

I'm glad to see our nation's top intelligence agency is tackling this threat to all of us in a mature and serious manner.

Does it say, "Made in China" on the back?

Good one john, you keep feeding the Islamo-facist terror propaganda machine. Start by telling all kids that it is all our fault that terrorists want all of us dead won't you? Nevermind the fact that they'd love to make the entire world an Extremist-Islam state. Also, I'll leave it to you to explain to the six year olds about the acts of clitoral castration while you're at it.

Well, the Mr. Yuk logo is copyrighted so they couldn't go there...

Who said this is just about Islamo-fascists anyway? Think global. Tomorrow it may be ex-KGB working for the Russian mafia, or the Chinese lead brigade.

Critics don't understand doodly about security posters. I do. I used them for more than 20 years. The goal is to catch the eye quickly, make a point, send a message, and move on. This fits that bill.

Perhaps they could trick out a hearse to drive around. Win them with humor, c'mon terroists we have funny movies.

JeffD,
If you don't understand that there is blowback from our foreign policies then you need help. It's not blaming America. It's understanding why Muslims do not not trust America and root for groups that are perceived to stand up to American power despite the fact that they don't agree with Al-Qaeda type groups radical goals.

PS Did you start calling it Islamo-fascism before or after you were calling them evildoers. You're a very good and obedient parrot.

"Islamo-facist terror propaganda machine"? Huh? That name sounds a little grandiose for a bunch of religious-fanatic-whackos releasing video clips on the internet. Pretty funny comment about the posts here providing them fodder though...as if they haven't gotten all the fodder they need from the "enhanced interrogation techniques" used at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo or the CIA rendition flights.

You have got to be kidding.
The terrorists shouldn't even know the name or be sure of the existence of this operational group.

We need a logo to fight terror?

Where are they going to put the logo? ON the graves of the terrorists?

Paul M and John, you have to be kidding. If you think we create the terrorists, you should take some history and poli-sci courses. Or you can sit home with your far left crying towels.

It does not look professional or serious.

We all know Bruce does nothing but cry about Frank James and spread ridiculous propaganda!!!

Now that I've got that out of the way, that terrorist logo is STUPID!!!

Is that a sickle or a scimitar on the end of the rifle? You'd wonder if it's a dual purpose communist and islamist logo :-)

We've used another logo too. It's the crosshairs/reticle of a sniper scope super-imposed over a terrorists head w/ the words, "Reach out & touch someone." "Spec. Ops. Group #XXX" around the outside of the logo. There are some others also that people have developed during their breaks or off-duty time. Another one is "See ya!" w/ an another illustration. Be safe.

Your right Irwin we don't creat terrorists, but we exasperate a bunch of really pissed off people who later become terrorists. You can sit home with your far right Kool-Aid guzzling sheeple!

It is a fitting logo for anti-terrorism because the Bush administration is clearly fighting a phantom enemy. Al Qaeda doesn't exist. Criminals exists. Hijackers exists. Corruption in the White House exists. Traitors exists. War criminals exists. They (the real terrorists - the Bush administration) choose terrorism because it is a war against the make believe. It is their answer to a perpetual war. Today everyone who opposes the Bush administration are now declared Al Qaeda or terrorists - even decorated members of Congress.

A dumb terror logo. Your tax dollars at work!

The only conclusion to logically arrive at is that it must be deliberately of such egregious quality and concept that suicide bombers would see it and preemptively laugh themselves to death.
From blog post at link.

Well, it certainly does what Mr Archibald wants:

it cathces the eye - 'look, someone been fooling around with the ghostbuster logo'

it makes a point - 'the CIA is stuck in the 1980s'

it sends a message - 'the CIA is a joke'.

Now let's move on.
