Newt Gingrich, introduced as a “drum major’’ of the conservative movement, suggested today that the religious right has been mislabeled – largely by a liberal media which may pack up and move to New Zealand if they look at what he has seen.

Citing a variety of national polls that he has examined, Gingrich, the former Republican speaker of the House from Georgia who entertained a campaign for president, pointed to findings such as this: 89 percent of those surveyed believe religion and morality are important to them and their family.

“The next time you are referred to as the religious right, say, ‘No, I belong to religious America – what percent do you belong to?’’’ Gingrich said to cheers in a Washington ballroom where 2,000 people have assembled to weigh the Republican field of candidates and cast their votes in a straw-poll Saturday.

“I want all the elite media to understand… I am not making a theological argument,’’ Gingrich said. “I am making a historical argument about the nature of the United States. The people who created the United States of America believed that you and I are sovereign and we are the power and we have every right to fire those who are wrong – and that includes judges who are wrong.’’

“What our secular friends don’t understand… the America that gave us freedom… was an America based on the rights given to us by our creator,’’ Gingrich said. “I’ve shared this with you because I believe we are at one of the great turning points in American history… I believe that in the next few years, Americans are going to come together… and they are going to say, you know, the path we’ve been on recently, the path the liberal media had us on, the path that judges had us on…. That is a path to end America as it has been.’’ There will be “a fundamental sea change.’’

“There are many people of great power, in the news media, of the academic world, in government, in judgeships, who are deeply opposed to everything you believe in,’’ said Gingrich, offering a simple solution: “We go to the polls, we mobilize all of our friends, we defeat them, they get to go home and write memoirs, and we make sure America moves in the right direction.’’

Gingrich talking about morals is like Bill CLinton talking about morals.

YAAAWWWWWN...

Get real, Lessor Salamander;

The 'religious right', the 'conservative Christians', 'Movement Christians', made up these names themselves years ago when it was to their advantage to be known as such.

These names are now falling into disrepute due their own misuse of power, so now Newt (The Hoot) wants to blame the liberal media.

'Intellectually Bankrupt Christian Movement Demagog' is the newest name that comes to me in regard to Gingrich and his torch carrying, pitchfork waving mob of clerical-fascists.

Remember;
'When they say it's not a theological argument, it's a theological argument.'

AMEN!!! Newt in "08..........

Newt for President...Take our nation back and take us to a future we can count on!!

Aren't we already on the Right? We need to move back to the Center. . .

Move any further to the Right, and we will fall off the clift.

"Gingrich: Moving America 'In The Right Direction'"

Good god, will this lying hypocrite ever go away?

All of this still points to the way of thinking of the KKK. Their religious banter, liberal media comments, the rise of America that is based on God?? These types of people need to be removed from television.

Let's see;

Newt the Hoot and Sanitarium, on the same day, issue a 'fatwa' against judges, liberals, and the 'liberal' press??

Looks like someone has their marching orders, Lucy!!

'Who would have expected; An American Inquisition?'

Newt's engaging in his typical "blame the media" diatribe when he says that they put "religious right" out there. Funny when the religious right were calling all the shots via DeLay, Ralph Reed, Gary Bauer, Ted Haggard, Mark Foley, et al, there was no objection to the term. They (the religious right) would have us all believe that we should be seminarians in order to be good Americans. Not as a theologian, but as a historian, Newt says we should fire judges we don't agree with. Oh goody, goody now we can fire the justices who appointed Bush president. The path we have been on is not one the liberal media has us on, but the one the righteous right and their righteous President Bush has put us on. Newt is engaging in text book demagogic hyperbole as usual. He is bound to find many people in the audience who are gullible enough to be influenced.

“What our secular friends don’t understand… the America that gave us freedom… was an America based on the rights given to us by our creator,’’ Gingrich said.

"Secular friends"? "Religious America"? The "creator" gives you "rights"? How Talibanesque is this? I don't think Christ taught this 'otherness'. Didn't he say love your neighbor as you love me?

Yes, they represent a "religious" America, but definitely NOT a spiritual America.

I don't know about anyone else, but based on all these stories coming from it, I'd have to say that the Washington Hilton is probably the creepiest place in the universe right about now. I get the shivvers just thinking about that crowd of zombied haters.

Great stat, Newt:
"89 percent of those surveyed believe religion and morality are important to them and their family."

Wow! Another poll said 99% of people like their mommies and 94% said good was to be preferred over bad. You've really got your pulse on the country there, Mr. Divorce Papers.

"Religious America"?

America is to defend the right of Americans to worship any religion they so choose, not to have Christianity promoted by the US government.

Even 89% of Americans understand that.

"Newt Gingrich, introduced as a “drum major’’

Another cheerleader; Hey Newt! Nice dress! You look great in that cheerleader outfit.

Wouldn't you love to see DI Hartman, (Or Sgt. Grant for that matter) whip this half stepping RAMF into shape? (BTW, I was a RAMF on steroids, but I was whipped into shape.)

Assignment; figger it all out.

Newt's right, obviously. When was the last time you saw in the media a reference to the "atheist left?" Or the "religious left," for that matter. Yet, it's common place for Democrats to campaign in black churches without any indication by the media that somehow this is a breach of the "separation of church and state." Of course, the Constitution never frames the question in that manner, anyway. It's only brought up on the conservative side of the ledger.

This is a Fox News REALLY LOUD UPDATE! I'm Brit Hume.

President Bush has announced that, if Iran says one more word---just one---about anything, including nuclear power, the Red Sox-Indians matchup or pork belly futures, he'll push the big red button in his Knight Rider lunchbox marked WORLD WAR III.

Fox News will bring you masturbatory coverage of this glorious development as it unfolds, sponsored by Kleenex™. Our next REALLY LOUD UPDATE in 30 minutes or when Bill Kristol regains consciousness after swooning, whichever comes first.

....John D, you may now return to your regular scheduled "Newt Declaration", thankyou for watching Fixed News.

In the 90's every time he opened his pie hole the Clinton's got even more popular.
I hope he does run. It will help strengthen the Dems.

From the September 1, 2006 edition of Fox News' Hannity & Colmes:

COLMES: You're calling appeasers people who disagree with the Bush policy administration --

GINGRICH: Look --

COLMES: -- comparing them to those who enabled Hitler?

GINGRICH: Yes.

Gingrich Forecasts GOP Losses in 2008
BEN EVANS | June 8, 2007

WASHINGTON — Republican Newt Gingrich, in a jab at President Bush, warned on Friday that the GOP will lose the White House and Congress in 2008 if the nominee is perceived as a continuation of the Bush presidency.

Addressing a conservative organization, the former House Speaker never mentioned the president by name, but his political point was clear.

"If the Republicans run a stand-pat presidential candidate who ends up being on defense for all of September and October and who is seen by the country as representing four more years, the fact is that Republicans are not going to" win, Gingrich told the American Enterprise Institute.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes, Mr. Gingrich, America IS moving in the right direction.
May God Bless America.
""89 percent of those surveyed believe religion and morality are important to them and their family."
Yeah, and a recent poll showed that congress had 11% approval but that individual Americans supported their congressman by 51%.
"Funny when the religious right were calling all the shots via DeLay, Ralph Reed, Gary Bauer, Ted Haggard, Mark Foley, et al, there was no objection to the term. "
You got it GW.
Now it's lost it's cache'.
'Smells like clerical fascism'.
Easy guys and gals ...
That Newt has an audience to speak of these historically based topics shows that many, if not most Americans are quite uncomfortable with San Francisco style "values", the mass media wacky left slant, and just the overall attempt to make the US into just another 2nd world European country with its support of ignoring the illegal alien problem we face. By pretending that these problems do not exist will not make them go away. And the negative outcome of these things affect all of us, no matter our core values.
Newt did a good job. As a Christian, I respect his history lessons regarding the founders and their respect for traditional Judeo-Christian morality. It is being usurped by pop-culture and secular humanists and the ACLU stealing Christmas and Easter from our families.
Clinton's bizarre sexual peccadillos led us further left with Monica and all the others Juanita Broderick, Kathleen Willey, Paula Jones, Jennifer Flowers. This had an effect on our children and the anything goes mentality don't judge anyone and everyone is the same rather gay or straight, abortion on demand makeup the liberal Democrat line. Never mind is it a sin question. Jerry White, Springfield, IL
I really wish I could mimic your "style," Jerry. There is no one I know who can turn a paragraph into the obvious rantings of an over-the-hill coot than you can. Its actually rather entertaining.
Do you think creating a culture of permanent fear and war a la Bush & Co. might also produce a negative effect for our children?
BC,
Without a doubt, Lesser Salamander is a true libertine. I guess that's what intrigues the repressed conservative posters here so much. They are closet humans that want to express themselves,,,,basely.
Note to values 'movement' Christians/Cons;
The Id defeats the ego every time. Catch up on your Freud.
"Secular friends"? "Religious America"? The "creator" gives you "rights"? How Talibanesque is this?
Posted by: DD | October 19, 2007 6:13 PM
There you have it. The Left considers quoting our Declaration of Independence as being Talibanesque.
Orchestrated opposition!
Look at the orchestrated oppostiion to his speech.
This is not random comments from readers, this is "assigned for your day" to monitor and comment against Newt and the people that like him.
The very liberal Gay Rights movements and the far left Liberals are coordinating these types of efforts across the country: Talk Radio, call in TV Shows, Newspapers, Web sites such as Newt's here, and all other media is being monitored with daily assignments to post those "orchestrated -coordinated" comments.
Don't be fooled folks.
They "bastard" the open forums for everyone. Talk about "protecting rights"...ha ha...them stand up for "rights"...those folks that take yours away in a moment! Hypocrites - all of 'em.
Dear Mister Speaker,
One must only read some of the posted comments to see the hate, stupidy, and absence of civility that abounds in our nation today. We once thought of the "great depression" as the "dark days" but if the current tends in our nation continue our future is one large "dark hole". Please continue your efforts to convince our people to look inward with even a modicum of truth. We most certainly are headed for many, many dark days ahead unless our attitudes and understanding of the truth inprove drastically.
Newt,
I think your right! This Nation was founded as a Christian Nation. What most fail to realize is that the freedoms taken away from the Christians today, will soon be taken away from them as well!
Were not trying to shove Christianity down their throats, their trying to shove their secular beliefs down ours!
People have come into this Country and have been offended by our beliefs. So, now the traditions and laws of our Country have to be changed in order to accommmodate them.Has anyone paid attention to what has happened to our Country since we have thrown God out of our schools? By changing our traditions and laws we are effectively destroying what our Nation stands for. It's like sitting on a limb and cutting it off! Let's go back to those days of yesteryear and restore our Nation to what once made us great!
Newt Gingrich is way too cynical to believe the crap he's talking about. He's just trying to reel in some of the people who are RUNNING away from the BushCo brand of pseudo-conservatism.
And Gingrich is so comfortable with his own hypocrisy, he just doesn't get how he appears to those he preaches to. I heard his new plan is the "Contract with Religious America".
Those who post here that disagree with Newt's message have nothing constructive to add nor do they really have any ideas to discuss. The message is simply that of hate and attack the messenger. That dosen't help to change my mind from the message that Newt is spreading. Let me here ideas not attacks. Do you even have any that are compleltely truthful.
Those who post here that disagree with Newt's message have nothing constructive to add nor do they really have any ideas to discuss.
I voted for Newt in 78 when I lived in his district. Newt has had a great message for some time but my bone with him is this. Instead of tiptoeing around the edges and telling us if it looks like there is no real candidate in the race or come up with 30 million big ones by Oct 20 and I might consider it. Baloney, if Newt has some ideas then git in the ring and duke it out with the real contenders. Carl I hate to tell you this and you probably won't agree but Newt just doesn't have the guts. I've posted before that Teddy Roosevelt had a good saying about a critic like Newt. As the race moves on Newt will faid in the distance. Hate to see it because Newt had some great ideas.
Newt Gingrich is the brightest politician in America today. He is the person who should have unified the conservative movement. He should have run for President to expose Hillary as the left-wing socialist that she is. Newt for President!
I only wish Newt in his followup writing would have announced the results of the Value Voters Straw Poll. Did you see it?
Of those present, Mike Huckabee received more votes than all the other 8 candidates combined,51+ %
and was second to Romney by only 30 votes aout of over 3000 on line voters.
It amazes me that some of the posters comment on how right wing we are in America today. I remember the 1950s very well. Women in the house, blacks in "their" part of town (they weren't called blacks either), Jews were a whole different thing and gays feared for their lives. Maybe some of these obviously young, history challenged posters don't get it... or maybe they simply have an agenda. That attitude surely gets in the way of productive dialogue.
Just because the radicals that have left comments here don't agree with Mr. Gingrich doesn't mean he isn't on the right track. It just means they don't have an understanding of our history and the basis for our Constitution and want to stir folks up against a movement toward a better America. Also, you don't have to be old to appreciate the values that have been lost over the last many decades or to see how government has grown out of control and is no longer ...for the people...
etc. but for the politicians. I say, run for President Newt, put your money where your mouth is and hopefully put yourself in a position to do some good where it counts.
