Sen. Barack Obama addresses the endorsement that Rep. John Lewis of Georgia, a giant of the civil rights movement, has given to the Democratic Party's frontrunner in the campaign for president, Sen. Hillary Clinton, in an interview airing on National Public Radio tomorrrow.

“Well, we have probably the majority of Georgia elected officials including two congressmen who have endorsed us,'' Obama says in an interview with Andrea Seabrook to air on NPR's All Things Considered on Saturday.

"I can’t expect to be getting every single endorsement, given the eight years of a Clinton presidency and the long-time relationships that he has established with leaders all across the country and the favors that he’s done for political players all across the country,'' Obama says.

"I promise you this: that as much respect as I have for John Lewis, it’s not going to have much of an impact on the Iowa caucuses, or the New Hampshire primary,'' the senator from Illinois adds. "And ultimately, that is what is going to determine who the next nominee is.”

I am already sick of the '08 Iowa Cockup-esess.

Can't we get going on the '12 Iowa race?

I notice he conveniently failed to mention...South Carolina?

“Well, we have probably the majority of Georgia elected officials including two congressmen who have endorsed us."

A very telling observation by Mr Fluff for two reasons;

1) He'e telling us that political hacks have endorsed a political hack.

2) Notice the use of the royal "we" and "us" instead of "I" and "me". It's very Nixonian.

He didn't mention SC for two reasons:
1. When he wins Iowa and NH, all the other States will be in his pocket.
2. He was going to win SC, with or without Lewis endorsement.

If you think most blacks are going to vote for Hillary over Obama, you have another think coming. Lewis will endorse Hillary and vote for Obama when he's alone in the booth. The Clintons have played African-Americans for too long. It's time for African-Americans to play the Clintons.

I haven't decided yet. I'm from SC and I know the story on the ground. There's a lot. I'm not allowed to say more than that.

Obambi may have underestimated Bill. He is a rookie, after all. But did Axelrod underestimate Bill? That's less understandable. After all, he used to work for Bill/Hill, right.

It's insulting to members of all ethnic groups for Obama to somehow convey that African Americans should all vote for him because he is black. Are we about to turn into a sectarian nation here. Like...Iraq? Everybody sticks with their racial group come what may.

If a sectarian US is in oure future, however, however, better go with Bill Richardson. Hispanics are the power voting bloc of the future. The not so distant future, given immigration trends, legal and illegal.

"If you think most blacks are going to vote for Hillary over Obama, you have another think coming."

I live in Chicago, where we blacks know him quite well. The black folks in my circles (affluent, educated, working class or otherwise) aren't that impressed. Hell, when recently asked, the only reason Jesse himself could muster up for his support of the guy is he's his neighbor. Lackluster at best.

So what's that I see? Oh, oh, I see. It's just that other "think" coming...

Democrats, please nominate Hillary.
She's just unbeatable. (Hyuk, hyuk, hyuk!)

There's no news like old news and John Lewis, Walter Mondale, and the other old timers who have gone to Hillary/Bill are old news. The good news is that a whole bunch of folks want new news and are looking to Obama. The establishment old timers are loyal to Hillary/Bill because of the strange notion that going backward is a good thing to do. The smart money is on the younger voters who are not racially handicapped in their thinking, and truly progressive and liberal minded people who relate to the more visionary Obama.

Yoo! You a very right man! No matter what, I believe blacks when they go to the booth and see that black face on the ballot and think of the historic possibility of having the first African American president, they will go for obama no doubt! I know I will!!!

I don't blame Rep.John Lewis,a [GIANT] of the civil rights movement...who is he anyway?

But,Obama didn't pay his parking tickets for 18 years, admitted that he took illegal drugs and his middle name is Hussein... Kind of sounds like this [GIANT] of civil rights has it right.
Don't you agree??? This is a no brainer!

It is very disturbing that Clinton does not UNDERSTAND Iran,

“I would engage in negotiations with Iran, with no conditions, because we don’t really understand how Iran works. We think we do, from the outside, but I think that is misleading,” Mrs. Clinton said.

Be afraid, be very afraid

It's a terrible sign of Black fear of success for John Lewis to back Clinton over Obama..

John Lewis is to be respected and admired for his work and, yes, pain in the civil rights movement in the 1960's. However, I'd wager that 95% of the American public hasn't a clue who he is.

Al Gore endorsed Howard Dean in 2004 and what a help that was. This voter tries to get all the facts, postions etc. before pulling that lever.

No matter where the endorsement originates, read between the lines. What is the endorser looking for? A job, contracts, repayment of past favors. Hollywood, especially, and that's why Rob Reiner killed it for me with HRC. Oprah's done a lot for charity quietly and that puts her on a different plane. Wish we had more like her.

Wake up America! Use your heads and think.

I see but its Ok for Women to vote for Hillary because she is a woman

Hello I am an african american woman in St.Louis. I believe it is high time that we the new generation of African Americans stand up to old so called sivil rights leaders. None of them have a backbone b/c if they did they wouldn't be afraid to stand up and support Barack instead of negotiating out of fear. And that fear is the Clinton's. Real leaders of the cause stand by the cause. Just think if MLK would have stood back b/c of fear we would not be where we are today.

May I share something that many are failing to observe? That simple fact is that the greater the accomplishments of Barack Obama the greater the accomplishments of us all. Remember Jackie Robinson, the great pioneer baseball player? Look at the doors he opened up for athletes. Barack Obama is to the American political scene what Jackie Robinson was to the American baseball scene.

Senator Obama has great command of the English language. He presents very complex issues in a way that is easy for him, with great clarity enabling us to comprehend those same complex issues.

Because of Senator Obama’s Presidential campaign, a great door of opportunity is being presented to a new generation of Americans.

The further Obama goes, the further we all go. The sooner he gets there, the sooner we all get there. It’s not just about Obama; it’s about your posterity. Martin Luther King Jr. said that we would get to the Promised Land. We have not gotten there yet. But Barack Obama is helping us to make great strides in that direction. That is why we should fall in ranks behind him and support him with all the gusto we can muster.

We must get over our historical schisms and divisiveness and remember the old adage “together we stand divided we fall.” If ever there was a time to stand together for the good of All Americans, it is now. Obama for President, NOW!

NEWS FLASH !

Blacks are not a Group of Sheep and there are STARK differences between the older Blacks and the younger Blacks like me. Lewis's endorsement of Hillary is not as "substantial" to my age group ( I'm 33 ) as it may be to old Blacks . I am still supporting Barack Obama despite who other so called "Big name Blacks" endorse. Noone owns my vote as a Black American and the sooner the Media realizes that, the sooner they will stop making a big deal over every Black person that doesn't endorse Barack Obama. While I'm at it, the same applies for WOMEN !

I am sick that people are being force fed by the press. She is not the nominee. However, the press and the Republicans would like her to be the nominee. I am a Vietnam Veteran and the Iraq War does not sit well with me. She signed on for the war and has not offered any indication at least to this writer that she would change one thing.

David,
I totally agree with you. I made the same observation. The media and the Republicans machine want Hillary to be the nominee so bad. The reason why I think the Republicans want Hillay is because of the Clinton’s history during their eight years of presidency. When it comes to John Lewis, I have great respect for him and I think he has right to endorse whom he wants. I hope his act won't cost him a lot in a long run. I am Barack Obama supporter and I see in him the hope that America is waiting for. With Hillary, it it is the continuation of Washington politics. The American people won't benefit from her being in the White House. The lobbyists will run the country and we as American will still in the same place we are now. The war in Irak, health care system broke and education. Go Obama and we are being you no matter what. .

Paulo:

What drugs are you that you're so obsessed with Obama's middle name? Or his unpaid parking tickets from 18 years ago?

I'd rather have my president have some unpaid parking tickets ("skeletons") in his closet than the current White House occupant - one who did ILLEGAL DRUGS and got drunk up until he was 40 years old, and to this day refuses to "man up" and admit to doing them.

BTW, will you ever post proof that the "Madrassa school" smear that you pushed back in February actually came from the Hillary Clinton campaign staff? I mean, you've had SEVEN MONTHS TO FIND PROOF - so why HAVEN'T YOU?

Because you're a liar, that's why.

Americans will be foolish not to elect that Obama guy.

What do you expect from people who elected Bush.

Open your eyes Americans, this Barack Obama guy is your only hope!!!!

More bad news for Obama - the latest poll of New Hampshire voters (released today) shows Hillary leading him by 20%.

The hype has faded for Obama - and there was no substance behind all the hype.

The polls don't show what's really happening on the ground.

First, think about this: national polls only talk to 500 people and then we're expected to believe that this is a statistically good sample that represents the entire nation. Right. Second, of those 500 polled, most are not in the states where the election has already been heating up (e.g., IA, NH, SC, NV) so people don't know anything except what the mainstream media spews upon them (i.e., "Hillary is the frontrunner").

As for polls in IA and NH, they also are not accurate representations of what's going on on the ground. Not only is it way too early to begin polling -- three months is a political eternity! -- but also more than 80% of voters in these early states have NOT MADE UP THEIR MIND. Furthermore, polls only reach a very specific group of people -- people who aren't working in the early afternoon and who have landlines. This means young people (who usually only use cell phones) and working people are not polled.

Do your own research and don't let the mainstream media feed you this crap.

The fact that Lewis supports Hillary just stupefies me, as I thought he had more moral courage than that. I truly believe he is endorsing her because of his relationship with Bill, instead of using his intelligence to go with the best possible person in an entire generation...Senator Obama. It certainly lessens my respect for him, because he's always been thought of as a giant and hero of the civil rights movement, and this one act of endorsement of Hillary looks like a quid pro quo kind of thing for previous access to Bill.

Something to consider regarding the Clintons. Let's not forget when the Rwandan genocide occurred in the 1990s and over 1 million people were slaughtered in just a few months. That happened when Clinton was in the White House. They did nothing. Other so-called 'civilized countries' leaders did nothing, either, but they're not running for the presidency, either. Why do people forget about this criminally negligent treatment of over 1 million Africans, and then all one hears is how good Bill Clinton treated African Americans here.

Don't the Clintons have to say something about that disgraceful chapter when they occupied the White House, when they basically did nothing and watched a genocide occur by satellite? If you notice, Bill Clinton never misses a chance for a photo op with Desmond Tutu or Nelson Mandela. It takes people's minds off of the criminal negligence in NOT TRYING to stop that genocide. They did try to stop genocide in Bosnia, however. Is it because they are Europeans? Just asking.

I'm really shocked and disappointed that John Lewis, like George McGovern, would go with someone who TOTALLY BANGED THE DRUM FOR WAR and later 'flip-flopped' but engages in so much calculation and triangulation, ad nauseum. Neither one supported the candidate that had the moral courage to oppose the war from the start and predicted exactly everything that has happened. In other words, the argument of 'judgment' is right on target, and Obama has it. He stands up and speaks truth to power...he did it in Detroit, speaking of CAFE fuel standards; he did it at the NEA; he did it when he said he'd talk to adversaries without preconditions.

On another foreign policy issue, isn't it interesting that Obama's stance on Cuba is finding far more favor in the Cuban American community in Miami than Hillary's post-cold war stance of conventional thinking of not talking to Castro. He's outlived 6 presidents and our squeezing their economy, a tiny communist island in the Caribbean, while having China as our banker and selling us everything we touch in our country, shows us how absolutely absurd and even inhumane our Cuba policy has been, not to mention an utter failure.

Obama came out and said the truth...that the best ambassadors to Cuba are Cuban Americans, themselves, and that he wants unrestricted travel and unrestricted remittances. Bravo...the first common sense Cuba policy statements in over a generation! Once again, Senator Obama is out front, leading in a coherent, intelligent and humane manner. I cannot support anyone else, as no one can come close to the breadth and depth of his diverse and rich body of life experience.

Hillary does not exhibit any moral courage, that I've seen. Conversely, in 2002, Senator Obama spoke out publicly and strongly, against this 'rash, dumb, ideological war of choice'. He did so even though it could have jeopardized his Senate run. He had the moral courage to speak out, even when the Congress was moving in lock-step behind President Bush in banging the drum to go to war. Obama stood up and SPOKE TRUTH TO POWER.

Also, he doesn't pander to any audience. Other politicians tell specific audiences exactly what they want to hear, even if it is wrong for the country. Obama speaks the hard truths to all constituencies he addresses, even if it hurts. America is facing a lot of hard truths these days, and Obama stands out as a unique leader who doesn't sugarcoat the truth. The stakes are too high.

Judgment - Zbignew Brzezinski, one of the most distinguished foreign policy experts in America today, recently formally endorsed him for president, and he said he did so because of Obama's good judgment. He noted how President Kennedy was advised by those all around him to use nuclear weapons during the Cuban Missile Crisis. And yet, this young, wise president had the good judgment to say no to them, and use a naval blockade, instead. He saved us all from an all-out nuclear war! THAT is the good judgment Brzezinski is talking about.

The wisdom that Senator Obama has shown is what our country needs in a president. In contrast, Senators Clinton, Biden, Edwards and Dodd ALL voted for the war and Sen. Clinton didn't even take the time to read the 90 page NIE (National Intelligence Estimate), that was given to all senators, even with 10 days to read the report, before casting the most important vote of her life. That is a double tragedy. First, not reading the report before sending other people's kids off to die or get maimed in a war represents a gross dereliction of duty. Second, she did not ask the hard questions before the vote because she feared looking weak and, already in the midst of planning her presidential run, made a POLITICAL CALCULATION and voted for war. Again, Obama was running for U.S. Senate and DID NOT MAKE A POLITICAL CALCULATION and spoke out vigorously against it, when it was extremely unpopular to do so.

Also, if being first lady in the governor's mansion for 8 years and another 8 years in the White House qualifies as relevant 'experience' to be president, then why not Laura Bush for president? How preposterous is that? This is how the Clinton Machine spins and manipulates perceptions, with Bill Clinton going around calling her 'the most qualified non-incumbent in all his years of voting'. I guess if you repeat something enough times, people believe it. And if one of them is not on the MSM, the other one is, piggybacking each other and hogging the media airwaves, 24/7 in this tag team dog and pony show to saturate American's minds with only Clintons...their images, voices, everywhere you look. I just hope the people in Iowa, NH and South Carolina have their blitzkrieg filters up and running.

And Senator Obama's massive grassroots presidential campaign, made up of average Americans coast-to-coast, is transforming politics as usual and taking it out of the hands of the special interests and giving it back to the people.

The most important thing to remember is this:

The single most important quality in a president is judgment. He's got it. Who got the most important foreign policy decision since the Cold War wrong, and who got it right? This same foreign policy decision caused the WORST FOREIGN POLICY DISASTER IN AMERICAN HISTORY.

Time served in Washington does not equate to good judgment, as the other long-time Washington insiders have proven. In Barack Obama, we have someone who will unite our country and the world.
