Boston Globe columnist Scot Lehigh says Mitt Romney owes Sen. Barack Obama an apology for his recent Obama-Osama slip-up:

Mitt Romney owes Barack Obama an apology. It's as simple as that.

And if you don't believe me, why, just ask our last governor.

Let me explain.

Perhaps you've followed the latest campaign kerfuffle, which began Tuesday when Romney was discussing the new call to jihad from terrorist Osama bin Laden.

"Just look at what Osam - Barack Obama - said just yesterday. Barack Obama, calling on radicals, jihadists of all the different types, to come together in Iraq," Romney said.

A simple slip of the tongue, his campaign insists. And who knows? In normal circumstances, one would be inclined to agree. It is, after all, relatively easy to say Osama when you mean Obama.

He knew exactly what he was saying...I'd believe it if the slip was the other way around but not this. Does he really think people are that stupid?

wa,wa,wa, maybe scott needs his baby bottle. He cries so much about nothing.

I'm not a big Obama fan, but this was clearly done intentionally. If you're going to correct yourself, that indicates a conscience effort to get it right. Romney's not your run-of-the-mill right-wing nut who spends a lot of time in the Swamp. He has the intelligence to get it right if he makes an effort. So getting it wrong had to be done purposely.

This is the kind of "non-event" that can become an "event" the politician (in this case Catcher's Mitt) later regrets.

Stay tuned.

Why it's Paulo Romney.

So, the media feel that the many derogatory names the Left calls President Bush are "fair game," but a slip of the tongue on a name is not. Did you note this columnist or any others wallowing in
anguish when Pete Stark made his comment about Bush sending troops to die "for his amusement?" None that I recall.

Oh get a life willya? Do you think WE'RE that stupid lochness? People make mistakes...I suppose your speech is always spot on. Sen Obama was not nearly as annoyed as his campaign office was.

The point of the full columnn, though, is that Mitt is a hypocrite. When Kerry made a "mistake" by talking about "getting stuck in Iraq," Mitt acknowledged that even if it was a mistake, Kerry had to apologize. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. So Mitt should apologize lest he be considered a Republican hypocrite, a redundancy if there ever was one.

This type of "slip" is usual and customary practice among the conservative crowd.

I have been at social functions with conservative friends and observed the deliberate injection of Obama's name in place of Bin Laden.

If it was a slip up, it was deliberate.

Halsted - nice try defending the indefensible. Pete Stark should never have apologized - he was right the first time.

Where was the outrage when Fatso Kennedy called Obama OSAMA ?????

Diamonddawg: "Do you think WE'RE that stupid?"

Yes.

It's interesting to hear driveby liberal journalists like Scott Lehigh trying to make an issue of Mitt's saying Osama Obama.
Tedddy Kennedy, the archDemocrat said last year when Obama first came on the scene:Osama Obama, Obama Osama the guy from Chicago."
Rush has this quote played over and over and you didn't hear a nasty word from Barack Hussein Obama.
Liberal Democrats and their sychophants in the media stop getting your pants in a wad. Jerry White, Springfield, IL P. S. if I were Obama I would worry more about my close ties to Tony Rezko and Daniel Unruh.

Why would anyone expect Romney to apologize to Obama?

Romney actively sought and received the endorsement of Bob Jones III and Robert R. Taylor, Dean of Bob Jones University.

Considering the company he keeps it's more surprising that Roney hasn't called Obama something worse.

Yeah, they've pulled the same stunt on Fox "News" entertainment shows. Not very original.

Searing criticism there, Jacko. Get it? Kennedy's fat, unlike any Republican.

That Mitt....what a mormon......er moron.

Drunk Murderer Kennedy calls Obama, "Osama," and the media lapdogs yawn.
Mitt Romney slips up and the media roars and the left wing losers go into hyperdrive.
What new?

Republicans always get away with this sort of thing. They called President Clinton a murderer, a rapist, a Communist. And who can forget GOP leader Dick Armey calling Democrat Rep. Barney Frank Barney 'Fag' on the House floor? And of course the Republican media was not outraged by any of this.

This is the age of apology but Romney is not going to apologize. He knows that he is not going to get, and does not want, the vote of any people who feel that what he said was offensive.

Lighten up. I bet Romney has all the black mormon voters on his side. That should be a shoe-in.

Johnny D:

This was no "Slip" - look at the transcript. He started to say Osama, STOPPED, changed it to Obama, and then REPEATED it later in the same paragraph!!!

And I am sure that Senator Kennedy apologized to Barack about his remark. Have you ever seen a Republican do that to a Democrat???

And Jerry - if you get all your news from Rush Limbaugh, you have a serious psychological problem, and should consult a therapist immediately!!!!!

"Just look at what Osam - Barack Obama - said just yesterday. Barack Obama, calling on radicals, jihadists of all the different types, to come together in Iraq," Romney said.

Seems to me like this pandering rich scumbag owes an apology. This kind of stunt will not win him voters outside the deadender republican base.

What a LOSER!!!

This is basically a lose-lose situation for Romney. If he doesn't come across as careless, then he reads as just plain ignorant and xenophobic.

Either way, its a huge turn off to a 24 year old open-minded voter like myself.

Should he apologize? YES! Or he can add arrogant to that list as well.

And I think we can all agree, as a country these qualities have gotten us nowhere.

Kelly,

Amen.

Obama/Osama - okay, slip of the tongue.

Repeating his full name 'Barack Obama' twice, and claiming he confused it with 'Osama bin Laden'? I doubt it.

But if he's that easily confused, I hate to think what he'd call other world leaders if he were President. Gordon Brown becomes 'the Brownshirt leader'? Angela Merkel becomes 'the Mercantile Exchange'? Romney's getting pretty far afield imo.

Little Johnny,if you are allowed to call a US Senator a Drunken Murderer than I should be allowed to say the same about Laura Bush who also killed someone after blowing a stop sign.

To everyone saying he shouldn't apologize, what happened to the principle of being the bigger person and saying your sorry. I think that's a reasonable expectation of a religious conservative. Got to walk it, just not talk it. Its obvious that even if an honest "slip", it feeds a lot of wildly unreasonable fears. Plus, it puts Mitt on Paulo's level, which is bad enough on its own.

What, Mitler Wizard Rommel apologize?
Never!

The columnist owes Romney, and anyone with an IQ in double digits, an apology.

Romney should apologize. But we know he won't. Even if his words regarding Kerry are used to remind him of his earlier demand, Romney, the "Who-me? Houdini" of the Republican party will contend he never said any such thing and in fact was always the opposite of wherever his tongue led him. He didn't mean to endorse pro-choice, pro-gay marriage issues when running for Gov in Mass. In fact, he's always been staunchly opposed except for when he was conveniently for. Just like now, I mean, then.

Bruce, when you say "double digits", are you referring to two fingers instead of one?

The New Yorker article by Ryan Lizza "The Mission" states that a member of the ..NAACP.. acts that way because of their..DNA..If one changes a few nouns to :Jews,Blacks Catholics, women ,or you choose a word, this hit piece shows the bigotry of the elite. The member is a woman .

It is well known that CNN and MSNBC have made this error several times .EMOTIONS AND FEELINGS ARE DEFEATED WITH LIES. By repeating it , one is reminded of last weeks poll that stated that DAD protected us better.Do not act like victim.

Well, we're waiting MITT! APOLOGIZE! If anyone running as an American presidential candidate curls over on his tongue the name not once but twice, and the entire name, not just the first name, and had time to think about it while incorporating the name into the whole story, then that person in no way deserves to be president of the United States. It means he's either sick, mentally deranged, or using that name on purpose. Step off the presidential run podium Mitt or hurry up and APOLOGIZE to Senator Obama.

What a gaffe! I accidentally called Mitt Willard Romney, Mitler Wizard Rommel!

I'm sorry, my mistake.

(Mitt; see how easy?)

The columnist owes Romney, and anyone with an IQ in double digits, an apology.
