Four fires were extinguished today inside two Senate office buildings, but no evacuations or arrests were made.
The fires, which were all called “suspicious in nature,” occurred inside trash cans in four different women’s bathrooms, said Capitol Police Sgt. Kimberly Schneider. No one was injured.
Three fires were in Dirksen Senate Office Building while another took place in Hart Senate Office Building between about 10:45 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Both are located near the U.S. Capitol.
The police department put out the first three fires within a matter of minutes. The fire department assisted with the last one because it “generated more smoke than the others,” Schneider said.
The fires are under investigation, she said.
