The Tonight Show: Heeeere's.... Ron Paul: The Swamp

The Swamp

by Andrew Malcolm

Well, the tension is mounting today as the world waits to see what scripted joke Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul will drop tonight during his negotiated dialogue with Jay Leno.

Paul, whose political passion can come across as strident and pushy on the TV debates, is not known for his comebacks, one-liners, quips or even smiles, although he's got a big grin on his website.

As we've noted before, NBC's Tonight Show with Jay Leno has become a required stop for candidates to show a more human side to potential American voters when the kids are tucked in and the adults are preparing for bed and have fewer distractions, though it's actually taped late afternoon California time.

Already this year Jay has hosted John Edwards twice (Jan. 10 and June 25 with Elizabeth), Tom Vilsack (Feb. 15), whose candidacy didn't last much longer than his program segment, Joe Biden (March 22), Mitt Romney (May 2), Bill Richardson (May 11), John McCain (June 28), Barack Obama (Oct. 17), Dennis Kucinich (Sept. 24) and Fred Thompson on June 12, when he announced he might announce, and Sept. 5, when he actually announced he would announce.

Paul, a former Libertarian Party candidate for president, has, as we've noted, a range of non-traditional ideas that have placed him on the flanks of the Republican Party debates. He's a strict Constitutionalist with outspoken views against the Iraq war and American interventionism. He's suggested that the U.S. caused the 9/11 attacks by its bombing of Iraq, which drew barbs from other Republicans, mainly national GOP front-runner Rudy Giuliani.

Paul did well in numerous minor straw polls and has attracted to his political niche a fervent band of thousands of followers who patrol the sidewalks and interstate bridges with "Ron Paul 08" signs and monitor the Internet for any mention of their underdog candidate and jump in to praise or defend him. The Times' Scott Martelle recently followed two Paulites seeking some GOP delegates in the Bay Area.

In their own chat rooms Paul supporters discuss writers they don't like and advise each other on how best to represent Dr. Paul, an ob-gyn and 10-term Texas congressman.

Then, in the third-quarter fundraising reporting period, the 72-year-old political veteran surprised many political observers by raising $5 million, 78% of it online, and a total that's five times as much as the better-known Mike Huckabee, who is taken more seriously. But although Paul languishes in single digits in most polls, money talks in politics.

So now, having already launched a series of radio ads in four early states, Paul has decided to spend $1.1 million on a pair of TV commercials in New Hampshire. In one, Paul stands before a copy of the Constitution and boasts that he is the only candidate of either party to promise an immediate Iraq withdrawal, budget-cutting and a veto of any deficit spending. "Once we stop wasting trillions overseas, we can cut the budget and still help people who need it," he says.

In the other a group of seemingly ordinary citizens praise Paul. "I don't always agree with him," one says, "but he's honest and you always know where he stands." Another adds, "He's catching on, I'm telling ya."

As long as he's in California for the NBC-TV show, Paul has scheduled a 7 p.m. fundraiser at an unannounced Hollywood Hills residential address revealed only to those who actually donate online.

Tonight thanks to Leno, a few million Americans who've never heard of the man with two first names, will get their first exposure to a representative known in Congress as Dr. No for his anti-spending votes. During the night his dedicated followers, who include a wide-range of conservatives including some 9/11 conspiracy believers, will busily work the Web to magnify the impact of Paul's rare national TV appearance.

Ron Paul is the ONLY person running, for either party, that says what he thinks, as opposed to Talking Point #5.

It remains to be seen how many people want actual honesty...

or whether they really want someone who promises them heaven earth, at the expense of their enemies.

Andrew,
Thanks for the nice write up!

Hopefully this is just anohter step in pushing ROn Paul to the nomination. His online donations increase dramatically with every national appearance. Ron Paul is the champion of the constitution and librety. Remember to donate this September 5th in what will be the largest single day onine fundraising event in history.

Great write up!

You said "thousands" of followers, but the guy has almost 60,000 campaign volunteers on meetup.com who are working to get him elected, that is more than all the other candidates combined. Ron Paul is the grassroots choice.

At least pretend to be an impartial journalist... Talk about a skewed portrait of Ron Paul...

This article makes a false claim when it says that Ron Paul blames the US for 9/11 for its bombing of Iraq. He never said that. He simply repeated what our own military has stated which is that the foreign policies of the US in the middle east can can and has resulted in "blowback," which may be the reason we were bombed. He never said it specifically was because we bombed Iraq. The writer of this article should fix that quote.

This article was a bit slanted. The insert, "who take Huckabee more seriously", come on, Huckabee is a country bumpkin, how could anyone take a yokel like Huckabee seriously? I'd take a doctor, former air force surgeon, more seriously than a baptist minister anyday. Additionally, the insert about asssociating 911 conspiracy freaks with Paulites is trite and way overblown. The writer needs some new material.

Great post on another note recent polls suggest Paul can beat Clinton read more...

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA—Public opinion service Rasmussen Reports recently released data from its October 12-14 polling that indicates that Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul leads his GOP opponents against Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton among likely voters ages 30-49. He is the leading White House contender for the key demographic, polling higher than Clinton among baby boomers. Congressman Paul polls in at 47 %, compared with Clinton’s 44%, among likely voters aged 40-49.

The 30-49 demographic has been a key indicator in recent elections, and one in which Republicans tend to fare well in hotly-contested elections. In 2004, exit polls reveal that George Bush beat John Kerry 53% to 46% among 30-44 year olds, and all accounts indicate that this will be the most instrumental demographic in the 2008 presidential election as well.

non-traditional ideas? when did tradition start, seven years ago?

Thank you for the article, Andrew. I think Dr. Paul will do much better in the primaries than the mainstream polls indicate. And his views are much less on the flanks of the party as the party is beyond the flanks of the Constitution's limits on federal power.

Thanks for the great article, though the reminder of 9/11 conspiracies at the end was a bit disconcerting. Paul is the only one with a rational realistic grasp of foreign policy. It would be sad to see a genuine man of peace tagged as a conspiracy theorist.

Come on, Malcolm, at least have some sort of understanding of the candidates' position before you say something in an article like "He's suggested that the U.S. caused the 9/11 attacks by its bombing of Iraq." That we bombed Iraq repeatedly during the Clinton years is just ONE example of how our constant interference in the middle east, including acts of violence that kill innocent civilians, has earned us the wrath of that part of the world. Ron Paul clearly stated that it is our long history of foreign policy in the area that caused the attacks, and the CIA as well as Bin Laden himself said the same thing. Have some sense of perspective and a modicum of insight into the issues you write about, please.

P.S. - Ron Paul is actually the MOST traditional candidate! It doesn't get more "traditional" than trying to get us back to the form of government our founders meant us to inherit!

A decent write up. Paul is disliked by other Republicans because of his TRADITIONAL stances not his non-traditional stances.

Great article overall. Please remember that Dr. Paul blames bad foreign policy for blowback on 9.11.2001 , and the CIA agrees with Dr. Paul. He does not blame the "US" and would never blame the citizens. Thank you and I will be tuned in tonight.

yeah I love how his ideas are non-traditional.

hahahaha, he follows the "tradition" of the forefathers of the USA, a "tradition" set out for us in the late 1700s, but that would not be traditional?

What is traditional if the constitution is not traditional?

also thousands of internet followers? like hundreds of thousands more like..

otherwise nice writeup! thanks.

Who could take Huckabee more seriously than Ron Paul. Huckabee has virtually zero education while Ron Paul went to Duke Medical School. IQ wise, Dr. Paul is at least equal to anyone in the race, but unlike the other smart candidates Ron Paul has a sense of morality. I think Rudy, Hillary and Edwards are plenty smart but I do not trust them. I trust Obama, but I hate his politics.

Why is it that every write up on Ron Paul has to be slanted? Do reporters actually hand in a fair report and the editor stops them and tells them that they did not call Paul an underdog who cannot possible win, and they forgot to mention the truthers and white power geeks?

What is this all about:
"..scripted joke Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul.."
Ron Paul is neither scripted nor a joke. He is passionate about the constitution, repealing the so-called Patriot Act, bringing our troops home, and fixing the current tax fiasco. Is there something funny or amusing about that?

While this article is certainly slanted towards a negative view of Dr. Paul, some mention is better than no mention so thanks for publishing it. Hopefully this will at least get people to want to learn more about Paul so they can see that he represents what America really needs.

Once again, someone who hasn't been following Ron Paul thinks he can just sit down and write a news piece on him. You are misrepresenting Dr. Paul’s stance on Iraq for one. Following the advise and conclusion of the 911 report and the CIA Paul basis his foreign policy on the concept of "blowback." Blowback is unintended consequences that arise from our aggressive foreign policy. The people in the Middle East and the Near East Asia are not robots, the small amount of them who really hate America do so because of US occupying forces in their Holy Land and the slaughter of their neighbors in the interest of US hegemony. Paul advocates a peaceful foreign policy where we remove the motivation for these angry people to attack us by leaving the region. Our policy there has not worked and we are less safe than before the invasion of Iraq (also according to the CIA). Ron Paul is not a pacifist or a proponent of retreat, but rather he is willing to attempt a new approach based on sound arguments that will be more effective in achieving US aims; namely, peace, liberty and a strong economy.

Do we hear anyone say Mitt Romney's supporters are expected to show up, some of whom support polygamy? Do we hear some of Hillary's supporters are environmental terrorists? Do we hear that some of Obama's supporters are racists? Do we hear that some of Edwards supporters are slimy trial lawyers? Are Giuliani supporters sadists?

Ridiculous.

I am an intelligent Ron Paul supporter. Get with the program. Your attacks are what was popular last spring. Stop recycling the same article.

Thanks for the write up! However, you are mistaken when you say that Dr. Paul claims the U.S. caused the 9/11 attacks. He doesn't at all. Dr. Paul subscribes to the CIA's assesment that 9/11 was blowback; the result from years of failed foreign policy. The terrorists did it, pure and simple. BTW, he's the ONLY candidate talking about our horrible fiscal policy and how to fix it. Dr. Paul has remedies; we should take them.
Thanks again!

Well, no one has called you a name yet (I don't think), so it wasn't a horrible article. I agree that you might want to consider researching a bit more when talking about the good ol' doc. His followers are loyal and have his voting record and arguments practically memorized. That fact alone makes it a bit tougher to get a half-truth by.

home hometown of Baltimore isn't the greatest place for well informed journalism, but I will admit that I was expecting worse. I appreciate the article but I, like many others have commented, take issue to the association with 9/11 'truthers' (as if that was a verb we could turn into a noun), the misrepresenting of his statements on the cuases of 9/11, and the judgement that he is perhaps unfunny. A quick view of his performance on the Colbert Report would dismay you from making that kind of comment.

Pathetic attempt to slander a great candidate for president. Poorly written, and clearly slanted with an objective in mind. Could he be more obvious.

Republican for Ron Paul!

Go Ron Paul!

There you go again Andrew. There you go again. Using what you think are your clever writing skills to insinuate doubt and ridicule without coming out like a brave man and stating your opinion up-front without tricks. "...the world waits to see what scripted joke Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul will drop..." Clever boy! Tying those adjectives together so it reads as if Ron Paul is a 'scripted joke'. Go on now - chuckle again over your own cleverness.

An objective article on this important Presidential candidate would be appreciated. When can we expect one?

Oh give me a break. Don't you guys get tired of ruining your reputation by printing the same old lies over and over?

You do realize we have TV sets? You do realize we actually heard what Ron Paul said during that debate right?

You do realize that the head of the CIA's Bin Laden division came out and said that every pundit and every other candidate on the stage got it wrong and Ron Paul got it right?

Since when is looking for a motive for a crime giving the criminal an excuse?

I suppose you all write these biased lies so that you can get "hits" on your articles, but you look like a guy who doesn't know how to do any research and spent two seconds writing this up.

You clearly know nothing about Ron Paul and it makes you look like someone who cannot be believed in the future. I KNOW you are lying in this article. I will assume that you will do so again in your next articles.

If anyone wants the real scoop on Ron Paul go to the Ron Paul Library - look for it on Google - and READ.

Ron Paul is the greatest statesmen of our time and you all treat him like a hobo. I wonder how you would have treated Patrick Henry or Ben Franklin or Thomas Jefferson.

So you think that following the rule of law in this country is odd? I suppose so, with a writeup like this.

P.S. I have a PhD from Yale. I am not a fool. I support Ron Paul because I have learned about him.

It this the best the The Baltimore Sun can do?

Shame on you Mr.Malcolm for such a nasty, biased and ill informed piece.

I find your assertion that Congressman Paul has " a range of non-traditional ideas that have placed him on the flanks of the Republican Party debates" positively ignorant.

I've been a conservative Republican for well over 35 years and now finally have some hope for the GOP.
Ron Paul is Founding Father material.

Since when are conservative Jeffersonian/Robert Taft ideas "non-traditional"?

How can you fit so many twisted barbs into a otherwise fine article. Do you hate Ron Paul, or is someone telling you that you must include the negative jabs. I guess I am happy that you are actually writing about Ron Paul. But I guess the media has to wake up sometime or loose all their readers after Ron Paul wins in 2008

Who ever wrote this must be related to Sean Hannity and work for Faux News. What a pile of horse manure.

Instead of listening to this foolish journalist incorrectly summarize the Dr.'s views, listen to him on Leno and draw your own conclusions. It is clear to me that most writers, out of their own ignorance, will not give Mr. Paul a fair shake.

He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.
He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.
Dr. Paul has delivered over 4000 babies.

It is unnecessary to listen to what he says if you take the time to investigate what he has done.

I was at the Republican Tent at the Illinois State Fair in August and I met two Ron Paul fans. They were off the wall--talking loudly about his virtues and pestering fair goers ad infinitum. The tent manager politely told them to tune it down or they were going to leave the tent. Pauls' constitutional ideas are somewhat like Ross Perot. Paul seems to be the crazy old man in the attic. I'm really a scared of his radical and eccentric ideas. It takes more than a high IQ to be elected but, common sense would help. Jerry White, Springfield, IL P.S. Mitt Romney won the State Fair straw poll leaving Paul in the dust.

Just read Ron Paul's speech BEFORE the Iraq invasion (Delivered on 8 October 2002 on the floor of the House):

http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Ron_Paul's_Iraq_Speech

He understood the situation then, and he understands it now.

A fair writeup. Thanks! Only thing I take issue with is that he isn't blaming the US for the attacks so much as US policy. He knows the american people had nothing do with that nonsense

Ron Paul showed a great sense of humor on The Daily Show and on The Colbert Report.

Presidential debates are not a laughing matter, and apparently Ron Paul's serious approach has paid off -- he has finished either first or second in every post debate poll, and has risen from obscurity to raise over ten million dollars so far and attract more than 60,000 volunteers in over 1,000 Meetup groups nationwide.

"Ron Paul is neither scripted nor a joke."

Drew D., I think he was wondering what joke Ron would tell on the Tonight Show tonight. He runs a frugal campaign - he comes up with his own jokes!

“Non-traditional ideas,” what? He’s a constitutionalist, that’s pretty damn traditional. “U.S caused the 9/11 attacks by its bombing of Iraq,” is there anyone calling themselves a journalist that understands the meaning of context. He was referring to blowback; Iraq is just one of many countries that kill us because were over there.

Thanks for writing about Dr. Paul.

I'll be watching Leno tonight. I'm sure there will be some scripted jokes, but you can hardly blame Ron for that; Leno's show has always been heavily scripted.

Also, Iagree with poster "Bob." It is unfortunate in my opinion that so many journalists feel the need to focus on a small (and obnoxious) demographic of Ron Paul supporters who are conspiracy nuts, when every other candidate has their little group of creepy supporters.

Hillary has environmental terrorists and hard-core totalitarian socialists.

Romney has some real polygamists, and nobody should hold that against him.

Huckabee has the hard-right-religious people; a number of which are incredibly intolerant.

Edwards has supporters who are slimy trial lawyers.

Everyone has their demographic that they're not excited about; that's politics.

Journalists should focus on the policies and personal views of candidates, instead of cherry picking a couple creepy supporters.

All in all though, I enjoyed your article. Thanks !

RON PAUL is enemy #! to liberal reporters; and those that want to make a name for themselves with the monied elite power brokers who own the mass media.

RON PAUL WILL WIN!

Thanks! For the sideswipe. I guess being cast as fringe or not "NORMAL" today ain't quite so bad. Especially when all the "normal" folks still believe in WMDs in Iraq, Al-Qaida/Iraq connections, and are too bust keeping up with Britney Spears or Dancing with the stars to figure out the truth anyway.

This article was rather negative and severely misreports on Dr. Paul.

First, while the media gushes at other candidates when they appear on their shows, you preemptively accuse Dr. Paul of planning on having scripted responses to Jay Leno. What basis do you have for this, other than the vast generalization that he is a politician? Do the other candidates provide better one-liners than he does? After all, Dr. Paul evokes the loudest responses (both positive and negative) during debates. One would think that such reactions are due to more than his smile Mr. Malcolm.

Second, he is known for his traditional Republican values. A limited federal government and strong personal liberties were ideas expressed by the founders, especially Thomas Jefferson. His disdain for political maneuvering by leading party factions is supported by George Washington and James Monroe. If these examples don't hold up to your arbitrary relevancy measures on the basis of time, then consider Barry Goldwater's and Ronald Reagan's platforms of limited government. Let's hope that your "non-traditional" label was a typo.

Third, Dr. Paul believes the radicalization of what other candidates refer to with the laughable title of "Islamofascists" is due to a string of middle east intervention in the 20th century. The US's blind support for Israel, support for the Shah of Iran, support for Iraq in the 1980s wars with Iran, funding radical Madrasahs in the 1980s to foster radical Mujahideen to combat the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the harsh economic sanctions on Iraq after the first Gulf War, operations in Somalia during the early 90s, heavy involvement with the oil industry in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the UAE, Military bases or operations in the majority of middle-east countries, alleged CIA manipulations of sovereign governments, and the alleged use of torture. I would have assumed that a journalist in your position would have a sense of history to accurately state Ron Paul's position that 9/11 was in large part due to what the CIA terms "blowback" to foreign intervention. Your simplified "bombing of Iraq" answer is laughable. You are in the business of reporting news and yet you are unable to connect the dots between past intervention, present occupation, and the potential for future involvement in the region notably in a ramp up of hostilities with Iran (which the media and pundits comment on a near daily basis) with the strong negative sentiment that the US has amongst people of middle-eastern and central-Asian origins.

In the past there were "justified wars" based on "casus belli". Many of these interventions could easily be applied as casus belli by foreign countries in the region, and therefore by their people as well. Consider as Dr. Paul mentions, how you would feel if a foreign country's intervention affected your rights and country's sovereignty in the US. Consider if either directly or indirectly that intervention lead to the injury or death of a family member or friend. Would you not have justification to be upset? While an individual with hope will make the best of his or her situation, those who are desperate take extreme measures. While the killing of civilians is never justified, and those responsible for 9/11 are rightly labeled terrorists, it is inane to think the US government did not provoke such actions. I stress the "US government" and not Americans at-large, because it is unfair to deem every individual equally responsible for the actions of our government. It would be inane to suggest the people at-large were somehow responsible for the government's horrid response to Hurricane Katrina, and thus it is equally inane to suggest the people at-large were somehow responsible for 9/11.

Finally, your generalizations regarding Ron Paul's supporters is particularly insulting. I don't see you labeling Senator McCain's supporters as "war-mongers" and "the technology unsavvy elderly". Why do you feel it is therefore appropriate to mention Dr. Paul's supporters who are conspiracy theorists and those who use political chat rooms? Perhaps your next article should concentrate on accurately reporting Dr. Paul's platform and public appearances Mr. Malcolm. Spend less time citing obscure and misleading information on candidates, but more trying to ensure you report correctly on basic platform issues and reasoning.

Dr. Paul served in the military, is a doctor, and fights to secure personal liberties in Congress. You write for a political blog. If you are going to criticize Dr. Paul, at least be good at it. After all, it's your job.

Interesting how all the Ron Paul supporters have to "fix" this article for all the half truths in it.

There was a time in my life where I didn't think there was a bias in the media. That was a long time ago.

There was a time where I thought Foxnews was fair and balanced, that was not so long ago.

With age comes wisdom.

This article was very poorly written. I understand that each and every one has a personal political preferenece. It was obvious however, that the writer of this article had an anti-Ron Paul agenda and that is poor journalism and doesn't reflect well onto the Baltimor Sun.

How about a neutral article and sticking to the facts?

- Ron Paul never said that bombing Iraq caused us to be attacked at 9/11.

- Ron Paul's non-traditional ideas go back to the...Constitution!

- And to state that Paul languishes in polls yet money talks in politics is another non-sense sentence. He won most strawpolls. Ron Paul dominated every internet and text message vote. And although I agree that money talks in politics we must acknowledge that the money was raised by the people! If he were such an outsider as you make him to be he wouldn't have raise that much money. It's not like he contributed $12 Million of his own money as other wealthy candidates have done. Yes, money talks but the origin of where the money came from talks even louder.

*** watch out for November 5th. Then we'll see how much support Ron Paul truly has!***

I hate how journalists and articles call us that comment online as organized and scour the net for ways to defend him. Its just that he say so much support that are internet savvy. How frustrating for me, i dont know a single one of ya who have posted.

"During the night his dedicated followers, who include a wide-range of conservatives including some 9/11 conspiracy believers, will busily work the Web to magnify the impact of Paul's rare national TV appearance."

Hillary Clinton dedicated followers, who include a wide range of liberals including communist party USA members, will busily work the web to magnify the impact of Clinton's saturated national TV appearances.

But you'll never see the second in an article.

We have had seven years of comebacks, one-liners, quips, and smiles. I think we are looking for something a little different this time. It has not served us well.

Ron Paul did not suggest that the U.S. caused the 9/11 attacks. Rudy suggested that Ron Paul suggested that. Did you know that Rudy 'lived through 9/11'? He is an expert on the subject. Mr. 9/11 knows why they attacked us - It is because we are 'free'.

You using talking points right now you hack! He stacked the deck, dark horse, nazis will vote for him your a hack and should be fired.

"Paul, a former Libertarian Party candidate for president, has, as we've noted, a range of non-traditional ideas that have.."

What? Ron Paul has traditional, conservative ideas!

Oh right, the 9/11 conspiracy theorist support Ron Paul. I forgot that they are his base. Thanks for the reminder.

What ever happened to "journalism?!" I thought this was a news article, NOT an editorial.

How sad that you too obviously believe everything you see and hear.

Those who HAVE found Ron Paul did so via "research." I know this is a foreign concept to many in the media, but it's worth doing every once in a while BEFORE writing an article...

Hey, Jerry from Springfield, IL. You do know that Mitt paid to bus-in HUNDREDS of people to vote for him the IL state fair poll, don't you? And that the people supporting Paul arranged their own transportation and paid their own way into the fair, right? So you allegedly met a couple of big mouths at the Paul tent. That's unfortunate, but nothing compared to the non-stop hate-mongering that Dr. Paul and his supporters face every day from neocon bloggers, know-nothings and MSM reporters (but I repeat myself).

Ron Paul has a very calm and stately demeanor in all of his interviews.

He made the audience laugh with a "one-liner" on the Daily Show when he made a joke about entertainers making good money. He's smiling all the time, but only when it's sincere.

He takes the debates seriously and he should. If you had only 4-5 minutes to speak at a debate you wouldn't be telling jokes either.

If we assume Paul's supporters are about 3 times as loyal as your average supporter of one of the other Republican candidates, you can multiply his percentage of the vote times 3. That's not even counting independents, democrats, and other apathetic voters who don't normally vote in primaries and are thus excluded as 'likely primary voters' in polling. Furthermore, many younger people only have cell phones, which traditional polling misses.

Mr. Malcolm, way to demonstrate the sad state of American education. Some institution of "higher learning" probably actually issued you a degree. As demonstrated by your writing, and many of your ilk; maybe you should get your money back. Or, was it taxpayer subsidized? Either way, please try harder next time.

Reading through articles like this and the comments that follow, I am impressed time and again that the supporters of Ron Paul are educated, thoughtful, intelligent, and understand. Why is it that so many critics get the same things wrong time and again? Don't they know how to listen, think, and understand? Do they not know how to read, investigate, and research?

Great comments about Mr. Malcolm's misuse or mischaracterization of "tradition."

Rather biased article. It is bordering on factually incorrect on several points.

Suggestion... For Halloween don't forget to drop your favorite Ron Paul flyer in the kids bag. Great way to promote!!!

Dear Journalists everywhere:

Beware! The lies you tell to serve your masters' narrow interests are becoming visible. What your readers took on faith from you in the past just won't wash anymore.

You now risk the loss of your vast readership to reliable news organizations. If your readers cannot trust you to tell the truth what are they going to do? Find 'reliable and trustworthy news sources' that's what.

So what are you gonna do? Better act fast before the dwindling supply of readership trust is gone completely.

Let me suggest something. Tell the truth. A radical idea. But an idea whose time has come. And nothing is more powerful than that. Come on over to the winning side - the side of truth.

Way to go Andrew! It is AWESOME to see another slanted and pathetic hack job attack against the ONLY Honorable Statesman left in our country. When will you so called "Journalist" realize that more and more Americans are seeing through your yellow journalism?

Keep up the good work. It only makes Ron Paul's message stronger!

"First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win." - Mahatma Gandhi

I am notifying all my family and friends of Dr. Paul's TV appearance tonight. I about attaching this article, until I read it. Like most articles about Ron Paul, a few negative brush-strokes to paint a skewed image of this great candidate and discredit him and his campaign. But thanks for some coverage!

Interesting article for what it shows about Andrew Malcolm more than what it distorts about Dr. Paul.

So, Andrew, which Democrat do you support? What's your position on the iraq situation?

A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history. - Mohandas Gandhi

""will busily work the Web to magnify the impact"""???? YOU ARE GOING TO GET LEFT WITH COMMENTS LIKE THAT. You dont get it, do you?

Hey this is a very fair right up of Ron Paul. Some Ron Paul supporters tend to get defensive, but please realize that most inaccuracies are not malicious in intent; they simply come from a lack of understanding and ignorance of Ron Paul's ideals. It's no lie to say that Ron Paul's positions are outside the mainstream. They are. It will take steady determination by Ron Paul and his supporters to bring these ideals into the mainstream. Then America will have the chance to debate them and decide where we want to move as a country. That's democracy in action.

Ron Paul is definitely known for his snappy come backs and one liners. He's running for president and he thinks its serious, thats why he remains astute when in debates.

"Paul, whose political passion ..., is not known for his comebacks, one-liners, quips or even smiles,"

You obviously did not catch the witty Ron Paul on Jon Stewart's, Bill Maher's, or Colbert's shows.

Further, your hack piece shows your unprofessional bias. Stick to the facts and leave the opinions and generalizations to bloggers.

I realized today, that Ron Paul is going to win.

Ron Paul is filling the 'likable nutcase' role in this election cycle. (BTW, will it ever end?)

In past elections this role has been filled by Perot, McCain, and Howard Dean.

Of course, I don't think Ron is really nuts. But he, like the afore mentioned, is prone to shout out exactly what he thinks.

Now that is political suicide in America.

Did Andrew write similar hit-pieces when the other candidates appeared on Leno or was his distortion reserved for Paul only?

Thanks for the press. There were some misrepresentations. I trust you meant no harm. Other people have corrected most of them. Here's just one more. Ron Paul never scripts anything. A few months ago I volunteered to review potential questions for one of the debates. The campaign representative I talked to said thanks but no thanks. He said they never prepare for loaded questions or anything like that. He reminded me that Ron Paul is extremely intelligent and has consistent principles. Silly me.

To be clear, this was not a journalist piece, this was an editorial. Journalism collects the facts, void of the snide adjectives.

It is full of opinion. Things such as:
"He's suggested that the U.S. caused the 9/11 attacks by its bombing of Iraq"
and...
"Paul did well in numerous minor straw polls"; which ones were minor? Who determined this?
as well as the fact you mention he was a one time libertarian presidential candidate, however only say he is a ten term congressman (not mentioning Republican, giving the precept that he may be a Libertarian representative).
Oh, this all, not to mention you throw in the 911 conspiracy folks. Sure, people that think 911 was an inside job support Paul, and I am sure black supremicists support Obama too, but that does not make Obama a black supremicist, and it does not make Paul a 911 conspirator.
If you are going to lump the 911 conspirators in with Paul's name, you better mention he opposes the position of a government contrived 911. (he is sympathetic to the criminal negligence position if I recall correctly).

Other than that, wonderful piece!

Attention all Americans who foolishly assert that Ron Paul supporters and 9-11 Truthers are whackos. Have you thoroughly researched the felony allegations that have not only been made by Alex Jones...but, also, by countless hundreds of credible "experts"--including professors, engineers, law enforcement personnel, airline pilots, and active and retired military officers. Go to http://www.1-free-dvd.com and order the FREE DVDs that provide the public the truth about this government "false flag" domestic terrorism-event. Moreover, Ted Lee Gunderson, a former FBI Division Chief who also happens to be an "expert witness" in federal court cases as well as an expert in "crime scene analysis" has thoroughly research 9-11 and concluded that it was an "inside job" by Black Ops personnel and other rogues within the U.S. government. General Partin, a former Air Force explosives expert, has drawn the same conclusion...along with hundreds of other credible "experts" as stated above.

All those who deny the evidence of this are naives, fools or, perhaps, "accomplices" to the crime. Those who foolishly ignore or deny the 9-11 "evidence" and "information" proving the true fact that it is a horrific mass murder orchestrated by rogues within the government are deliberately or unwittingly aiding and abetting in this felony crime--as also is the mainstream controlled media. These same foolish people more likely than not beleive that Oswald was the lone shooter of JFK; there was no John Doe number 2 in the OKC bombing; the FBI did not furnish a "live bomb" to the Arab patsie in the 1993 parking garage bombing of the World Trade Center; that Hillary Clinton is scandaless true patriot; the CIA has never smuggled narcotics into the U.S.; that the attack on Pearl Harbor was a "surprise attack;" and, worse, that its OK to trade liberty for security in times of emergency notwithstanding the true fact that the U.S. Supreme Court has previously ruled that the Constitution cannot be suspended for this reason (Bush did it anyway). Never...and I repeat "never" in the history of this nation have so many "officials" and "citizens" been so brainwashed/programmed into accepting CORPORATE COLLECTIVISM and a POLICE STATE as "legitimate." As for me, a Private Criminal Investigator, I--like Ted Gunderson and others--know the truth: THE REAL ENEMY IS WITHIN!!! ...and Ron Paul is the only truly honest presidential candidate who can eradicate the rampant crime and corruption in government that is destroying this nation. For this reason, the unAmerican, antiAmerican, EVIL FORCES (the real and diabolical criminal element within) are the same ones who are opposing this noble gentleman and bona fide Statesman. Shame on all of you refuse, neglect or otherwise fail to recognize what is true from what is a lie.

P.S. "Andrew Malcolm" is probably not this writer's real name (I believe)...and if it is...he bring's shame to the Malcolm Clan (the family that which I belong. I challenge this to a dual in the boxing arena (but, I'd certainly prefer the Claymore sword as the weapon of choice.) I refuse to believe Andrew is a genuine "Malcolm." It is my opinion that he is a plant.

Just wait till we spam the election. Then its gonna be even more of a joke.

Colorado Loves Ron Paul!

Very negatively biased veiwpoint of PAUL. The truth will tell for the actual amount of support he has during the primaries.

Ron Paul never "suggested that the U.S. caused the 9/11 attacks by its bombing of Iraq," what he did was point out that the 9/11 attacks were a reaction decades of U.S. Government intervention in the Middle East, INCLUDING the bombing of Iraq.

Mr. Giuliani's claim that Paul suggested we "invited" the attacks was nothing more than a straw-man argument on the part of Giulinai.

Dr. Paul openly acknowledges that the attacks of 9/11 were unjust, but points out that if we want to prevent further such atttacks, we need to reform our foreign policy.

Sincerely,
Alex Peak

You gotta love (hate) these MSM "journalists"! They will put down Ron Paul supporters for "rabidly" defending Ron Paul and attacking the "journalists" who write negative portrayals of Dr. Paul - then they write about his "non-traditional ideas" - inviting angry correction by RP supporters - like me.

(Hint: The Republican (and American) tradition of ideas did not begin in the year 2000 with Dick and W, and the very idea that upholding the Constitution could be described by a writer working for a major newspaper as "non-traditional" speaks volumes about the current state of the MSM and our cultural views that are being shaped by these idiots.)

By "a range of non-traditional ideas", I assume that you would then call George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Hancock and other framers of the Constitution "non-traditionalists".

"Paul, whose political passion can come across as strident and pushy on the TV debates, is not known for his comebacks, one-liners, quips or even smiles"

Yes, apparently demeanor is the most important qualification for a US president nowadays. We've seen this in 2000: yes, George Bush hardly knows what he's talking about - but, for God's sake, Al Gore sighs during the debates!

And the main(downstream) media at faux is fair and balanced? Check this out and see for yourself!
lewrockwell.com/blog/lewrw/archives/016495.html

I was a Ron Paul supporter before I ever read any comments about 9/11 or visited any 9/11 truth website because of the other issues he speaks about such as taxes, the Fed, limited government. None of the 9/11 truther comments would make me change my mind that he is the best candidate and would make an exceptional President.

Besides, what if the Truthers are right? If Ron Paul commissions an independent investigation as he has suggested he might, then either the Truthers will be proven wrong and they can find another past time or they will be proven right and the asleep media will be found to have egg on their faces. Either way, we all win.

So, vote for Ron Paul on the issues he fights for, not the side bar issues his supporters may argue (which have not been proven wrong OR right). None of it makes Ron Paul himself a Truther just like Rudy Giuliani having supporters in drag makes him a cross-dresser. Oh wait...

Think for yourselves, I'm afraid if we relied on Mr. Malcom to think for us we would all be frothing invalids.

Let me give you a hint:

The favorite tactic of these scumbag intelligentsia types
is to make you think you are on the "lunatic fringe".

I'm happy to be on "the fringe" with the likes of Dr. Paul Craig Roberts, former head of the Treasury under Ronald Regan, former associate editor of the Wall Street Journal.

Remember it is never wrong to simply question things, don't let a yellow journalist shame you out of your god-given curiosity. The universe bends for justice, but people generally bend the other way.

Research it.

I am 66 and have been a Republican since 1976. I am tired of our big government and waste. We don't have to agree with Ron Paul 100%. My family is voting for RP and there are a lot of people like us!

Let see what candidate people are interested in by checking google trends:

Rudy, Hillary, Fred, Barrack, Romney vs Dr Paul:
http://www.google.com/trends?q=rudy+giuliani%2C+romney%2C+hillary+clinton%2C+obama%2C+ron+paul%2C+fred+thompson&ctab=0&geo=all&date=mtd&sort=0

LOL "But although Paul languishes in single digits in most polls"

The "polls" are irrelevant and laughably inaccurate.

Clarence I concur, there are many questions concerning 9/11 that haven't been answered (And there are answers) I guess after seeing so many jaded articles I lost the context of what this writers meanings were. The high points seem straightforward. As a writer why not just say that Ron Paul has a near perfect voting record in the Congress and is a latter day statesman. That about does it.
Dr Ron Paul in 2008

It's amazing to me that Ron Paul seems to be the only major candidate taking heat because of who his supporters are.

For some reason, the media keeps trying to sell this fallacy that "If A supports B, then B = A."

It's ridiculous. A ninth-grade critical thinking class should have taught you about fallacies.

But, since you're analyzing Paul's support, who does La Raza support for President of the U.S.? Who are the Black Muslims voting for? Who are the Ziono-fascists voting for?

Let's see some balanced coverage. You know, journalism.

Ron Paul has nothing to do with the 9/11 "truth" movement.

Ron Paul, is the only candidate that makes me believe in something that we all seem to have forgotten, FREEDOM!. I switched to Republican party, not for the party, but for what, Ron Paul stands for. The principles outweigh which party you(we) pick, cause in the end it these very things that only matter. Ron Paul 2008, it's not to Late. RonPaul2008.com, join the R"evoL"ution.

We made this YouTube spoof on the current state of Ron Paul spammers, I mean supporters
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMyz67ji98o

"non-traditional ideas? when did tradition start, seven years ago?"

-Good one!

Andrew--

Your "scripted joke" comment is either uninformed or just weird.

Alone among the Republican candidates at the debates, Ron Paul doesn't joke around.

When ever I do see press given to Ron Paul it is of the sort above; slanted, with a dash of contempt for his supporters. I have yet to figure out why. I think it may be that his views do not fit in neatly with what passes for the Dem or GOP party line today, and that he is a threat to their anointed candidates.

You have 2 first names as well. Smart ass

Mr. Malcolm,

Thank you for your article. I caught wind of Dr. Paul during the first couple of debates and sought out information about him online. At 24 years old, this is my first time getting active in supporting a presidential candidate and it's amazing to me how slanted I'm finding most of the media to be. Thank you for not "towing the line" like the rest of the media.

Trevor

Lying is not reporting ! You lied:

"He's suggested that the U.S. caused the 9/11 attacks by its bombing of Iraq"

He never said that !

Readers’ comments here have done a good job in setting Andrew Malcolm straight on his errors of fact. About the only thing that’s not agreed upon is whether these errors are due to ignorance or opinion. Most have been generous in deferring to the former but I judge this a barely disguised hit piece due to the inexcusable level of shoddy research that underlies it.

There’s no need for me to repeat all the errors of fact uncovered in this article, but the one that sticks out for me as deluded is the claim that Ron Paul’s ideas are “non-traditional”. It is also indicative of just how far the MSM has drifted off from the nation’s founding principles, which is Ron Paul’s ultimate reminder for us all. It really is time that they lifted their game or continue to lose relevance and purpose for the people they claim to serve.

I find the mentioning of us incurring the wrath of the Middle East on 9-11 due to our bombing them and the tag line to 9-11 conspiracies to be contradictory since the mass majority of people that believe our government was implicitly involved in carrying out the acts of aggression against the people of the United States on 9-11 would not think that the middle east had anything to do with those events.

And just so you know people who have not seen “In Plane Site” and understand that those were military planes not commercial jets that hit the towers are now in the minority. So the idea of linking anybody to a conspiracy to discredit them is now pointless. The only people that are being linked to the conspiracy now are the ones that carried it out.

Impeach now before we let him carry out another false flag event and force us into another fake war for control of oil.

I can't vote in your elections and don't normally vote in here in New Zealand because I don't trust politicians.

A few months ago I heard about Ron Paul, read some articles and watched clips on youtube.

Ron Paul comes across as the US Presidential pre-candidate with the most integrity. He is intelligent and articulate. He appears to have a grasp of world affairs. One gets the impression that he means what he says.

I would be quite happy to see Ron Paul as leader of the free world, but sadly expect that he will end up in a body bag before there is any prospect of him getting into the White House. There is far too much money being made from war to allow some old constitutionalist to shut down the printing press.

Comment on the article: it was slanted against Paul, but not as badly as some.

He never said the american people caused the attacks. He said 50 years of intervention in Middle eastern affiars did. You really think we can invade another country, decimate thier infrastructure, impose sanctions on them that starve half a million children to death, and then bomb them 1650 times while they are under those sanctions, and not expect someone to get angry about it? Grow up.

And tell me, Since when did following the constitution become "non-traditional".

Ron Paul is the only conservative in the race, and the only intellectually honest person in the race. Period.

Don't like what he has to say? Tough, the truth can be a pain in the butt.

He told us in 2002 that the Iraq war would turn out badly, it has.

He warned the war would be used to strip our liberties away, it did.

He told us that the war would be incredibly expensive, it is.

He told us that the FED was making interest Rates artificailly low, they are.

He warned that the dollar would loose strength, it is.

How many more times are people going to ignore this man? Whats it going to take? Do you Have to be liscensed for everything you do? Does Oil have to shoot up to 150 dollars a barrel? Does your buying power have to be completely destroyed before you finally figure out that there was a guy that cared, and could do something about it?

this article was exposure, so thanks, but jeez. I hope you're so negative will all the candidates you cover. Get over it. Ron Paul is AWESOME and just wait til this november 5th. Don't know what i'm talking about? thisnovember5th dot com.

I saw Ron on the Bill Maher show and he did excellent - the crowd went wild - I expect the same thing tonight on Leno

I know a Neocon when I read his article and boys....! This guy is a Noecon!

Boycot this newspaper, with so little circleation as they now have this should sink this two bit Blog!

The Baltimoresun.com is a very poor blog!

great article! i will be watching leno tonight!!!

I do not agree with your article but thank you for writing it anyway. Ron Paul has my vote and support. He is the only Republican Candidate running for President that has pledged to bring our troops home asap. He is for smaller government, and he believes in our Constitution. MSM should really do some research before they write articles about this great man. He never blamed the 9/11 attacks on us, what he did do was blame our foreign policies. We need to stop policing the world and start taking care of our Country before it is too late.

Tess, California

Wow...A few thousand? He has 60,000 in his meet up groups alone and they started on-line.

You've painted Ron Paul as most of the media does...A conspiracy nut blaming America for 9/11.

Your IQ is below average and this hit piece on our next President is trash!

Ron Paul 2008!

Andrew -

Your conspiracy supporter comment at the end shows your bias. Objective reporting is rare and jabs on Ron Paul are common by media that’s trying hard to diminish him and his supporters. To the collective smear media campaign I can only think of the wise saying, “ first they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you and then you win”. I have not voted before, and as this type of media bias goes on, it just gives me the energy to get out there and vote with all my family and friends I can influence. It will be my first, whether his name is on the GOP ballot or not. RON PAUL. 2008

You're entitled to a little "blowback" yourself not really getting Ron's truth about 911 try this http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4196210451862978290&q=ron+paul+rudy&total=1208&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=2
Otherwise I liked your article.

"He's suggested that the U.S. caused the 9/11 attacks by its bombing of Iraq"

Absolute garbage. Now might be a good time to find another vocation.

Dr. Paul cured my hopelessness.
If you haven't cared in the past, what youv'e been waiting for is here at last...
Listen, don't laugh Ron Paul

I hope Ron Paul does well on the Tonight Show. He is a funny guy in person.

This blog is a scripted joke.

You said Paul "suggested that the U.S. caused the 9/11 attacks by its bombing of Iraq". Do you know how manipulative and misleading is that statement? Paul actually said our policies can create negative reactions. He said that, if we don't understand who we are dealing with and how are actions are interpreted, then we can't have a successful program of diplomacy. Don't be a jerk Andrew.

GO RON PAUL! GO RON PAUL! GOD BLESS RON PAUL!

"Freedom is not defined by safety. Freedom is defined by the ability of citizens to live without government interference. Government cannot create a world without risks, nor would we really wish to live in such a fictional place. Only a totalitarian society would even claim absolute safety as a worthy ideal, because it would require total state control over its citizens’ lives. Liberty has meaning only if we still believe in it when terrible things happen and a false government security blanket beckons." ~Ron Paul, Security and Liberty 04/25/2007

“It does not take a majority to prevail … but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men.” - Samuel Adams

Grass Roots! RON PAUL 2008
You watch, this country is waking up! What do they say about waking a sleeping giant...!

Hi Andrew,

Addressing this quote:
"As we've noted before, NBC's Tonight Show with Jay Leno has become a required stop for candidates to show a more human side to potential American voters "

An apt observation. The best part is it highlights exactly why Ron Paul is not just wildly popular, but actually, literally beloved by tens of thousands of people (and counting): he doesn't have to go out of his way to try to "show a human side." Because unlike almost any other candidate
- he actually IS human. Or more accurately, his humanity permeates, and is the source of, his every action and word. He genuinely loves the unique bastion of personal Liberty that America was intended to become, and wants the best for all people. This in contrast to the crowded field of cynical phonies vying to make the most convincing mockery of sincerity, while 100% motivated by their own self-interested psychological drive for power because "that's how the game is played". Do some research on the Council on Foreign Relations. Learn about the Bilderberg Group. Watch "Money As Debt." on youtube Watch "America: Freedom to Fascism". You will come to understand why the people love Ron Paul. He's one of us, and he's for real. And he appears, from here, to be our last hope.

It's goofy misleading articles like this written by goofballs like this which tend to send American Citizens straight to the Ron Paul website to investigate for themselves.....so thanks....for the publicity.

Thanks for the sarcasm-laden writeup, Malcolm. Your handlers at the CrayoLA Times must be very proud; here, you earned the orange one today, try to stay more between the lines...

How much traffic did you get?

Very deviously written article. You can see the author has the facts but deliberately and very cleverly writes it up with a negative slant. As for 'non-traditional': perhaps the author thinks of 'traditional' as being stuff from the 1970's and 1980's. LOL

Dr. Paul has never suggested that the "U.S. caused the 9/11 attacks by its bombing of Iraq." What he has said, is that U.S. foreign policy was a contributing factor for the terrorists actions. It's a principle called blowback.
How would we feel if we had foreign troops bombing, and occupying Canada?

I'm 62 and have been a republican my whole life - a very deceived one at that. Ron Paul gives me hope. Praise God! Bill

This article was obviously written to be inflammatory and to score as many hits as possible.

Andrew Malcolm calling Ron Paul a 'scripted joke'. Now that's irony.

Ron Paul 08. Thank you!

Wow, I hope this guy is reading all of these comments! I hope HIS BOSS is reading all of these comments!! Click my link for a good YouTube video of Rudy G.

Ron Paul 08!!!!

The ONLY serious choice for america

"He's suggested that the U.S. caused the 9/11 attacks by its bombing of Iraq..."

That's such an unfair characterization of Ron Paul's position. Andrew obviously knew he was being dishonest when he wrote it. There's no way I believe that he's this dense that he can't understand Ron's true position.

Right on! Paul's supporters are passionate; this is true. There is a reason; they believe the Constitution hangs by a thread; which it does.

Let us pray for America. I am telling you, there is something out there; the Spirit of The Lord is brooding over the hearts of Americans awakening them to a sense of urgency.

the foil is in the kitchen
wrap it on your head and watch "911 the birth of treason" google it

Why are people afraid of Ron Paul? Why are people afraid of having a candidate that speaks the truth? Have we become so numb to dishonest politicians that we now think there is no hope? There is hope and his name is RON PAUL!

This journalist’s thinly veiled criticisms of Ron Paul aren’t even correct.

"He's suggested that the U.S. caused the 9/11 attacks by its bombing of Iraq, which drew barbs from other Republicans, mainly national GOP front-runner Rudy Giuliani."

The author of this article obviously chose to paraphrase Ron Paul on the statement above. Ron Paul has said our foreign policies in the middle east over the years were a major cause for 9/11. Our own intelligence has mentioned the "blow back" from our foreign policies. Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate offering change from big business politics.

I'm not a Paultard by far, but this kind of hackneyed journalism is why newspapers are dropping in circulation and its readership isn't migrating to the net to read you. If we want opionated b.s. we'll check out entertainers like little green footballs.

I guess all those stories about Ron Paul spammers and botnets are full of it. It appears that from the responses here that this guy is really catching on. Its refreshing to see this kind of grass roots thing in action. Let it grow

Man, is this journalist a paid hack or what. Talk about a completely opinionated article with more falacies than a room full of liars. What a disgrace Baltimore Sun. You should be ashamed!

Ron Paul is so honest I have to pinch myself that we might actually get someone in the WH who is not OWNED BY A CORPORATION. Save our country!
Ron Paul 2008

Was this just published ONLINE or in actual print?

Online, Ron Paul is the frontrunner by a landslide, so in that context this article is such a delusional hit piece it is hilarious...

But in the "real world" where Seniors have nothing to do but vote and still answer landlines to talk with telemarketers and poll takers, Paul lacks name recognition.

The millions he is raking in should raise name recognition among older voters who don't use the net.

The FACTS are 70+% of Americans want out of IRAQ NOW. Paul is the ONLY TOP TIER candidate who will actually honor the will of the people...so do the math.

RON PAUL rEVOLution.. its coming, 2008

I can't decide whether the writer is terribly uninformed, or whether this is supposed to be some kind of disguised hit piece. Either way, it's no wonder the MSM is dying.

Smell the FEAR in every hit piece and sliming like this one, though this is milder than the "Paul must be a Nazi, David Duke likes him" garbage from the usual neocon suspects.

I like it-- means the liberal establishment that dreads having to deal with a candidate such as Paul is panicking.

Whatever happened to politics as usual, with the Fortune 500 set and the Israel Lobby jerking the voters' strings, and the parade of phony "left wingers" such as Hillary and RINO "right wingers" to lose to her being trundled out for your delectation?

Oh my God, the People have busted loose-- they're turning to a man who actually knows his history, reveres the foreign policy principles of the Founding Fathers and upholds the Constitution!

Whatever next, accountable government and a media that reports instead of brainwashing?

Yes, the 9/11 attacks were horrible and unjustified. But going to Iraq after that and stirring up a hornet's nest is not doing any good. We can try to stop individual terrorists in their own homeland and get trapped in a quagmire, OR we can actually try to defend our own borders!!! We need to stop giving so much military aid to all these countries, and worry about ourselves. No, this is NOT isolationism...it's non-interventionist!

Definitely slanted article, but as they say: "Print what you want but be sure to spell the name right." That is, your clearly biased article may at least make people aware of Ron Paul, and then they can check his views for themselves on YouTube without the media filter.

So, thanks.

This is just GREAT!Too bad we can't Digg this. Malcolm, get with the program, and pass this American movement into MSM for the sake of the US and for the Majority of the Heartland.Over 24 hours and the post is still alive with Ron Paul Supporters!!!

Thanks to Jay for having Dr/Congressman Ron Paul on last night,THANKS JAY!!!Unfortunately,Dr.Paul is the ONLY TRUE STATESMAN in DC.He actually reads EVERY bill before he votes on it.Go figure!A man that even our Founders would be proud of.ALL the rest of em are only used car salesmen.Opps, sorry,I didn't mean to belittle used car salesmen....but I have had it really broken off in me by the likes of that bunch,as has this once great country by the likes of past politicians.
"Ploitics=many bloodsuckers"
Ron Paul IS the REAL DEAL!!!HE stands for what made this country GREAT in the first place. That is the reason we need him at the top of the US food chain. So he can clean out the rotten garbage in the pantry.May God smile on Dr.Paul in 08!!!!!!!!

Ron Paul was GREAT on the tonight show and to hear Johnny Rotten call his name was just surreal, Hey in regards to this article way to totally take Ron Paul's quotes out of context,..
Ron Paul for President!!!!!!!!

Idaho supports Dr. Ron Paul

Thanks and God Bless you, Jay Leno!

Jay was courteous and gracious with Dr. Paul - he asked questions and let Dr. Paul answer them. I thought Dr. Paul really rocked.

Ron Paul has it right when he speaks about the abolishment of the Federal Reserve Bank. It is a scam and a financial parasite to all Americans. He is the only candidate that is bold enough to stand for all Americans.

Thank you!
This article has proved to me what I was skeptical about before, mainstream media is trying to degrade to progress of Dr. Paul.

Good Job :D Ron Paul !2008

Consider me officially 'magnify(ing) the impact of Paul's rare national TV appearance'!

Thanks for the nice article on Ron Paul!!

Wow Andy, you sure got your finger on the pulse of the Nation there don't ya? Hahaha!

Ps. You're a parasitic maggot.

Once again, I am baffled by the mis-quoting of Dr. Ron Paul.

Well, we've pretty much debunked every line of this article... Nice "Hit Piece" in disguise.

In the words of the poet "Something is happening here, and you don't know what it is, do you Mr Malcolm!"

It's hard for mainstream media to understand what's going on with Ron Paul, because he isn't running in the traditional way: lots of money from establishment sources like corporations and masters of industry.

Instead, Ron Paul gets 78% of his monetary support with small donations from individuals: the definition of democracy.

Mainstream media count on voter apathy and low turnout from the masses to elect their upperclass, stupendously rich candidate. These politicians then serve (surprise) the people who donated to them.

While the Baltimore Sun is a part of mainstream media, this piece was not as much of a thinly veiled attack as others. The only thing I would note is that the writer sought to discredit his campaign with the line about 9-11 conspiracy theorists. That kind of line would -never- be in an article about other candidates that toe the Republican/Democratic line.

Ron Paul is the only candidate who means what he says and doesn't just try to pander to voters. This was a very biased article and should not be considered news.

Ron Paul did NOT say 9/11 was caused by us bombing Iraq, simply reported what the 9/11 commission report, CIA and the Osama Bin LAdin said the reason for the attacks were.

Our occupation of Arab land and Foreing policy. These ARE the reasons that have been given and proven for over 30 years of Terrorist ATtacks.

Stop skewing the truth! That is not what Dr. Paul said. You need to take Rudy's recomended reading list.

This guy should save the editorializing and just report! I am so tired of hearing opinions in the news. I am also tired of hearing skewed facts like Ron Paul is languishing in polls! Which ones!?!?! He has won more than any other candidate even the polls on CNN and FOX! Keep being afraid of the RON PAUL supporters because we have good memories and will remember your lack of support for AMERICA!

I don't see a single post agreeing with the article, every one if them is in favor of RP. Explain to me, why do NO OTHER CANDIDATES create such enthusiasm? What is stopping them? Nothing.

"a few million Americans who've never heard of the man with two first names . . ."

Why would you waste electrons with empty quips like that? You have the tenor of someone drumming up vanity-page-views by mentioning "Ron Paul".

Funny thing is, it works. ;)

Ron Paul. The last hope for America. The next party, when the Republicans and Democrats merge will be the American NSDAP.

This piece was purposely and unnecessarily disparaging. The author needs to do a serious review of his "facts."

worst article ive ever read. looking back on this makes the establishment's fear INCREDIBLY more obvious.

pardon me while i vomit.
