Joe Biden, whose fundraising has been anemic, announced this afternoon his campaign has taken the first step in the process to gain public funding for his campaign -- a route John Edwards has already taken. Biden's campaign said it will make the final decision later this month.
And like Edwards, the Biden tried campaign tried to make it sound like a good thing -- and well it could be if it means more cash to press on.
"The ground is beginning to move in Iowa and the other early states as poll numbers continue to show movement and endorsements continue to pile up," said Luis Navarro, Biden's campaign manager. "And we are taking every step to ensure that we will have the necessary resources to compete in Iowa and the other early states."
Mind you, this comes less than two months before the Iowa caucuses and the ground needs to move an awful lot for the senator from Delaware to land the job he's dreamed of for years. More money can't hurt, but ...

Joe Biden had the best line so far from any of the debates on both sides of the isle:
"Rudy Giuliani has to be the most unqualified person who is running for President right now. He's a noun and a verb and 9/11".
