Almost everyone agrees that Sen. Hillary Clinton didn't do her best at last week's Democratic debate, including the candidate herself. In the days that followed, her opponents pilloried her, complaining that she is dishonest and won't level with the American people about what she really thinks on a range of topics.
No doubt, it's been a bad week of press, but the latest USA Today/Gallup poll says it hasn't hurt her. The poll, taken Nov. 2-4, shows Clinton's standing unchanged nationally with 50 percent of the vote. Sen. Barack Obama is at 22 percent, and former Sen. John Edwards has 15 percent.
Among Democrats, Clinton also has the highest favorable ratings at 84 percent. Obama gets a 70 percent favorability rating and Edwards is at 64 percent, according to Gallup.
Meanwhile, a new CNN/Opinion Research poll puts Clinton at 44 percent nationally, still far ahead of her opponents, but with a slight drop. Obama receives 25 percent of the support of those surveyed and Edwards is at 14 percent.
Last month, the CNN poll had Clinton at 50 percent, running 30 points ahead of Obama.
Of course, the national polls don't reflect the tightness of the race in Iowa, which will help determine the ultimate outcome of the primary fight.

Hey, does Guiliani get a case of Pat Robertson's miracle drink along with the endorsement? We need a candidate who can leg press 2000 lbs!

Clinton's numbers are not surprising. The more America is exposed to Obama, the less they like his smug smirk and empty head. The Obama charade is almost over.

Clinton has much higher negative ratings in Iowa than any other state, because Bill never campaigned there.
An Obama or Edwards victory in Iowa would take so much of the wind out of her sails. These national polls are so meaningless.

I cannot get over how Hillary is #1 for the Democrats. She is an awful person, she's never answered a question, and she is not even a likeable person. She really comes off as a robot, she will change her dialect and position to fit whatever group she is sqwaking to. She is not a real person like Obama or Edwards. I actually hope she is the candidate for you guys, the Republicans should be able to walk right into the White House against her, I don't care what any mainstream media poll says.

"but the latest USA Today/Gallup poll says it hasn't hurt her".
I don't believe it. "Influence" can get you a poll that will say anything you want. Polls can be constructed to yield any result you want.
Articles like this tend to herd voters like cattle.
"I guess I'll go along. They must know" is the reasoning.
I dont like being talked down to like this. I will make up my own mind based on what I feel is important, thank you.

Let's see ... Hillary has run a top notch campaign until one
little mistake in one of many debates and we democrats abandon her. Shame on you. Give the candidate credit. She has done a good job in being a good example of someone who could represent us as the first female president. I am a male and I am impressed!

Clinton supports the escalation of the war in Iraq, dropped universal health care as an issue and was a coward in her personal life. What does she have to offer?

Every poll except CNN has Clinton retaining the same lead prior to the Debate. Infant, some have shown her ticking up.
CLINTON is the smartest most competent candidate we have. Regarding Edward's he was a one term senator who could not even win reelection in his own state. He was of know help when he was on the ticket with Gore. He is an aggressive bully and quite dishonest. His constant attack about Clinton taking money from special interest is a false issue. What he fails to say is so does he. He has gotten millions from the Hedge Fund industry and the American Bar Association. He is desperate and it does not help our party by making personal attacks. It is fine to distinguish his positions from his opponents and present new ideas. All he does is criticize and has nothing positive to add.
OBHAMA is a FRAUD he has failed to vote over 25% of the time. Compared to Clinton who has missed less than 10% of the votes. The Iran vote that he attacks Clinton for is a false argument. He was 1 of 2 senators that DID NOT VOTE ON THE IRAN VOTE! The other senator was in the hospital. In addition his attack about Clintons refusal to release her records from the Clinton Library is not true. However, more importantly OBHAMA refuses to release any of his records while he was a state senator including his voting record (Which I have been told shows he voted even less then he is now and failed to vote on any controversial issue) Moreover, Obhama refuses to give the names of his pact contributers and there are a lot. Clinton has realsed all this information.
As far as Drivers licenses OBHAMA and Edward's are for giving them out without any restriction. Clinton feels we need to know who is in our country and would provide a different license and you are required to show a valid passport. to get this License. The license she supports allows undocumented people to drive on the roads (which they do anyway) however the license-requires the driver to obtain auto insurance and the Drivers license cannot be used for any other purpose such as obtaining credit or getting on an airplane it grants no LEGAL STATUS and protects all the other drivers on the road by requiring that this Licence requires auto insurance. in addition it allows the State to identify who is in there state illegally. Presently, 6 other states have such a drivers license and many other sates are considering giving out this type of Drivers license. .

I've listened to both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama speak several times. And I definetly think that Barack Obama is the better candidate.
Go Obama in '08!

The candidates who attacked Clinton appeared to be desperate, immature, and throwing personal attacks that are not needed in the democratic debates. I am glad to say that I support Hillary Clinton even more than I had before the recent debate in Pennsylvania. I am a male and independt who says GO HILLARY! :)

Obama needs no script, no rehearsed gestures and answers. He speaks from his heart and he answers the tough questions honestly and sponateously.
He does not change his views to fit his audience and waffle about in general statements without specifity. He is gaining ground and his supporters
are unwavering. Millions of us are never polled because we are not considered likely voters. Look at the real indicators that can`t be manipulated by small samples ie...Record crowds wherever he speaks, record, small, donations from individuals, and significant endorsements, almost everyday. Barack Obama doesn`t need the old political machine and media spin. Barack Obama doesn`t owe any special interest groups any favors. He will win this contest by attracting the mainstream within various groups. Whether you are Republican, a Democrat or an Independent
Barack Obama has policies and answers that are sound.
Whatever color, gender, orientation, faith ( or lack of it) Barack Obama will see that all Americans are treated fairly under the law. He seeks clarity while others muddle their answers with vague ambiguities. Even though they are a weak indicator, the polls are slowly narrowing and they will continue to do so until the first votes are cast. Watch and see !

It's amusing to me to see that the candidate who's not throwing negative attacks at anyone within her own party is Hillary Clinton. At the beginning of this year, I completely thought it would be quite the opposite- with Barack Obama sticking to his message of peace and a new kind of politics. Until this past month, I would have thrown my support to either Clinton or Obama. However, the fact that Senator Obama criticizes Hillary on a vote he failed to attend has thrown him into the same pig pen as our beloved President. At this time, I sincerely hope Hillary Clinton is our nominee, or I might be forced to throw my vote to a different party.

Strange that you did not report the fact that 44 percent of those polled said they definitely would NOT vote for Hillary, versus only 32 percent who said they definitely would vote for her. (Source: Gallup poll 7 Nov). So, if only 32 pct. say they will vote for her, how does she get to 50 percent? Obviously, they threw in a bunch of undecideds. Voodoo mathematics.

Hillary is way ahead for a reason – she is the smartest candidate with the strength and experience needed to restore our country. While her last debate performance may not have been her best, she was still better than Obama, who shrinks in stature anytime he occupies a podium next to her. And Edwards, at this point, is just plain desperate.
And how about the empty “electibility” argument – three polls released within the last few days (CNN,Gallup and Marist) ALL show Hillary beating Rudy in the general election.

In boxing the challenger has to take the belt from the champ. As of now Hillary (the champ)is winning on points and short of a knock-out will be the primary winner. Obama can't deliver that punch because its not in him. He doesn't have a chance.

This country is comprised mostly of morons, but even the moron will realize that Hillary is the only candidate that has the intelligence and experience to solve the crisis in the Middle East as well as the global environmental crisis.

The USA Today/Gallup poll used for the article above also polled for the GOP race.
Which the Swamp reporter didn't mention. After all, the Swamp, which claims to cover politics, in reality is written by Democrats to be read by Democrats.
The link the Swamp doesn't give is at http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2007-11-06-poll_N.htm
and the article is headlined "Giuliani, Clinton maintain double digit leads".
Since the Swamp tries to hide the GOP results, once again I'll give them: Giuliani 34%, McCain 18%, Thompson 17%, Romney 14%, rest in single digits.

Actually Obama has closed the gap significantly in both Iowa and NH in two recent polls. That's why Hillary and her supporters are having such conniptions. Just look at Leslie Militzok's post in this thread. Get a grip! Obama is closing but your girl still has a chance if she can get it together and find a message for her campaign. The "experience" thing isn't working out so well as more and more folks are realizing that experience ain't worth a lick if it doesn't inform good judgment. And how exactly did Hillary's experience inform the most important judgment she's made as a Senator? That's just one of many questions we can't seem to get a straight answer on.
At least we know how the National Intelligence Estimate informed her decision to support Bush's blank check for war. It didn't! She didn't even read it, though she nevertheless pushed false Bush intelligence on Iraqi WMD and al Queda links, just like she ratified the Bush intelligence in the Kyl-Lieberman resolution without there being congressional hearings on the veracity of the claims.

It's shocking to hear people who actually believe that Obama is different from other polticians- He has been formed by Axelrod using the same "authentic" technique that he used for the MA governor, Deval Patrick (who since in office has made major, major rookie mistakes) Also on his payroll and one of his main spokespersons is a guy named Gibbs who Osama bin Ladened Howard Dean, one of the most abusive of campaign attacks in history- This is an Obama team member- He has writers- he has big money guiding him-now they're making him throw personal attacks at Hillary Clinton- LEt's get a grip -they are all politicians-some are better informed and have more experience than others- that's why Clinton is ahead-she's the candidate of change- change through experience.

I'm a liberal through and through... but I can't vote for Hillary. I don't trust her; I don't like her; I just can't vote for her. I'll vote for Guiliani over her for sure. His bad out weighs his good- but we know who he is. After what we've been through with Bush, I just want someone I can trust. That is not Hillary. If she can't get my vote, she doesn’t stand a chance in a general election!

Hillary Rodham Clinton is far and away the best candidate the Democrats have. She's got it all. We support her with great enthusiasm.

Jeremy before you cast aspirations on people that opinion differs from yours do some research. I noticed you were unable to put forth facts that support your conclusions.
Regarding the document you are singling out Clinton not reading (which is true) However, you failed to mention that 98 Senators did not read that document. All of the Senators spent enormous time being briefed, attending hearings and reading voluminous documents. I think going to war in Iraq was a terrible mistake. However, it is Bush's war not Clintons! The only mistake Clinton made in her vote was believing this administration was providing truthful intelligence. In addition Bush was suppose to use diplomacy and get UN approval before even considering war. It is not Clinton's fault that Bush is a liar and a lunatic.
Obhama does not even perform the job he was hired for namely to vote! He missed the Iran vote . He did not even vote on the Move ON.Org resolution . When that vote came up he was present in the room but ran out because he did not know what was the politically correct vote. He has missed more than 25% of votes since he has been senator. His record as a state Senator is even worse. Obhama is not any different than any politician except he lacks the courage to vote on even the most trivial issues because he is not sure what is politically viable if this is someone you think should be running the country then you have a very low standard as to competence and conviction .

I'm an Iowa Dem for Hillary, and other candidates making fools out of themselves by ganging up on her isn't going to change that... It's helping her here in Iowa.
Posted by: Gary | November 7, 2007 11:17 PM
Why talk so much about the national polls? They don't matter much at this stage. The only reason they matter at all at this point is because the main stream media keeps talking about it. Why would you want to continue to negatively influence the outcome of this primary?
May I suggest that you turn your final sentence into the focus of your next article:
Of course, the national polls don't reflect the tightness of the race in Iowa, which will help determine the ultimate outcome of the primary fight.
Then we have fiction writers like Leslie Militzok. I'm not sure what a "pact contributer" is but Barack Obama refuses donations from registered federal lobbyists and political-action committees (PACs). As a result, unlike Clinton, Barack will only have to answer to the people.
