Obama's shots go on, a surprise for Clinton on 'SNL': The Swamp

The Swamp

by John McCormick

Sen. Barack Obama went into Sen. Hillary Clinton's backyard Saturday night to continue his day-long criticism of Clinton and her former president husband.

Appearing in the opening sketch of Saturday Night Live, Obama joined impersonators Amy Poehler and Darrell Hammond who were portraying the former first couple, as they often do.

The bit featured the Clintons hosting a Halloween party, with a series of faux Democratic candidates showing up in costume -- including a Mike Gravel in a straitjacket -- when near the end, a man walked in wearing an Obama mask. The Illinois Democrat then removed the mask to reveal that he was indeed Obama.

“Well, you know, Hillary, I have nothing to hide. I enjoy being myself,” Obama said. "I'm not going to change who I am just because it is Halloween."

"Well, that's, that's great,'' the Hillary Clinton replied with a grimace.

"And may I say, you make a lovely bride,'' Obama told her.

"She's a witch,'' the Bill Clinton replied.

Earlier Saturday, in South Carolina and in an interview with the Tribune, Obama had suggested that with Clinton at the top of the Democratic ticket the party would likely be only "barely" able to win a national election. He had also taken a subtle swipe at former President Bill Clinton by listing problems that "existed long before George Bush took office."

But Saturday night, it was all for laughs. A Bill Richardson standin came on stage on SNL ''dressed'' as Al Gore -- wearing a medal around his neck and holding an Oscar trophy. He was auditioning, it seemed, for vice president.

Obama wrapped up his brief appearance with the show's signature starting line: "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night."

What's the matter the flag pin's not good enough for Mr wonderful, and now Halloween (an American past time) isn't good enough for MR Wonderful..

What a party pooper...going as himself..he's like 46 going on 97..

Obama on a comedy show, playing himself.

Anybody want to draw parallels between this and his campaign?

Watch it, Barack. You don't want to go too far against the testosterone half of the Hillary/Bill duo. Look closely at their legacy in the White House that the Republicans are going to have fun with, and not just on SNL. This information was compiled by The Progressive Review:

- The only president ever impeached on grounds of personal malfeasance
- Most number of convictions and guilty pleas by friends and associates*
- Most number of cabinet officials to come under criminal investigation
- Most number of witnesses to flee country or refuse to testify
- Most number of witnesses to die suddenly
- First president sued for sexual harassment.
- First president accused of rape.
- First first lady to come under criminal investigation
- Largest criminal plea agreement in an illegal campaign contribution case
- First president to establish a legal defense fund.
- First president to be held in contempt of court
- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions
- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions from abroad
- First president disbarred from the US Supreme Court and a state court

Granted Bill/Hillary were hounded by police inspector Javert, oops I mean Ken Starr, they were neverthless incapable of not stepping in deep doo doo on a daily basis. Americans should be fearful of going through this soap opera again.

Oh, that explains what CNN has reported that he missed 80% of the Senate vote, he is very busy with other things.

The mask fit well..........

Obama on SNL!! Obama never needed a mask. Bush, Obama, Myakka and a Monkey the all look alike. On Iraq and Iran Bush is one extreme (no diplomacy but war) and Obama is on the other extreme (no war but Hugs and kisses to Iranian rearends).

Please, all Obama supporters, urge Obama first to improve his senate voting records and urge him to vote on issues, own it, then let him claim what he stands for on the issues. He has highest non voting record in the senate but yet he claims ownership for the issues he never voted for or was not the senator at the time (like the one on Iran). Before you dig more dirt on other candidates, please clean up the mess or his poor voting record. Then only he is qualified to argue against other candidates. Again Please, Obama first vote, take ownership and then argue or debate.

Obama cannot fool all the voters all the time. To get elected he has to fool only 23% of voters. Only 45% of America votes. So 23 % are GOP and 22% are DEM. There are only 3% who reasonably debate. In total 97% are dumb who expect and understand only a "yes" or a "no" answer or standing on every issue that all debate moderators, talk show hosts, and self proclaimed pundits( the barking dogs who can never bite any one but make lot of money as that 97% ass holes watch them) ask the politicians. Only 3% appreciate the complexities of issues like Immigration, Social security, Health care and war on Iraq. But media and blogs cannot make money on these 3% m but on 97% of dumb fools.
So in essence you have to fool only 23% of voters to get elected and to sleep in the while house. That is still 77% can hate. 50% haters is too narrow and with more room for another 23%.
America is only about money, Dollar is the religion and is the only God, And loosing a dollar in America is the biggest crime. This is the only principle. Politicians are no exceptions to this. So is Obama who claims to have principles (perhaps not for senate voting). A politician can never be principled.

If any of the dems want to beat hilary they need to point out an important fact. a vote for hil is not a voe for hil, i wish that was my line but it isn't heck out this commentary
http://joeleonardi.wordpress.com/2007/10/28/how-to-halt-hillary/

Am I the only democrat who wishes Obama spent as much time criticizing and taking cheap shots at George W. Bush as he does at Hillary Clinton. He seems to me to be a bit out of control, consumed by his own "drive to win" and willing to wound his own party for his own political gain. While I once favored him as a candidate, he has proven himself incapable of running on a positive, constructive platform that strenghtens the party and not just his own ambitions. It's fine, of course, to disagree with Clinton on policy, but to gleefully imply she's a witch...Well, I know Karl Rove is laughing.

Obama's latest thing is portraying the Clintons (and let me hasten to say that I don't like them either) as part of a corrupt establishment, while, he, Obama is part of a squeaky clean new day.

The same Obama who supported Todd Stroger for Cook County
Board President, worked happily in the uber-corrupt
Illinois State Senate under the tutelage of Emil Jones,
and played real estate mogul in the company of
now-indicted Tony Rezko.

Yeah, right, squeaky clean.

Americans are so, so gullible.

Wow...I can tell by the comments that the Republican are getting REAL scared that Obama is going up in the polls.

This was great! Barack is so honest and comfortable with himself he can pull this off. All the Clinton supporters are jealous their little robot isn't programmed to be honest and straightforward.

Who is more honest: Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama?

Obviously Tribune readers don't get humor. Another reason why I've never paid for this publication despite while living in Chicago.

I'm shocked! You mean to tell me that in a newspaper that endorsed our current Disaster in Chief, twice mind you, there's someone here who doesn't like Obama? Who would have thunk it? And as a bonus we even had a throw-back to Bill Clinton to boot. Watching Republicans twist in the wind has become the world's greatest pastime. Thank you one and all for providing such great entertainment for, now polling at around 72%, the rest of us.

Rev. Wm Hayashi

Amazed: No, it's not Republicans coming over here, scared, it's Hillary's paid staffers from her war room..she's so scared..We Obama supporters come out--unpaid--because we're proud to support Senator Obama who has the decency to speak about what's right and not just about what's politically convenient.

As a conservative independent who disagrees with Sens. Clinton and Obama on a number of policy issues, I just want to say that this whole "Obama misses votes" story is such an obvious red herring that those who employ it look pathetic. Every senator misses votes---lots of them---because in most votes, the tally is so lopsided that one vote won't matter. And with the demands of a Presidential campaign, the number of missed votes goes up significantly every four years. But so what? Does it make a difference in the life of Mr. and Mrs. Doe? Not a bit. Not that Senator Clinton's supporters want advice from a conservative, but it seems to me that her best strategy would be to stop attacking those Dem candidates nipping at her heels (and who will not catch up with her) and resume her strategy of looking and acting presidential---a strategy that has served her quite well to this point; and get back to focusing on the type of bread and butter issues that the current neocon (fake conservatives, in my opinion---or "corporatists" to borrow a term from Pat Buchanan) administration has screwed up---especially health care, consumer protection (like GWB's emasculated FDA and CPSC letting unsafe drugs and lead-laden products into the market), the environment, the home mortgage crisis, the consumer debt burden, etc.

As a lifelong dupage republican, the only thing I can say is Lighten up people, it's funny.

Wow. I didn't realize how much (racial?) hatred still still existed in the United States.

People hurling insults at SNL for doing what they've done well for decades -- providing a little comic relief at the end of a stressful week -- to help us laugh at yourselves and not take life so seriously.

The vitrolic hatred being released here, however, shows that you have not learned much in 2000 years.

When I saw President Bush' skit, taped prior to then rolled onto the screen during a keynote speech at a Republican dinner -- you know the one, where he was crawling around under his desk in the oval office stating, "Nope. No terrorists here", it made me want to cry for the state of my creation of mankind. That mankind finds humor in terrorism, death, destruction, and the killing of innocents grieves me yet I have so few to reach out and offer a hand of peace and love. Who is without sin? None. No, not one.

So I sent you Barack Obama and you persecute him like you did my son.

"You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak what is good? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart. How can you escape from the coming wars and tribulation?"

The quote is from "God"

The post is from me.

check your facts re voting records. Obama 33% missed, Hillary 17.4%. The highest non-voting record excepting Tim Johnson, who had a stroke last December, belongs to John McCain 52.6%

and GW.... regarding all those investigations and accusations during the Clinton administration, read a little about who was instigating all of them.... John Dean's "Conservatives Without Conscience". Hillary wasn't kidding about the vast right conspiracy, even if the Clintons did give them fodder.

Unless Obama's missing a vote makes a difference in the outcome, who cares? He's running for president and shouldn't be sitting around on the senate floor twiddling his thumbs waiting for the next motion to table or whatever.

Haters, stop! Obama on SNL is no different from Clinton on Arsenio Hall years ago.
Sit back, relax, and laugh a little. Are you that afraid of a man with real character, a grassroots organizer, and Harvard man? Or is America going to stay retarded and vote cause white is still right? Even when we have (a not too bright person) Dubya as the 'decider' now?

Bravo, Obama! Kick the ever lovin' crap out of that war-mongering, corporate butt-kissing banshee!

For Patrick Roberts above, who asks why does Obama attack Clinton alone and does not go after the Bush administration. Well, take a look at this speech he gave 2 days ago in SC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAkGr_Rrdn0

He is focusing on the shortcomings of the republican administration and talks about how democrats would be better. It is just that the news media only likes to focus on blowing up minor differences between Obama and Clinton.

what kind of rambling non-sense is that comment? please do not hide behind "I make too complex an argument for you to understand" bs.

i wish I can take back the 3 minutes of my life it took to read that garbage comment.

What I love is the "Christian Conservatives" spewing this hate on of all days a Sunday. I learned in Sunday school that God was love.

GW,

Wow, I was not aware of some other "sins" that Clinton committed during his White House tenure until you enumerated them all.

I would readily dump Hillary (who at this point in time I am inclined to vote) if only there are Abraham Lincolns, JFKs or George Washingtons in this pack of so called Presidentiables, but sad to say there are NONE.

I am not also inclined to vote for Obama who is just too eager to have a dialogue with that nuthead madman Iranian President.

So I am back to Hillary, because obviously with all those scandals and criminal investigations, at least she was able to do her job as a New York Senator. I can imagine that she must doubly be productive if there are no more distractions since these are just things of the past. And though Bill was really kind of "slick" at least we have seen him reformed and immersed himself with charity work. Give the couple a chance and forget the past. I am sooo looking forward that they will help turn around the misfortunes that this country went thru while in Bush reign. Bush has a squeaky clean life but he is a HORRIBLE administrator.

One phrase

White water.

Yep I want her back.

I agree with GW's post amazing list of particulars on both Clinton's.
But, I'm amazed that Obama went on SNL the way he lectures all the time his speeches are law lectures from the former University of Chicago law instructor. It's hard to listen to him he acts like he's better than everybody. He should be on SNL permanently he could do a routine on his friend of many years Tony Rezko and another number on Daley connected law partner Daniel Unruh. Jerry White, Springfield,IL

I do wish the morons of the world would study the constitution and learn exactly what impeachment is.

Basically it is a trial. Only the House of Representatives can impeach a President. They have done so three times. Presidents Andrew Johnson, Richard Nixon, and William Clinton.

Once articles of impeachment have been approved the process moves to the United States Senate for trial.

That happened twice. President Andrew Johnson and William Clinton were both tried in the Senate. They were acquitted. That means they were not guilty of what the House had accused them of.

President Nixon avoided trial by resigning. He knew he would be convicted and avoided the trial depending on his successor to absolve him. Which happened.

Is all of this so hard to unerstand or has America truly been "dumbed down"?

Hey GW. So dumb you forgot your last initial?

What we are fearful of is more years of "B" administration which is what a Republican win would give us. Not to much chance of that.

Yeah, more years of out of control government spending, hide your head in the sand instead of biting the bullet and taxing, more years of a stupid war that goes on for no reason and was started for not reason other than to glorify a vilain and his vilanous family, more years of lying, corruption, malfeasance, and foot tapping in public restrooms.

Bring it on baby.

GW:

It's not that I'm a Bill Clinton fan, because I'm not. And it's not that I care to defend Bill Clinton's reputation, because I don’t.

But, I do think some reasonable attempt at accuracy is needed when you set out to list Bill Clinton's sins, and particularly his "firsts." You failed in this regard.

In particular, Bill Clinton was never disbarred by either Arkansas or the U.S. Supreme Courts. In Arkansas, he was suspended for five years and ordered to pay a fine. Also, he was simply suspended from practicing before the U.S. Supreme Court, which is a routine occurrence whenever a lawyer is suspended from practice in any State. In case you didn’t know it, there is a substantial difference between suspension and disbarment from practicing law.

Bill Clinton's term of suspension expired last year. He could be reinstated in Arkansas and practice law there if he chose to do so.

Funny skit, but I wish the dems would spend more time focusing on the republicants instead of taking shots at each other ...

I worked an Obama booth at a street fair today. I had the pleasure of a face-to-face debate with a neocon who tried to spew negativity about Obama and Dems in general. In response, I smiled and told him that he had my symapthy for choosing between a corporate flip-flopper (Romney) and a guy who touts 9/11 but does paid speeches and doesn't give a crap about the real heroes of that day (Obvious). Great to shake someone's hand and kick them swiftly in the balls at the same time. I wish there was a way to literally do that to the majority of the ignorant, narrow-minded reactionary doofs on this thread. I'll say it now and repeat it again after the new year: Y'all are screwed, so you might as well get on board with the right candidate.

GOBAMA.

In his run for the president, has Obama appeared on Meet the Press? No. ABC's The Week? No. Face rhe Nation on CBS? No. Fox News Sunday? No. Wolf Blitzer's Sunday CNN? No. O'Reilly Factor? No. Does he go on any program in which any tough questions are asked? No.
Why? He's a lightweight.

I can't wait for SNL to do a skit like this with Rudy, Mitt, or John McCain. Oh wait, they won't. I love all these libs who whine about the fairness doctrine when it comes to radio when every major show marketed to younger people (Daily Show, SNL, and Colbert Report) are so obviously left. I remember Tough Crown was on Comedy Central and it was cancelled not because of low ratings, but because they didn't like the viewpoint of the comics on the show. Can you imagine the outrage in the drive-by media if it happened to the Daily Show? I'm just so sick of all these puff pieces that Obama and Clinton get in the media, it's awful

Unless Obama's missing a vote makes a difference in the outcome, who cares? He's running for president and shouldn't be sitting around on the senate floor twiddling his thumbs waiting for the next motion to table or whatever.

Hmmmmm, the problem is that he's been running for president ever since he basically walked into the Senate. The job description of a US Senator is to represent your state in the US Senate. I don't see one thing he's done to represent the state of Illinois. If someone can name one thing he's done besides run for president, I would love to hear it.

Obama...wearing an Obama mask. Isn't that what he does at every debate and campaign stop. With such a small amount of National and International political experience and with next-to-no allies on Capitol Hill, Obama is ALWAYS wearing an Obama mask. He's created a baseless image and he hides behind it on a regular basis.

On another note...he calls himself a "uniter." Am I the ONLY person that hears the voice of the George W. Bush of the 2000 election in that word? And even if Obama IS a "uniter"--unlike Bush who, also, said he was a "uniter"--who does he plan to unite? He's said he would use the military in Pakistan...uniter? He only votes on 20% of Senate issues--around what can he claim to be united?

Lighten up they say. Maybe Obama could have lighten up a bit and wore a costume. Instead, some 97 year Mr Rogers showed up in the Neighborhood of Make-believe to make a point on the value of being yourself. Snore.

No Mike you are not. I'm right there with you.

Man, she makes a SCARY witch!! I could not fall asleep after seeing that (and even worse, the munchkins are going to vote her in as the Wicked Witch of Washington)!

Ding dong, Billy.....

Jeez, a lot of hate for a Reverend, not very Christian of you. You must have gotten your reverend title from the same store Jesse Jackson did.

From above:

"As a conservative independent who disagrees with Sens. Clinton and Obama on a number of policy issues, I just want to say that this whole "Obama misses votes" story is such an obvious red herring that those who employ it look pathetic."

There are so many Herring swimming about, you'd think someone was farming them.

I want to correct something: this was NOT an "attack on her former President husband." Stop trying to create beef. He's distinguishing himself from Clinton on the necessary fronts: policy and character issues. Both of these are fair game and quite mandatory in the Presidential picking process.

Also, this crap about Obama being a "lightweight" is old. Lightweights don't attracts millions of dollars in small donations and draw hundreds of thousands of Americans to rallies. Lightweights don't have a distinguished State Legislative and national record of progress. Lightweights don't win elections- Obama will.

At first I was inclined to appreciate the SNL jokes, but I think it is too much calling the Former First Lady a witch.

Have you Americans forget about manners?

I think I now understand why your standing in the world is fast eroding. The once mighty great America is slowly crumbling.

Obama get an education before becoming president of the USA.

4 years ago you were just an Alderman... You think you know all there is to run a country. I voted for you then

Maybe the following election if you would stop saying stupid things without thinking! PLEASE, Now I am sorry I voted for you at all!

You,
GUY'z look so pathetic. I can see the HRC machine manoeuvring on this particular issue. She was caught on national television displaying her double talk political maniac. Those who accuse Obama, you are just pathetic and vain by his courageous and smart attitude. Haters, the HRC machine you just hope you are as smart uh.
Sorry, you cannot hide your attitude for so long. Your political book is outdated. You can only do it 99 times, but the 100th times belong to the cop. And barack Obama is there to put you in your place. We are volunters, we are the american people and we are going to fight for barack obama unconditionally because he is the real deal.
Go Barack Obama 08.

For Tom, Richard Nixon was never impeached. That "honor" is shared only by Bill Clinton and Andrew Johnson. Nixon resigned the presidency prior to a vote in the House. Oh, by the way, did you know that one of the two presidents to have been impeached has his wife running for pres? Care to try for three?

Robert A Brown Jr., I am not sure who you think you voted for. But Obama has never been an Alderman. Certainly not four years ago.

What everyone is failing to acknowledge is that both Obama and Hillary are nothing more than puppets for lobbyists and PACs, which is the main crux of their financial support. You talk about Obama not going on Meet The Press, CNN, etc., but if you should know that neither one has gone on Real Time with Bill Maher! They both avoid any show that would ask them any hard questions. That is a fact!!!

Good thing I'm going with Edwards, the only person with a "real" answer for healthcare and seeing that our children get the education and medical insurance they need.

I want Hillary and Obama to scratch it out with either and act like completely fools. Edwards will lead the us to the future and make this country great once again!

Edwards for President!

Wow! Republicans better start looking for a better candidate than bat-snot crazy Rudy, weather vane/waffle Mitt, "I play a likeable character on Law & Order so vote for me" Fred or "1000 years war in the Middle East" Johnny. All you can do is hurl insults at Hillary, dredge up old mud and point to friends involved in shady business deals. When republicans have friends involved in shady business deals, no one it doesn't make news. Haliburton, Enron, Blackwater... and you want to talk about some 3rd rate real estate deal and oral sex in the White House!
I don't love Hillary, Edwards or Obama, but another 4 years of the utter incompetence that has passed for government is not an option.

I'm ashamed to have NObama as my Senator. To think he has the highest no voting record currently in the Senate. However, since NObama is not voting that's a good thing for the residents of Illinois. Now if Durbin could find something to do, besides voting in the Senate, before being voted out of office. That would make me very happy. Imagine both Durbin who loves comparing our troops to Nazis, and NObama who wants to get cuddly with the Iran president both being kicked out of the Senate. Oh happy days.

To be sure, the dem.s get puff pieces. repub.s have an entire network. Do you really think that in the face of the dis-information juggernaut that is Faux News, that Alan Colmes represents the left's point of view?

Obama is the Coolest ! I was too young to know the Kennedy era, but I hope my 2 little girls will witness a miracle with Senator Obama beating the cynics.

Doesn't anybody wish they would all just grow up and do their jobs? Give us information, tell us what you stand for and are planning to do for us, and win the election on MERIT, not mud-slinging or BS. When we as Americans start expecting our leaders to be honest, dignified, and respectful, maybe this partisan circus will stop. Maybe they will get something done. Maybe some day we will actually trust a politician. It starts with our expectations. I think all of this bad-mouthing each other is unacceptable... Unless you're a junior high school girl, that is. Why don't we just elect my 14 year old niece?
