DES MOINES -- The presidential campaign for Sen. Barack Obama confirmed this morning what has long been expected: Oprah Winfrey is going to hit the campaign trail with her favorite politician.

The talk show star will join the Illinois Democrat for stops in Iowa, South Carolina and New Hampshire on Dec. 8 and Dec. 9. She will attend two events with him in Iowa and one in each of the other states.

The Dec. 8 Iowa stops will be in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids, the state's largest cities and media markets, while those on Dec. 9 will be in Columbia, S.C., and Manchester, N.H.

There is great debate about how much celebrity endorsements help presidential candidates, but Winfrey's presence is certain to generate a significant buzz in the early voting states. She could also help Obama with women, a key electoral demographic.

Tickets for the events, likely to draw large crowds, will become available on Dec. 3. In Iowa, the campaign plans to offer training for how to participate in the state's rapidly approaching Jan. 3 caucuses.

The tickets will be free, but the campaign is asking for some political help in return. To secure "preferred seating" in Iowa, for example, the campaign says people must either "commit four hours to volunteering for Barack's campaign" or "attend a caucus training with your local organizer or precinct captain."

In September, Winfrey hosted a fundraiser at her estate in California where she helped raise $3 million for Obama.

This is great! I think Oprah should do her thing to get Obama the nomination, and at the same time position herself to run to become the first woman president in 2016. I can't wait to see the nasty old negative comments about this event.

The backlash might come from men who don't like Oprah. But they were not likely to vote for Barack, anyway. So this helps Obama in his campaign v. Hillary.

If the GOP counts on major religious leaders to bolster popularity in congregations, then endorsement from a celebrity is no different. Keep that in mind when they start slinging arrows over this.

Hey, it's a free country, but it gets a little tiring when celebs like to throw their weight and popularity around at political time. Politics is becoming too much show and not enough reality.

I feel that Oprah's involvement would damage Obama's reputation and result in big loss in the number of votes.I'm one of them.Oprah overshadows Obama's political talents and personality.

Not mentioned in the article by John McCormick, but found after a 1 second google search, is the fact Oprah has a history of supporting democratic candidates, so therefore she is biased.

Yup I'm gonna do what I do when I see a good classic with the Oprah label...boycott. It ruins the cover...who cares if the sales go up. In all fairness John D said my piece.

To choose is to be politically bias. All of us, who vote, choose one candidate over the other is bias…

This is nothing new in politics. B.J. had all of Hollywood behind him and J.F.K had Frank Sinatra...until they found out Frank had a few mobsters staying at his Casino as his guests...then they dropped Ol' Blue Eyes like a hot potato.

Anyone who votes for someone based on the opinion of a celebrity should lose their voting rights. I am sure that Oprah's life challenges are very similar to people in Iowas. You know like what Malibu town to buy or what island to buy. Also how many butlers to keep on permanant p/r. You know the issues that all Americans face.

Vinny....Are you a distant relative of Sen. McCarthy? Should we also take away the voting rights of the sheeple who listen to the voices of the righteous right? You know, the ones who hate the gays then have their own little fling with men. Or leaders like Oral Roberts' son who took money for his own use?
Or do you have more in common with hypocrites?

Won't make me vote for him unless she wants too pay my mortgage for about 2 years, I might reconsider.

She might make a heck of a vice-president.

There are few more savvy business people in the country.

I believe this is still the United States of America. Every citizen (including local and Hollywood celebrities) have a right to vote and have the right to free speech. So what if she's helping his campaign. It's her right. If you're going to vote for Obama, this shouldn't change your mind. If you're complaining too much, I believe it's because you have no intention of endorsing or voting for him and it's all sour grapes. You all seem not to blink and eye when the religious leaders come out and endorse the Republican candidates.

Hey Democrats let Hillary know that you can actually REDUCE TAXES BY TWO THIRDS (2/3) and not raise them for decades and pay for all programs, however porky they maybe, by nationalizing all of the ill-gotten assets, stolen from you and me the citizen, by Big Oil, Insurance Companies (they cherry pick their clients from illegally obtained Data-Mined family medical histories and willingly give insurance coverage for Chemotherapy to people who have harmless or normal trace amounts of cancer cells in their biopsies), Pharmaceutical Corporations (they steal R&D from our tax funded Universities anyway), G.E. (they control the mainstream media), and other monopolies like Monsanto (they feed us nutrition depleted crap that has started to alter human genes), etc.
Close all those privatized prisons aided and abetted by extremist conservative bigoted appointee Judges (who prey on our taxes by increasingly wrongfully jailing minorities and pot smokers).
How times has it to be proven deregulation and privatization makes every Conservative is nothing less than a Corrupt White Collar Criminal stealing billions perhaps trillions of dollars from the nation, whereas, ordinary criminals are responsible for stealing a few millions.
Tax the assets of churches who preach politically (and who feed ludicrous End Times fantasy stories to the unemployed and depressed victims of outsourcing) and don’t forget their phony so-called schools, colleges and universities (remember Monica Goodling who ran the Attorney Generals Office, and other so-called supposed graduates like Dijon Lomborgh all of whom actually failed in the regular education system and now suppress the legitimate work of scientists like those in N.A.S.A., F.D.A., E.P.A., etc. (by nepotism and by federal bureaucratic implanting).
Stop paying unregulated and unaccountable criminal corporations, like the Halliburton’s, Blackwater’s, and D.O.D., twenty times what we pay our Volunteer Heroes and Heroines.
We know that kids volunteer for army service for the promise of access to the ever increasingly elusive right to a decent education, that is, if they make it out of there alive and are not brain damaged. Their parents lost their house by deregulated sub prime mortgages therefore unable to pay for their kid’s education.
Corporations and Conservatives are the real extremist terrorists who want to kill Americans. Bin Ladin doesn’t come close to these criminals who get to prey on us everyday.
And we the sheep keep feeding their implanted Saudi Royalty who now wants to buy US assets like DOW JONES, or, the Ports with our money, and on and on.
End the Cycle, tune Hillary in, and radically change everything, vote or DO SOMETHING ...ANYTHING.

I don't like Oprah's involvement in Obama's campaign. I know the black people like to stick together for the greater good, but this is just too lock-step for my liking. So far, Hiliary has my vote and Oprah will have no influence on that. I sort of resent her getting active in the race. I would rather she just backed Democrats in general.

Very well stated Seri Ous. Especially the comment about judges who have a financial interest in prisons and detention centers which is clearly a conflict of interest. Its suppose to be a person is innocent until proven guilty. However, today its a person is guilty until proven innocent. Its a shame most judges are in bed with the prosecutors office and that it is all about money, not justice and civil rights supposedly guaranteed by our constitution. It also includes the 1st amendment being violated by the state when an inmate places a telephone call which is monitored and can be used in court, not to mention is an outrageous collect call. Its all about money, not justice or guaranteed rights. If Obama addresses and attempts to correct some of the issues mentioned, he has my vote.

Karen H. ~ Why is race the reason Oprah is backing Obama? Did she ever say that? I see Oprah as a humanitarian who has fought for the rights of "PEOPLE" not race. I would vote for Oprah if she were to run for president. She is truly classy, business savvy, and fearless. She's passed out money to "PEOPLE" had over fist; accomplished people, unaccomplished people. If she would back Hillary would race be an issue then? The fact is Oprah has the means to support Obama and those means are her own personal struggles as a person. She just happens to be a black woman. A black woman with a lot of influence. Her influence comes by other people who have identified with her struggles rather they be white, green, or blue. "PEOPLE" love Oprah! "PEOPLE" hate that they can't be Oprah. The fact that she is supporting the struggle is not racial it is genius! Call them “The O Factor”, they make a wonderful team! Barack Obama will make a POWERFUL PRESIDENT!!! :-} Please exercise YOUR right to vote. Vote for Barack Obama as the next President for the “United States of America”.

Obama is not electable, and if Hillary continues to open her mouth out of both sides she wont be either. I would have to question how much Oprah really knows about the constitution, and politics in general. Its not a time for emotion in our country, its time for some hard actions to protect our security, cut taxes, and goverment spending. Neither Clinton or Oboma will do that.

I agree with Karen H. I have definately made my decision for Hillary Clinton. This has really turned me off. I don't care if Oprah wants to suggest a book but I don't want her suggesting my vote. That is my right and mine to decide. I think Obama is a great guy but I know Washington and they are all fooling themselves to think someone young and inexperienced can make change without a lot of upset. And it will be the Oprah followers who are upset NOT the Oprah business associates. Hillary will get my vote and I am going to turn off Oprah. Good bye Oprah....
