Romney on media: There's always FOX, talk radio: The Swamp

The Swamp

by Mark Silva

At his "Ask Mitt Anything'' events, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney gets asked a lot of questions.

He was on his way to one this morning in Iowa City when he fielded a question at a morning stop at The Coffee Corner down the road on West Main Street in Washington, Iowa.

A reputable source relays to the Swamp, and another strong source confirms in essence, this encouter at the coffee counter:

A woman asked the former governor of Massachusetts: What can we do to stop the newspaper and television from attacking the president?

Romney replied: "It's amazing isn't it?

"Well, fortunately you can change the channels,'' he said, "and there are channels like FOX that gives a different perspective, and you can also go on the Internet and talk radio."

So, Mark, are you trying to say that Fox News never criticizes Bush or the Republicans? Do you watch Brit Hume's show? Do you watch the Fox News Report with Shepard Smith? What about Bill O'Reilly? He knocked Bush on a host of issues.

Or, let's put it this way:
Do you Mark Silva put a liberal spin on the news you report?
How about David Gregory?
Bill Plante?
Bill Niekirk?
Frank James?
Or, how about the Tribune headline with 150,000 point type blarring: Ryan Divorce Bombshell. Course, two weeks later the paper did say the headline went overboard.
Does Fox News lean conservative? Sure, it does.
Does the Tribune, NY Times, Washington Post, NBC News, ABC News, CNN, MSNBC, CBS News (forged Bush National Guard memos!), Atlanta Urinal and Constipation, LA Times, so on and so forth lean liberal to far left? Most definitely.

Or, Mark, how about the countless times you folks censored my posts from a month or so ago about the Colorado college newspaper that had a headline that blarred: Taser This: F--- Bush? Not once did I use the word. I've seen swear words up the ying yang from the Left get through and countless posts in which just the letter with astericks used, but that bit of factual news couldn't pass muster. Is it because you didn't want folks to know about it?

I love that joke about Fox being fair and balanced.

"A woman asked the former governor of Massachusetts: What can we do to stop the newspaper and television from attacking the president?

Romney replied: "It's amazing isn't it?"

They should both move to Pakistan. It sounds like they'd be much happier in a country where the President isn't criticized by an independent media.

I agree with Mitt about changing the channels, There are so many negative comments made on some stations and News Papers. We do not take papers any more. And we do change the stations. You really do not hear Mitt say anything bad about any one if you hear it from him. Other wise it is completely different than how he himself states it.Go Mitt. The best thing that could happen to America would be Mitt.

By all means, change the channel to the White House channel of lies and propaganda aka Fox News or tune in the radio to the racist, bigot and big fat liar channel aka Rush Limbaugh.

"Well, fortunately you can change the channels,'' Romney said, "and there are channels like FOX that gives a different perspective, and you can also go on the Internet and talk radio."

And there are channels like Fox that give a different perspective? yeah, they give a different "perspective" alright...HAHAHAHAHAHOHOHHAHAHOHO!

You know, this whole "liberal media" thing that RNC BRUCIE and CRAZY JERRY from Springfield are always crying about is really just any media outlet that doesn't wholeheartedly agree with their rigid Wingnut ideology, anotherwords they tell the truth.

They should call Fox a "propoganda opinion channel" not a news channel because what they do at the Rudy Giuliani for President Channel....I mean Faux News Channel, is closer to what Pravda did for the Soviet Union than actual news.

Here's some fine "journalistic" moments from Faux News star Bill-O', enjoy:

Does that mean there really isn't only one perspective shared by ABC NBC CBS the NYT WaPo PBS CNBC CNN etc.? Will somebody next suggest that the half of the electorate who voted for Bush aren't all evil rich white men who are bent on mandatory church attendance?

The way the main stream media distorts and lies about Bush, the war, this great country. Who watches them; I haven’t wasted my time listening to ABC, NBC, CNN … in years.

I don’t want to be a miss informed liberal fool like so many of your posters on this site.

The newspapers and televisions will never stop attacking the president. You bet if a D wins the WH, faux noise, fat boy drug addict, falafel boy and all the other talking heads will go into big attack mode and spend all their time attacking, smearing, etc. I mean, how many disparaging books about Hillary Clinton can one sell in the US? The reichwingers have been foaming at the mouth about her since before her husband seriously whomped his republicrite opponents, the first time! And of course, when someone asks McCain "How do we stop the bitch?" this is perfectly acceptable language. Right.

"A reputable source relays to the Swamp, and another strong source confirms..."

An anonymous, unnamed "reputable source" tells a story "confirmed" by another anonymous, unnamed "strong source".

Doesn't this article violate the Tribune's own rules against unnecessarily using anonymous sources?

Next time we read in the Tribune the usual newspaper guff about how they are the responsible ones for reporting, remember this article. It isn't so much biased reporting as it is bad reporting.

The Tribune has its uses. It's sports section has value. Bird cages can be lined with it. And if you have a puppy that isn't house-trained...

Silva's note: Hey Bruce, when someone relays a comment by a candidate at an event which I didnt attend, I confirm it with another source -- in this case both irrerfutable really. Just working to keep it all accurate. Sorry you don't appreciate the effort. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

C J Turtle,
You don't have to tell us that you only listen to Fixed News Channel and Druggie Rush, your meandering ideologe head in the sand posts tell us all we need to know about that:

You’re a great example of what I learned a long time ago. Shallow minds generally lower themselves to name calling when they have nothing intelligent to say. You do a lot of name calling and never have anything intelligent to say. You are the perfect example of a shallow mind. Well done son.

C J Tortoise,
Is that all you've got smart guy?

You and Lil Johnny D'nogirlfriend make for a fine salad of Wingnut stupidity on here but I would expect nothing less from a group who want's this chick to be our next President:

Dear "Miss Informed",
You just stated that you don't listen to the news so you won't be a misinformed liberal fool. Putting the absurdity of that statement aside, you're guilty of the same shallow minded name calling as you condemned.

I understand that most of you who have been screeching for this war and trying to bury the ones who were initially opposed to it, are now quite embarassed that you were completely and utterly wrong.

By your support for this administration and its policies you have sat silently by while our constitutional rights are being dismantled, and our soldiers are being sent off to die in a war that is ultimtely making us less safe by the day. I understand its easier for you to deny this embarassment and not want to listen to the truth even when its blaring at you from all channels(except Fox).

If you truly love this country you should try to recover it from the thieves who are stealing it away under our very noses. How much more injustice will you take? When will you admit you were wrong?

A number of you here could benefit from listening to a number of news sources, including FOX. The more strongly you are convinced that certain stations are propaganda is all the more reason to broaden your views. There are a number of ways at looking at all issues. I'm certainly glad FOX is around. No other network would dare tell the other side of the story. Good for them!

Sorry CJ, but John E hit it right on the head (your head, that is). You made this statement and provided no example, evidence, link or argument as to what exactly you refer to as "lies". Who died any made you so informed? And John E's "Turtle" title was a lot funnier than your condescending little "Well done son".

Come on out of your shell, the water's of reality are warm...depressing, but better than the frigid realm of denial.

John D
All I read was Mr. Silva reporting a story that seemed favorable to Fox News. Why you got your panties up in a bunch is beyond my comprehension, but its this knee-jerk paranoia defensive reaction that makes the rest of us Republicans wonder what EXACTLY is your agenda, your motivation?

I swear, you are so far right wing fringe in your idolatry that it makes we Libertarian Paulites seem centrist by comparison.

You want facts...go to a news source. You want confirmation you're an idiot...go to Faux News. Thanks Willard. We couldn't agree more.

Now faux noise must be attacking the vice president too! They just did a bit on PFC Jordan Fox. He got a signing bonus to go to Iraq. When a bomb went off, injuring his back and blinding his right eye, the military sent him home. Now the pentagon wants $3000 back since he didn't finish his tour of duty.

As commander in chief, this abomination and travesty lies squarely at the feet of vice president liar in chief earboy. Why does earboy hate the troops?

And yet, and yet, and yet...
When a McCain supporter calls Hillary a bitch, the reichwingers are notoriously silent here. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. republicrites.

Anyone who has spent any time on conservative websites or listened to conservative talk radio the last few years knows Bush has received plenty of criticism from The Right. Many Bush policies have been anything but conservative. The Left attacks him no matter what he does. If he doesn’t show up quickly enough for a natural disaster, or meet with certain groups, he’s ridiculed. When he does show up, it’s a “photo-op”. Many of his policies have been straight out of the leftie playbook, and still no credit. It’s a joke.

CJ – It’s unfortunate a website that could be used to generate interesting dialogue on the issues is muddled with posters like John E.

That's Bruces game Silva. He's just a GOP propaganda tool. Speaking of propaganda, how can anyone think that Fox is fair and balanced. The channel is a joke. Like one big republican advertisement.

Fox is not news, it's noise.

"A woman asked the former governor of Massachusetts: What can we do to stop the newspaper and television from attacking the president?"

Another example of how clueless conservatives are. Still never found a conservative in person who made any sense at all. No wonder the rest of the world thinks Americans are not the leaders conservatives like to pretend we still are.

Wouldn't they love it if they could round-up all the liberal critics of Bush, throw them in jail, & shut down the media?

FOX/Rush news would continue on as the righted-winged propoganda it is.

WoW, that is the smartest thing we have ever heard come out of Romney. Thanks for bringing it up Mark Silva. He is absolutely on point supporting freedom of choice. Don't like the news, change the channel. If we had it John D's and Bruce's way no one would have that choice. They should heed his advice. Don't like the Swamp go some where else. Conservative networks need your business to stay a flout next to the supposed size of the "liberal media." You've got one channel we've got ten. Who's fault is that? Not the networks responding to demand and not "the loons," but the few conservative goons who think they will beat the demand in the media by hanging out at "liberal hot spots!" Way to stick it them by giving them your business, or rather unyielding attention for that matter.

Illogic Man, there is more fair and balanced reporting in one day at Fox than there is in a year's worth of stuff from CNN, NBC, CBS, NY Times and the Chicago Tribune -- COMBINED!

Smirkey, for your information, I am not on the right wing fringe. Actually I am very mainstream traditional conservatism. I have voted for moderate Republicans. Hell, I've even voted for a couple of Democrats: Alan Dixon and Jesse White.

Hmmm, I also give monthly to the World Wildlife Fund, hardly a conservative outlet.

What say you Smirksalot??

There Goes The Swamp Neighborhood (V.2)--apologies to Ms. Crow

Hey let's party, let's get down, let's turn Reich radio on,
This is the meltdown.
Get out the camera, take a picture,
Rudy drag queen and the wing-nuts
Are all out on the town.
And Propane John's in bed
Nursing a swollen head.

Sunshine Jerry and Bruce Whinerdice
Don't like the scene anyhow.
They drank Kool-aid on a Saturday night
Just to see what the fuss was about.
Now there goes the neighborhood.

Johnny D. who looks so sickly
Is standing in his g-string in the shower.
He reads his trade rags in the bathroom
While the police dust his mother's plastic flowers.
And Billy/Jeff's in jail
Making a killing through the U.S. mail.

Sunshine Jerry and Bruce Whinerdice
Don't like the scene anyhow.
They drank Kool-aid on a Saturday night
Just to see what the fuss was about.
There goes the neighborhood.
There goes the neighborhood.

This is the movie of the screenplay
Of the book about the Chimp and Shotgun Cheney
The messenger gets shot down just for carrying the message to a flunky.
We can't be certain who the villains are 'cuz everyone's so smirky
But the afterparty's sure to be a wing-ding as it moves into your city.

Hmmmm,

Things are fishy in New Hampshire. Looks like something right out of the Rove playbook. Mr Conspiracy Theory himelf, Crazy John Devolo, ought to eat this up with a spoon:

http://www.newsandcurrents.com/news/2007/11/did-mitt-romney-push-poll-himself.html

Romney, Richardson and Giuliani are the only candidates with the experience and expertise to be president. And maybe Huckabee. The rest, like Clinton, McCain, Obama, Edwards, Biden et al, have no executive leadership experience at all. It's no time to elect to the presidency a person that no corporation, college or school board in America would hire as an administrator based on their experience or lack thereof.

It should be "we distort, you decide".

Ben,

I didn’t say “I don’t listen to the news”, a pay a lot of attention to the news, what I sad was I haven’t waist my time listening to ABC, NBC, CNN … in years. I will elaborate. These are not news sources they are liberal propaganda sources. I don’t believe they have any legitimacy as “news” sources. The reason that Fox and other sources have grown in audience to the degree they have is because of there legitimacy and intense scrutiny to the accuracy through active involvement with intelligent minds.

The liberal sources above and efforts at talk radio are dieing because they don’t stand up to intense scrutiny of truth. That is why liberals are such prolific blogers they can hide and just call people they don’t agree with names.

CJ

CJ,

Buy a dictionary.

Anyone who believes ABC,CBS,CNN,MSNBC,PBS,PBS TV,or NBC aren't liberal is a liberal.
The same goes for the old gray Lady The NY Times,Chicago Sun Times, the liberal AP and UPI, Reuters,Time magazine,US News and World Report, Newsweek, etc.
They are all suffering from Anti -Bush syndrome.
PBS is especially annoying because some $400 million of our tax dollars are going to keep Public Radio and Television liberal Democrat socialists.
Yes, I like Rush Limbaugh he is a class act who tells us what we can't get through liberal filters. Jerry White, Springfield, IL

Answer the question in the picture being commented on: Why DO 80% of Fox viewers believe that Iraq had something to do with 9/11? Could it be that they were LIED to REPEATEDLY? Could it be that Republic Party supporting hacks like yourself don't care about the truth and reality?

Geographically Challenged Dumb Dumb Little Johnnie D, "the Joseph Stalin of Streamwood" - got sources for any studies that back this allegation up? Or once again have you been caught spewing your OPINION and trying to pretend that it's fact?

I vote for the second sentence.

"These are not news sources they are liberal propaganda sources. I don’t believe they have any legitimacy as “news” sources. The reason that Fox and other sources have grown in audience to the degree they have is because of there legitimacy and intense scrutiny to the accuracy through active involvement with intelligent minds."

Clearly yours is not an "intelligent mind." Are those the same "liberal" news sources that have been pushing for war with Iraq from Day 1? Who NEVER questioned any of the obvious fallacies in the Administration's argument?

Don't you think if those networks were "liberal," they may ask such unpleasant questions as to why the felling of World Trade Center 7 looks exactly like a controlled demolition, and the leaseholder of the building said as much when he admits to "pulling" it? Or maybe Condi Rice's obviously false testimony in front of the 9/11 Commission when she said no one could have anticipated planes being used as missiles even though there were war games of that design running ON SEPTEMBER 11, and 2 months prior the G8 Summit was wrung with anti-aircraft batteries to protect against just such a threat?

Did you see the last Democratic debate? Wolf Blitzer played gotcha all night long with the Dems, hardly the example of a "propagandist" seeking to boost his own team.

Sorry guys, but Fox News isn't the flipside of the "liberal media" coin. It is purely propaganda. How many times did they show pedophile Mark Foley's name with a D in front of it instead of an R? How long does it take to correct such an obvious mistake.

I'm guessing Fox News has NEVER shown Rep. William Jefferson with an R in front of his name, have they?

Finally, I laugh out loud every time I hear Fox News call Hillary or even Bill Clinton "a liberal." Quick, name a Democrat to the right of Hillary? (Joe Lieberman is an independent, NOT a Democrat). Perhaps your "independent mind" (chuckle chuckle) should take a look at the LIBERAL argument against the Clintons.

I thought most people who watched Fox News understood that they are receiving unfiltered propaganda. I'm a bit sickened to realize that they think they are getting a "moderate" perspective. Fox News is to the facts what Pravda was. Wake up, zombies.

Only people who have their head in the sand watch Fox. Nice trick. p.s. Romney is a starch shirt robot. I bet he's out varment hunting in a three piece

"What can we do to stop the newspaper and television from attacking the president"?

"Well, fortunately you can change the channels,'' he said, "and there are channels like FOX..."
.............

Somehow that didn't work out so good for President Clinton.
I wonder why that was?

Fox = Noise

Fox = Insight

Fox = Insight

"Yes, I like Rush Limbaugh he is a class act...."

Who needs to argue with conservatives when they bury themselves in their lack of logic?

With all the conservative yammering about integrity, values, etc., a guy is a class act when his background is a drug addict, multiple divorcee, egotistical, liar.

This is who conservatives are encouraged to listen to for their bs.

No wonder conservatives will never win the White again. You have only yourself to blame.

RomanB

You offer such "logic" here in your statement ...

oh wait a minute, in fact you offer no logic at all just the hate speech... your lack of tolerance is offensive … you offer nothing else, certainly nothing of value to the issue, just intolerance…
