Obama is on the rise in CA!!! With not ONE dollar spent in advertising - volunteers like me all across the LA area nearly filled that stadium in less than a week by making phone calls!!! It was an AMAZING evening with NE-YO (Grammy Nom) and the Goo-Goo Dolls and BARACK OBAMA recieving about 5 standing O's!

I have always enjoyed Oprah. Even in her celebrity, she has appealed to the common, everyday working woman. But, In reading about her speech for Obama in Illinois " It's time to seize the opportunity to support a man who, as the Bible says, loves mercy and does justly," I find it appalling to quote the bible for someone who refused to take his oath office on the Bible. What an conflict of views. I will not be voting for Obama and I will avoid watching Oprah in the future. I was truly disappointed. There is too much distraction from the issues with celebrity hype. It insults the intelligence of the nation.

If flip-flopping, staging questions and slamming the other candidates as soon as they threaten your lead is part of what makes a 'qualified' president, I'll be pulling for the rookie.
Its time we saw a real change in the political machine. 'Qualified'? 'Experienced'? Just because Hillary knows how to grease the wheels of the a stagnant, corrupt political machine, won't necessarily make her a 'good' president.
Logical, optimistic and determined to initiate significant change, Obama had my vote well before Oprah came on the scene.

I can't tell whether Lucy's invective is genuine or a campaign plant (the H supporters often have a negative reaction as first comment, very shortly after a positive O article appears). I'll assume it's genuine because it is so full of spirit. Yet I can't get past the strange reasoning.

For example, why would Oprah make a better President than Obama? How does one reach the conclusion that Oprah is running the show? I see someone who is tumbling head-over-heels to do whatever she can to help with a campaign that has just closed the gap in IA, SC, and NH, and possibly taken the lead in two. In this respect, she is no different from economists, policy experts, military chiefs, not-for-profit administrators, and other people who hope to join the new leadership, as well as veterinarians, social workers, churchgoers, and other people in the street, who all want to join this movement for positive change. I think Oprah wants to be on the record because it is an historical moment for America. Not at all because of color or gender, but because of leadership style and leadership quality. If indeed Obama is a rational-type personality on the Katharine Briggs/Isabel Myers typing, then he would be a rare President, joining only Madison, Jefferson, and Lincoln, sharing that type. That's something to celebrate.

What people should see in Obama is a thoughtful national leader who has been able to run a very effective and positive campaign, reaching and inspiring people with all kinds of backgrounds. His years as a Constitutional law expert at one of the great law schools should be very satisfying compared to years as a patent lawyer at an insider-influence firm in a small state. His bipartisan national legislation for transparency of government should hint at greatly democratic leadership. His endorsements from widows of some of our most highly esteemed late Senators, Paul Simon and Tom Eagleton, should mean more than what Oprah says.

Whatever the reasons people see a leader in Obama, they seem to have very little to do with Lucy's concerns. I have no doubt that with a fair hearing, Obama will close the gap in California and Washington, too (if indeed there is any gap), and that fearful reactions like Lucy's will become fewer and farther between.

With or without Oprah, the Goo Goo Dolls or anyone else, Obama is nothing more than a novelty candidate with little substance and experience. Even civil rights icon Andrew Young said last week that Obama was too immature for the presidency. It's been fun, but the real numbers are about to come in. Obama will soon be painted a loser by the Democratic party and unelectable. Now if we can just get this this do nothing con man off of our payroll in Illinois.

If it's okay for Oprah to suggest that people vote for Obama for no other reason than because he's black, why isn't it okay for anyone to suggest people don't vote for him for no other reason than because he's black? The Obama campaign has foolishly made race an issue, but they can't have it both ways.

A new CNN poll yesterday confirmed what we already know. Moderate Democrats think Clinton shares their values; liberal Democrats feel Obama shares their values. He authored the most sweeping ethics reform bill passed into Illinois law in over 20 years. He has a degree in International Relations, a Law degree, and taught constitutional law for 10 years. Perhaps you should research your facts before you try to fact check someone else. Obama's father was an atheist that he only met once in his life. His mother was not atheist or Muslim. The school he attended was a public one with no affiliation to Islam, though Islam was heavily practiced in that area. Christianity is practiced heavily in America and I attended public school, that does not mean I was raised a Christian. Though my mother was a serious Christian and my father was atheist. What am I? An American! The only thing that can even come close to being "deep Muslim roots" is the simple fact that when he was a child he lived in a country that had a large following of Islam. This is an old story, it has been fact checked repeatedly for anyone who cares to take the time and learn the truth. I encourage anyone who has any amount of free will and intelligence to look into for themselves and ignore the ignorance and brainwashing attempts of uniformed bloggers.

Obama's worst enemy may not be Oprah's race baiting, but his wife Michelle who said that blacks "will wake up and get it" and vote for Obama. She went on to suggest that it is not reasonable for blacks not to vote for Obama. Using her "support your race only" logic, I guess it's not not reasonable for whites to vote for Obama either then. But that's not to say she wasn't spiritual. She taught Obama to look at and respect all religion but to also think for himself. Well, not quite Jackie (1:20pm). Those four years when Obama was in school in Indonesia, I had a Japanese nanny, and I ain't turned Japanese. A lot of five year olds have rock'n'roll babysitters, too, and they turn out listening to Kenny G.

If you really want to be fair, and I rather fear that you do not, you should have a closer look at Obama's REAL school, which is Punahou School in Honolulu Hawaii. I think you might be amazed at its very American (and extremely Christian) history. For example, the Indiana Jones character is probably based on a Senator who graduated from that school, grandson of the first missionary to Hawaii, and father of the US ambassador to France during WW2 who obtained visas for 5000 fleeing Jews. Baseball's official inventor enrolled his kid there, and Punahou was one of the hotspots for playing baseball in the 1880's. Take a look at the photo of USMC Major General Ross Dwyer, or Medal of Honor winner Francis Wai, who died for this country at the Gulf of Leyte in the Philippines, or General Sam Armstrong who fought at Gettysburg -- all Punahou grads like Obama. The first U.S. fighter plane in the air over Pearl Harbor? Belonged to one of Obama's math teachers. How do I know these things? Because I met Obama 36 years ago in fifth grade at that school. No prayer rugs and no Koran back then, sorry. He was just a normal guy who happened to know a lot more about the world than the rest of us.

But let's get back to more important topics, like Oprah. I'm convinced that Oprah is getting more out of this tour than Obama is! I hope the O campaign keeps Will Smith outside the door (though I'd let Jada in, anytime!).

It is always amazing to me to read these comments, especially when regarding Obama. His detractors very rarely have anything intelligent or substantive to say, relying on cynicism and personal attacks. Meanwhile, his supporters present as educated, deeply passionate, and concerned about the future of this country. If the debate for the 08 election plays out like this, it won't be a contest. If you don't like Obama, do yourself a favor and try a different tactic. Condescention and empty rhetoric are not flattering.

What posts here by Obama supporters qualify as "attacks"? Since when does clarifying facts become attacks?

First throw untruths about Obama publicly. Then when someone tries to point out the incorrect facts in defense, criticize that person for attacking you. This is so Ann Coulter-like. Then say, I know you are but what am I. Nice.

What has Obama done that is special? Ignoring his career in office so far, he was editor of the Harvard Law Review, a position that is extremely difficult to attain and is an indicator of high academic achievement and intelligence. Then, he was a lecturer at the University of Chicago, one of the finest academic institutions in the world. Clearly this man is an incredibly bright person. Let's add to that his dedication to community service.

Obama has done something special, but you are certainly welcome to ignore that and vote for someone more hollywood, like that actor on Law and Order, Fred Thompson. Or you can vote for the 911 president himself Rudy Guiliani who singlehandedly saved the towers from collapsing.

Obama is great at speeches; the folks in IL know that is ALL he is. As for Oprah, curious that she claimed she voted & gave $$ to other candidates before, but not endorsed one until a BLACK one (or more accurately: 1/2 black)!!Smells like racism to me. Geez, I am a woman & I am not voting for Hillary; the "packaging" should not be the determinant. And lately, anything Oprah has touched has turned to dog doo. Hate her show & always have....

Dear Charles, it seems you have willfully misconstrued Oprah's statement to suit the interpretation you want. However, those of us who know the source of the quote ("make the dream a reality") and are not given to bias or mischief, know she was not appealing to a vote for Obama based on the color of his skin but rather based on the content of his character (indeed irrespective of the color of his skin). That sir is the dream that she is asking to become a reality.

I have one thing to say to all the Obama haters. The only reason y'all have negative things to say about him is because he is important, special and keeps on rising in the polls, so he is giving u sleepless nights. You are still in denial. I know that Barack Obama is aware of the mess that this country is in, and he is aware that if not seriously helped this country will go down in a catastrophic turmoil.
