After Oprah Winfrey's weekend campaign tour for Barack Obama, actor Will Smith tells the New York Post's Page Six that he has contacted the Illinois senator to offer his services as a surrogate campaigner.

"Yeah. I opened it up to him. I just gave him a call and asked him to tell me wherever you think you need me. I think he's what the future of America is going to be. Barack represents what I feel is the future of the optimum survival of America," Smith told the Post.

An Obama campaign official confirmed that Smith has been "in touch" with the campaign but said there are no immediate plans to use Smith on the campaign trail. "Nothing concrete," said the Obama official.

The real burning issue is when will our worst Prez in history choose a sure loser candidate and hit the road on the tax payers and show his support?

It would be good for him to use him for a concert on Jan 2 in Iowa

Was that the most pathetic picture of Will Smith you could possibly shoot? Or was that what you were going for? Because that picture looks abominably stupid. But hey, maybe thats what you want to portray... Seriously though, I doubt Obama will use Will Smith much. He's popular, but his best chance of celebrity appeal is probably Oprah, face it or not.

Well, it's not a bad thing, so long as the Obama doesn't have him in Iowa singing "Parents Just Don't Understand". That might undermine Obama's efforts to counter Hillary's "experience" barrage.

I like that people like Lil jon and snoop dogg are not contacting obama--it's great-I'm white and a big fan of will smith and oprah..Go obama-I wish though that voters will look beyond skin color--look at it as a tan..lol

Will Smith would appeal to the younger voters of all ethnicities; however, younger voters are known to be delinquent when it comes to actually voting. Too many other distractions. Eighteen year olds can vote, but do they? A wasted amendment, #26.

Unfortunately, the country is still asking "Are we ready for a black president" or "Are we ready for a woman president" (which is hilarious considering much less "civilized" countries than ours are boasting about their female leaders)

With Obama, it will always be about his skin color. Truly unfortunate.

But you see,
Oprah is not the face of just Black Women, she represents women of all ages and colors, which is GREAT to have on your side.

Will smith on the other hand doesn't command as large of an audience (I see him appealing to a lot of 26+ White Males, which still is just barely in the average voting range)

He wouldn't be as strong of a presence as Oprah, and it will be hard to follow her crowd, but he is quite famous, and will surely help Obama get his face in the media (ie: this article).

I don't think anyone thinks that any individual will completley convince anyone. WIll Smith and Oprah are just citizens who support Obama and want to help in any way they can, not unlike myself.

I attended the Obama-Oprah event on Saturday in Des Moines and dragged two of my friends with me. It was a 90-mile trip home in freezing rain, following the sand truck home after dark feeling greatful that the IOWA DOT is not run by a BUSH crony. (Good job Brownie).

More than 18,000 attended the event, including Oprah fans, citizen activists, and voters sincerely hoping they are capable of making informed decisions at the Jan. 3 caucuses. Will Smith is an activist, so am I. I, like Obama, sense the "urgency of now" in US history and like Oprah, I believe that Obama "is the one" to address the issues facing us. Does it matter if Will only brings two more voters over to the Obama camp like I did?  No not really. What really matters is when ordinary people care enough to actively engage in the process, in order to get the best government that we possibly can before it is too late to save our own Democracy. Wake up!

If Oprah can help, if Will can help, if I can help, then we WILL. It is our right and duty as citizens. Why should these endorsements be so problematic to the media? Maybe they don't enjoy sharing their bully pulpit as the results go in a direction they neither predicted or support. Celebrities and citizens are effectively neutralizing media influences that would assure a Clinton outcome. We, the people, are making the news now and the media is not amused with the prospect of relinquishing that role so early in the election. The national press corp will soon have to accept that their blantant Clinton bias won't swing Iowa, and report the real news about Obama here. He has the most supporters, the best oraganization on the ground, the most appeal, the cleanest record, and is the country's best chance to shape our future for postive change.

I was in the Hillary camp until Barack came along. Thought my choices were limited to she and Joe.

I applauded Hillary and Bill on universal healthcare, but they couldn't pull it off.
Hillary has been very quiet about NAFTA (1,000,000 american jobs outsourced during on the Clinton watch??!!);$9 Billion of middle America's dollars last year alone to the OIL COMPANIES as they pay little to no taxes!! Nothing has trickled down to the average american except "waste"...She couldn't do anything about it while a senior member of congress; she voted for this war; she voted the politically correct line- at the expense of human lives; she had the same information as those who had the courage to stand up. Barack's career could have been squashed right then and there. He stood up to and stood on conscience & conviction. Seems to me we need that more than everthese days.

America wantss leadership that knows who they are accountable to; we the people, not the rich elite.

Most people I talk to want government for the people and by the people. They want something different- not business as usual. The political pundits of the past honestly believe that americans are stupid and that they can continue to pull the wool over our eyes. Not anymore. We have the internet where we can now seek out the truth.. because it is out there... a good example of that is the lie about Barack being Muslim.. you an go to the internet now and "google" the questions and find the truth!

Now is the time for all good men/women to come to the aid of our country.

Im so sorry for all the Obama supporters. I am a African American women and I can tell you right now, I have never been a Obama supporter. Its true, we all do need to look beyond color. We need to look at the candidates as someone that is going to get us out of this mess. I truely feel that Obama does not have the experience to do that. No candidate is going to 100% make anyone happy, but we have to agree that is should be someone who can give us a helping hand out of our MAJOR PROBLEM!! I personally have no ill will against anyone who supports anyone, but people PLEASE choose wisely. Every body that voted for our President now, felt in on way or another that he was qualified. I feel personally like Oprah herself can never relate to the people in America. Yes she has done some great things, but ask your self this??? What benefit is she getting from backing Obama? He will not take care of the average person. The rich will become richer and the poor will be lost!!

I don't think the only reason Oprah is supporting Obama is because she wants to see her paycheck increased. I think this is a woman who no longer cares about money in her life, but instead is focusing on what she can do with what popularity and prominence she's earned to better her society. This is the main reason I believe her show is such a massive success, because she's consistently bringing up issues that aren't necessarily comfortable to people so that we can have a better perspective on the world we live in.

I agree completely with Pat H. These celebrities and high-profile figures are not being selfishly introverted in their desire to support Obama. They simply believe that he is really IS "the one" to truly change America. He is the one that can, with support from all walks of life; rich and poor, black and white, red and blue, turn our country onto a brighter track and commit our government to becoming a helpful organization rather than one that is too consumed in its own bureaucracy to achieve progression.

I say this as I prepare myself to take a 6 hour flight to New Hampshire from Arizona to spend a week working for the Obama campaign during NH's primary. I chose to spend money on a ticket and to use my winter break time off from school (which is a VERY precious thing) to campaign for Obama, not because I'm trying to satisfy some self-serving obligation, but because I want to do WHATEVER I possibly can do as an ordinary college student to insure that our country picks the candidate I feel can best navigate our (very) misguided society.

To me the work, money, and time required for such a journey means little compared to the chance to better our country in a most serious way.

So I offer you to ask yourself this question instead: Why are all of these thousands and thousands of Americans taking time out of their normal lives and speaking on behave of Barack Obama, traveling the length of the country, donating out of their own pockets whatever they can afford, calling and emailing their friends and family and asking them to join a political campaign, doing whatever they possibly can for a politician running for an elected position?

The answer is because this is more than just a politician and a race. This is more than that soon-to-be vacant oval office. This is about America's future, your future, my future, the future of our children, of our grandchildren. It's about stopping the rhetoric and the complaints of government inactivity and mistrust and actually getting up and DOING something for our country.

The journey through the darkness and into light is one that cannot be predicted and calculated, it is a path that is not forseen and prepared for. But when we have hope that we can get to the other side, when we are finally able to rid our minds of the fear of darkness, the fear of failure, that is when we find the courage and determination needed to finish such a dark and frightening journey and find that light that we are all so desperately seeking for.

Please look into the candidacy of Barack Obama. Read his positions on vital issues and his concrete plans for when he gets elected. I think you'll find that this isn't politics as usual, but instead a movement unfamiliar to the political insiders.

Obama is the best ,the one America has been waiting for.
